I’m really impressed with this! I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but being someone who deals with heat related issues I figured it was worth a try. Glad I did. It is made very well. Controls are easy to use and easy to understand. The 6000mAh battery lasts a long time. Easily through a long walk or run on full blast. The smart app is nice but by no means necessary. I was a bit concerned about if it would be big enough (I have a large head :-) ) but it fits great. It pretty much forms to your neck but it doesn’t get tight feeling. It would be easy to think you need to run it full blast all the time but that isn’t so. Once you cool down I’ve found it’s best to turn it down a little bit for the best comfort. It does make some noise but it’s not bad. If you are just sitting at home with it on you will notice the sound, but out and about you will forget all about it. What I’ve found is it kind of sends a chill down your spine and that in turn helps you feel cooler. You need to be realistic with it. It’s not going to make you feel like you’re sitting in the freezer at a grocery store :-) But it will help greatly with keeping you comfortable.

This Philips Sonicare 9300 DiamondClean Smart is really pretty amazing. Easy to use with a helpful app that you will find you need more than you realize. It is build well and balances nicely in your hand. The various brush heads cover all your needs and are easy to swap out. And I might ad easy to find replacements for. I really like the charging base. Makes it easy to keep it charged. Being able to place the brush right in the included glass and just let it do its thing without needing to fumble with an actual plug is great. The power is of course adjustable. The top power level is incredibly powerful. Almost too much so. I mentioned the app before. Now you might think you don’t need an app to help you brush. But to get the best use out of the 9300 the app is important. It will communicate with the brush and give you details on how to best use each brush head. It will even give you slight movement in the brush handle when it’s time to move to the next section. Pretty ingenious if you ask me. Overall this is not just an electric toothbrush, it’s really an overall health care system for your teeth.

I am replacing an original version Ring with this new Ring Battery Doorbell Pro. The original still works and will be relocated, but this new version is a big upgrade. On the outside, they really don't look much different. I guess that's a good thing seeing as the original looked fine. However this new version is lighter weight. Set up is very easy. Download the Ring app and scan the barcode under the removable silver battery cover. The app will walk you thru the set up and do any needed software updates. Getting it connected will take you less time than mounting it to the wall. Connection with our wi-fi has been solid. The most notable upgrade is the video quality and the sensitivity to motion. The motion sensing is much more accurate. The video quality is great with 1536p HD. The color night vision is nice as well. There is no shortage of ringtones to choose from. There are a ton of options within the app to configure your notifications just the way you want. It can be set as simple as just a doorbell, or an all around motion sensing security system that can notify you all the time. So far battery life has been great but in time I will use the hard wire option for power. Being in Minnesota the cold tends to keep outdoor battery devices from lasting very long. No matter if you are upgrading from a previous version like I am, or a first time Ring user, I can highly recommend the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro.

Best Keyboard I've Used

The new Corsair K65 PLUS has very quickly become my favorite keyboard. For me anyways, it's as close to perfection as I think a keyboard can get. The design is well thought out and the size is just right. A smaller keyboard like this might not be for everyone. But for me I like that it works great for everything while not taking up a ton of space. The build is first class. This really feels solid without being to heavy. The ability to use it corded or cordless (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) is great. The MLX Red key strokes are (again, for me anyways) just right. The perfect amount of travel with a nice feel and not overly clicky. The backlight can be controlled with the Corsair iCUE app and is easy to customize. The multi function dial works great as well. With it being a small keyboard, there are a good number of keys that have a secondary function that other keyboards don't have. But none of it is hard to figure out or get used to. Some gamers might not like the small size. But like anything, that's a personal choice. For me, the balance between gaming keyboard and work keyboard is absolutely perfect and I couldn't be happier. In fact, I really don't see myself using any of my other keyboards again!

I use many, many hard drives of various styles. As a photographer, digital photos (particularly RAW files) eat up space fast. Every thing gets triple backed up externally. However, I still need a lot of space on my desktop PC for current files. I have multiple drives onboard. I was in need of a new drive that would be fast and have at least 1TB. This SanDisk Extreme M.2 1TB fit the bill perfectly. Most of my drives are SanDisk and for good reason. They just work without fuss. Never had one fail. And I love the M.2 format for there small size and ease of use. Speed is important when working with large files and this drive delivers. There are faster drives out there, but they cost a lot more. And when you reach a certain speed, anything more becomes overkill as your PC will most likely create a bottleneck that the M.2 won't be able to overcome. The speeds with this SanDisk hit the sweat spot. This is so fast you would never notice if a faster drive were any faster. Read speeds of 5100+ and write speeds of 4800+ are crazy fast! So if you need a new drive for your operating system or one for more storage and you are comparing all the options, I can honestly say you won't go wrong with this drive.

