Great way to clean tile!
on December 27, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
I have a lot of tile floor surface and this steam mop is the best way to clean it! We both were amazed how good this steam mop did the job! It's very easy to assemble and use.
In the box you'll get 2 handles - one for steam cleaning and another one just for regular mopping, both handles work with the same mop. Using steam handle is extremely easy - fill it up with water, plug it in and wait about a minute for it to warm up, then just press the steam button and start mopping. It takes about 30 seconds for the mop to become wet and steamy. Mopping effort is about the same as vacuuming the thick carpet. Cleaned surface is left a little bit damp and warm, average mop surface temperature (measured with the infrared thermometer) was around 150F. Tough places could be blasted with the special "power steam" feature - flip the mop head back and tilt the mop handle down - tip will emit a strong stream of the steam, no stain could resist it.
After mopping is complete - turn off the steam, unplug the mop and just release the mopping cloth into the bucket without touching it by hand. Mop cloth can be easily washed in the washer and then dried in the dryer on delicate cycle.
Overall Pros:
+ Best cleaning action I've ever seen, no regular mop or even chemicals come close to the steam mopping, floors are clean as they could be.
+ Easy no mess operation, fill with clean water, mop, dump the dirty rag into the bucket. Wash the mopping cloth in the washer.
+ Little mopping effort is required
Cons:
- How steam may not be good for some hardwood floors, please make sure to check with your flooring manufacturer! You may only be able to use the regular mopping handle on these surfaces.
- Power cord is very stiff (even it's just 18AWG), outer jacket is plastic and it's hard to bend. I wish they just used a rubberized jacket instead.

Great companion for Apple Watch
on December 20, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
This is a great companion if you need to charge your Apple Watch or iPhone away from home. Nothing like having your watch die on you during the travel, airport, plane, train, etc... Sometimes you can find a USB charing port but rarely apple watch charger is available, this power pack is a perfect solution! Put your watch on, press the On button and your are good!
Pros:
+ Can charge both Watch and iPhone at the same time, it can also be plugged into the power supply while charging so it would charge internal battery as well. Useful if you just arrived to the hotel and want to set everything up for charging and just go to sleep.
+ Can pull up to 2.4A over the USB for fast charging
+ Pretty lightweight for the capacity - about 6.4oz
+ magnet for the Watch is powerful enough to hold 42mm watch upside down
Cons:
- Nothing is included in the box except the charging pack itself and a micro USB cable (4ft) for the pack. No wall adapter, no lightning cable! You will need to provide your own power adapter capable of producing 2.4A at 5V (12W like an iPad charger) and your own iPhone charging cable.

Lightweight and powerful!
on November 16, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
This is a very nice trimmer for all round grooming use. Comes with 4 cutting attachments (wide clipper, narrow clipper, foil shaving attachement and nostril hair trimmer) and 3 combs (for scalp, beard and body).
LiIon battery provides plenty of power to run this trimmer up to 60 minutes on regular speed, for the tough hair - trimmer could be switched to the "turbo" mode which would consume more battery obviously. Once discharged - it takes about 1 hour to charge the battery using included power adapter (which is 100-240V AC 50/60Hz compatible).
Overall points:
Good:
60 minutes runtime on a single charge
Ability to quick charge (5 minutes of charging gives about 5 minutes of run time)
Turbo mode for touch hair
Everything you need for all around grooming (head, beard, nose/ears, body) is included in the kit (even a small bottle of blade lubrication oil)
Trimmer is shower proof (but not the charging cable!)
Low battery warning - trimmer will illuminate an orange LED when about 10 mintes of run time remaining
Soft carrying pouch is included
Things not so good:
No battery charge indicator, all you have is 10 minutes warning before it dies, but there is no clue otherwise
Can't operate while charging, charging cable needs to be disconnected in order to operate the trimmer
Comb depth settings are in millimeters only, you'll need to convert to inches if you are not used to the metric system.

