I loved this movie because showed all the pressure that most high school football stars goes through to win for a small that wants to be recognized.

For Next Friday, New Line has once again done a great job on a DVD. The transfer, framed at the theatrical ratio of 1.85: 1 (anamorphic), is superb. Colors are sharp and constant and there are no defects. The soundtrack, which includes a lot of hip-hop and rap tunes, is good but not outstanding, lacking any real range. The surrounds in the Dolby Digital 5.1 track are rarely used, but that is far from a surprise. Everything seems centered up front, with clear dialogue and sound that is distortion-free. The DVD for the original Friday was a bit disappointing in the way of supplemental material, but this disc more than makes up for it. There are numerous highlights to this disc, starting with an audio commentary track. Though they seem to be recorded separately, director Steve Carr and Ice Cube talk about everything from making a sequel to where they each began. It also might be the first hip-hop commentary, as it has numerous moments of reverb and vocal styling done after the fact. It's a bit unusual and takes a little time to get used to, but is interesting nevertheless. Next is a rather lengthy featurette with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film that includes numerous interviews with the cast and crew. A real plus is an audition tape for Mike Epps. While the video and audio quality are awful, it's interesting to see Epps, a stand-up comic without film experience, interact with Cube. An interesting idea that has been used on other discs -- watching the film with a small box showing the storyboards -- is taken to the extreme here as it can be done for the entire film. In addition there are bloopers and an alternate ending, some strange painting of the Cucamonga locations, music videos from Ice Cube ("You Can't Do It" featuring Mack 10 and Ms. Toi) and Lil Zane ("Money Stretch"). There are also trailers for this film, including the G-rated version and the R-rated version, plus trailers for Friday, The Players Club, and Dangerous Ground. Finally, there are some DVD-ROM features, including access to the screenplay. This is another excellent disc in the Platinum Series from New Line.

Smoking on around friday

You would think that after Chris Tucker decided that he was too big for the Friday Series that it wouldn't be any good, but low and behold Ice Cube found another comedian to take over...Mike Epps. Not as good as the first but still a funny movie. With Pinky and Uncle Elroy, this series isn't going up in smoke
What's great about it: Pinky and Uncle Elroy
What's not so great: Smokey's in rehab

The 13th Warrior, a rousing adventure tale that uses the "stranger in a strange land" theme by placing a Moor courtesan amongst a pack of Viking raiders in the European Dark Ages, looks and sounds great on DVD, with a widescreen presentation and 5.1 Surround Sound that replicates the big-screen experience. It is disappointing, however, that the DVD contains few extras, just the standard trailer and language subtitles. An epic like this begs for some deleted scenes and production notes, while a commentary by director John McTiernan on a reportedly rocky production that took years to finish would have been a welcome addition. A sleeper, The 13th Warrior provides lots of swashbuckling adventure that is scarce in today's action genre.

The 2002 comedy Friday After Next comes to DVD from New Line Home Entertainment with both widescreen anamorphic and standard full-screen transfers. The English soundtrack is offered in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and DTS Stereo. Closed captions are accessible. As one of New Line's "Infinifilm" discs, this DVD offers plenty of interactive means to access the vast amount of special features. "All Access Pass" contains a trivia track and two commentary tracks. One track features director Marcus Raboy, producer Matt Alvarez, and writer/star Ice Cube. The other track contains commentary from cast members Katt Williams, Terry Crews, Anna Maria Horsford, and K.D. Aubert. "Beyond the Movie" contains four featurettes: "Microphone Fiend," "On a Good Day," "Ghetto Fabulous," and "Pork Report." Other special features include production design documentaries, DVD-ROM content, deleted scenes, extended ending, outtakes, a music video, and multiple trailers. This disc has gone above and beyond what anyone might have expected for a DVD release of Friday After Next.

You would think with Deebo out of the picture, Craig and Day-Day would have a great Christmas, but no here's Damion. Funnier than Next Friday, with new characters Money Mike, Mo Lee, and Skinny Santa were great additions to the an already funny cast.
What's great about it: Can you hear my now
What's not so great: No Deebo

Spike Lee's epic biopic of Malcolm X gets a superb two-disc special edition release from Warner Bros. that offers a handful of appealing extras. A full-length commentary featuring Lee, cinematographer Ernest Dickerson, editor Barry Alexander Brown, and costume designer Ruth Carter (who earned an Oscar nomination for her work in the film) touches upon seemingly every conceivable aspect of the film's somewhat troubled production. Especially entertaining are Lee's stories about fighting with the bond company once they had taken control of the filming. There are a handful of deleted scenes introduced by the director. A second disc offers a 1972 documentary about Malcolm X that offers a healthy amount of footage of the man. This film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary, and it offers the viewer the chance to appreciate how Denzel Washington fully captured the man in his performance. The transfer is presented in a widescreen image that preserves the original aspect ratio. Lee's film offers an English soundtrack mixed in Dolby Digital 5.1, and a French soundtrack recorded in Dolby Surround Stereo. The documentary's soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. This disc offers a first-rate presentation of what is arguably Spike Lee's best film.

One of the greatest movies portayals of any actor on living or dead person. Denzel did the best work that you can ask for and with Spike at the head of the helm, you can only ask that public respect the outcome....which is greatness

John Singleton's hard-hitting drama about one young man coming to terms with adulthood in South Central L.A. gets full-bodied treatment on DVD. The image has been transferred in letterboxed format at the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, and the audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround formats (there is also an alternate French language track in Dolby Digital Stereo). The dialogue has also been translated into optional subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai. Director Singleton provides an additional commentary track, and there's a short documentary (produced for the premium-cable service Cinemax) on the production of the film. In addition, there are a handful of deleted scenes and alternate takes, a blooper reel, highlights from the film's storyboards (with comparisons to the finished product), music videos for songs written for the film, production notes and filmographies on the principal cast and crew, and trailers and TV spots created to promote the picture.

Maybe its just me, but is kinda hard looking at Tyrese as a gangster when he first started in a Cocola commerical singing their jingle with a big smile. Not gangster, but I could be wrong. Ms Henson on the other hand is just beautiful, and not because she gets nake but her acting had me interested in seeing the ending. One last thing, Snoop gains some weight
What's great about it: Taraji P Henson is just golden
What's not so great: Tyrese as a gangster

John Singleton's remake of Shaft comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include cast and crew interviews, a behind-the-scenes featurette, a theatrical trailer, and music videos from Isaac Hayes and R. Kelly. This is a great-looking, great-sounding release from Paramount.

This is a good remake with Samuel Jackson as Shaft and the addition of Jefferey Wright and Christian Bale as villians, was just a great combination. From beginning to the end, just non-stop action that have on your heels to see what happens next.

I love the movie and heard most of the score during the movie, but cd itself is a good listen
What's great about it: Tough Guy feat. UGK/OutKast
What's not so great: Up and Outta Here feat. R. Kelly, just because you can only like one song from R

John Singleton's sophomore effort Poetic Justice comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. English, French, and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Singleton, filmographies and bios for the cast, and theatrical trailers. This is a great disc from Columbia/TriStar, especially when one considers the inexpensive list price.

Ms. Jackson wasn't good a down homegirl, but she did her best. I mean, she never lived in the hood, so you gotta give her a benefit of doubt. Now Ms. Regina King is the high point of the movie, with her acting with Chicago and crazy lines when she is drunk. Tupac is great a postal worker, who is fed up with the 9 to 5 and wants something new in life
What's great about it: Tupac as a non-thugging character
What's not so great: Ms. Jackson seemed out of place
