The beginning of the NOT really funny years
on August 29, 2010

Well, here we are now with the release of the 13th season of The Simpson's.
This was the beginning of bad trends in the show & Fox.
1. The shows were NOT as funny as before, showing its age trying anything as a reason for a show
2. The years Treehouse of Horror aired AFTER Halloween due to starting the season late. Baseball. How many years did it take Fox to figure out what a mistake this was BUT they still now show, Treehouse AFTER Halloween.
For the 2cd year in a row due to the chain store I purchased this from I was FORCED to purchase the collectors edition. I do NOT like these for myself, I just want the normal regular DVD package.
Standard normal extras on this season.
Even though the show was not as funny as it once was when you have an episode with Yoda & briefly Tinker Bell it can not be all bad.
The DVD’s are hard to remove from the package. The booklet with episode list CAME FOLDED INSIDE. Gee, thanks Fox for that. High priced & damaged.
IF you are a true Simpson's fan buy the season.

Guilty pleasure, MUCH IMPROVED OVER SEASON 2
on August 18, 2010

Yes, the show is a guilty pleasure.
Episodes that aired in 2009. 12 episodes this season
Now, THE IMPROVEMENTS. 1. The episodes are wide screen, 2. Disc 1 has deleted scenes & 3. Disc 2 has commentary for episodes. Why not with each episode-no clue about that. But it is MUCH better than the blog from Rob on season 2.
Now, this time out apparently there are ONLY 3 Kardashians in this season. Kourtney, Kim & Khloe are only shown on both sides of the DVD case. BOTH discs have the same photo of them. So, they do NOT give credit to Kris, Bruce, Rob, Kendall & Kylie? Show is called Keeping Up With The Kardashians NOT Keeping Up With The Kardashian Sisters.
1 big mistake done again on this DVD. Same CHEAP, PLASTIC DVD CASE WITH THE INTENTIONAL HOLES IN IT. CHEAP & NOT SAFE. Apparently the DVD makers just want people to buy this over & over again since the DVD are NOT safely secure.
And, a point for anyone. There was MASS CONFUSION ABOUT THE RELEASE DATE OF THIS DVD. It was released 8-17-10. Some stores & websites changed the date until 9-21-10. THIS WAS UNTRUE. I purchased the DVD from a local store 8-18-10. So, make sure IF you want it check with the store. DO NOT GO BY PRINTED MATERIAL
What's not so great: Cheap plastic DVD cases with holes

This two-disc special edition of Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple boasts a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include theatrical trailers, storyboards, a still photo gallery, and four documentaries on the making of the film. This is a quality release from Warner Brothers.

Good movie still interesting

I had never planned to watch this movie. Really had no interest in it.
But, I caught it on cable years ago.
Real good movie. Is a bit long.
The points of the film, Whoopi's film debut & got an Oscar nomination for it. We met Oprah. 1 of Glover's first films, he did have the small role in "Witness" same year. Fishburne. Was nominated for many Oscars but didn’t win anything. I remember that.
Spielberg did a good job with this after Raiders, Temple & his 1982 film this film was not something you would have expected him to do then.
My favorite scene, per the DVD disc 1 31 Dinner table revolt when Celie FINALLY stands up to Albert. About time.
Yes, my only complaint is it is just too long.
Beautifully photographed.
2 disc special edition. OK, 2 complaints out of this. NO information included on the film and a little complaint. Disc 2 is yours extras/bonus features. Disc does NOT say this. It looks like it could be the film & just like disc 1 with the film it has the film length on it. BOTH DISCS LOOK THE SAME.

Good to watch EVEN THOUGH IT IS STAGED & MISSING T
on July 31, 2010

I am NOT a huge "Kiss" fan. I like some of their music. Never gone to a concert.
I started watching the show on "A & E".
It is enjoyable.
Now, we can all tell a lot of this stuff is just staged for TV. You just know because of what you are watching.
Example. 1st episode of this season "Gene's Best Friend" when their dog Snippy gets lost. They end up at that night’s concert. Shannon, Nick & Sophie are there. Nick's friend who we have seen earlier in this episode & in a previous episode got permission from Gene to come & get in free due to his being Nick's friend. THEN THIS COMPLETELY STAGED SECURITY GUARD WON'T LET THE FRIEND IN, WON'T LISTEN TO NICK OR THE SHOW CREW. We NEVER see Nick call his parents about this problem. Then, just all of a sudden Snippy is found & brought to the concert so we can see a staged chase scene.
And, the same concert Paul was taken to the hospital.
Back of DVD it says this I found interesting "their surprisingly charming teenage children". That is a surprise?
DVD package. NO chapter or episode list inside so you can see which episodes on a disc if you are looking for certain episode.
4 discs & they all have the same photo of Gene on them. Why not 1 for Gene, 1 for Shannon, 1 for Nick & 1 for Sophie?
A few extra features.
Decent DVD package. IF you are a fan of the show, Kiss fan or both you should enjoy the DVD package.
A HUGE COMPLAINT IN WE HAVE TO HAVE 2 DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE DVD TO SEE THE ROAST. STUPID & THIS HURTS FANS.
What's not so great: MISSING THE ROAST

