A mini-tower UPS with line interactive topology, the CyberPower LX1500GU3 provides battery backup (using simulated sine wave output) and surge protection for desktop computers, workstations, networking equipment, smart home devices, and home entertainment systems. The LX1500GU3 uses Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) to correct minor power fluctuations without switching to battery power, which extends battery life. AVR is essential in areas where power fluctuations occur frequently. The LX1500GU3 features an advanced multifunction control panel with a color LCD to quickly confirm status and alerts at-a-glance. Two USB charge ports (one Type-A and one Type-C) power portable devices such as mobile phones and tablets, even during a utility power failure. The LX1500GU3 comes with a three-year warranty (including coverage of batteries) and a $500,000 Connected Equipment Guarantee.

Simple & Easy To Use
on August 18, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
The CyberPower LX1500GU3 is easy to use and ads a great piece of mind for the protection of your home electronics. Set up is very simple. Pretty much take it out of the box and plug it in. Plug your devices into it and you are up and running. You do need to let it charge for at least 8 hours to make sure the battery is at full capacity before you are getting full protection. I love the front color screen. Toggling between the different screens for different information is as simple as hitting the display button. Input volts, output information, battery status and percentage of load among other things are all there and easy to understand. Also, the same information (and even a bit more) is available with the "PowerPanel Personal" app that you can download. In order to use this, you will need to connect the UPS to your computer with the included cable. It is a very simple and easy to use app. Aside from the ten household inputs on the back, you also have a USB & USB-C output on the front. Very handy. Not to mention the standard connections on the back for coaxial cables & Ethernet to protect your data lines. Two days after I hooked this up, we had a brief power outage due to a thunderstorm. It didn't last long enough to see how long the battery would last, but it was enough to confirm the unit works as promised. As with any battery UPS, this is a heavy box. It feels well made. If I have a complaint (and this pretty much goes for all battery UPS units) it's that they just don't space the outlets far enough apart. If you use a power brick of some kind (or more importantly, several bricks) it is next to impossible to keep all the outlets available. And lets face it, many computers & printers use these. As it stands, I have everything plugged in that I want plugged in. But it's tight. But again, that is a common theme with all of these from any manufacturer so I wouldn't take that as a negative of this particular unit. Overall I am very pleased with the LX1500GU3 and for home use, I would think you would be happy with it as well.

