Cute for kids, but too expensive for a toy
on May 1, 2019

I love Canon cameras - and I used to love the Polaroid Instant photos when I was a kid. So, the combination of these two was very appealing to me. Well, not to me - but to my kid.
It’s kind of big for kids hands, so it’s good that there is a wrist strap. There’s an SD card slot, so you can keep a digital image with the physical image. Mine was ‘mint green’ - but that’s just the front; the back was white and it looks like it could be a dirt magnet.
The images were just not great. Well, if this was a $30 camera then it’d be on par - but not for one retailing around $100.
Some images had lines, others were fine (see attached images). We fell victim to the ‘duplicate photo’ press and were stuck with a wasted dupe photo (also in included images). I got this as a product to review, so I found it strange that it only came with the 10 sheets (default in the box) to write a review with. Normally, we get extra accessories to ensure we get a lengthy review session, but 10 photos went *poof* pretty fast.
There is a Blackberry-esque selfie mirror on the front - which does the job.
When you take a photo, shortly after you hear the rollers start and you want to turn the camera over. Well, for both my wife and I, we ended up hitting the shutter button at that time, firing off another photo, which in-turn kicks off another print job. Mine mis-shoot was of the ceiling, my wife’s was of the sky - so, pretty consistent: up (yes, in the attached photos too!). That really needs to be fixed - make the button more rigid, or have it print out a different side. Something.
I did go and buy a 20-pack of photo sheets, running around $0.50 a photo - which is pretty pricey for a gimmick-type little camera. So, there's $120 right out the gate - excluding memory cards.
Overall, this is a no-go for adults.
For kids, it’s a ‘cute to have’ - but the price tag puts it out of that type of audience’s budget. It also needs to include more sheets.

Too buggy at launch time.

Before receiving this style, I used the Alexa version for a number of months. I used the FM transmitter part so I didn’t need any wires and everything was great because my car is old & doesn’t have Bluetooth.
But, since I’m really not an Alexa user, I was really anticipating the Google Assistant version of their Roav VIVA.
Here’s my comparison-style review.
Overall as of 5/1/19, it’s not ready for prime-time. And since we can’t update reviews on Best Buy’s site, let’s hope it gets better with updates - but it’s a risk for you people reading this review.
Pro:
Built for Google / Android users like me. Instead of screaming “HEY GOOGLE” and hoping the phone picks it up, I can hit a button. The Alexa Roav didn’t know how to “play X song on Google Play Music” - forcing me to have to touch the phone, etc. Now, I can request a song/artist and it fires off through the Google Play app, instead of Pandora or something I don’t use or pay for. Plus, now I can “skip” songs without having to manipulate the phone.
Con:
It’s SLOW to respond to commands. From command to execution can be 10 seconds. I know better and disable WiFi when I’m driving so ‘xfinity’ doesn’t attempt to steal my connection but that doesn’t even help.
THEY REMOVED THE FM TRANSMITTER. Insanity. During setup, it tells you to go buy a cassette adapter or external FM transmitter if you don’t have AUX port. A HUGE bonus for the Alexa version was just that, the FM Transmitter, so I didn’t have to run a cable to the AUX port under my armrest. They took a great feature of the Alexa version and stripped it out. Just dumb.
The audio has ZERO bass. Again, I came from an Anker Roav VIVA - ‘ghetto’ FM Transmitted audio mind you - which smokes this. I even paused the song, removed the Google Roav, put in the Alexa Roav let it boot up, resumed the song and and bassy tunes were back rattling the bottles in my door cup holders.
To be fair, I did Tweet to @AnkerOfficial to get some help - but didn’t hear back after four days. I adjusted the AUX cable too, but still no change.
The Aux Port is in a crummy place - the top, as you have USB ports out the side. It’s a tight squeeze in my Outback’s under-stereo cubby and now I have to accommodate another wire.
It doesn’t pick up the ‘wake word’ very easily, I find myself holding the button for a second to activate it. Definitely a step back from the Alexa version. A simple tap of the button woke Alexa; the Google version reads the time & notifications on the same push. A longer push wakes the assistant - dumb.
Asking it to launch something on iHeartRadio actually opens the iHeart app on the phone that I don’t have an account logged into - causing it to not start playing, whereas the Alexa one uses the Alexa Account Link mechanism that doesn’t launch an App, yet still fires up the station.
Neutral:
The claim is that noise cancellation *requires* the AUX port be used, so - if you wanted to pair it to your car’s Bluetooth, you still need the AUX cable. Fortunately & unfortunately, my car doesn’t have Bluetooth, which is why these devices are clutch for me. I really don’t know how well that worked.
It comes with an AUX cable - on end is at a 90 degree angle & the other is a traditional straight-connect.

