Simple, but Rugged & Feature Rich
on September 30, 2019

This portable Ion Audio speaker feels generic, but is an excellent value. This speaker is priced low and is still packed with features. The audio sounds rather tinny and hollow, but because it includes so many features at such a low price, I cannot help but fully endorse it.
The speaker is portable, water resistant, has a rechargeable battery that lasts the ENTIRE day, has an AM/FM radio, a Microphone input, 3.5mm aux input, bluetooth connectivity, NFC pairing, a USB input to charge external devices, the battery can be replaced, it is lightweight while still having a sturdy / rugged design, a clear and easy to read display, and decent bass. For the price, it will truly be difficult to find anything comparable.
Initially, I wasn’t particularly impressed by the sound quality, but because the speaker is so rugged and convenient - it has become our go-to speaker for impromptu karaoke sessions with our 5 year old, listening to the radio outside while my wife gardens, and throwing into the trunk of our car to ensure we always have a speaker for the pool, or beach. If you are searching for a rugged & versatile speaker that doesn’t break the bank - this speaker is an excellent choice.
Pros:
+ Low price
+ Rugged Design
+ Portable
+ Water resistant
+ Rechargeable battery
+ Battery lasts for literally more than an entire day
+ Clear & Easy to Read Display (which includes the current battery level)
+ USB port allows charging of phones & other devices
+ Has a Microphone input with separate volume control (Microphone is included)
+ NFC connectivity makes Bluetooth set-up simple
+ Battery is easily accessible and can be replaced
+ Built in Handle
+ Rubberized feet
+ Bass Boost
+ Comes with charging cable, 3.5mm auxiliary cable, and wired microphone.
Cons:
- Audio Quality sounds tinny and a bit hollow
- The usb port charges devices very slowly
- No external antenna means it can struggle to receive a clear radio signal
- Does not have any compartment to store charging cable, auxiliary input cable, or microphone
- Bluetooth connectivity can be difficult for devices without NFC feature (NFC = Near Field Communication)
- The speaker plays from all inputs at all times. It is up to the user to ensure only one signal is being sent to the speaker (otherwise the radio can play while the aux input plays, etc).
- No ability to answer phone calls
- Only once handle in the back (which makes carrying the speaker slightly awkward and unbalanced)

Superior Audio Quality & Exceptional Comfort
on September 23, 2019
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
These headphones aren’t merely a homerun, they’re a grand-slam! No need for complicated comparisons or wordy reviews - these headphones are simply better than any other headset within its price range. They are the most comfortable (even when wearing glasses) and they sound undeniably better once the custom Earprint technology has been applied.
The company understands that all of our ears are different. Each person hears differently and their individual ears may have different levels or types of hearing loss on the left or right side. Typically users turn up the volume to overcome the limitations of what they hear - but because nearly all other headphones maintain a constant balance and volume between the left & right earcups, users are often over powering one of their ears (which may contribute to further hearing loss).
...EVEN creates an “Earprint” which is a process that maps out how each ear is able to hear 8 different frequencies. Listen to each of the 8 frequencies with your left ear, then listen with your right. Tap a button as soon as you are able to hear the frequency and the software adjusts the frequency level and volume played in each ear. This ensures that the music is played in away that is perfect for each individual ear. The result is a sound that is undeniably better.
Pros:
+ Superior audio that is customized to each user and each ear (left & right)
+ Ridiculously comfortable - even while wearing glasses
+ Light weight
+ Affordable price
+ 20 hours of continuous playback
+ Only requires 90 minutes to charge
+ Charges with USB-C (cable is included)
+ Easy to set up Earprint customization with or without the accompanying app
+ The Voice Assistant “Sara” is easy to understand and provides clear instruction and status messages
+ Can be used for phone calls
+ Can be used without any batteries
+ Sleek and stylish
+ Earcups pivot/rotate so they can lie flat on a table, or hang comfortably around your neck with the earcups flat against the chest
+ Comes with a carrying case
+ Bluetooth 5.0 allows for more than 30 feet of wireless range
Cons:
- No active noise cancellation feature
- Not the best choice for use during sports or high impact activities as they do not squeeze tight to the head
- The default bass level may not impress fans of Beats Audio, or Skullcandy. (But levels can still be adjusted with an equalizer.)