Howard Zieff's childhood comedy-drama My Girl comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio of the film. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, and a Spanish soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. Subtitles are accessible in all three of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer. This is an undistinguished release from Columbia/TriStar.

Still a good film to watch WRONG DVD RELEASE THOU

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE NEWER RELEASE OF THE FILM HAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SHOT ON THE FRONT OF DVD
I have always enjoyed this film.
Time frame when I was a kid.
Nice to remember when things were better & people were happier.
The music & the pop culture references are good to see.
Dan following up after his Oscar nomination for "Driving Miss Daisy" is good as Harry. The last time I can remember seeing Jamie Lee with a good hair cut, meaning looking like a woman instead of that man's hair cut she has had for years.
Culkin near the end of his 15 minutes. Introducing & this was her career the 2 films Anna Chlumsky.
Since a low price DVD NO chapter search list.
No extras.
The 1 big complaint I have is the film is NOT wide screen. Why not film makers? You are selling the early 1970's time frame so why not show it properly?

Often lost in the morass of inferior sequels, Jaws 2 is actually a fairly decent follow-up to Spielberg's masterpiece. Now viewers can take a look for themselves with this excellent DVD edition from Universal. The picture is presented in an exquisite widescreen anamorphic format with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The film retains the soft, postcard look of the first film, and this DVD helps it to shine. Sound is a bit of a letdown, presented in Dolby two-channel mono, but it still sounds pretty good nonetheless. Where the disc really takes off is with the extras. Viewers can enjoy a 45-minute documentary that goes into every detail about the making of the film. Also included is a look at the film from actor Keith Gordon, who has gone on to great things as a director. He talks about what he learned on the film and shares a few anecdotes. There are also four deleted scenes, a still gallery with storyboards and production photos, a collection of shark facts, and the usual trailers, production notes, and bios. While the other two sequels in the Jaws series may not receive similar treatment, the first two have both been given an excellent presentation on DVD and belong in any fan's library.

OK follow up

I remember seeing this film in the theater as a kid
The scene where Brody is in the ocean looking after the remains of the boat "accident" & the burned body jumps out.
We all jumped.
The positives about the film is bringing back the late Roy Scheider, late Murray Hamilton, Lorraine Gary & having John Williams back to do the music.
It is an OK follow up.
Yes another large great white back eating people in the Amity area.
So, the Brody kids were played in 4 films by 4 different actors.
What brings the film NOT anywhere near the original classic film is wasting of time on the teenage characters. BORING. Did you care? I did Not then & I do NOT now.
At least some extras on the DVD
NO chapter search list.
You could do worse than Jaws 2. Like for example 3 of 4. Truly bad films.
You just have the music & the some of the original characters back.
Would have been nice to get Dreyfuss back just to take a phone call from Scheider.

Join Joel Hodgson, Mike Nelson, and the robots as they deconstruct some of the worst movies ever made. This collection of episodes from Mystery Science Theater 3000 contains Angels Revenge, Cave Dwellers, Pod People, and a variety of short films. All are presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. This set will please mysties everywhere.

Shine Your Love Good collection of episodes
on July 24, 2010

I am a MSTIE.
This is the first of the collection packages I have purchased.
Reason for that is the collections have NOT had all great episodes with them. They may have 1 episode I really like but the rest were not stand outs to me.
This volume 2 is very good
Episode 622 Angel's Revenge is one of my favorites. What a chessy late 1970’s TV movie. The D list of actors Jack Palance, late Peter Lawford, late Alan Hale Jr, late Jim Backus & late Pat Batrum. So, you get a mini Gillian's Island reunion even though they do not share screen time. Embarrassing . But, let us quote 512 my favorite episode Mitchell "The loser actor bouquet"
Episode 301 Cave Dwellers very funny, cheap action film
Episode 303 Pod People cheap sci/fi film. "It stinks!"
A fourth disc hosted by Tom Servo with some shorts on it.
A good, funny collection.
My complaint on the discs. The chapter stops. I was looking for stops where memorable scenes were. Nope. Angel's Revenge no "Shine Your Love" chapter stop. Cave Dwellers fighting "invisible" villains & of course snakes growling & the hang glider NO chapter stop to find those with ease.
What's not so great: chapter stops