The best computer I have owned!
on August 5, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
The title kind of gets to the point of how I feel about the Alienware X14 R1. I'm not saying it's the best computer out there, but for me this is the perfect storm as far as a small & light gaming laptop goes.
The build quality is typical Alienware. Solid, lightweight (for what it is) and gives a feeling of confidence. It looks like an Alienware but at the same time doesn't give that "over the top" gamer look. The keypad has a beautiful soft-touch feel with keystrokes that feel great with just enough travel. The touch pad feels & works great although it is a bit small (kind of a necessity with the small design of the machine). The backlit keys are of course customizable although I do wish the brightness went a bit higher. The somewhat larger rear section that protrudes behind the screen might not be to everyone's liking (myself I love it), but it is the way it is to aide in cooling so to me it's a welcome design.
All of the ports are located on the back. You will either love or hate this design. For me it's not an issue although I do think the headphone jack should be on the side. As for ports, you are pretty well covered. Traditional USB, USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 that can work as Display Port outs, an HDMI 2.1 port and a Micro SD slot. I would have liked the Micro SD slot be a full sized SD slot but that's a minor issue. Having both HDMI 2.1 and Display Port is a great option. I've tried using both with my external monitor and they work great. With the advantages that HDMI 2.1 has to offer it's nice to be future proofed.
The screen was kind of my one area of concern before getting this laptop but it has proven not to be an issue. 1920x1080 I thought would be a bit on the low end. But, with it being a 14 inch display it's not an issue at all. Everything is clean, clear & crisp with the 144Hz display. The colors are vibrant and accurate. And thanks to the 400 nits it is plenty bright. Getting back to the resolution for a second, there is a solid reason for the 1920x1080 resolution. The Nvidia 3060 is an excellent video card. But it helps the performance and battery life by not having to try and push a built in 4K screen along. And besides, with a 14 inch display does anyone really need more than 1920x1080?
I mentioned the graphics. That is obviously one of the most important components with any gaming machine. I honestly feel that Alienware has struck a great balancing act here. There are slightly higher end graphics cards out there. But, keeping it to the 3060 helps with keeping the laptop small. And besides, with a gaming laptop I don't think the higher end 3070 or 3080 would really ad much. At least not without destroying the battery life. So far I haven't run into any issues with the 3060. In fact, everything I've thrown at it has run very smooth. Now your millage may very depending on what you play and "HOW" you play. But keeping in mind what they are trying to achieve here with such a thin and portable laptop I don't think you will have any real issues. Not everything is going to be playable at the top settings. But I also don't think most people looking at this laptop are going to be shocked by this. Besides, you may not be at the top settings but you won't be far from it with most games. And as for heat, I have been impressed. It gets warm but not nearly as bad as gaming laptops I've previously had. I've been impressed with the fan noise as well. Obviously any gaming laptop is never going to be whisper quiet. But I haven't found the fan noise to be nearly as bad as I would have expected or have heard in other high end machines.
I think a big part of the great balancing act that Alienware has accomplished here can be found in the rest of the specs. The 512gb SSD is very fast! All of my benchmark tests have come in with read speeds just under 7,000 and my write speeds have been over 5,000. Couldn't ask for more. The biggest thing that I think gives the X14 such great performance is the 12th Generation i7 chip. Often when a new chip set comes out the performance gains are really small. Not this time. This chips performance is stunning. When you combine the speed of the i7 chip with such fast SSD speeds & the 3060 graphics card, well, then you can understand why I call this laptop the perfect storm. Alienware really hit the sweet spot.
Power. The fact that it uses a USB-C connection for power is awesome. I really hope this is the future for all laptops. Also, the included power supply is small enough to toss in your laptop bag without issue. As for the battery life it is what it is. With everyday web browsing and such you could easily get 6 maybe even 8 hours out of it. But those numbers don't apply to gaming. Honestly, if you game on a full battery I'd say anywhere from 1 to 3 hours will be your limit depending on what you are playing. That's just a reality of such a small & thin laptop. I don't care what any manufacture claims for battery life numbers, when it comes to gaming laptops the numbers will always be lower. At least while gaming. With that said, I don't find the battery life with the X14 to be any worse than other gaming laptops I've had. In fact the life is probably better than most. But still not great. On the plus side just remember the power supply is easy to carry along :-)
Something to keep in mind is to know what you are getting in advance because you really can't customize it later. You can change out the SSD for a larger one easily enough. But that's it. The RAM is built in and not something you can upgrade later. I haven't found the 16gb of RAM to be an issue at all. But if you fear it could be for you, then think about the 32gb version before you buy.
With all that having been said, I can honestly say I absolutely love the Alienware X14 R1! I fully expect this will serve me well for years to come. It really is the best laptop I've ever had :-)

Great fit & sound
on June 28, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
There is no shortage of wireless earbuds on the market coming in many prices. These JVC buds are a great mix of sound, fit and quality. First and foremost for me is fit. I don't know if it's just my ears, but I tend to have issues with how earbuds fit. These are lightweight and very comfortable. I don't get the dreaded tired ears from these. Build quality feels good. Battery life is great. As for the waterproofness of them I think they will be fine, but I haven't really had them out in the rain yet. Controls are easy to understand with good sensitivity (that's something I've had issues with on other buds). So, how do they sound? Awesome! A lot of earbuds look alike, but sound quality is what sets them apart. These hit above the price point. Bass is very good. That often isn't the case with earbuds. nature of the small design I guess. But these have much better bass than I would expect. Higher frequencies are handled well. In other words, it's not a case of you get a lot of bass or just a high tinny sound. It's a nice balance. Noise cancellation is as good as I think it can be with earbuds. Hard to make something so small to do a good job with this, but these do pretty good. These may not be the top of the line, but they are good enough to make you wonder why you would need anything more.

