Nail buffer

This is easy to use. It's described as multicolored, but it's really just shades of gray and white, as you can see from the product pictures, but color is not an important feature. It definitely works. It's a two pack of identical buffers with each side labeled and numbered in the order of the steps. There aren't any directions other than that, not that they are needed; just mentioning in case you wonder if they might be missing. It works great. I filed and buffed and then shined each fingernail and they look noticeably better than before. They are very even and shinier than usual. I had no problems with the item at all.and will keep using it. It's small enough to keep in my purse. And I have another when the first one wears out.

Fast and easy to use

This Chromebook is a 2-in-1 laptop with a touchscreen that performed beautifully for my needs. This model takes the best Chromebook features and adds to it, making this a great choice for whatever your preference, school, work or just for fun. For a student, this is more than what most would need, but would hold up to a lot of use. Because it’s Google based, it allows the use of all of those features, such as apps through Google Play, the Chrome browser, Google Drive, and the cloud for storage and retrieval of files. It’s also web based, with the speed with that. So many of the features of this device are for speed—the Wifi is lightning fast, even when I moved to other rooms there was no diminishing of connectivity. Most Chromebooks I looked at have 4 GB of RAM; this one has 8 GB. The processor and SSD also are part of the fast response to multitasking with ease. The SSD is only 128 GB but unlike with other OS, it’s not filled up with other programs and files. The SSDs tend to run smaller than regular hard drives because they sacrifice some storage for speed in loading and running programs, while accessing files stored online for use across devices.

It looks sleek from the outside, white with silver accents. This is a full sized device—15.6 inches, just over 4 pounds. Solidly built, it seems like it will hold up well over time. There is no optical drive, which helps to keep it thinner and lighter than it might be otherwise. The hinge prevents it from lying flat, allowing air to circulate underneath and keep it a little cooler. These hinges also allow the keyboard to be flipped back, using it as a stand or all the way back like a tablet, although this is larger than any tablet. I really like that option, having a nice large touchscreen to work from, and the capability of going right back to using the keyboard when I need it again. This is my first time using a glass TouchPad and I really liked the way it felt and responded. It's sensitive enough without being too sensitive. I've had to adjust the settings on most touchpads and this one didn't need that step starting out. Set up was a breeze, a few minutes. It was really just signing into my Google account. And it's also connected to my phone- I like that. I also enjoyed trying out some games that I would play on my phone or tablet. I can't wait to try a few new ones that I haven't yet because my phone screen is a little small for that. I connected it to my printer and scanner without issue, as well as transferring pictures from another device.
Portability is an important feature while also performing a wide range of tasks quickly. I need something reliable and hadn't tried a Chromebook yet. I haven't really seen them as work computers, but there are more choices now that so many people have been doing work and school from home. I found that it runs programs seamlessly, allowing me to move from one app or window to the next and back without hesitation. After having tried this and then going back to my other laptop, I find that I prefer the Chromebook. It is larger than what I’ve been using and handles tasks faster. Currently my main focus is using this for working from home. I found this powerful enough for what I'm doing, which is mostly web based, making a Chromebook an ideal option for completing tasks. I didn't realize that Chromebooks don't need anti-virus software. The advantage to that is not having to constantly update that software while remaining secure from threats. I definitely recommend this Chromebook. It's attractive and functions better than expected, especially for working from home.