Smart and entertaining device for the family!
on November 4, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
I was not a fan of a voice control before, but this have a potential of changing that! My family spent a whole evening talking to it, asking various things, it was real fun!
Goole Home device is a size of a big coffee mug, with a detachable base (Google will start selling those bases as accessories in different colors very soon), base is magnetically attached to the device and could be pulled off by twisting it or just yanking it down. 3x2" speakers and hiding underneath along with a micro USB port that is currently not used for anything (I suspect micro USB is for service purposes only), no other ports are present.
DC power port is at the bottom and Google Home comes with it's own DC power supply compatible with 110-240V input and giving 16.5 VDC out at 2 Amps. Google Home can't be powered by the USB. Power cord is 70" long and comes with a soft rubber strap to keep it organized.
Top surface is touch sensitive and has a ring of 12 multi colored LEDs to indicate the device status, mute button along with a small power LED is at the back of the device.
To start interacting with the Google Home - first thing you'll need is to pair it, it's a straightforward process, all you need is a phone or tablet (iOS or Android) with Google Home app running, everything is done from inside the app, you won't need to hop on different WiFi network or anything like that, I believe app is communicating with the Google Home via Bluetooth at the setup time (since the WiFi credentials are not yet known to it).
You will be prompted to pick a Google Account you want the device linked to, then pick a source of the Music (out of: Google Play Music, Pandora (free account is OK), Spotify (paid account needed) or YouTube music (paid account needed)) and a source of News.
Google Home would also look for any Chromecast devices on your network and will be able to pair to them (unfortunately it does not work with Android TVs yet).
Now - the main thing - talking to it!
To attract it's attention you could say "Hey, Google" or "OK, Google", it's pretty sensitive as I could talk to it from any corner of my 600sq ft living room and it could understand me perfectly. Alternatively - just hold your finger on top surface until 4 lights appear and say your command.
Every command you say will be listed in the history inside of the Google Home app, you could even play your command back (so you know who said it!) and sometimes even look at the details of the answer such as URL it used to pull the recipe from. Google Home will keep a context of some commands like you could say "OK, Google, Who is Mr X?" and then "OK, Google, when was he born?" and it will know you asking about "Mr X" again! However if you ask "What's on my shopping list?" and then "Add potatoes" - it won't get it, it would read you some potatoes recipe instead. I'm hoping this will be improved soon!
Speaking of shopping lists - you'll find it in the Google Keep app on your phone.
Other things you can ask - weather, time, setting timers (you can set different timers for different things like 5 minutes for "potatoes", 3 minutes for "steak", etc), translations of different words and phrases to different languages.
Sometimes "Home" will surprise you - like saying "Good Morning" will get you - current time, weather forecast for today and a news report from the news sources you've configured.
However - it can's set reminders yet, hope that is coming!
Music - "Home" will play music from the internet source you've configured and it could cast it to any chromecast enabled speakers you have. There is no direct audio output or ability to pair a bluetooth speaker directly to the Home device. Internal speakers of the "Home" put our pretty good sound for their size.
Videos - anything you ask will be looked up on youtube and "casted" to Chromecast devices you have, it does not support Android TV yet, nor Roku or Apple TV devices.
Smart Home integration - right now "Home" can control Nest thermostats, SmartThings and Philips Hue devices. I've tried Nest integration and it works flawlessly - you can ask what is the current temperature in the room, set the thermostat setpoints (even if you keep your Nest in Heat-Cool mode!). Unfortunately my home automation system (ISY) is not yet supported by the "Home" directly, but IFTTT is here to help! I was able to use "Google Assistant" channel combined with a "Maker" channel to control lights in my home no problem. I'm real excited about the possibilities this opens!
Just be mindful about the security - don't let it disarm your alarm, unlock your smart locks or anything that could be used to gain unauthorized access. Another point - if you keep your "Home" near your home phone - someone could call it and once it goes to automatic answering - tell your Google Home to do anything.
Few things to improve: multiple Google Accounts support (like maybe home and work, or different family members accounts), maybe add Exchange and iCloud account support as well (I use Office 365 at work and unfortunately "Home" can't access it), more device integration (Andorid TVs, Roku, etc) and open developer API of course!
Overall - it's a wonderful start by Google! "Home" is a very capable device on it's 1st day and would only improve in the future!