Reliable protection
on June 27, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
So far I’m loving this BodyGuardz case for my IPhone 13 Pro Max. I like the somewhat clear design. The fit is perfect. I have both a screen and a camera protector (both sold separately) on my phone. Sometimes these things can interfere with the fit of a case. Not an issue here. The screen protector fits with just enough room for the case without the two touching. The camera protector has been an issue for me with other cases. Often the protector is to big for the opening in the case. Not a problem here. Perfect fit. The side buttons work perfectly as well. None of that needing to push really hard or misalignment with the buttons that some cases have. I do wish there was a fold out piece to protect the lightning port, but that’s a minor complaint. The cutout for the ringer/silence slider is just right. As for protection, I think this will work great. I haven’t dropped it (yet) and I’m not going to drop it on purpose just to test it :-) But the case is made of a soft rubber that feels like it will protect well and cushion the blow. All in all a great case.

Sleek & Quiet!
on June 20, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
The Shark Air Purifier MAX is the perfect purifier for most homes. It cleans up to 1200 square feet, looks great and is super quiet. So quiet you’ll forget it’s there. Set up is a breeze. Take the included filter out of its plastic shipping wrap, put it back it and turn it on. That’s it. Although there are a number of manual settings, letting it do its thing by leaving it on auto works great. The smart IQ senses the air quality giving you a percentage of clean air on the easy to read screen. It will also let you know how long until the air is clean. When I first plugged it in it read 96% clean air. Didn’t take long at all to reach 100%. Around the digital screen is a round light that changes colors to give to an easy to see guide to your air quality. Just remember blue is good, red is bad :-) Giving you HEPA & microban protection is a must these days. Needless to say that anything that can help keep your homes air quality healthy is a good thing. We have a dog and two cats so needless to say our air can use a little help. Already I’m noticing less “pet” smells and dust. If you find you need to kick things into high gear by setting the unit manually you have that ability. But honestly, I can’t imagine needing to do so when it works incredibly quiet & well in auto. Highly recommend!

Excellent Upgrade!
on June 20, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
This TomTom is replacing my old GPS that is at least ten years old. Times have certainly changed! The build quality is great & the window suction cup is the best I've seen on any device. Accuracy is spot on once it locks in on the satellites (takes a few seconds to do so after turning it on). The 7" screen is a thing of beauty. Very easy to see in any light. 7" is about as large as you would want to go I think. I have a Chevrolet Sonic and it didn't feel like it was taking up too much space. The touch screen works great (not something I can say for my old GPS). I got this just in time to use on a nearly 1,000 mile round trip thru Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and a small bit of Canada. It never hesitated, locked up or lost its connection. The battery seems to hold its charge well but of course there is the car charger included. Being able to connect to your phone with Bluetooth makes a big difference. Opens up new ways to interface with the GPS. I found the accuracy of speed notifications, nearby restaurants and gas stations spot on. Estimated times worked well and the voice prompts were far enough in advance as to not miss my turns :-) I know that many new cars have GPS built in. But from what I have seen they never work as well as these stand-alone units. I think this is an outstanding GPS that will work for many years to come. I honestly don't know what more anyone could want from a GPS and I highly recommend the TomTom Go Discover.

Really loving this!
on May 28, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
This is a product that might not be on a lot of peoples minds. But once you use it, you will love it. The possibilities are endless for this light strip. To begin, here is what you are getting: A 25 foot RGB LED strip that can really be placed anywhere as long as you have a power source. It can be twisted around just about any way you can think of. It can be controlled by the attached controller or by an app. It can react to music and it is even works with Google & Alexa! Now I must admit, I wasn't sure just how bright the lights would be. But wow! These LED's are bright! As I said before, you can use this for many applications. For me, I'm using it for photography. I do a lot of creative photography work particularly at night. The ability to discretely (or not so discretely) place these lights for photo effects is amazing. With the various colors & either still or flashing effects, the creative ideas are endless. You might be wondering how I can use this on location without an outlet? Simple, I just use my 240 watt portable battery pack that has a built in household outlet. The power draw is very light so this can power it for a very long time. I really can't praise this LED strip enough. Great build, very bright and incredibly versatile.