Nice attention to detail

So far I’m really enjoying the hai Smart 1.8. Compared with so many other shower heads on the market, the build quality and attention to detail is exceptional. Fit & finish is beautiful. I love the slider for adjusting the water stream. Much nicer than the rotating head design most others use. And the hose is plenty long enough and flexible, even though I can’t really explain how it’s made. The hose is a kind of shining material that flexes great but just not like a typical hose. Trust me, it’s all good. Water pressure has been great. We don’t have the best pressure in the house but this head has worked better than previous heads we’ve tried. So, as a shower head it’s awesome. Now the “digital” aspects of it. The Bluetooth connection to an app on your phone can provide an alert when the water reaches a certain temperature. I’m sure that there are people who can benefit from this such as those who have any kind of sensitivity to temperature or those with poor water temperatures that need to let the shower run a bit before it gets warm enough. Also, you can track water usage. This could be very handy for example in a house with teenagers who like to spend all day in the shower :-) The app connects very well when in range of the shower. And I think it’s brilliant how the power to the shower head is provided by a small turbine built in to the head. No battery or electrical connection is needed. Not everyone will find a need for the digital aspects of this head, but the information it can provide is interesting. But even just as a shower head without the digital connection, it’s one of the best I’ve used and very well made.

The TP-Link Deco BE16000 is a very impressive WiFi mesh system. It is a beautifully designed system with each unit looking right at home wherever you place it. Setup is as simple as it gets. Compared to previous routers I’ve used, I had this up and running within minutes. The app is incredibly easy to use. The ability to run wired devices off of each unit is nice. I’ve had other mesh systems where you could only do that with the main unit. Each of the three devices is considerably larger than the other systems I’ve used. However, the range with the Deco is considerably better and you have a lot more technology built in so I don’t really feel the size is an issue. Regardless of what you are using ( WiFi 7 or something lower) the range is exceptional and the signal strength is incredibly solid. Now at the time I’m writing this, the number of WiFi 7 compatible devices on the market can probably be counted on your fingers. But, don’t let that stop you from considering the Deco BE160000. There may not be much for WiFi 7 devices now, but with the speed technology changes there will most likely be many devices in short time. You are not likely to upgrade your home WiFi very often so you might as well be future proof. Also, you don’t need to be using WiFi 7 to benefit. The exceptional range & signal works with all previous WiFi versions. I can highly recommend the TP-Link Deco BE16000.

I’ve had many computer speakers over the years and these are easily towards the top of my list. Excellent balance of clear highs and just enough bass. The cylinder style shape helps to give that thump. I’m not a fan of speakers with a separate subwoofer that sits on the floor and just gets in the way so these are just right. Setup is simple with a power cord, cord to connect the two speakers and a USB connection to the computer. This is the first set of speakers I’ve had that connect with USB instead of an audio connection. No issues with this design. The speakers are bigger than I expected. Looking at the photos online they don’t look nearly as large as they really are. It’s not a problem and I don’t expect it will be an issue for most, but something to be aware of. Controls are as simple as it gets with a power button and volume buttons. My only complaint is the fact that the speakers are not adjustable. The speaker and stand are a single unit and can’t be adjusted. So far it hasn’t been a problem as I have them set on the sides of my monitor and the angle of the speakers seems fine. For gaming, I think these offer great sound that will allow you to hear every detail in a game. For music & media they are equally as capable. However, even though they sound great for all uses, if you are only going to use them for music I would look at other options that are more tailored to that use.

The Withings ScanWatch 2 is really the perfect balance between a traditional watch and a modern health tracking watch. This is not my first Withings and I can honestly say they just keep making refinements and making watches even better. Many people might not care for wearing a modern computer looking watch. The blend of traditional style and modern function is very well done. Anyone looking at this would think it is a beautifully made traditional watch. The smart watch functions are all here but essentially hidden until you need them. The small screen for the smart functions is easily hidden yet easy to navigate with the crown. When activated, the smart functions are monochrome, not a bunch of bright flashy lights that draw attention. This design most likely has a lot to do with the incredible battery life. Haven’t had it a month yet, but I suspect the estimated 30 day battery life will be pretty close. I particularly like the raise to wake function that brings up the smart screen as you raise the watch to your face. I’ve found it to work much better than previous watches I’ve had with this function. Now a smart watch is only as good as it’s functions. And everything here works exceptionally well. I’ve found everything from the ECG, sleep tracker, breathes and Sp02 to work accurately. The inclusion of the ECG is a big plus for me. If I had one nit-picking issue with this a watch it is that I wish the smart screen were just a bit bigger so as to be able to read it easier. But again, that’s nit-picking. If you are looking for a smart watch but don’t want to look like your wearing something form a James Bond movie, the Withings ScanWatch 2 is an excellent option.