Great router for WRT enthusiasts!
on October 26, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
This router is a very good choice for an average size home. Nice selection of features and modern radio setup make this device a great deal!
Enclosure is quality made and does have key holes on the bottom suitable for wall mounting, bottom feet provide adequate cooling air flow. LEDs on the front panel are easy to read and give you a good idea on the device status. There is also an option to disable activity lights so they won't bother you at night (I wish Linksys made this available for a specific time period).
Port selection consists of 1 WAN port, 4 LAN ports, 1 combo USB/eSata port and a USB 3.0 port which could be used to connect an external hard drive or a USB enabled printer. 3G/4G backup modem is not supported by the factory firmware, however - that could be fixed, keep reading :)
Initial setup is extremely easy, connect to the modem using the included Ethernet cable and to the power. Initial setup wizard will guide you thru a few screens and that's it!
Router can be setup to function in multiple modes: as a regular "main" router, as a repeater to boost your existing WiFi network or as a bridge to connect to the existing WiFi and create a separate WiFi of it's own. Plus an access point (bridge) mode - router will turn into the "dumb" repeater - just adding a WiFi capability to your existing wired network.
The primary use case will be as a "main" router of course. If you set it up like that - you have a wide variety of choices for your provider connection - regular DHCP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP and fixed IP address, it has an ability to change it's ISP facing MAC address if your provider requires that.
Once you get your devices to connect to this router - you'll be able to see the network "map" - a detailed look at your network showing all the connected devices, click on any device will give you an ability to look at the details, make a DHCP reservation, or setup a parental controls. Nice touch is the ability to see the traffic used by each client separately. Router also does support VLANs, just in case your provider uses different (tagged) VLANs for Internet and IP TV, ports 3 and 4 of the internal switch could be assigned for the special VLAN in that case.
Router is capable of supporting 2 bands - 2.4GHz and 5GHz, you can name them the same or give different names if you like to do so, then point your fast devices to the 5GHz network and slow ones to 2.4GHz. Some more expensive tri-band routers will provide you with a seconds 5GHz network so you could set it up as 802.11ac only for extremely fast WiFi for the fast devices (laptops, for example). This router could only do 2 bands though.
This router is also capable of creating a special isolated "guest" network which is not going to be encrypted, your guests will be presented with a web page to enter "guest" password (kinda like at the hotels, airports, also known as a "captive" mode).
Radio signal strength is sufficient and I was getting the full speed at the distances around 50ft between the router and device, however at about 75ft and a few walls - speed has dropped from 200Mbit/s down to about 10Mbit/s. Consider a repeater or additional access point if you wish to cover a big home.
Parental controls - any device on your network could be limited by the access schedule (so you can make sure your kids don't spend more time online than they allowed to), plus you could setup a list of sites that are not allowed to be accessed from those devices. That web site list has to be setup one by one.
Media prioritization - if you have a slow internet access (and starting that download makes your Netflix buffer) - you can give some services a "priority" (little bit more bandwidth) which may be helpful. Router comes with a wide variety of pre-defined services/games or you could define your own range of ports.
Security features - this router has a standard packet - DMZ support, port forwarding, port triggering, UPnP support. I would like to mention that your typical home network is always behind the NAT so it's not accessible from the outside Internet unless you setup port forwarding so you don't have to worry about outside attacks. Looking thru the settings on the security panel made me look into the help, for example I would not have guessed that "Filter anonymous Internet requests" flag really makes this router to ignore incoming ping requests, I wish Linksys named it more self-explanatory (like "Ignore incoming Ping requests").
Troubleshooting and logging - router's management interface gives you an ability to send ping probes, use traceroute, backup and restore it's configuration and also e-mail your configuration to Linksys support just in case you are having problems.
OpenVPN server - this is really a great feature which would allow you to setup a secure way to your home network for something like viewing your IP cameras, accessing files on the local hard drive, etc. Client is widely available for any platform.
However, the best part still to come, being a WRT router - you could install a custom Open Source firmware on it named OpenWRT or DD-WRT. I was able to install OpenWRT absolutely no problem and that opens up a whole new world of possibilities, your router becomes a mini computer you could run almost anything on! Create your own firewall setup, file server, various application servers, about 3000 packages are available!
Overall: if you are looking for a great hardware to run OpenWRT or DD-WRT on - this router is for you! It provides plenty of RAM and horsepower, strong WiFi radio and it looks great!