I enthusiastically recommend these headphones to everyone. They are the only headphones that remain comfortable after hours of use (even when I have my glasses on). And, the Earprint technology is a night & day improvement over any other headset. I sincerely glad that I stumbled across the H4.

Superior Audio, Ease of Use, & Classic Styling
on September 4, 2019
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
Marshall has been making amplifiers and speakers for more than 50 years and their expertise continues to shine in the headphones they have begun making in recent years. The company has done an exceptional job at combining their classic styling with current technology to produce headphones that stand out for all the right reasons. I typically do not like on-ear headphones (as they are commonly stripped down versions of full featured over-the-ear headphones), but the MAJOR III stands out in sound clarity, build quality, functionality, and even in comfort (to a degree).
This headset is beautiful. From the traditional Marshall logo to the brass accents, and through to the leather style vinyl covering - every detail has been perfected. It truly is rare to find a headset that sounds great and actually looks stylish, but Marshall has achieved greatness with the MAJOR III. Be prepared to receive compliments!
Though the MAJOR III are physically small, the sound is robust and balanced. Both low and high volumes project even tones with a clean bass that is prominent yet not overpowering. The majority will be genuinely pleased with the default levels and the rest will be able to tweak equalizer settings to perfect their desired audio preferences.
Besides looking better than any other set of On-Ear headphones, the MAJOR III is also the easiest to control. A single brass knob protrudes slightly from the left earcup. With this one knob, the user can seamlessly adjust the volume, change the track, play, pause, and answer/end phone calls. The knob is always easy to find and it works every time (unlike touch controls that can be cumbersome and difficult to use while running, biking, etc).
The battery life also sets the MAJOR III ahead of the competition. The company boasts that the headphones can play for 30 hours. The battery lasts so long that I have made it through an entire work week without having to recharge them. And, the wireless range allowed me to walk at least 40 feet from my desk before I experienced any interference. Once you go wireless, you truly cannot go back!
One impressive bonus feature of the MAJOR III is that you can share your music by plugging a wired headset into the 3.5 mm jack located on the right ear cup. This is extremely handy when watching movies with a friend using a phone, or laptop. A friend can simply plug their earbuds into the MAJOR III and you can both listen with ease! It really could not be more simple.
The downfall of this headset is comfort - which is typically the case with on-ear style headphones. Though the earcups are soft, squishy, and reasonably breathable - they press tightly against the user’s ears making them uncomfortable after about 30 minutes. The battery may last for 30 hours, but due to the pressure placed against your ears, you will not want to wear them for extended listening (such as all day at work - which is where I initially tested them).
The size does adjust to fit both children and adults, but they simply squeeze too tightly. For those who wear glasses, the Marshall MAJOR III are flat out uncomfortable. Glasses must be tipped forward on the bridge of your nose so that the arms can sit above the earcups. Wearing your glasses in this way looks slightly odd, but it is the only way that they can be worn comfortably while using the MAJOR III.
Overall, if you enjoy On-Ear Headphones, the Marshall MAJOR III are simply awesome and are completely worth the purchase price. If you are typically annoyed with how much pressure On-Ear headphones place against your ears, I would still recommend trying the MAJOR III (as long as you don’t wear glasses all of the time). They are more comfortable than most On-Ear headphones and definitely have better sound, battery life, and are easier to use.
...But, be aware that they still do apply pressure to your ears.
Marshall continues to impress with the MAJOR III and I look forward to trying out the products they produce in the future.

