#1 Album and Single in the U.S. and UK
on August 6, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
In 1983 Men at Work won the Grammy Award for "Best New Artist" and this album is the reason why.
They were the first Australian band to ever win such an award: and, this album clearly is almost a perfect album.
With hits such as "Down Under" and "Who Can it Be Now", the album sold 30 million copies worldwide.
It is a slick New Wave sound with crisp and energetic performances on every cut.
One cannot ever regret adding this to their collection.
What's great about it: Every song is a "Work of Art"

A Minor "British Invasion" band at it's best
on August 4, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
Peter and Gordon were a short-lived phenom in 1964 during the "British Invasion".
Their biggest hit, "A World without Love" is one of the 2 highlights on this album. The other is "Woman, which was written for them by the Beatles' Paul Mc Cartney-under a pseudonym- who was dating one of the duo's sister at the time.
They should not be overlooked, but their influence on the music scene was not lasting.
Their harmony of pleasant, non-offensive voices is there, but the material is not original and they never fulfilled their initial promise.
Though they are fixtures on the nostalgia shows, this is strictly for fans who must have every "Invasion" album.
What's great about it: 1964-65 Hits are featured
What's not so great: Attempts to "redo" American Hits doesn't always work

Relive A Moment in Rock History
on August 3, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
This double album chronicles the 1971 performances at one of the most momentous gatherings of talent in Rock History- George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar, and Leon Russell to name a few.
The album includes the first live performance of the Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which reveals the fact that Clapton, not Harrison, was responsible for the terrific guitar solo on the original recording.
Every rock fan should have this album, because such talented Rock Legends haves not been assembled since.
What's great about it: Great Live Perforances By Rock Legends

A look at a legendary LA singer/songwriter
on August 2, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
LA's best little-known singer/songwriter shines with his efforts in this album. Present are probably his best hit , "Werewolves of London", along with his performances of songs that he wrote for other artists, such as "Poor,Poor,Pitiful Me" which he penned for Linda Ronstadt.
His sardonic, humorous view of life is reflected in his songs. He was a terrific favorite of his peers- like Jackson Browne- and his work should not be overlooked. It is a joy. Even Rolling Stone's Record Guide hails his work as a masterpiece.
Do not miss this true "genius" at work.
What's great about it: Features his best Grammy Award winning work

Essnetial Purchase for all Doors Fans
on August 1, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
This 2 CD set is a must for all Doors fans. The songs
that made them one of the greatest bands ever (Rolling Stone Magazine rates them #41 on it's All Time Greatest Bands list- although they should be a little higher).
It's easy to understand their appeal, with hits like "Light My Fire" and the haunting "The End", which was featured in Coppala's "Apocalypse Now".
Their performances are powerful and dramatic.
Every rock fan should add this to their collection without hesitation.
What's great about it: Contains 19 of their Greatest Hits

Great Value for a "British Invasion" Band
on July 31, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
The Searchers were a part of the "British Invasion" in 1963; and although they never achieved the success of the Beatles or "Stones", this album cannot be overlooked.
"Needles and Pins" was a monster hit in the UK (the song was penned by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono of Sonny and Cher fame- and named for the John Wayne movie).
The Searchers were not a driving focce as other groups were in the "Invasion", but should never
be ignored.
This album proves that, and is a must for any collector
of 60's mersey beat rock.
What's great about it: 30 of their besy works

A 3x PLATINUM ALBUM AT A GREAT BUY !
on July 29, 2008

from Dallas, TX.
There can be no doubt that Eric Clapton is a rock/blues legend. This album shows you why.
The guitar work is excellent (as to be expected), but the vocals almost equal that pinnacle.
There is a reason that Fender produced a Stratocaster named for him, and this album is proof that Clapton is the worthiest receipient of such an honor to date.
What's great about it: The greatest rock/blues guitarist ever at his very best

Best Kinks Album Ever
on July 27, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
When you really want to get out all of the Kinks, this double album is just what the music doctor ordered.
The performances are lively as always and the lyrics are lively and laced with humor in many instances.
Social comments ? Maybe, but most likely they are just having with the British environment they grew up in.
"Lola", "All Day and All of the Night" are highlights. All cuts reflect their distintive musical prowess.
THIS IS A MUST HAVE COLLECTION !!!!
What's great about it: Contains all their monster hits

60's British Hard Rock At It's Best
on July 26, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
The most powerful Hard Rock band to lead the 60's British Invasion really delivers in this album, which includes their "My Generation", "Who Are You",and , course, "Pinball Wizard", which inspired their Rock Opera.
The album leaves no doubt that the Who was a dramatic force of the era. Their energetic performances here are a testament to that.
Even Abbott and Costello know that "The Who's on first."

Rock/ R&B Greats at Their Very Best
on July 25, 2008
Posted by: jaxda1
from Dallas, TX.
The Coasters are in their best late '60s and early 70s form in this album.
"Yakety Yak" topped both the Rock/Pop and Rhythm and Blues Charts in the U.S. and made it to #12 in the U.K.
The followup "Charlie Brown" climbed to #2 on both
U.S. charts and #6 in the U.K.
If there is one album that epitomizes that early era of Rock and Roll history, it is this one.
Every collector and rock efficianado should have a copy of this !!!!!
What's great about it: Contains All of Their Biggest Hits