The intelligent choice for hair removal
on May 9, 2021
Posted by: MrAnubisKitty
from High Point, NC, USA
The Smoothskin Pure IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is designed to break the hair growth cycle, and reduce or eliminate the need for other types of hair removal. Keep in mind this is a long term investment. I know I can continue to buy shavers, tweezers, waxing supplies, etc. and those are less expensive, but the costs add up over years of use. I think this item is comparably priced for this type of product, especially considering the quality of the product and the end results. I was impressed with how easy it is to use and the difference it made in reducing hair growth. It’s lightweight too; I expected it to be heavier, but it does the job without tiring out my hand, even in the early stages.
The Smoothskin system consists of what the manual calls the handset and base unit, connected by a sturdy cable, and the power cable, which plugs into the base unit on one end and into an outlet on the other. There is also a small user guide. I like that it explains how it works, and the progression of results. There are also a lot of precautionary statements that are important; this product won’t work for everyone, but will work for most users and most areas selected for hair removal. Some users might experience side effects; I didn’t have any issues with using mine and didn’t have a reaction to it either. The guide advises you to test a small area before moving on to a larger area. This is common with all sorts of products to avoid adverse reactions. I appreciated the attention to detail here, since it is my first time using something like this. I’ve always wanted to try one, and I am glad I went with this product.
This is a very effective device- it brings the salon experience home. It’s quicker than I expected, I thought it would take longer for each before I got started. You do have to shave well first. The IPL works under the skin on the lower part of the hair so that it won’t keep growing out. This is a ‘smart’ or ‘intelligent’ device because it senses skin tone and adjusts the intenstiy of the pulse accordingly. I don’t know how to prove it does that, but it works on slightly different skin tones (body parts are not all the same shade!) and with different hair. It worked really on all the body parts I tried it on, although I did have to go over some areas. It’s possible to miss very small areas, so I did find I would have to pay very close attention to making sure I’m getting the whole area with each weekly treatment. It has 3 modes, depending on user preference. I mostly used gentle and then speed as I got used to it. There’s kind of an adjustment, at least with me, to find the best way to use it. It’s not hard though; it walks you through it and there’s a website for the product if you need more info. I don’t have really coarse hair, and I’m fairly light in skin tone; I have seen such a change over time as I have continued to use this. I feel like I’m doing less work on hair removal and maintenance, and not stressing about it any more.
After 6 weeks, I am very pleased with the results. I do wish it came with a pouch or case of some kind, but that’s more of an observation not a complaint. I don’t have any complaints, as it did what I expected it to and anticipate it will continue if I keep using it. I’m glad I have a better option to the constant battle with hair where I don’t want it, without having to go somewhere and pay to have it done for me; not having to buy any other products is also a plus. I recommend this device for taking care of hair removal at home.

Reliable rechargable shaver
on March 12, 2021
Posted by: MrAnubisKitty

The Wahl Rechargable foil shaver is a reasonably priced product that works well. It has two foils that are smooth and hypoallergenic so they won’t irritate the skin. It says ‘bump free’ and that is accurate. I did not have any skin irritation or bumps at any point in shaving. The results are a pretty close shave, comparable to other shavers I’ve used. A manual razor gives a closer shave, but this does a good job. Because it’s rechargeable, you can use it without plugging it in, and get multiple uses before using the included power cord to recharge it again. It has a pretty good battery life. It fits well in my hand and is very easy to use. I tried it right out of the box, and it didn’t work nearly as well as after it was fully charged, so it’s noticeable when the battery life is low- you’ll want to recharge before it completely runs down. Fully charged and for a couple of uses after that, it works really well.
It’s a hassle-free product, just use the power button on front to turn on and off, and the button on the side for removing the cover to clean the blades and foils. To get the best shave, use both foils at an angle (they are not the same height) and don’t press hard or the foils could get damaged. I use foil shavers regularly as they are very easy to use and a quick way to shave. The user guide also gives some tips for getting a better shave, which is useful if you are new to this kind of shaver. It has some accessories for taking care of this product and a pouch to short it in. It’s not quiet but the sound and vibration are typical for shavers/razors. It also includes a 3 year warranty.
My only issue with this product was the pop-up trimmer. I like having this even though I don’t use it every time. I didn’t like the one on this shaver. I had some trouble pushing it up. The guide says it ‘telescopes up and away’ and it kind of does that. It is far enough from the foil part to use properly by itself for longer hair or detailing/shaping an area, such as a beard or mustache. It does work. I had difficulty getting it to go all the way up; it might loosen a little over time and be easier to push up and back down, but it was a little awkward to manage. It does click into place, preventing it from shifting while the shaver is on. On mine, it never goes completely flat again, the way it was before I used the trimmer. It could just be mine but it really seemed like it’s the way this part is designed. It only sticks up a small amount, 1mm or so; it bothered me that it wouldn’t quite go back in place. I have another shaver and that one never had these issues, so I will use the trimmer on that one instead. I do want the point out that the closeness of the shave was comparable, and the product works as advertised in the description on the website and on the box.
Overall it’s a very good shaver and I do recommend it, but the pop-up trimmer was a bit of a disappointment. I selected this product because it had that feature, and so this was an issue for me. If the trimmer is important to you, you might not like this one, or maybe it’ll work better for other users than it did for me. It feels like it’ll work well for a while. The main part, with the titanium foils work very well, and cleaning it is also easy. It has a 60 day money back guarantee, and a 3 year limited warranty. I’d say this is a 4 to 4.5 star product, reliable and convenient.