An SSD with ROOM!
on April 17, 2019
Posted by: nhtechie
from Nashua, NH
Even as a techie, seeing a 2TB SSD arrive on my doorstep made me giggle. I used this drive in a Dell Precision T5600. This machine holds my lifeblood of data: websites and virtual storage.
We can all run into issues with flash from time to time, so I get it - but there were no issues with this “drive” for me.
From a SATA connection at the system board to a PERC controller, no issues identifying the drive or usability.
I’m a Linux guy, so I don’t do pretty GUI benchmark tests, I am a real-life enterprise user in the home. For my real job, I deal with storage and I understand latency - and how file size impacts overall speeds (throughput) or operations (IOPS). Bigger files, it gets there faster. Tons of smaller files, it needs to keep restarting on each file & takes longer.
This drive, like any data storage device performs based on the type of workload you throw at it. Are all of the reads close together? Then, it’ll perform well, just like any other device, spinning or not, a sequential data need allows everything to be faster.
Random reads/writes are the speed bump of all workflows.
Will you, the consumer, notice it? Do you even think about where the data sits? Nope. And you don’t need to. You’ll be just fine and won’t have any complaints (well, unless the price is over the top).
I ran tests when a system had logical volume management vs traditional disk with a traditional wiping filesystem and didn’t find much, if any, of a difference between the layers of overhead when using this device.
Read and write speeds with ‘dd’ - and ensuring cache is out of the picture with sysctl (because 3.4 GB/s is insane and unrealistic) got me ~ 380MB/s writes & ~520MB/s on reads -- again, sequential (in order - no searching to find the data).
As this is MUCH faster than spinning media, it’s great. I’m picky and I have 0 complaints with this disk.
All in all and in my limited time with it, it’s proven to be a quick, stable flash device (SSD) and would GLADLY pick up another one for traditional OS/file storage.

Solid no-frills charger
on March 25, 2019
Posted by: nhtechie
from Nashua, NH
For the past, 6 or so years, I’ve only purchased phones with wireless charging capabilities. From Anker, to Tylt, Samsung and now Belkin.
The only place I run a fast charger is at work, which means I’m used to a ‘standard’ charge at home. This is one of those ‘standard’ chargers.
This charger came with a sturdy cable and wall adapter. Many of the ‘so cheap/best ever’ chargers you’ll see on Amazon don’t include the wall adapter. Unlike those, you don’t have to read any fine print here, it's all included.
The charger has a hefty footprint, about 4in in circumference which gives you a good chance on landing your phone on the charger on the first shot.
I’ve used this with the Google Nexus 5 & 6, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+; all of those phones had various thicknesses of cases on them. In the time I've had it, I've never had a blip of inconsistent charge; I plop the phone on the charger and rarely have to adjust - well, unless I’ve just really gone off-center.
I don’t have any Otterbox / thick protective cases, so I can’t tell you if it works through those.
Again, this isn’t a fast charger - you won’t see “fast charging” pop up on your screen so if you’re in a rush for a charge, plug in a cable.
For a traditional wireless charger, 5 Stars. For a "fast" charger, this isn't the product for you.