Good but least favorite of the Dirty Harry films
on June 26, 2010

After 1983's "Sudden Impact" my favorite of the 5 films with Clint directing I guess Warner Brothers just wanted a film to make money no matter what.
My least favorite of the films.
Clint no problem, in normal, fine form as Harry. Another shoot out in a restaurant robbery, I think they got that idea from what 1983 film? Poor script decision, stealing an idea from the previous film.
The shortest of the 5 films as well.
Good to see Liam in 1 of his first roles.
Now, my ABSOLUTE favorite part of this film. Seeing Carrey (Mr. Make A Face) in 1 of his 1st film roles & his character becoming the first victim of "The Dead Pool".
Welcome to the Jungle 1 of the 2 Guns N Roses songs I like used twice in the film.
After Clint directed "Sudden Impact" you could tell this was just a slam together to make money since the quality was not there, the style.
The scenes with Harry & latest partner Al working out & running. Why? Did NOT cut it.
The prison bit with Harry confronting the gangster out to get him with the threat the fellow HUGE convict will hurt him if he does not stop. Enjoyed that bit.
Good to see some extras on the DVD. BUT, for a Deluxe Edition, no chapter search list.
As stated, the least favorite of the 5 films. Just does not stand up to the original or #4.

As the show went downhill BUT INDIANA JONES music
on June 20, 2010

I am a fan of the show & have been since it debuted in the 1980's.
As we fans know, with the storyline at the end of season 3 bringing Maddie & David together it brought about the end of the show.
We start out with Maddie NOT liking the situation & bailing without telling anyone to stay with her parent in Chicago. Which made the David character NOT caring about anything else & this was all he could think about.
The pregnancy story then Maddie getting married to Walter (Dennis Dugan) after meeting him on a train. The last line this character says was perfect after he & Maddie ended the quickie marriage.
There were some good ideas in episodes which was normal for the show BUT it was these story lines that just brought the show down.
A LOT of time on the Agnes & Burt (Hubert) to get through an episode. Then the Burt fighting with fellow employee MacGillicudy. Done too much.
David crashing Maddie's car in the parking garage. The garage Burt & MacGillicudy duel.
MY favorite bit. Disc 2 episode "Cool Hand Dave Part 2". The bad guy who got David thrown in prison goes to stay at David's apartment. Agnes & Burt go to find David but find this guy claiming to be David's cousin. He tells them a story & they play Indiana Jones music. Love that hearing the music.
No extras other than commentary on SOME episodes.
And, a SHORT season.
So, we all know why this original show did not last more than 5 seasons. Not enough episodes & the bad storylines.
I would recommend this to a friend!

In addition to fifteen uncut episodes of the animated series Family Guy, this release offers commentary by the show's creator Seth McFarlane, deleted scenes, and karaoke for those who like to sing along with the show's satiric tunes.

Good but not great HORRIBLE DVD PACKAGE
on June 20, 2010
Posted by: CKCSWHFFAN

I have been a fan of the show since it's ORIGINAL debut after the Super Bowl in 1999.
Course, how they have done the DVD releases it is NOT right that you can NOT get a complete season in 1 DVD package.
The episodes in this DVD are NOT up to normal "Family Guy" standards. No stand out episodes. Only a couple of episodes "Fox-y Lady" & "Brian's Got A Brand New Bag" have jokes I want to rewind to see again.
Uncensored. Unlike when they just slapped curse words in "The Empire Strikes Back" straight to video release where most of the curse words were just there because they could get away with it but they did NOT work. In Volume 8 they do work & go along with the story script.
Of these episodes notable for me "Three Kings" with the "Star Wars" figurine bit & of course Richard Dreyfess & the late Roy Scheider together again for the "Jaws" references. This episode aired of course after Roy’s death in 2008. "Family Goy" episode has 2 "Star Wars" saga references & also an "Indiana Jones" reference. The "Spies Like Us" episode "Spies Reminiscent Of Us" good idea for an episode & good to see Dan & Chevy were used.
Now, we can complain again the DVD makers went cheap with the horrible plastic cases. You have an episode list but not like in the older DVD releases you get NO information on that episode. Cheap plastic disc holders.
Normal extras on the DVD package.
I would recommend this to a friend!