Excellent budget gaming monitor
on May 28, 2022
Posted by: Duluthian
The ASUS TUF 23.8" is a great budget gaming monitor. Simple to hook up and good (mostly) build quality. I say mostly because overall it seems well built, but I'm not so sure about the buttons & joystick controller. They feel a bit flimsy. However, I don't think most people will be using these all that much. I suspect most will rarely touch these controls again once they have it set how they like it. The stand is nice and I love the ability to tilt. Not all less expensive monitors have that. Performance wise, it's excellent. The IPS LED FreeSync panel gives bright, accurate colors that are vibrant and sharp. The 1920x1080 resolution is not a problem considering the roughly 24" size. You really don't need more than that for a small gaming monitor. But the star of the show is the 165Hz refresh rate. That combined with the screen size gives you an amazing gaming experience. No ghosting or blurring of any kind. And lets face it, that's what a gaming monitor is all about. Two HDMI and a single DisplayPort should be fine for most. Although a USB-C would have been nice seeing as it is the future, but we need to remember the price point. Overall this is an outstanding bargain for a brand name gaming monitor that can handle whatever you toss at it.

Simply the best!

This is without question the best smartwatch I have ever owned. And I have to say, I've had plenty :-) I've owned everything from basic fitness trackers to high-end do it all watches. This being a hybrid, really strikes the perfect balance. First, it is incredibly well made. This is built to last a long time and has excellent water resistance. It not only comes with the metal band, but also a simple rubber style band if that is more to your liking. I was really impressed with the included tools for changing out the watch bands. Very nice touch! As for functions, it has everything you would expect. Notifications (text, social media, health, email, ect..) and no shortage of health tracking options. The ECG is very handy. BPM and oxygen saturation levels work very well. Of course you have fitness tracking as well including what seems to be to be a very accurate step counter. I'm also impressed with the sleep tracking. But above all else, there are two main things that put this watch above all the rest: battery life & the phone app. Battery life is the best I have ever seen. Eight days after fully charging it, I am still at 56%. That is insane! Never have I had a watch that could go more than two days on a full charge. A large part of this amazing battery life is due tot he hybrid form factor. As for the app, it is probably the easiest to understand and work with that I have ever used. Don't underestimate this. If the app isn't any good, you are not likely to get the most out of your smartwatch. I should also mention the great connectivity. Every other smartwatch I have used will disconnect from the phone from time to time. Usually it would be a case of the watch not re-connecting after being away from the phone. I can honestly say this hasn't happened even one time with the Withings Scanwatch Horizon. Not to mention it works perfectly with everything I want to receive notifications from. There are a ton of smartwatches on the market, but I can't imagine any that are better.

Not bad at all

How Often Used:1-2 times a week
The Dime 2 earbuds are overall pretty good. Particularly considering the low price point. They feel well made. The charging case is very nice with the ability to hold two extra full charges. For me, how they fit in my ears is the biggest thing. If they are uncomfortable I’m just not going to end up using them. Not an issue with the Dime 2. They fit very comfortably and I’m not getting any ear fatigue. Sound quality is overall good. Remember, these are not top of the line expensive earbuds. But I think for the price they sound great. Although I do feel the volume could go a bit higher. I have several pairs of much more expensive earbuds. I like the Dime 2 earbuds for those times I don’t want to risk losing the expensive ones. Battery life is rated at 3.5 hours and that seems about right. More than enough for most usage situations for me. Remember, the case can hold a couple of extra charges. So far I’ve only used the Tile location function for testing purposes. I hope to never really need it. But so far it seems to work fine. Definitely a handy feature to have. Don’t really think you will go wrong with these buds!