Solid router, supporting Velop mesh nodes
on February 12, 2019
Posted by: nhtechie
from Nashua, NH
I’ve been a Velop Mesh system user for two years now. While it seems to do what’s expected, throughput will DROP over time - to the point where everything needs a reboot. Nodes will also go “red” and drop off from time to time. I’ve also had to hard-reset the system to defaults 4x in those 2 years.
When I received this LINKSYS MR8300 / AC2200 to review, I’ve had quite a bit of experience setting up the Linksys Mesh systems. I’m a techie - I’ve beta tested networking equipment from various vendors, so I try to play ‘newbie’ when setting up systems for product reviews … because that’s what most people will likely be.
Without wanting to cause too much disruption to the network in the house, I gave myself a goal of 10 minutes of downtime to get the new router in place & servicing devices; I promised the family that I’d roll-back to the Velop if it was going to take more than 10 minutes.
I started off by using the App and setting up the new router in a ‘faux offline’ state --- no true public-addressed Internet connection, but rather connectivity via my network switch. I gave it a test SSID and passphrase, and kept the default LAN IPs.
I shut off my old Velop system, rebooted the Modem and I was able to make a cut-over on the ‘test’ SSID. I then adjusted the LAN IPs to my existing scheme, as well as starting / ending DHCP addresses so it wouldn’t wreak havoc with the addressing scheme I currently use when I activated the house’s SSID.
After a few reboots, I changed the ‘fake’ SSID over to the real wireless name + passphrase and got the house online in 7 minutes. Very cool.
Next, I added a WHW0101 wall-plugged node (box seen in one photo) via the app, one floor up and across the floor. That process alone was more than 10 minutes, however no downtime to the network that I noticed.
Lastly, I added a traditional Velop node (the white pillar in the other photo), one more floor up and across the house - making a diagonal line of Mesh Nodes across the house. Another 10 minutes for the Velop node, but this time - a firmware update became available and I applied it … because, why not, right? That did cause a hiccup in service while the system rebooted.
As much as they want you to use the App to control this setup, you just can’t do it all. Going to the IP address of the router will get you to a login screen, where you use the password you chose during setup.
Note: Things like Parental Control won’t work until you disable IPv6 in the LAN settings. Once you turn it off, you can block websites for devices, or apply previously blocked websites to additional devices. I was able to do this across 3x systems: 2x Apple devices and 1x Chromebook.
Port Forwarding (if you run your own website, VPN, RDP, etc) works as expected.
The one thing that I caution you on, is the “Speedtest” functionality - either on the admin web interface, or via the Linksys App. Both means of accessing this feature seem to be pretty bad - and they literally lock up my Motorola Surfboard Modem.
It’s so bad, that I need to power-cycle everything to get back online.
The symptom? Well, the Router goes “red” on top, as do all of the Nodes installed throughout the house.
At that point, I can reboot the Linksys pieces all I want, but it’s rebooting the modem that gets everything back online.
At this point, only using it for 2 weeks, speeds have been solid and I haven’t had to reboot any of the components.
I’ll go with 4 stars because speedtest crashes my network. Every. Time.

Low-light / night quality challenges
on January 7, 2019
Posted by: nhtechie
from Nashua, NH
The Cam is a decent size and does NOT come with a suction cup, which I find very nice. It uses 3M double-sided adhesive and a bracket to attach to the windshield.
At first I was a bit shocked that there wasn’t a suction cup mount, but with New England’s hot & cold temps, I’m a bit relieved since I’ve had many things fall from my windshield.
Setup is easy. Set your plate# (or disable the plate from being printed on the video, which I do), set the date/time/daylight savings, looping (3-5-10mins), quality (it defaults to 1080p) and a few other items. Installation was a snap with the aforementioned bracket and adhesive.
I ran it for the better part of 3 weeks and I have to say … the quality is … mediocre. I say that because … for a one-dollar-under-$100 camera, I’ve personally seen a $65 1080p cam blow the quality of this camera out of the water.
Low-light is awful; it really isn’t good. I mean dusk, sunset time. Just not good. You can't make out shopping plaza signs going 30mph (see attached image).
I have even tried increasing the exposure, but to no avail.
There’s about a 10-foot distance where you can see license plates if you’re completely stopped and if you try to grab a still from a video, you’re out of luck (see my attached images). Also, there is some serious pixelation at dusk (see attached images again). I’m using the supplied microSD card, so it’s not likely related to that.
The quality was so bad, that I reached out to support. After some impersonal messages and sending them images and a video, they said that the quality is non-standard and I got an RMA for a replacement camera. The process was quick, they held some money (to be refunded upon return of the original camera) and it was here in no-time flat.
Unfortunately, the quality of the videos on the new camera were just as poor.
I’m thinking that this is just a lower-end camera where image quality isn’t a focus -- it’s just to have ‘proof’ during an incident.
Sound:
Fine. It gets the radio and my awful singing; it also gets kids talking in the back seat, albeit on a much lower level.
No GPS without external transmitter (an extra cost ~ $35). Though, for a $99 cam, that’s to be expected though. I can’t speak to the accuracy or use, as I didn’t purchase it.
Overall, a ‘pro’ is the price. Under $100 isn’t bad for some security while driving in this crazy world - but only to prove/disprove fault, you’ll never be able to prove details with this camera.
So, if you’re looking for some insurance “insurance” - pick it up. If you’re looking to have really nice video to go back and review, skip it and find one with better quality.