Quality Overshadowed by Price
on August 23, 2019
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
In December of 2000, Best Buy purchased Magnolia Hi-Fi for 87 million dollars. At the time, Magnolia had only 13 stores (compared to Best Buy’s 400). While the original plan was to keep Magnolia stores open, Best Buy grew to over 1,000 physical stores and decided to merge the two businesses by morphing Magnolia into a showroom space that now houses the high end electronics that the average customer loves to demo, but typically cannot afford to take home. It is the Magnolia showroom that proudly features the 5.1 Studio Advance soundbar.
While Definitive Technology has produced an excellent Soundbar system, I believe that the high price point will over shadow the quality and continue to shock most consumers away from the upper echelon electronics that Magnolia offers. In this case, the StudioAdvance Home Theater Soundbar does produce excellent quality sound with brilliant clarity and exceptional balance - But, Definitive Technology seems to prove that in order to experience true surround sound, you simply cannot place the source of all audio in one location (in front of the user).
The downward facing subwoofer maintains a wireless connection without difficulty and produces a thunderous rumble with ease, but the soundbar simply doesn’t create an immersion that rivals less expensive surround sound set-ups (with front, center, & rear speakers). Where the system shines is with balance & power. Even at lower volumes, the audio is powerful and clean with the distinct ability to appropriately amplify dialogue in a way that is not lost among boisterous action effects.
Thankfully, this set-up does correctly feature HDMI ARC with the ability to pass along 4K HDR from 3 sources. Your Roku or Apple TV, 4K Bluray Player, Video Game Console, etc are all plugged directly into the soundbar which is then connected to your TV’s HDMI ARC port with a single cable. This allows your television remote to automatically control the soundbar volume without the need for an extra remote. And while eliminating an additional remote is convenient, the soundbar does take a few seconds to interpret which source is passing along a signal to your tv. This means that when you turn your TV on, the user will often see a black screen while the Soundbar waits to receive a signal.
The high cost may have been put to good use - as both build & overall sound quality are undeniable, but until the audio becomes more immersive - I simply cannot convince myself that the money is worth spending on this set-up.
If the price is not high for you and you are not expecting surround sound - then this soundbar is worth purchasing. The rich / full audio is very pleasing and the soundbar and subwoofer are built to last.
But, if you typically cannot afford electronics at this price range and are saving up for audio that will blow you away - I do not believe you will be satisfied with a soundbar. Definitive Technology checked all of the right boxes as they developed and build this system, but this home theater costs 5 times more than most soundbars and it simply does not sound 5 times better.
CONS:
- The 5.1 surround sound does not truly engulf the room or create the level of immersion that is produced with separate speakers placed around the room.
- When using HDMI ARC, the soundbar takes several seconds to recognize which HDMI input is sending a signal to your TV. This means that your accessing your TV’s menus & shows takes longer than it would without the speaker.
- The remote does not have the same impressive build quality as the speakers. The matte rubber attracts dust and oils from hands and feels as though it will not last as long as the soundbar & subwoofer.
- The system does not come with hardware to mount the soundbar on the wall. It comes with spacers, but no actual screws - which at the premium price is unacceptable.

Pay Extra For Alexa
on July 20, 2019
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
As of mid 2019, the Nextbase 522GW is the only Dash Cam that has Alexa voice recognition built in - which is why this device is priced higher than many other models. The feature works quite well, but if you have no desire to use Alexa in your car, then you can save money by selecting a different dash cam (Such as the Nextbase 322GW).
Be aware that Alexa is NOT able to record traffic photos or video. In order to ensure video is captured and saved, users still have to manually hit the button on the bottom of the physical camera - which moves the file into a saved folder. But, having Alexa in the car is very convenient as it can be used to play music, check weather, add items to a calendar, and even add items to a grocery list. Alexa is just a touch slower than the response time on an Amazon device (such as the Dot, Echo Dot, or Show), but it is a feature that I believe most people will find useful.
Besides having Alexa, the 522GW has nearly every other feature that can be found in a dash cam. The only exception is a backwards facing camera that would film the inside of the car - and this can be purchased as an accessory that clicks into the side of the dash cam.