Fast and compact

The Epson WorkForce scanner is a powerhouse of a scanner. It’s lightweight and doesn’t take up a lot of space; it’s about as tall as it is front to back, so it fits nicely into my home work space. It is easy to use, but holds up to a lot of use—definitely one that can keep up with all the work many of us are doing from home. It would work well for personal or school use as well. I’ve used scanners that are much slower, and this was so easy to set up and start using in minutes. The quick setup guide shows you how to get the scanner ready and connected, including the website to go to based on the model of the scanner; then the download is so fast that I was able to scan in a short time. It did tell me it needed to update the software after I scanned the first document, but that did not take long either. The most impressive feature is its speed, with versatility a close second. It came with the two part power cable and USB cable, along with user guides in English and three other languages, including Spanish and French.
After scanning documents, there are options to save them as PDFs, but also other formats, such as Word and Excel, allowing users to decide on the format best for each document. It scans documents and loads them onto the screen very quickly, even when there are a lot of pages, up to 50 at about 35 per minute. Part of the speed is the USB 3.0 cable that connects to the computer. For some this cable may be too short, only a few feet. I would have liked a six foot cable, which I might add later; for now it connects well enough, but the short length does limit placement of it in regards to the computer it’s connected to. You can even scan two sided documents and in color. I like that it can accommodate different sizes of paper, not just letter or legal, but smaller papers and business cards too. The files on screen are picture perfect with options to scan to the cloud, giving even more options for a wide range of users. It’s not a cheap scanner, but this one seems like it will last a long time, and it meets all of my needs for classes and home use. I actually like it better having a printer and scanner separately, since my space is fairly limited, and this performs impressively. I definitely recommend this if you need to scan quickly and organize your files in different locations and formats. It will allow you to reduce the amount of paper kept on hand, converting them to digital files. That’s what I like best, keeping less paper in files and boxes, without taking much time to scan and save.

Improved air quality
on January 16, 2021
Posted by: MrAnubisKitty

The Blueair HealthProtect air purifier removes particles from the home environment quietly and efficiently. It takes very little to get started. It comes fully assembled, and includes a hefty little user manual, over 120 pages, although it's in English through page 27. The rest looks like the same info in several (four) other languages. The quick start guide gets you going in just a couple of steps, basically plug the machine in and download the app, scanning the QR code or manually going to the appropriate app store on your phone. What the Quick Start guide omits is the need to remove two small blue foam pieces under the two 'pre-filters' on either side and the plastic wrapped around the main filter prior to plugging the purifier in or turning it on. That's in the user manual, so users should review the manual first. The app is necessary for this model as it needs to connect to WIFI to work properly. The app will do that for you, but you will need to put your internet password into the app. The app does more than just connecting the purifier to the internet, and users can explore the different features and information.
After that, you can set the machine to Auto and leave it there. You can also change some of the settings too. This model is meant for a large space, up to 418 square feet. Check to make sure you select the correct model for the space you’re using it in, as this would likely be too big for a bedroom. I have it in the living room, but this and the dining room are one big space. It seemed to react to changes in the environment; when a bedroom was left open it could sense the increase in pollutants in the area and I saw the changes on the display, as I stayed in the room for a while after turning it on. This can remove a wide range of things from the air, allergens like dust and pet dander, odors from smoke, pets, etc. and other pollutants like germs. It does not claim to aid with removing the COVID19 virus, but I believe this virus is too new for any device to make that claim and be able to stand by it. The description does mention other viruses and bacteria such as H1N1 and E. Coli. There is a GermShield setting that Blueair recommends leaving on, as it detects changes related to this too. It also can be used with Alexa, although I don’t currently have a device in that room to test it with at this time; that is something I will try out later. It does not have a remote, but it really doesn’t need one, since it has the app; using an Alexa capable device would add some voice control, although I don’t know if that would just be to connect a smart plug or if there are other controls.
The indicators on top show that the purifier is on, if Auto is on, Airflow (fan) speed, GermShield on/off, and that it is connected to Wifi (or if there is a problem with the connection). Above this, is more specific info, which you can scroll through by using the arrows on either side. It shows temperature, humidity, and information on particles in the air, PM1, PM2.5, and PM10, filter status (will decrease as the life of the filter decreases, eventually indicating replacement is necessary), and an indicator for levels of gases in the room. You can see the colors at the bottom of the display change as the air quality improves, from red and orange when the air has a lot of pollutants in it to green and blue, which is what you want to see, as that means the air quality has changed to good or excellent. The app gives a lot more information so users can understand more about what the different indicators mean, and there is also a website if you really want to learn more about the purifier and how they work.
I noticed a difference in the room rather quickly, as the air moving cooled the temperature down around it. I adjusted to fan to a lower setting since it was a cold day. This slowed the time to purify the area but made it more comfortable in the room. I like that I can adjust different settings, but that I can also put it on Auto and let it do all the work. The next day was warmer in the afternoon, and I turned up the fan. It seems to work a little faster with the fan on, although it works fine either way. I’m using it at home, so I don’t need to know all the little details, although I found it interesting how technical it is in letting you know the different ways it improves the air quality. With this being such a bad time for colds and viruses, plus year-round allergies, I feel confident that this makes our home safer for staying healthy. Allergies are something everyone in my household deals with, particularly as they affect the sinuses and breathing. That’s something that a good air purifier can help with, and this does a great job at maintaining better air quality indoors. Blueair recommends keeping doors and windows closed, which is something we tend to do anyway, and this will make it easier to keep as much out of the air as possible. I could also notice a difference throughout the first day as it worked on removing odors quickly, particularly smoke. It’s not very heavy, but can be moved by holding the handle and leaning it back on the two wheels to relocate it as needed. It is tall but not very wide, and doesn't take up too much space. This is a really well made and efficient device, especially in a time when air quality is such an issue, and a purifier like this can improve our health in several ways. I feel like this will help my family to breathe easier and stay healthier.