Great for non-tech vehicles
on December 31, 2018
Posted by: nhtechie
from Nashua, NH
Back story -- My car doesn’t have Bluetooth natively, so I have a Bluetooth transmitter in it. The Bluetooth adapter/ system allows me to stream music, however doesn’t support phone audio / calling - which stinks. When this product arrived, I was excited to see if this allows me to do hands-free calling.
The setup of the ROAV was so simple, that I completed it before I stopped to get coffee on my 7 minute commute. It quickly paired to my AUX-driven Bluetooth receiver/transmitter and was playing tunes immediately.
I found that, because it uses the app to pair to the Bluetooth transmitter, it can’t handle phone calls still.
Well, that was until I decided to interface with the stereo via the FM Transmitter function. I went into setup again & picked 107.5FM. Once that was done, my phone paired with the ROAV (making the Bluetooth Transmitter obsolete) and I cut the radio over to the appropriate station. Music is pretty nice. No static, decent bass and get this, hands-free calling works now! Fantastic!
Since it’s Alexa it will only play music via the providers it has - and NOT Google Play Music, which I use primarily. However, since it’s paired with Bluetooth, you can still play (but not via voice commands) music however you want, on whichever phone App you want to use, without issue.
I did have an issue with responsiveness of Alexa and non-completing of requests -- though a reboot of my phone took care of that. It only happened one time, so I won’t take any points away.
The only downside to this device is that the charging ports aren’t ‘fast charge’ compatible. So, I use the power port in my arm-rest + a fast-charge Anker adapter for quick charge, leaving the ROAV for Bluetooth audio & phone calls.
I recommend this product VERY highly!

Many limitations and nuances.
on December 18, 2018
Posted by: nhtechie
from Nashua, NH
I REALLY loved the idea of this; I even watched a few videos before it arrived from the company so I thought I was prepared for its use.
Setup was a breeze. The app installed without issue. The remote setup was simple and got pushed an update as soon as it connected to WiFi.
There are some things that you need to understand when using this remote. This can be configured two different ways: by default it acts as a traditional ‘universal’ remote, though it needs to contact your mobile App to fully add new devices. The other way is a ‘point-to-control’ type mode.
Traditional Remote Mode:
The remote is a bit cumbersome to use, let me explain. It’s a very small touch screen. To get from volume up/down to Menu Up/Down (for example), you have to swipe left or right. While that may not seem like a big deal, it can be. To go from TV to Receiver (for another example), you have to use the top of the small screen to swipe to the device you want to control. IF you accidentally tap the device at the top, it shuts that device off. If you have a TON of devices to control, like I do, you can get lost and miss the image.
When you add a device, it seems to "download" configuration specific to your device - but it doesn't. It downloads generic IR codes for that vendor and the buttons it gives you don't always (or for me, ever) line up. For example: Aux 1 on the remote, is "TV" -- and TV is Aux 10 (which my receiver doesn't have). You have to re-map the buttons which to me, defeats the purpose.
Now, if you want to use the ‘point to control’ mode - and thus saving yourself from having to swipe to select a device to control you have to install / hang the sensors around the room.
While that may not seem all that awful, it is. Each sensor MUST see the other *and* they all have to see the charging base. All 3 need to be installed even if it’s an 8x10 room because the remote seems to always be emitting IR in this mode - and uses 3x sensors to triangulate where it’s pointing.
Oh yeah, the charging base. It’s USB-C which is great, though it has to sit upright and I can only see it getting bumped and snapping off. I was hoping it was a magnetic charging base … maybe for the next version.
But before that mode works, you have to hold the remote in front of the device you want to control and ‘pair’ it with that spot in your room.
Point at the TV, the input on the screen switches to TV and you get a slight haptic vibration … pretty cool.
Well, it’s cool if you only have one thing in that general direction. If you have, say, a TV with a receiver below it, you can’t control them both because there is no height determination with the sensors, just general direction. To control your TV, you should position the remote off to the side of the room during remote location pairing and then remember that you have to control the TV pointing nowhere near the TV.
The remote should be placed on the charger every night. After 2 nights of it being off the charger, it dies and needs to be re-calibrated with the sensors (point the remote at the blinky light for every sensor and hit a button). I have never needed to charge a remote overnight and have had it die three times already … and have fallen back to my old remote + Google Home integration.
Lastly, there is no way to start/turn on SmartTV Apps -- not natively. While you CAN set up a routine to turn on TV, Receiver, change Input -- but it can’t launch, Netflix, for example. Yet. They say it's coming. The way around it is to “create a mapped button” from a remote that *can* launch Apps. Even then, it can’t be part of the routine, you have to hit the button afterwards.
I reached out to support with some general questions and they were responsive, so they have that going for them.
It does control my Hue lights without issue, though it always starts at "yellow" so if you want to solely lower the brightness, it changes it to yellow first and then lowers it. That's pretty annoying.
At this time and with these limitations, I can’t recommend this remote. I just can’t.