Control what you hear!
on October 3, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
Amazing sound out of these little earbuds! Crystal clear audio with the very crisp spot on base and a good frequency range will satisfy even a picky listener. Truly impressive quality for Bluetooth!
Earbuds came with a very soft silicone eartips that are really comfortable to my ears, much softer than I used to. They won't hurt even after a whole work day at the office, but stay secure in the ear. 3 sizes of eartips (Small, Medium and Large) are included in the box. "Mushroom" piece that goes into an ear canal can not be separated from the "finger" that locks into the ear.
Neck band is about 6" in diameter and feels pretty soft and comfortable, it does not rub, however if you plan running wearing these earbuds - you may need to secure the neck band so it won't bounce. Total weight is only 2.2 oz.
Earbuds are connected to the neck band with 9" wires. Whole system looks sweat proof (micro USB charging port on the neck band is covered with the little rubber door when not in use), but I could not find anything in the manual or on the box advertising it.
Pairing with the phone was a breeze, earbuds could be paired to 2 devices at the same time. During the first pairing - you will be prompted to download the Bose connect app so you could control the earbuds (update firmware, manage paired device list, and control the active noise cancelling).
Headphones will announce the devices they paired to and it's easy to switch between devices by pressing the power button.
Active noise cancelling is a little different on these - it's power could be controlled from the app or with buttons on the side of the remote. On it's lowest level - earbuds will actually act like a pass thru - they will listen to everything around you and play it to your ears - just like you are not wearing any earbuds at all! It was a new feeling which I had to adjust to for a bit, but I actually found it very useful, I don't need to take the earbuds out to talk to somebody! As you gradually increase the noise filtering level - earbuds will remove the outside noise, at about 25% setting - you'll feel like in a regular earbuds, but if you keep increasing - outside sounds will go away completely. I've tried these in a noisy computer room - and at the maximum setting - I could not hear anything around me at all, that is impressive! I would say noise cancelling is more powerful than on QC35! Bose really improved it! However in the quiet environment - don't max out the noise cancelling - it will start generating a buzzing noise by itself, keep it around 50% or less.
Battery life is announced as 10 hours and that depends on the amount of noise and volume I guess, because they were still at 50% after 8 hours at work. Micro USB charging cable is included (1 ft).
Earbuds came with a semi hard travel case measuring about 7" in diameter and 1.5" thick, total weigh in the case with the USB cable is 6.3oz.
Overall: great sound, solid Bluetooth connection with no interruptions, long battery life (10 hours+), impressive active noise reduction - makes these earbuds a great choice for anyone, from runners to office workers.

Fantastic WiFi Coverage!
on September 21, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
I've installed this set (Router + Satellite) and walked around the house with my tablet running speed test - I could not find a spot where my internet speed would be under 350 Mbit/s anywhere!
WiFi signal strength is perfect thru the whole house, back yard, front yard - everywhere, so if you having wifi coverage problems - this set will solve most of them!
Overall setup is extremely easy - connect to the modem with the included Ethernet cable, power on the router, power on the satellite, connect to the WiFi. Initial setup could be done via the router's web interface or a Netgear Genie mobile app.
Satellite uses a separate backhaul network to communicate with the main router wirelessly (unlike a regular WiFi Range Extender) so your regular WiFi bandwidth is not reduced by the satellite presence. Backhaul network shows that it's operating at 1733Mbit/s even with the router and satellite being on a different levels at the opposite corners of my house. That internal link network does not show up on the clients WiFi network list and appears to be encrypted, password can be re-generated on the router for extra security. Satellite itself does not need any separate setup, but it will receive it's own IP address and it does have it's own simple web interface.
Router configuration is pretty basic - built in DHCP server, NAT, port forwarding and port triggering. Parental controls present as well, allowing you to setup a list of the restricted web sites (or keywords found in the site names) and services.
WiFi can be scheduled to turn on and off automatically as well. MAC address filtering is supported, WiFi authentication methods are limited to WPA and WPA2, this set does not support WPA2-Enterprise authentication (aka Radius server authentication).
List of the attached devices will show device MAC, IP address, device name and connection type - wired or wireless, but no band or speed is available thru the web interface (speed and signal strength information is available via the Genie app).
Built it logging is real good - router will create a log entry for all connection attempts, parental control violations and other security events and e-mail you the logs on the pre-defined schedule (when full, hourly or daily). There is no syslog support.
Other supported features include: dynamic DNS support, basic IPv6, QoS, UPnP. Remote management (via Internet) is possible if configured.
This set could be configured as a pure Access Point as well, if you already have a router which you prefer to use and just need a WiFi, all internal router features will be disabled in the Access Point mode. Unfortunately it's not possible to hardwire the satellite to the router, the only supported communication mode is via a dedicated wireless backhaul.
Guest network is not yet supported, but I've heard that it's going to be available by the end of the 2016.
Physically - router and the satellite look identical, and their physical dimensions allow to conceal them easily, for example I have my satellite between the couch and a wall - it fits perfect and is out of the way. Neither Router nor Satellite have any blinking lights during the normal operation, the only light is a power LED on the back. Router has 3 1Gbit/s LAN ports and Satellite has 4, both have USB 2.0 ports but they don't seem to be active right now, they probably will be with the future software updates.
Overall: great WiFi coverage even with just the router itself, satellite doubles it. You'll say "good buy" to the "spotty" coverage, however router software features are pretty basic - it lacks Radius support, VPN, USB ports are not yet active.