Great vacuum
on January 11, 2021

This vacuum from Bissell works great and the purchase supports the Bissell Pet Foundation that saves pets who need homes. This is a vacuum designed with pet owners in mind, and has features specifically for cleaning up after your pets more efficiently. It has six parts- the main part or pod, the handle, the hose, the base or foot, and two tools which can attach to the wand or hose. One tool combines the traditional crevice and brush tools into one piece and the other is the Pet TurboEraser tool. That's my favorite part of the vacuum. I found it more comfortable to use with just the hose (instead of at the end of the wand) and it was so easy to vacuum all the surfaces of my couch. Since my cat has decided to sleep on the couch more, I have pet hair on the back and seats, as well as on the front where she rubs against it. This attachment allowed me the flexibility to reach them all and did an amazing job of removing the pet hair. I will be using this regularly.
The Lift-Off Technology is the ability to push a button to lift the pod off the base of the vacuum and carry it with you around the room. With this in one hand, you can use either the wand or hose to get other places, furniture, crevices, and corners. This increases the versatility of this machine so it has portability and power. The cord is attached to the pod, there's no cordless option, but you don't need to recharge anything either. And the cord is a good length.
It also works great fully assembled, maneuvering around furniture with ease and sucking up all the dust, hair and other debris from the carpet. Another feature is the option to adjust for different floor types, even uncarpeted surfaces like hardwood floors. The brushes are off when switched to this, but on when it's back on carpet. Best of all the brushes don't get all tangled up with hair, which is a common problem with vacuums. I'm looking forward to not having that issue as I continue to use this. It has a HEPA filter for removing dust and other allergens. The pod has a set of filters at the top of the canister that are washable and another in the bottom of the pod, the post-motor filter, which is not washable, but is replaceable after six months. The canister can also be washed out too. There are no bags, just the canister that you can push a button to empty over the trash. This vacuum is fairly lightweight and very easy to use and maintain. Plus the purchase supports a great cause (saving pets). I recommend this vacuum even if you don't have pets but especially if you do.

