Good Price, But Not Ready For Market
on September 27, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
A few years ago, my wife gifted me the incredibly expensive Turtle Beach Elite 800X Headset. I was thrilled by her generosity and was excited to have a fancy wireless gaming headset - but, I had several problems with the device. I ended up receiving a replacement from Turtle Beach, but the problems continued. Due to the issues with the Elite 800X, I was relieved to see that Turtle Beach had developed the Stealth 700 Generation 2 just in time for the launch of the Xbox Series S & X (which I was lucky enough to pre-order).
Many of my complaints (regarding headset features) have been addressed with the Stealth 700 Gen 2, but unfortunately Turtle Beach continues to struggle to produce a headset that simply works as intended. The first major issue is that the headset is not recognized by their Mobile Application - even when the phone is already paired and receiving audio. Because it cannot pair with the app, none of the audio or button customization is possible. I worked with Turtle Beach Support and verified that all software, firmware, drivers, etc were up to date, but the app simply does not recognize the headset. Until this issue is fixed, the headset simply isn’t worth buying.
The second major issue is that, According to Turtle Beach Technical Support - the headset is not able to function with most Windows 10 PCs without an extra adaptor. The Stealth 700 is able to pair quickly via Bluetooth, but is not able to receive audio from the PC. This is frustrating because as the new generation of Xboxes launch alongside Cloud Gaming , Microsoft brags that it will allow users to play the games they want, with who they want, on whatever device they want. That may be so, but sadly you will not be able to use the Stealth 700 G2 everywhere you can play your Xbox Games.
The audio quality, the comfort, the construction, and the features are all great for the price of the Stealth 700 Gen 2, but I cannot recommend buying them until Turtle Beach is able to ensure that their Mobile App recognizes the headset correctly.
Pros:
+ Connects to the Xbox One & Series S / X wirelessly without the need for a docking station.
+ Audibly annonces battery level when powering up.
+ Automatically powers on the Xbox when turned on.
+ Pairs with two devices simultaneously.
+ Microphone quickly mutes by folding out of the way.
+ Audible feedback plays to inform the user that the microphone has truly muted.
+ Works great for taking phone calls, even in the middle of gaming.
+ Quality construction which feels solid and well built.
+ Pairs wirelessly without the need for a docking station
+ Earcups are made with cooling gel and memory foam.
+ Earcups have cutouts to make room for the arms of glasses. Greatly improves comfort.
+ Earcups pivot outwards so the headphones lie flat.
+ Charges via USB C.
+ Headband adjusts smoothly without clicking through pre-set notches.
+ Headband is reinforced with metal.
+ Battery lasts nearly 20 hours.
+ Uses physical buttons (instead of the touch buttons on previous models).
+ Physical buttons can answer calls, pause, change track, and trigger phone’s virtual assistant.
CONS:
- Cannot connect to Turtle Beach App (which limits intended functionality)
- Cannot connect to a Windows 10 PC without an adapter (sold separately)
- Microphone is not adjustable
- Mic Monitoring is not adjustable without the Turtle Beach App (which currently does not recognize the Stealth 700 Gen 2 headset).
- Chat & Game Volumes are not able to be adjusted independently without the Turtle Beach App (which currently does not recognize the Stealth 700 Gen 2 headset).
- No Active Noise Cancelation
- No 3.5 mm input
- Ear cup opening is small / tight
- Ear cups are not easily removable (not held in place by magnets like many other gaming headsets)
- Ear cups do not muffle out much ambient noise
- Volume Knobs do not work with cell phones
- Headset does not fold up (for travel)
- No travel bag or case included
- Turtle Beach does not have a PC version of the Mobile App. The Turtle Beach PC Software can update device firmware, but it cannot adjust any of the controls featured in the Mobile App.
- Turtle Beach Support is lacking. It doesn’t feel as though they truly care enough to follow through until a problem is actually fixed.
- Due to COVID-19, customer support is very slow in responding to inquiries.