Too little control for reliable selfies
on December 4, 2018
Posted by: nhtechie
from Nashua, NH
A selfie drone.
Now THIS is what I’m looking for. Fly a drone around a bit and get some exposure to handling and snap a few cool images while I’m at it.
I did some digging before it arrived, watching some YouTube vids and installing the App to see what I was in store for. I was prepared for the 5 minute flight time and figured that's decent for something so small.
But ... this showed up just as the snow fell in NH -- so, bringing it outside wasn’t possible.
I plugged it in for an hour or so, until the red light went away.
The button to turn it on makes you think you're doing something wrong as there is no solid 'click' - but after a few seconds it started beeping loudly. I tried to connect the App something wasn't working.
What is going on here? Well, I installed AirSelfie, not AirSelfie2 … big mistake.
Removing the App and installing the new one was easy as you’d expect, but the screen went black when attempting to use the “Easy” controls; I had to reboot my Galaxy S8+ to get it working :(
I saw the recommendation to try it indoors & based on the videos I saw (shot outside), it should just sit there while I get a handle on “Beginner” mode. Nope.
A light toss up and SLAM right into the Ceiling (don't try it indoors unless you have ceilings over 8ft) … it shot to the right and then SLAM into my dining room wall. Not even 10 seconds and this thing has tumbled hard; now I’m annoyed right off the bat, put it back on the charger for another day.
Fast forward a week or so, we get out to a parking lot with an 18-wheeler off to the side. Was there wind? No. Was there air? Yes.
Fired it up, gave it a toss & up it went. Then it shot left and SLAM, right into the side of the parked 18-wheeler and took a tumble of ~ 15 feet to the ground. Unreal.
I proceeded to try again and again, but I could never get control of this thing and it loves to wander.
Of the times I did get it to kind of steady out (I'd have to walk with it as it wandered), the images were decent when there was good light. For a person with 0 drone navigation capabilities, I found Intermediate/Expert mode to have the most control as Beginner was unusable.
If this can get a stability firmware update and the dings and dents don’t hinder flying this could be passable but until then, I’m not a fan.

Air friers are the new thing

“Air fryers are the new thing.” I asked my wife & that was her response.
Enter the Ninja 4-Qt Air Fryer.
“You need to add spray (Pam) before you turn use it.” Another one-liner, but after reading the instructions, I decided NOT add any Pam. Good, because I didn’t need to.
First thing cooked: Trader Joe's Hash browns. Drop the suggested oven temperature by 25 degrees and instead of 20-25 minutes, it was done in 6 and there wasn’t a soggy potato to deal with after - it was insanely crispy.
Then, some cinnamon rolls - about 4 minutes / flip / 4 minutes to get a good cook-through.
Nachos? Yes please! About 3 minutes for melted cheese and hot crispy chips.
Bacon. It tends to blow the pieces around a bit, causing some clumpage (is that a word?). Good old bacon will make a bit of smoke, but not enough to set off my smoke detector, which is quite sensitive. But all said & done, you can have it crispy or chewy … both of which came out perfectly.
One thing that just isn’t right, is the ‘preheat’ part.
You’re supposed to preheat before you start cooking (makes sense), but the preheat part is 3 minutes at the heat you want, then it shuts off … doesn’t maintain temp like an oven would.
It’s a pretty sizable appliance (?) so you’re going to want to be sure there’s a place, or at least somewhere you can hide it, should counter space be a concern.
Overall, if a family member wanted one for Christmas or the like, I’d gladly get one for them.