Finally an Android tabled designed for your car!
on September 11, 2016
Posted by: xKing
from Frisco, TX
This tablet would be a real good option for those who want just an Android tablet in the car, it mounts hassle free with the included mount. I used the "bean bag" as a base and suction cup attached to the bean bag.
Tablet has a magnetic attachment at the back that takes care of the electrical connections as well so all you need to do is to place the tablet on the mount and that's it! No wires to plug in!
Physically it's a very well made device with rubberized back which makes it secure in hand, screen is bright and I had no problem looking at it with my polarized sunglasses on.
It has micro USB port for charging / data transfer, micro SD card slot, mini HDMI port and a 3.5mm sound output jack.
Mount has a full size USB port, 3.5mm sound output jack that you can connect to your car's AUX input and a power port, that connects to the standard 12V DC or 24V DC cigarrete lighter outlet. Optionally - you can screw in an included FM transmitter antenna to the mount, so it will output sound to your car's FM receiver.
Hardware volume control, power switch and a home button are on top of the tablet, buttons are easy to operate while the car is moving.
Unfortunately this tablet does not have a built in modem so if you would like to connect it to the Internet while on the road - you will need to have some kind of WiFi in your car. This kinda defeats the main product slogan of making any car a connected one, you will still need to provide your own connection. I've used a mobile WiFi hotspot for my test.
Included apps:
Navigation - I liked that one, it comes with the lifetime Map update, directions are clear and easy to follow, speed limit is displayed for major roads and you could optionally setup a notification for when you are over the speed limit for X number of MPH. No school zone alerts though.
Online functions include gas prices (by GasBuddy), traffic and weather - all of these require tablet to have an active internet connection. Weather could be useful when planning your route while pulling a trailer for example, so you could avoid windy roads. Mount does have a very good GPS receiver built in so when tablet is on the dash - you will be getting a strong GPS coverage, however if you take the tablet off the dash - it will turn into "Waiting for GPS signal" mode without a clear sky view.
Dash Camera - well, it requires you to mount your tablet so it's back camera is acting like a dash cam but that means you have to position tablet vertically, aim camera on the road and make sure nothing is in front of it. I've tried using it and while picture quality is good - frame rate is not, it's more like 15 FPS which makes passing cars look blurry. You would also need to start the Dash Cam recording every time you start your car since it would automatically stop recording every time you turn your car off (and tablet looses the external power). During my tests I've found that included mount is pretty shaky and it makes a camera recording pretty shaky too. There is an option to record sound, but no way to put current date/time, speed, GPS coordinates on the record.
Collision waring - unfortunately it was showing "calibration" and was never able to do anything, I suspect it may be due to the position of the front facing camera in my car. In addition to that - you can't launch the collision warning app AND a dash cam app at the same time - they would complain that camera device is used by the other application.
Backup Camera - it requires you to purchase an optional backup camera kit from Rand McNally, I did not have the kit for this test.
Tire Pressure and Temperature monitoring - again - that's an optional accessory (4 sensors and a receiver module) that is sold separately.
I see this one being very useful for the trailers, so you always know your trailer tires are ok.
Car Diagnostics - that is really a DashCommand app that is available for the purchase and requires an optional OBD II reader accessory which is sold separately.
Other pre installed apps include Rand McNally app store, Road Atlas and trip planner.
Besides pre-installed apps - tablet comes with the choice of 3 external app stores you can install: Amazon App Store, APKPure and Aptiode. Google Play Store is not available by default but you can put it on manually. After that - you are free to download anything you like, about 18Gb of onboard memory is available.
Overall - it's a great hardware with a lot of options, hassle free mount and connection to the car, but included software needs some work.

Power your Apple devices with this Belkin charge dock. It comes with a Lightning connector that charges iPhones and an integrated magnetic charger that provides Apple watches with more juice when needed. The single built-in cable of this Belkin charge dock lets you charge both devices simultaneously, saving you the inconvenience of using multiple cords.