Powerful & Easy to Use
on September 23, 2020

I am truly blown away by the power of this hand mixer. KitchenAid has brought true quality and convenience to a kitchen gadget that is often taken for granted.
The mixer has no problem pulverizing small pieces of ice into snow, but it is limited by what can fit into the blade's housing. This means that for smoothies, frozen strawberries (or other large frozen fruits) must first be cut into smaller pieces before they are blended up. If ice is added, crushed ice is best. But, if the blade can reach it - it will be chopped up with ease.
The shape of the blade (along with the strategic housing windows) actually pulls liquid in towards the blade which helps to blend effectively. This is a tremendous help with blending soups and sauces. And to help protect non-stick pans from being scratched, the mixer comes with a protective guard that clips over the end of the tool. The scratch guard doesn't have a particularly snug fit, but it serves its intended purpose and is an nice addition.
I love that KitchenAid pays attention to the finer details. For example, the base/motor is designed to attach to the lower blending rod in nearly any position (see attached pictures). You don't need to rotate to find a specific latching position, simply slide the rod up and lightly twist an it always pops securely into place.
The only pain point is the weight and that the trigger must be held down to provide power to the blade. If you have a lot of blending to do, you'll need to build up some hand and forearm strength. I do like being able to regulate the speed/power by adjusting how far I squeeze the "trigger", but it would be nice to be able to lock it into place so that it stays on without the need for the user to continually squeeze - But, I understand that this may be dangerous.
Overall this exceeded every one of my expectations. I even love the mixing cup that comes with the device. It has a small rubber ring in the base that barely protrudes from the bottom, but does a spectacular job at ensuring the bottom of the cup doesn't slip while it is in use. I absolutely recommend this hand mixer! It is absolutely excellent for shakes, smoothies, sauces, and soups!

Convenient, But Not As Powerful As Advertised
on September 9, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
In testing this belkin dual charger, I dove deep into attempting to understand Watts vs Amps vs Volts. My limited understanding is that Amps is the volume flowing into your device, Volts is the pressure, and Watts is the overall power (volts x amps). While I ended up more confused than when I started, I was able to determine that the belkin charger does not provide quite as much power as advertised.
The box states that both of the charging ports are 12 Watts. More specifically, each of the USB ports is intended to provide 5 Volts & 2.5 Amps. When I tested the electrical current, I found that each port is just shy of 5 Volts, but only about 1.11 Amps (instead of the 2.5 advertised). This means that the the belkin wall charger does not classify as a “Fast Charger” like the wall charger that comes with most high end phones and tablets today. But, it does do a reasonable job at charging quickly. When I plug my Samsung Galaxy Note into a wall charger with low power, I receive a pop-up warning me that my device may not be charging sufficiently. This is not a problem with this belkin wall charger and so I still rank it as 4 stars.
I tested the included USB A to USB C cable with various wall chargers around my house and have included pictures that show the results. Interestingly, the belkin charger did not provide as many Amps as wall chargers with lower Watts. I’m not sure why this is. But, overall, I like that the belkin wall charger is quite small, but has two equally powerful USB ports. (Many of the dual wall chargers I have used in the past have one high powered USB port and one lower powered port.) While the belkin doesn’t match the advertised power, I believe that it will meet most peoples expectations and I still find it sufficient for charging my phone and tablet, or both my wife’s phone along with my phone simultaneously. I do wish that it came with a second charging cable, but if it keeps the price down - I suppose I can settle for just the one.

