Tha "Essential" Album from a Rockabilly Legend
on November 14, 2008

Jack Scott is sometimes overlooked as a major force. His voice and it's range rank only behind those of Elvis and Roy Orbison. His career has been hampered only by his dislike of traveling to promote his works. In a 41 month span , he produced more U.S. singles than only one other artist/artists - the Beatles!
An excellent songwriter ( the only work contained on the album that he did not write was his #3 hit, "Burning Bridges"). Other Top 100 Hits songs featured are "My True Love" (#3 also), "What In the Worlds's Come Over You".(#5), and "Leroy" (#11).
It is a record collector's dream - and an "Absolute Must Have" for every rockabilly fan who has not yet discovered him. It provides an exciting
listening experience.
What's great about it: The cuts are all major hits

A Great Album That Features Only His "Top 40" Hits
on November 13, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
Bobby Vee (so named by Bob Dylan) was one of the most prolific hit makers in the early 60's. He produced 38 Top 100 Hits, ten of which hit the top 20's.
This album contains 10 of those, including his #1 hit "Take Good Care of My Baby" as well as "Rubber Ball" and "Devil Or Angel" both of which peaked at #6.
Often referred to as a Buddy Holly soundalike ( he has done a cover of some of Holly's hits) , it is ironic that he was a member of the group that filled in for Holly at the scheduled concert the night of that fateful plane crash.
There are so many reasons to recommend this album that it would take another review to get them all in.
Anyone who passes up purchasing it at this modest price are depriving themselves and their collection of a "jewel" from the record industry.
What's great about it: EVERY song on the album is a hit from the early 60's

Their Best Album Ever
on November 12, 2008

Letterman's favorite blues/rock band finally hit paydirt with this exceptional album (their fourth) in 1994.
The single "Runaround" is a magnificent example. It instantly became an MTV favoirite - and the video was worthy of the acclaim if received.
Lead vocalist/harmonica virtuoso John Popper is the catalyst that inspires almost legendary-like performances from the group. "Hook" , another valuable cut, should not be ignored, as it is almost as compelling.
If you are looking for the absolute contemporary blues band album, this more than fits the bill.
What's great about it: Their Best album ever

This 'timeless" Teen Idol Album At A Bargain Price
on November 11, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
Darren, best remebered as "Moondoggie" in the movie "Gidget"- and as one one the time travelers in TV's "Time Tunnel" in the 70's gives us his best on this early album.
The multi-talented "teen idol" demonstates why he was revered by his peers and went on to a long successful career, which included being the singing voice for Yogi Bear in the 60's to the "holographic singer" on Star Trek-Deep Space Nine in the 90's.
His greatest hits from the Billboard Hot 100 list "Goodbye Cruel World",
"Gidget", "Her Royal Majesty", "and "Angel Face" are present , as are several of his lesser hits.
The album, which had a great impact on the music of the early 60's, is a must for every fan of that era, as well as collectors.
It would be a bargain at twice the price, but the the listening pleasure and memories it revives are priceless.
What's great about it: Contains many of his late 50's-early 60's hits

A Terrific "Do Wop" Album from the Early 60's
on November 10, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
Unlike their Ford Motor Co. namesakes, these Edsels are still up and running. Though the era has long since past, this group still is performing
today to packed houses and on many "oldies" shows.
Their biggest hit (included, and foremost on this hard to find album, was their 1957 release "Rama Lama Ding Dong", which did not reach popularity until 1961, possibly because if was incorrectly released under the title of "Lama Rama Ding Dong".
That song alone makes this a worthy purchase, but there is so much more here to remind you of those glorious times in Pop history.
Everyone should have this in their collection !!! I t is the ultimate for anyone who appreciates that genre of music, and, this group is the epitomy of that music ( is it any wonder they were one of the few signed by a major record label ?)
The listening experience is worth it's weight in gold.
What's great about it: Their biggest and most "sought after" hit

Powerful Performances Propel This Soundtrack Album
on November 9, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
The title song for this soundtrack is one of the best, if not the best, allegorical songs ever written, and it propelled Bette to her first gold record in 6 years after her recording debut.
Her screen perfomance in the film , based loosely on Janis Joplin,
was magnetic, but the driving force behind the film's success was her delivery of of the songs written for the film- and each is a "work of art".
This album is such a"'steal" that no one should even think twice about it's purchase.
It is a monumental and crowning achievement for reviving the rock/blues era it depicts.
What's great about it: The "Divine Miss M" is at Her Best

Terrific Album Featuring The Teen Idol's Best Hits
on November 8, 2008

If you want an album where the hits just keep on coming, then you will really appreciate this one from Bobby Rydell. During the early years of his career (1959-1963), he charted 19 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 list-6 top 10's , 12 top 20's, and 1 top 40's. With a few exceptions, they are all present here. "Wild One", "Volare", "Swinging School" and "Kissing Time"
are major highlights. But, there are so many more.
Collectors and "Amercan Bandstand" fans of the pre-British Invasion
rock era should add this modestly priced album to their collection without question. It is memorable !
What's great about it: Almost all the cuts on this album hit the Billboard Hot 100 List

Outstanding Album From Scotlan's "Dylan Clone"
on November 7, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
This album is almost too good to be true. It contains "Mellow Yellow"-his signature song- as well as many others such as "Atlantis" (with uncredited backup vocals by Paul McCartney), "Sunshine Superman",
"Catch the Wind", "Hurdy Gurdy Man", "Jennifer Juniper", and many others (29 in all).
Each cut is distinctive because, like Dylan, he was influenced by all forms of music-pop, rock, folk, and even jazz.
It is a terrific "Best Buy" not only because of the music, but alsobecause of the modest price for which it is available. It's a "Must Have" for every collector and Donovan/Dylan fan. Dylan left huge foorprints on this genre of music and Donovan fills them quite well.
What's great about it: Contains All of His Major Hits

Career Best Album From A "Philly Teen Idol"
on November 5, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
In 1958, at age 15, Fabian received the Silver Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist. This album contains the best of his hits during his short-lived career, Including "Tiger" (his biggest hit) and "Turn Me Loose".
His career ended quickly because of the1960's payola scandal-and because of allegations that his voice was "enhanced" to make it better, a common practice now in our computer age.
His popularity didn't end everything for him at that point, as he went on to appear in 30 movies. And, he now apprears in Branson to packed crowds as a member of the "Philly Triumvirate" alongside his Philadelphia contemporaries, Frankie Avalon and Bobby Vee.
This is a VERY collectable album, not so much for quality as for legend
and rock and roll history. Anyone who passes it up will regret it.
For every collector, this album is a must .
What's great about it: Contains most of his hit songs
What's not so great: ome performances are a little "uneven" in quality

An Album That's Full of Memories
on November 4, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
Brian Hyland became an instant success in 1960 as his song "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Wenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
His follow up, "Sealed With A Kiss" climbed to #3 in both the Hot 100 chart (where it remained for 11 weeks ) and the UK charts. It was reissued in 1975 and climbed to #7. It is still one of the favorites and most requested songs on "oldies stations" across America
Other top 40 hits on this album are 62's "Ginny Come Lately' and 1971's "Gypsy Woman".
Even today fans flock to hear him perform these at the American Bandstand Theatre in Branson.
This modestly priced album is worth every cent. It should be a collectors dream and a must for them as well as fans of the early rock era.
What's great about it: Contains 4 of His Top 40 Hits