Simple & Powerful!
By Duluthian from Duluth, MN
I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of the claims made in regards to the Linksys Velop Wi-Fi system. Lets face it, we have all heard the claims of more powerful Wi-Fi regarding the latest and greatest routers before, right? Well let me tell you that this time around it is no joke! Not only is this system amazingly simple to hook up, but it works as advertised!
To begin, the three tower kit is elegantly packaged it a very nice box. Aside from the three devices you won't find much else in the box but that is kind of the point of this system. Simplicity. You get the towers (smaller than I expected them to be), one Ethernet cord and three power units. As for instructions, there are very few and that is just fine. You get a simple guide telling you to download the Linksys App from there website, Google Play Store or iTunes. Trust me, that's all you need.
Set up once you have the app downloaded couldn't be more simple. Easy to understand instructions will guide you thru setting up the main unit (any one of the three will work. They are all identical). It only takes a few minutes but that may take a bit longer depending on your internet connection. As soon as you have the first unit set up it will then ask you if you want to hook up another unit and so on and so on until you are done. If you need more than the initial three, individual units or a two pack can be purchased and added to the system. It really is the easiest router system I have ever set up.
As for the app, it allows for a good amount of control over the Velop. Tech junkies who demand only the greatest of control over their internet settings might find it a bit too simple for them. However, for the vast majority of users you will find all the control you need. Parental settings, guest network settings and so on are all here. And with the app on your phone or tablet, you can control the system even when you are away.
Each unit has two Ethernet ports. The main unit will need one of them to connect to your internet modem. After that, they are all free to be used as you like (if you choose to be wired up at all). I have the main unit right by my Mac Mini so I have that hard wired in. Everything else in the house (a couple of laptops & tablets, phones and a couple of Echo Dots) are all using the Wi-Fi.
Ok, so how well does it work? Simply put, very very well. I had a very good router set up before this (also a Linksys). The big downfall to most routers is that even if it is very powerful you tend to lose some speed with distance. Power with most routers will give you distance but not always speed. Having run a series of speed tests, I am getting every ounce of internet speed that I am paying for in every corner of the house with the Velop. Literally, no drop off in speed even from the most distant of the three towers and that one is two floors down! Before, I had full speeds in the room with the router and although I had full house coverage, the speeds were down to less than half on the extreme fringes of the range. Now you can always hook up range extenders with most routers but that only extends your range, not your speed. With the way the Velop system works not only does it increase your reach, it maintains your speeds as well. Please don't confuse this with it making your Wi-Fi faster. No router can make the speeds coming into your home faster than what you are paying for. But this system keeps the Wi-Fi speeds consistent all thru the home and that is a major advantage over a traditional router with range extenders. Ever tried watching a tv show or movie on your tablet only to walk into another room and suddenly start having buffering issues because the speeds don't hold up? Well the Velop system goes a long ways towards fixing that. The Velop is really in my eyes the perfect router system. It gives you what most of us have been chasing after in a router for a long time. Consistent speed and signal strength. If you were to buy a good traditional router and several range extenders for your home it would cost around the same as the Velop. But the Velop works far better and is insanely easy to set up. It really is the perfect Wi-Fi system!

Still loving the Velop system after a couple of weeks of use. Solid performance. I did run into one issue that really isn't the Velop's problem but felt it might be helpful to share.
I use a Wemo switch to control a table lamp by way of the Echo Dot ( "Alexa, lights on/off"). It worked great before I hooked up the Velop but it took me some time to figure out why it wouldn't work with the Velop. The Wemo requires a 2.4ghz channel. The Velop uses 2.4ghz and 5ghz but they are not controllable. Therefore, the Wemo would not recognize the Velop's signal. My work around was actually simple and gave me a use for my old router. I simple plugged the old router into one of the Velop's ethernet ports and had the old router send out the dedicated 2.4ghz channel. Now I simple have the Wemo & Echo Dot hooked to that signal. Works like a charm. I would imaging this could be an issue for any other (mostly older) devices that only work on the 2.4ghz channel as well.
As I said before, this really isn't an issue of the Velop. It is really more an issue of the Wemo not being up to date with the current 5ghz channel. However, it is still something to keep in mind.