Great for Young Gamers
on August 20, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
JLabs Audio has done an impressive job providing young gamers with a headset that includes every feature they need to game anywhere and with any device. I personally find great security in knowing that the volume cannot get above 85db (even when the source volume is maxed out along with the headphones (or aux cable) set to max volume). My son will often crank the volume up, so I personally don’t allow him to use any headphones that don’t limit the volume. It is refreshing to know that his ears are safe with the JBuddies.
The Bluetooth functionality works well, but my son tends to use the aux cable most of the time so that connection is simple and so that we do not need to worry about battery life. I was disappointed to find that the physical cable connects to the headset via micro USB (both for charging and for the audio connection). For charging, the connection should have been USB-C which is more current and much easier for kids to plug in (as it makes a tighter connection and can be connected in any direction (unlike micro USB)). For audio, the connection should be a standard 3.5 mm jack. Because the Aux cable is Micro USB to 3.5mm, it is not nearly as easy to replace if it becomes damaged - which mine did immediately. (Either my Son or my Dog chewed on the cord which quickly tore. Not the fault of JLabs.)
Both earcups fold inward to decrease the size for travel - although they do not come with any travel bag or case. The hinges are thick plastic which seem durable - but, the metal which holds the earcups to the headband could easily bend if they get crushed inside of a backpack, or sat on during travel.
Overall, I absolutely recommend this headset for any young kid (although they are able to just barely fit an adult if needed in a pinch). They look stylish, are affordable, easy to use, have a great battery life, and have literally every feature short of Active Noise Cancellation. The boom mic is easy to adjust and is retractable so that it is always ready. If you are looking for headphones or a gaming headset for a younger kid - you absolutely cannot go wrong with the JBuddies. They will work for literally any music or gaming device and they have a fantastic warranty.

Retro Style at an Affordable Price
on June 13, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
This mini fridge is compact and works exactly as expected.
...Though it is small, it has space that is practical and actually useful. For example, drinks fit in the door while the body of the fridge is large enough for fruit, cheese, bowls, Tupperware, etc.
The freezer extends the entire width making it large enough for a few frozen dinners and also a box of waffles (See pictures for examples).
The fridge and freezer share a single temperature control knob, but after about a week the freezer is still working well and is nearly frost free. Hopefully it will remain this way as defrosting requires unplugging and waiting for the ice to melt - which is never a convenient process.
I appreciate that Galanz was able to provide retro style on a budget. This does mean that the chrome accents are all plastic, but this keeps the price low while providing a classic look.
Example: The door handle is plastic and does not actually function as a latch. Instead you simply tug the door open.
I also like that this mini fridge sits on adjustable feet that can be rotated to adjust height and ensure the appropriate balance.
My only real complaint is that is that the fridge does frequently buzz and hum. My wife agrees that it does make more noise than our previous mini fridge.
Also, it comes covered in a thin protective sheet of plastic that gets caught in the upper seam. I would suggest leaving the plastic film in place, otherwise you will probably need to unscrew the top plate of the fridge (which is plastic) in order to pull free the torn plastic fringe.
The new color is not actually Avocado, but is called "Surf Green". It may be difficult to match, but it is beautiful.