Great dock for Apple Watch owners!

It's a great dock if you want your night stand organized with no wires dangling around! iPhone and Apple Watch fit great (I've tried both 38mm and 42mm models) and magnet is strong enough so watch will stay charging even with a metal band. The only downside is that you can't use "nightstand mode" on the watch without removing the band, they won't fit in the "landscape" mode. iPhone charing port will accommodate any iPhone or iPod with case or no case (height of the charging connector is easily adjustable), it would even charge an Apple TV remote :) Charging dock is very solid and weights 1lb alone, you could even charge an iPad on it (but watch won't fit then).
I was surprised to see power brick output rating: 12V 6A which is a whooping 72W - that is more than enough for a super fast charging.
Overall - great product, love it!

Great travel companion

This laptop would be a great travel companion. Screen can be folded all the way to the back making this laptop a big tablet, Windows recognizes it as a "tablet mode" and adjusts the interface so that's easy to use that way. Tablet mode is a great idea if your space is limited such as a car or an airplane. That is if you don't mind wiping your fingerprints off the screen later.
Overall construction is very nice and solid, aluminum top cover and plastic bottom make it easy to hold and it does not get real hot to the touch while working. Bottom is fairly easy to take off (philips screwdriver and plastic prying tools needed) allowing access to the single memory slot and a hard drive (watch for hard drive - it will fall off when bottom cover is off). Laptop has a good selection of ports (including HDMI, 2x USB 3 and a USB-C!) making it easy to connect to the accessories you need. Hardware volume control paddle is located on the right side of the laptop almost next to the power switch - I actually send laptop to sleep couple of times while trying to adjust the speaker volume, so be careful.
Screen resolution is a full 1920x1080 HD but the space under the screen (where the Acer logo is) feels unused - I wish Acer did extend the screen to the bottom a bit more. From the beginning - my laptop had a very noticeable green tint to the screen which I had to correct using the Windows color calibration tool - no issues after that.
Keyboard and the touchpad are functional and easy to use, keyboard is backlit (either on or off, no brightness adjustment).
Battery - I was able to use laptop for 4 full hours watching videos, surfing web and working on the documents before battery fully drained, it took it 3 hours to charge back to 100%. Included 45W power adapter is surprisingly small and easy to pack, supports any voltage from 100 to 240 so overseas travel is not a problem!
Performance - I did not notice any delays while working with the big office documents, 8 Gb RAM (upgradeable to 12Gb) and i5 CPU have more than enough for any office tasks, however I would recommend upgrading to SSD if you require a lot of disk activity.
Overall - great laptop for those who work on the go and need a good selection of ports at the workplace, strong performer!

It's really comes down to your personal preference. HP you've mentioned has a smaller 13.3" screen, but a solid state drive will perform better. Acer has a bigger screen but a slower mechanical hard drive.

Physically - any 2.5" SSD drive will fit. It really depends on your budget and how much storage would you like to have. I personally use Crucial drives.

Finally an Android tabled designed for your car!
By xKing from Frisco, TX

Well, it did install, but you are correct - Google Services App is crashing. I suspect it needs a little bit more that that, probably a GAPPS package, just need to find a way to load it. I will post here if I will be successful.