Impressive Anker Soundcore speaker
on December 15, 2020
Posted by: MrAnubisKitty
from High Point, NC, USA
The Anker Soundcore Rave Neo is a 50W speaker that connects wirelessly via Bluetooth, but also can be connected directly to devices as well using cables—not included, except for the charging cable for the speaker. It’s waterproof, IPX7, so it can safely be used by the pool or other water, or even when raining, and it’ll be fine. I wasn’t expecting the size of this speaker, which is about the size of a small space heater (11 inches in height) and about that weight (7.7lbs). When I think of portable, I think of something about a third that size, but this isn’t something you hang on your belt or put in a purse. It is portable in the sense that it has a built-in handle for carrying it easily along with you and it’s not too big or heavy at all. It seems really well-made and like it will last a while. There’s a place on the back where you can remove a cover for additional ports, including the USB-C charging port for the speaker, but I think that would need to be covered to remain truly waterproof, I didn’t see anything that specifically mentions this.
There are buttons on top so you can manually operate the speaker, but there is a Soundcore app for additional features. One of these is PartyCast; you can switch speakers with the app, but also connect compatible speakers, like the Flare 2 (which is a good option if you want something smaller). You can link up to 100 speakers through one device. Other features through the app are the different light patterns and the EQ presets, or customizing EQ for your preference. You do have to set up a profile and log into the app to save your customization, but that’s pretty standard with apps anyway. The Bass Boost enhances the sound, especially when outside and it sounds the best when this is active.
It has great battery life. I was able to use it for days without recharging it. The lighting is a really cool affect as it follows along with the music and can be changed to other patterns. I can’t wait to try it with another speaker that can match the lights, especially outside at night. This will be a great speaker for parties or other get togethers, and I’m really impressed by the sound quality. The sound is rich and detailed, especially for a portable speaker. I also like that it matches my other speakers. There isn’t anything that I didn’t like about this speaker; even the price is reasonable for the quality of this speaker.

The Anker PowerCore Play 6K is a portable charger designed for mobile gaming. It will charge your phone well even if you're not actually on it, with a 6700mAh capacity. However, the way the phone sits and the shape make it clear it's meant for games where you hold the phone sideways.
It's a reliable charger with either a 15W output for the USB-C port or 12W output for the USB-A port. Not a huge difference for the average user. It's enough to keep your phone going, charging it faster than the battery will go down while you are using the phone. It comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable, which can be used to charge your phone if that's what your phone uses, and flipped around to recharge the PowrCore charger. For me, that's the only cord I need, but if you have an iPhone, you'll need a different one to connect your phone, but it is compatible with those phones too. The issue would be the size of your phone.
When you turn the phone sideways, you can slide it open a little to fit your phone in and let go so it'll grip the phone in place. My phone fit both in the case and without. The inner part is soft to the touch and keeps the phone from slipping. It fits phones up to 6.5 inches. That's including the case, and a bulky one ir a wallet case wouldn't fit. Mine has a compartment for cards in the back, but still fit well. The box has markings on it which are in mm, but you can hold your phone up to the back of the box to measure your phone. This way you can tell before you open it if it will fit.
The charger is a matte black with some shiny black accents. It feels very comfortable in my hands, not heavy or bulky. It reminds me of the way nintendo changed their handhelds from the way the 3DS/DS is just rectangular and the Switch has grips for greater comfort, especially when playing for hours. It's a controller-shaped charger. After plugging the phone in and pressing the button on the left side, it starts charging and the fan turns on. The fan can be turned off, but it keeps the phone and the charger from getting too hot. That is probably the best feature to me- keeping my phone cooler when I'm on it for a long time.
If your game isn't one that is sideways on the phone, the ergonomic shape would be a little less useful, but it would still work for charging and cooling the phone. The battery life is great too. The box says 30+ hours, meaning you can use it for multiple sessions before recharging the PowerCore. This Anker device feels solid, like it'll last a long time. The only small part is the stand that can pop out in the back, but it doesn't feel like it will break easily. I'm happy with this charger.

This Belkin car charger performs very well. It plugs into the port in the car, and then is ready to use. It comes with one cable that's a little over 3 feet long, which is a good length for a car charger; some are too short and this seems a little longer than the average, although it can be switched out for a different length. It is a USB-C cable, like for Samsung devices- although I'm seeing more devices come out with this, such as wireless headphones. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you'll need a different cable.
It has two charging ports, so you'll also need your own cable for the second device. I like being able to charge two at the same time, especially on busy days or while driving longer than usual. (The longer the drive, the more important this is.) This charger does just what it should, charging two devices simultaneously. The main benefit of this particular one is that it can provide 12W per device. Most car chargers have a lot less power, so things charge a lot slower. Also, I've used chargers that charge one device fast, but can't keep the power flowing for additional devices. This charger didn't have any trouble keeping the power consistent. I recommend this charger, especially if you need to charge things quickly.