15 Minutes of Limited Convenience
on June 13, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
The Hoover Blade+ is 3 stars because the battery life is abysmal, the suction is fair, and because it sits too low to be able to suck up crumbs, or piles of dirt.
This stick vacuum is affordable and is well equipped for quick cleanup, but the convenience packed into the Blade+ is often overshadowed by its limitations. The vacuum is lightweight and appears to be designed in a way that is helpful with nearly any clean-up task, but it always seems to do just an average job. And, every single time I use it, I am amazed by how short the battery life is.
Battery Life: At first it seems impressive that the vacuum comes with 2 rechargeable batteries, but it turns out that one battery will only provide about 15 minutes of use. (There are lower suction modes that provide slightly more time, but they are not worth using.) Providing the 2nd battery is basically required, or nearly everyone would return the vacuum furious that it can never finish any clean-up job.
- I suggest purchasing the Hoover Dual Charger which charges at 3 times the speed of the charger that comes with the Blade+. With this charger upgrade you won’t have to wait literal hours to charge a battery that only lets you vacuum for 15 minutes.
Suction: I say that the suction is only fair because the vacuum has a difficult time reaching corners and edges where walls meet the floor. It is also very apparent that the vacuum is only sucking dirt off of the surface of the carpet/floor. You are absolutely NOT getting a deep clean. Perhaps stick vacuums aren’t promising a deep clean, but it is annoying to know that I will need to re-clean with a standard vacuum to actually get more than a superficial touch-up.
Also annoying about the suction is that the design of the vacuum head (and accessories) creates an obnoxious whistling. Both my wife and my 5 year old separately asked why the vacuum whistles while it works.
Low Design: Because we have a 5 year old, we frequently have crumbs on the kitchen and dining room floors. I quickly discovered that the vacuum sits so close to the floor that it cannot suck up crumbs. Instead it pushes debris across the floor.
Example: Last night my wife dropped a tub of Strawberry Milk Mix. The powder went all over the floor - so, naturally she grabbed the Blade+ to clean the hardwood. She was surprised to find that the vacuum just pushed the powder into a pile that it couldn’t suck up.
(Yes, she could have disconnected the standard vacuum head and sucked up the strawberry powder with a different attachment, but this is just a good example of how incredibly low the vacuum sits. And with only 15 minutes to work with, you want to work quickly before you have to swap out for a fresh battery.)
For small & short tasks, I would recommend the Blade+, but I would definitely make sure to explain the limitations. This will definitely not replace a standard vacuum, but it is definitely more convenient than a broom.
I personally feel that the various Hoover ONEPWR products are only worth purchasing if you plan to purchase more than one tool in the product line. Since the Blade+ comes with two batteries, you can save money by purchasing the other tools independently (without batteries).
Pros:
+ Lightweight
+ The wheels are coated in rubber so that they do not damage hard floors
+ Works well for Vacuuming stairs (although it cannot reach dirt/hair from front or side edges)
+ Suction Head has an LED Light
+ Comes with multiple accessory attachments
+ Accessory Attachments clip securely into place when being used
+ All accessory attachments can be used with, or without the pole
+ The brush roller has a groove that spirals around the cylinder which allows you to more easily cut hair & string that gets tangled
+ The Blade+ does a good job of vacuuming area rugs (although this is technically because the suction is not strong enough to suck them up (which typically clogs standard vacuums)
+ The filter is washable
+ The door of the dust bin is spring loaded - which means the lid stays out of the way as you dump out the dirt.
+ Design allows for two different grip positions. Can be held like a standard vacuum, or you can hold in a more forward location like a hand held dust buster.
+ Comes with two batteries
+ Batteries can be shared with all other Hoover ONEPWR tools
+ Comes with wall mount
Cons:
- Extremely poor battery life
- Frequently produces a whistling noise
- Only Moderate suction
- Sits too low / cannot suck up crumbs or larger debris
- Does a poor job of sucking up dirt from edges (where a floor meets a wall).
- Stick vacuums cannot stand up like a traditional vacuum. You have to lay it on the floor or return it to the included wall mount - which can be a nuisance.
- Only one accessory can be held on the vacuum
- The included charger takes hours to charge a single battery that will then only work for 15 minutes.

A Must Have for any ONEPWR User
on June 6, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
For anyone who is using Hoover ONEPWR products, this dual charger is an absolute necessity. Sadly, this is because the battery life is quite poor. By having the ability to charge 2 batteries (at a higher speed than the default single-charger) you can use your tools for a much more reasonable amount of time.
In my case, I have found that the 3.0 Ah Battery provides me with 15 to 17 minutes of use (with the Blade+ Cordless Stick Vacuum or the Spotless GO Carpet Cleaner).
While this dual charger can hold two of the ONEPWR batteries, it is only able to charge one at a time. This may not be a practical problem, but it honestly bothers me.
I also don’t like that the charger is not designed to stand up. **See the attached pictures** The default single-charger (that comes with each ONEPWR product) sits upright on a table - just as you would expect. Drop the battery in - lift the battery out when it’s charged. ...But, for some reason, this dual charger is designed only so that it can be mounted onto a wall (hardware is included). Otherwise, it has to lie on its back (or be leaned awkwardly against a wall). If it is not mounted, it is MUCH less convenient and always looks out of place.
- It would have been much nicer if the charging base came with the option of being mounted with double sided mounting tape (instead of screws). This would drastically increase the convenience of where it could be mounted.
While there are a few minor annoyances, this product is a huge help. What makes these Hoover ONEPWR products worth buying is that there is a whole family of tools that are able to share batteries. With multiple batteries to charge, I absolutely recommend picking up this rapid-dual charger.
The batteries charged by this dual charger can be used in the following Hoover ONEPWR products:
- ONEPWR Spotless GO Cordless Handheld Deep Cleaner
- ONEPWR FloorMate JET Upright Vacuum
- ONEPWR Blade+ Cordless Stick Vacuum
- ONEPWR Cordless Hand Vac
- ONEPWR 3-Gal. Wet/Dry Vacuum
- ONEPWR 6-Gal. Wet/Dry Vacuum
- ONEPWR Cordless Hard Surface Sweeper
- ONEPWR Cordless High Power Blower
- ONEPWR Cordless Task Light