Best dash cam I have used

I've had several dash cams over the years. Most were good, but all left something to be desired. Enter the Nextbase iQ 4K. This is really a step forward in dash cams. The device is very well made and doesn't feel like a cheap plastic toy like all the others I have had. Set up is very easy with the app guiding the way. In terms of what you need to do, it is really just a matter of mounting it and running the cable to your OBD II port. Everything else is done on your phone. The forward facing 4K camera gives a very clear image that even looks good at night (an area most dash cams struggle with). The cab camera, although a lower resolution, also gives an excellent image. An optional rear window camera is available, but I don't have one yet. A note regarding running the power. The optimal way to connect the camera is with the OBD II port. However, a very well thought out optional fuse box connection is also provided. In my case, I purchased an OBD II splitter so I can keep an open port for use with a code reader and it works perfectly. The app is where everything comes together. There are two subscription plans depending on the features you require. I personally think you get a lot for your money with these subscriptions. Real time alerts if something happens while you are away from your car, ability to communicate (and watch) what is going on if you let someone else is using the car, automatic 911 service and even the ability to activate a witness mode in the event of such things as a road rage episode (you can have it send the recording to a contact of your choosing). And it can do so much more. Keep in mind that you can use this unit without a subscription, but it is very limited as most of the features require the 4G signal that the subscription plan provides. So really, it is much more than a dash cam. It's more like an automated camera/security/safety system. I have no complaints whatsoever with the Nextbase iQ 4K and really think it is something everyone should have.

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of the claims made in regards to the Linksys Velop Wi-Fi system. Lets face it, we have all heard the claims of more powerful Wi-Fi regarding the latest and greatest routers before, right? Well let me tell you that this time around it is no joke! Not only is this system amazingly simple to hook up, but it works as advertised!
To begin, the three tower kit is elegantly packaged it a very nice box. Aside from the three devices you won't find much else in the box but that is kind of the point of this system. Simplicity. You get the towers (smaller than I expected them to be), one Ethernet cord and three power units. As for instructions, there are very few and that is just fine. You get a simple guide telling you to download the Linksys App from there website, Google Play Store or iTunes. Trust me, that's all you need.
Set up once you have the app downloaded couldn't be more simple. Easy to understand instructions will guide you thru setting up the main unit (any one of the three will work. They are all identical). It only takes a few minutes but that may take a bit longer depending on your internet connection. As soon as you have the first unit set up it will then ask you if you want to hook up another unit and so on and so on until you are done. If you need more than the initial three, individual units or a two pack can be purchased and added to the system. It really is the easiest router system I have ever set up.
As for the app, it allows for a good amount of control over the Velop. Tech junkies who demand only the greatest of control over their internet settings might find it a bit too simple for them. However, for the vast majority of users you will find all the control you need. Parental settings, guest network settings and so on are all here. And with the app on your phone or tablet, you can control the system even when you are away.
Each unit has two Ethernet ports. The main unit will need one of them to connect to your internet modem. After that, they are all free to be used as you like (if you choose to be wired up at all). I have the main unit right by my Mac Mini so I have that hard wired in. Everything else in the house (a couple of laptops & tablets, phones and a couple of Echo Dots) are all using the Wi-Fi.
Ok, so how well does it work? Simply put, very very well. I had a very good router set up before this (also a Linksys). The big downfall to most routers is that even if it is very powerful you tend to lose some speed with distance. Power with most routers will give you distance but not always speed. Having run a series of speed tests, I am getting every ounce of internet speed that I am paying for in every corner of the house with the Velop. Literally, no drop off in speed even from the most distant of the three towers and that one is two floors down! Before, I had full speeds in the room with the router and although I had full house coverage, the speeds were down to less than half on the extreme fringes of the range. Now you can always hook up range extenders with most routers but that only extends your range, not your speed. With the way the Velop system works not only does it increase your reach, it maintains your speeds as well. Please don't confuse this with it making your Wi-Fi faster. No router can make the speeds coming into your home faster than what you are paying for. But this system keeps the Wi-Fi speeds consistent all thru the home and that is a major advantage over a traditional router with range extenders. Ever tried watching a tv show or movie on your tablet only to walk into another room and suddenly start having buffering issues because the speeds don't hold up? Well the Velop system goes a long ways towards fixing that. The Velop is really in my eyes the perfect router system. It gives you what most of us have been chasing after in a router for a long time. Consistent speed and signal strength. If you were to buy a good traditional router and several range extenders for your home it would cost around the same as the Velop. But the Velop works far better and is insanely easy to set up. It really is the perfect Wi-Fi system!

Still loving the Velop system after a couple of weeks of use. Solid performance. I did run into one issue that really isn't the Velop's problem but felt it might be helpful to share.
I use a Wemo switch to control a table lamp by way of the Echo Dot ( "Alexa, lights on/off"). It worked great before I hooked up the Velop but it took me some time to figure out why it wouldn't work with the Velop. The Wemo requires a 2.4ghz channel. The Velop uses 2.4ghz and 5ghz but they are not controllable. Therefore, the Wemo would not recognize the Velop's signal. My work around was actually simple and gave me a use for my old router. I simple plugged the old router into one of the Velop's ethernet ports and had the old router send out the dedicated 2.4ghz channel. Now I simple have the Wemo & Echo Dot hooked to that signal. Works like a charm. I would imaging this could be an issue for any other (mostly older) devices that only work on the 2.4ghz channel as well.
As I said before, this really isn't an issue of the Velop. It is really more an issue of the Wemo not being up to date with the current 5ghz channel. However, it is still something to keep in mind.