Nice for the price, but buzz is annoying
By solandmatt from Chicago, IL
I appreciate the importance of quality sound in a home theater system but I would not call myself an audiophile. I needed a powered subwoofer to integrate with the surround speakers that I hooked up with a new receiver.
The subwoofer works great. Movies, TV and music sound wonderful, with deeper and richer bass than I expected for the price.
My only disappointment, and it is a major one, is that it started to buzz after a few days. It does this whether on or off. I have to unplug it because it is extremely annoying otherwise. I searched reviews and it seems that other customers have had this problem as well. An Amazon customer spoke with Pioneer tech support and they indicated that this is a known issue. I guess the price is too good to be true.

buzz / hum
April 20, 2015
I purchased one, ordered another to have the "5.2" - and the same buzzing / humming is coming from the one from the store. I'm waiting for my second one to come in & see if it's the same. If it is, sigh - I'm going to dump them.

Featuring a 1-inch CMOS sensor, powerful autonomous functions, and a compact body weighing less than 600 g, DJI Air 2S is the ultimate drone for aerial photographers on the move. Take this all-in-one aerial powerhouse along anywhere to experience and record your world in stunning detail.

can you use the air 2 app to fly the 2s

Short Answer: No
Longer Answer: There isn't an Air 2 App.
The DJI Fly App has been (seemingly) pulled by the Google Play Store (you may still have it, but it won't update), so you have to get it right from DJI now.
If you don't get the current App from DJI, you can't activate and subsequently fly the Air 2s.

Experience crystal-clear sound quality with this Sony 3.1 Ch. Atmos sound bar. Vertical sound engine technology creates cinematic audio that seriously enhances your listening experience. Enjoy smartphone and iPad streaming with voice-activated Bluetooth technology. This Sony 3.1 Ch. Atmos sound bar is easy to connect and features an adjustable 7.12-channel entertainment mode for enhanced listening.

This only has 1 hdmi input? So I can’t hook up my Apple TV n my PlayStation thru the sound bar? Or does it just pay to go with HTZ9F

Use an optical cable OUT of your TV and INTO the bar and use the HDMI ports on your TV for your accessories. That way, the sound will be sent through the bar and it'll be one less hop to risk degradation of the video signal. Any Apps on your TV will also go through the bar, so another win there.

I have a PS4, Blu Ray Player and PC running through this soundbar without issue.

The user guide has a cabling diagram that's very straightforward.

I read online that this mouse doesnt work with windows 10?

With the G Hub software for customizations (and to make the left-click work at first), it works flawlessly.

Can the Link 20 be paired to more than one device? I got it set up on my phone with the Google Home app. I put Google Home on my tablet. When I try to pair it can't find a device.

Pairing is for Bluetooth, Linking is for Google Home.
As long as your tablet is on the Same WiFi network name (linksys vs linksys-5G) and you're using the same Google account, it should be listed in Devices in the Home App.
If any of those items aren't the same (like using another google account), you'll have to link your account or join the same WiFi Name.

Make your home an internet haven with this versatile Linksys Velop wireless Wi-Fi system. Three identical tri-band dual-stream AC2200 routers, each equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, deliver lightning-fast internet. Equipped with Bluetooth 4.0/LE, this Linksys Velop wireless Wi-Fi system is simple to set up and pairs easily with computers, tablets and smart devices.

Have Linksys EA9500 which is hooked via Ethernet with my current provider which ihas a modem/router. Had to add 2 D-Link Power line adapters to get better wifi. Would returning all above work better with Velop?

I had the same thing. I disabled all of the functionality (Wireless, DHCP, etc), changed the IP (from 192.168.1.1, as the Velop uses that IP as well) and changed the hostname on the EA9500 and set these up with the same SSID that I had on the EA9500.
The additional devices only require power - no extra Cat5e/Cat6 cables needed. Since the Velop doesn't have a bunch of ports (just 1), I kept the EA9500 to act as a switch.
Spreading out the Velop units DOES make the signal better with little to no impact on speed.