Fortnite Skins take Nerf to the Next Level!
on May 18, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
Adding the Fortnite branding to Nerf guns was a brilliant move that makes them even more appealing to kids and gamers alike. This Nerf assault riffle was already released last year, but it has now been updated with this limited edition Ripley Skin which makes the gun look SO much cooler! This is actually the very first time that Nerf has ever released a color that fades from a solid to translucent - and it truly looks spectacular.
The box suggests the gun is for kids 8 and up which I tend to agree with - mostly due to the large size. It is not heavy, but its size can be cumbersome for smaller kids. Surprisingly, the force used to expel the darts is not as strong as the smallest Nerf spring action pistols, but the 4 AA batteries (which are not included) provide enough energy to fire the darts over 50 feet!
The gun is rather hard to aim and sadly the flip up sight doesn't really help. It looks as though the shoulder stock would fold, or extend - but sadly, it is stationary and cannot move.
In order to fire the 10 darts held in the clip, you must hold down the Acceleration Button (which starts the motor) and then pull the trigger. Sadly, the trigger must be pulled for each dart you want to fire. I would have enjoyed having the option of holding down the trigger for automatic rapid fire dart release - although you can fire darts almost as fast as you can pull the trigger (as long as you are also holding the acceleration button). I was able to fire all 10 darts in just about 4 seconds.
Darts and clips from other Nerf guns do work - which is nice. But, it is worth noting that our older darts didn't seem to shoot quite as far. Perhaps they are simply not as stiff after months of use.
It is possible to find third party clips that hold more than 10 darts, but there price seems to be more than the average consumer would be willing to spend - so, it's best to assume you'll always have to reload after firing 10 dart rounds.
Overall, the gun looks fantastic, is a ton of fun, and is durable enough to last for a very long time. If you love Fortnite collectibles, or are simply a Nerf fan, you will have a blast with this gun.

Cleans Carpet Quickly
on May 5, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
My wife and I were quite impressed with how well the Paws & Claws Carpet Cleaning Formula removed dirt from carpet that appeared to be clean. Our carpet is only about 3 years old and even though it looked clean, the Hoover Carpet Cleaner quickly sucked muddy looking water from the carpet.
I didn't rate the product a full 5 stars because I have not been able to test the product on set in stains. I can't promise a miracle product, but it certainly does work quickly, pulling a lot of dirt out of carpet (without having to sit for any amount of time). The product is not overly scented and supposedly guards from future stains.
My family is satisfied and would both purchase the product again and recommend to others.