Great for beginners, easy and plenty of features!
By xKing from Frisco, TX
This is a great receiver if you just getting into the home theater, plenty of features, 6 HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI inputs, 7 on-board amplifiers make it a great choice!
Setup is extremely easy and detailed wiring instructions are available in the manual as well as on-screen guide, you could get it all setup in less than 30 minutes.
There are the biggest advantages:
1) Great streaming capabilities - receiver supports Apple AirPlay, Google Chromecast Audio (it could be also controlled with Google Assistant) and Spotify (premium Spotify subscription is required). AirPlay support includes synchronous playback in multiple rooms.
2) Receiver supports all existing High Definition Audio formats - DSD, DTS-MA, Dolby ATMOS, DTS:X
3) Very easy automatic speaker setup and configuration.
4) 2 zones are supported, this receiver can power total of 7 speakers at the same time, so if you enable zone 2 - your 7.1 or 5.1.2 speaker configuration would become 5.1
5) great networking options - Ethernet or WiFi connections supported
6) Bluetooth could work in transmitter mode! This means that you can stream music from your receiver to the bluetooth speaker or headphones!
Few negative points:
1) First and the biggest one - this receiver is not as powerful as many would like. First thing I do when I consider a new receiver - I flip it around and look at the power supply rating, this receiver states 240W. Let's assume 30W of power is needed for receiver itself and pre-amp, which leaves just 30W of power available per channel if all channels are driven. That is not enough if you have big tower speakers, however if you only using bookshelf speakers in the small room - it could work for you. User manual does not list power rating for 8Ohm speakers, only figure you see is for 6Ohm 2 channels driven at 0.09% THD and receiver would supply 100W per channel. But where are the figures for 8Ohm? This is not unique to Sony, most of the receiver manufacturers tend to over inflate power ratings. Ideally I would like to see power with 0.09% THD all channels driven into 8Ohm.
2) 4Ohm speakers won't work with this model
3) If you have a turntable - you will need to use it's own phono pre-amp or external phono pre-amp, this receiver does NOT have an internal PHONO pre-amp.
4) Manual EQ settings are almost non-existent - you get 2 sliders: Bass and Treble, no actual frequency bands. No EQ settings for the subwoofer channel at all.
5) Receiver is a little sluggish to react to it's own remote, there is a noticeable delay between button press and reaction.
6) No pre-amp outputs for the main channels, only for zone 2 and subwoofer
7) Included remote is fairly simple and central arrow keys seem to rattle.
Overall: this Receiver would work great if you use it with small bookshelf speakers and you like things to get setup automatically for you. However advanced users may want to look at the different model.

Sorry about the confusion, what I meant to say - the receiver is great if you just getting into Home Theater, but it lacks advanced features. Talking about my friends - I would recommend them a different model because I would be able to help them further with the system configuration, therefore advanced model would work better.

it has an ability to select different maps (for different levels) so I would say yes!

The only purifying fan to clean a whole room properly*. We design our purifying fans to go beyond test chamber conditions and focus on real home conditions – this is more than just having an efficient filter.*Dyson engineers and research concluded that to clean an entire room properly, you need to sense pollution events automatically; capture ultrafine pollutants; and project cleaner air around the room using Air Multiplier technology. Only the Dyson purifying fan is designed and tested to do all of this.**Dyson technology helps create a cleaner, healthier home - Our vacuums and purifiers are scientifically proven to capture particles as small as allergens and bacteria.

How often do you need to replace filters

Machine has indicators of filter life, mine still show 100% (separate indicator for fiberglass and carbon filters). I guess it really depends how often it runs and how much contaminants it removed.

Ask Alexa to turn on the lights and music with this ecobee Switch+ smart switch. Its built-in speaker lets you access Amazon Alexa with voice commands, and it automatically turns off a light bulb at sunrise or when no one’s in the room. Control this ecobee Switch+ smart switch remotely from your iOS or Android device.

Do you need to have certain ights in your home for this switch to be compatible? For example, Phillips Hue LED lights or will it work with a regular floodlight or GE incandescent bulb? Lastly- How many lights can one switch control?

This switch can control up to 600W incandescent or 150W LED/CFG of regular lights wired to the switch directly. You can also use Alexa integrated in this switch to control any number of other smart lights that are Alexa compatible (Hue, LiFX, etc)

Nest Protect reliably detects and alerts you to the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide in your home. The alarm speaks to you in a calm, clear, human voice, telling you the location of the danger. It also provides smartphone alerts and battery status updates to help protect your home. This hardwired version is suitable for homes with existing hardwired smoke or CO detectors.

Will it connect to a Samsung Smart Hub, plus possibly the Samsung ADT Security system? I had the orginal Lowes IRIS Security System, but now considering getting a Samsung Smart Hub since it does work with my RING Video Doorbell.

If samsung hub works with nest cameras - yes, Nest Hello would show up as a regular Nest Camera.

Nest Doorbell (Wired) lets you know who’s there, so you never miss a thing. It replaces your existing wired doorbell and delivers HD video and bright, crisp images, even at night. It’s designed to show you everything at your doorstep — people head to toe or packages on the ground. And with 24/7 streaming, you can check in anytime. Or go back and look at a 3-hour snapshot history to see what happened.*

Does this have simultaneous 2-way audio, or do you have to press a button to talk? I have the August doorbell and you have to push to talk and it works terribly.

Yes, simultaneous 2 way audio, no buttons to hold