Here are the reasons why I ranked the 522GW as 4 stars instead of 5:
- If you wear polarized sunglasses then you cannot see the dash cam screen.
- The Alexa feature cannot be used to record video or pictures. This is a HUGE fail. Being able to simply say “Alexa, Record that!” would have been very convenient and an important reason to have voice recognition on a dash cam.
- Upon starting the car, it takes a full minute before the Amazon Alexa feature is usable. This means you have to wait to start your music by voice command - which is rather annoying. Luckily, the unit does play a chime to let the driver know when Alexa is enabled
- WIth this dash cam, Alexa does not appear to be able to play from or control Spotify.
- The parking mode is too sensitive (even when the g-force sensor is set to low). It saved a video every time I got into my car which filled up my memory card with videos that I did not need.
- Using the phone App to view the camera life or to download files takes quite a long time. It works better to simply remove the memory card from the dash cam and plug it directly into a computer.
- The camera uses a mini USB cable instead of the more popular Micro USB, or USB-C. Luckily, the cable is included and there is not often a need to remove the camera from the vehicle.
- The camera puts a “Nextbase” tag at the bottom of the video & pictures. This mode cannot be turned off - however the watermark can be manually cropped out of each video without losing any important visuals.
- The Physical Camera is designed for use in Europe (where the drivers side is on the opposite side as in the United States). This means that the attachment that records the inside of the car is on the right side of the Dash Cam. If users want to record video of their car’s cabin, they will need to place the dash cam on the passenger side of the car (so that the rear-view mirror does not block the camera). When mounted on the passenger’s side of the car, video does not have the driver within full view. The other option would be to mount the camera right in front of the driver - but, this would block the driver’s field of view - which is dangerous.
- The package does not come with any cable mounts. Cable mounts may not be required, but as they are so incredibly inexpensive - it would have been nice to have a couple included to help with routing the cord out of view.
- The package does NOT come with any memory card and they physical device does not have any internal memory.
- The set-up instructions do not include any mention of how to use the suction mount.
****I recommend viewing the full User Manual online at the following web address****
https://cdn.nextbase.com/nextbase-en-gb/2019/03/NBDVR522GW-User-Manual_R3.pdf
Overall, Nextbase has been very thoughtful in designing the camera to work well and to be user friendly. It does come with a polarized lense that does an excellent job reducing windshield glare. Simply twist the ring around the lense until the glare of the dashboard can no longer be seen on the screen.
Personally, I greatly appreciate that snapping pictures is as simple as just tapping on the middle of the touch-screen. If the screen saver is on, you will need to tap twice. The first tap will turn the screen on, then you can tap to take a still photo.
With Nextbase, Photos are saved to their own folder - separately from saved videos and a 3rd folder which saves the videos that are recorded over in a loop as the memory card reaches capacity.
Both video and still photos have excellent clarity which allows users to easily read license plates on the cars in view. And, because the images are high definition, users can zoom in pretty closely once the file is on a computer.
Another brilliant design feature is that the camera does not need to be plugged in using the power cord. The 12-24V power cable plugs into the mounting base which then holds the camera securely using a magnetic connection. This means that users can simply pull the camera off of the mount without having to actually unplug it. This ensures that the power cable is undisturbed and continues to be hidden away.
What might be most impressive (after Alexa functionality) is the SOS Feature (which actually is free to use). The 522GW allows you to fill out a quick emergency profile which is emailed to the user’s emergency contact & insurance company if it senses that there has been an accident. The email includes GPS coordinates so that the vehicle can be located if the driver is unresponsive.
The 522GW is easily the best Dash Cam that I have experienced, and for those who want Alexa functionality in their car - I absolutely recommend it.
Other Tips:
1) Video Length: By default the camera records in 1 minute increments. This can be adjusted to 1, 2, or 3 minute videos.