Washes Carpet, But Not Equipped for Fur or Hair
on April 23, 2020
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
It is important to understand that this Hoover is absolutely NOT a pet vacuum. Though it is named the “Smartwash Pet Complete”, it has almost no features that have anything to do with pets. The device uses a combination of water & stain remover to wash carpet, but it is not built to tackle any amount of fur, hair, or debris. As a matter of fact, the very first step in the instruction manual is to vacuum the floor (with a different vacuum) before using the Smartwash Pet Complete.
The reason that the “Smartwash Pet Complete” costs 33% more than the non-pet “Hoover Smartwash” is because this pet version has:
1) Spot Chaser Pretreat Spray Wand (battery powered): The handle of the carpet cleaner can be pulled off of the main body and used to spray carpet cleaner that it housed in a small bottle that is affixed to the handle.
2) FlexForce PowerBrushes: Hoover says these are antimicrobial brush rollers that are angled in a special way to remove pet stains while being made from a material that resists odors.
3) Antimicrobial Pet Tool: This is the manual hand tool accessory that can be used on stairs and furniture. The brush is rubber spikes (as compared to the standard bristle-style brush on the normal Smartwash Cleaner). Both the pet version & standard version are able to spray cleaner from the hand tool.
Here is what I do not like:
- There is no way to adjust the height of the vacuum (for different lengths of carpet).
- The cleaner automatically sucks up moisture when you pull back - meaning that the detergent doesn’t have a chance to sit / soak. It simply applies a quick rinse before sucking up the soap (and supposedly applying heat to help dry the carpet).
- Even after pre-vacuuming, the rollers quickly get clogged with wet hair & fur.
- The rollers do not clip in very well and seem to be held in place mostly by the top of the plastic cover.
- The suction does not pull up enough of the liquid from within the carpet. The user is required to put the device into dry/suction only mode and roll over the carpet several times. Even then, the carpet remains wet for several hours.
- Nearly the ENTIRE vacuum is made from plastic which makes it feel very cheap.
- The “Spot Chaser Pre-Treat Spray Wand” requires batteries.
- The “Spot Chaser Pre-Treat Spray Wand” spits out a single thin stream of carpet cleaner instead of a nice wide spray that would help to cover an entire stain.
- I don’t like that the manual hose is a separate attachment that cannot be stored on the vacuum. Instead it must be stored in an accessory bag.
- After each use the vacuum must be taken apart so that clumps of gross mushy gunk can be cleaned from every internal component & surface - much of it clogged in difficult to reach places.
- The reservoir that captures the dirty water is not shaped in a way that would allow for easy pouring & cleaning. There is a large lip around all edges that holds in dirt.

While the vacuum doesn’t feel as though it has any pet specific function, there are a few positives:
+ It does pull up a lot of dirt, even from carpet that appears to be clean. (My 5 year old son asked if the tank was full of chocolate milk.)
+ The vacuum head is clear so you can actually see the dirt being pulled from the carpet.
+ There are absolutely no filters that need to be replaced.
+ The user is not required to pre-mix water with carpet cleaner. The vacuum does this automatically.
+ The vacuum can be easily disassembled for cleaning.
+ The size of the water tank & cleaning solution tank are sufficient in size (meaning that you don’t have to re-fill them constantly).
+ The hose attachment has a spiky rubber brush head that helps to agitate stains and also pulls up pet hair.
If your goal is to purchase a carpet cleaner and not a pet vacuum, you might be satisfied with your purchase. I personally believe that the name is misleading - as it is not well equipped to deal with fur (which is an inevitability with pets). I believe that it would be worth saving 1/3rd of the price by purchasing the standard Hoover Smartwash. You will simply need to use a spray bottle to pre-treat (instead of the Spot Chaser Wand).
I would recommend the regular Hoover Smartwash instead of this Pet Version (even for those who have pets).

From Work to Workout. Comfortable, sweat-proof earbuds that work from the office to the gym. Set features secure-fit earbuds and powerful audio that gets you moving. The Set in-ear sport headphones let you manage calls and audio with the in-line remote and microphone and come with the enhanced bass that Skullcandy products are known for.

Are you able to use these to receive FM radio signals on your cell phone (in my case Samsung Note20 Ultra) without using data as previous cell phones could use stereo jacked wired headphones (as the antenna)?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra does not have a built in radio tuner. This means that you will need to use a data connection in order to listen to the radio.

What’s the difference between this unit and the blade max?

The Blade Max has a higher price because it comes with a larger battery (4 .0 Ah Lithium-Ion Battery vs the 3.0 Ah that comes with the Blade+), a Microfiber Hard Floor Nozzle, and a Motorized Pet tool attachment.

The Indy wireless earbuds feature Bluetooth 5.0 which is backwards compatible. Keep in mind that the wireless range will match the source of your audio. For Example: If you're actually connected with Bluetooth 4.2, you will only have a wireless range of about 33 feet.