2) By default the camera is saving duplicate videos - one high quality and another low quality. This is to help reduce file transfer times when moving videos onto a phone or computer. I suggest turning this feature off to maximize the number of high quality videos that can be saved on the memory card.

More Convenient Than Innovative
on July 6, 2019
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
Though it is presented as an innovative stain remover, Hoover’s newest mini vacuum doesn’t actually have any new features - instead it focuses on convenience by combining a portable vacuum with the tools that we already use for fighting carpet stains.
The ONEPWR Spotless GO Deep Cleaner is basically a small battery powered shop vac that has a brush attachment and the ability to hold a liquid stain remover that can be sprayed from above the Brush Head / Suction Nozzle. So, instead of attacking carpet stains with a rag and a separate bottle of carpet cleaner, the vacuum has everything built in.
The vacuum is definitely convenient, but I am not convinced that it is any more effective than cleaning by hand - which is still required. Spray the carpet, use a brush to manually agitate, but instead of dabbing or wiping up the carpet cleaner, you vacuum it away. Unfortunately, the suction strength just adequate - while the small reservoir only holds a measly 10 ounces.
...For set in stains, it does offer the slight advantage of being able to soak the carpet and then suck most of the moisture away.
I do appreciate that the suction nozzle is clear which allows you to see if moisture is still being pulled from the carpet fibers. This ensures that you are pulling a majority of the cleaner out of the carpet without wasting precious battery life. The top of the nozzle can also be easily removed and washed - ensuring that you can continue to see the liquid being pulled from the carpet.
The rechargeable battery means that the vacuum is portable, but it also means that the device will be completely useless if you don’t keep it charged. From my use, it seems as though the device can be used about 4 times before the battery needs to be charged. I am not sure if the power slowly drains when the device is stored for long periods, but thankfully the power level can be viewed by pushing a status button on the top of the battery.
Unfortunately there is no way to plug in the vacuum and the battery must be placed on the docking station to charge. Though it is great for use on stairs, in cars, boats, or anywhere that may not have an outlet near by - I still wish it had the option of being plugged in.
I value of this product does climb considerably for those who intend to purchase other Hoover ONEPWR products that can share the battery. Here is a list of those devices:
- ONEPWR FloorMate JET Upright Vacuum
- ONEPWR Blade+ Cordless Stick Vacuum
- ONEPWR Cordless Hand Vac
- ONEPWR 3-Gal. Wet/Dry Vacuum
- ONEPWR 6-Gal. Wet/Dry Vacuum
- ONEPWR Cordless Hard Surface Sweeper
- ONEPWR Cordless High Power Blower
- ONEPWR Cordless Task Light
**These products can be purchased with or without the battery pack. Individual batteries and docking stations may also be purchased independently of the other products.
While Hoover may not have created the miracle stain removing vacuum that I was hoping for, the ONEPWR Spotless GO Deep Cleaner does offer welcome convenience and is an important member of a useful family of household tools.

Bose Costs More Because It's Better
on July 3, 2019
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
I am aware that I am cheap. But, I also believe that spending extra money is sometimes a requirement in order to receive a quality item. While the price of the Home 300 initially pushed me away, I have learned that Bose costs more because it is better. The user experience is polished, the aesthetics are sleek and not overly designed, and both the volume & clarity are on point. Even the bass is impressive for the small size of the unit.
The reason I rank this speaker as 4 stars is the following:
- The Speaker is not able to use all features of Alexa. For example, you cannot send voice messages from your phone using the “Drop In” or “Announce” features within the communication section of the Amazon Alexa App
- No internal battery. The small form factor would be perfect for a portable speaker, but no luck.
- The speaker does not pair with older Bose speakers - only the current generation & newer.
- In order to get full use of all of the smart features, you need a smartphone or tablet to download the app. This might not be easy for older generations who are not tech savvy.
- If an update is required, Set-up was a bit of a nightmare. The Bose Music app walks you through set-up (which is normally quite easy), but, for me, the speaker needed an update right out of the box. After waiting for over an hour, I restarted the speaker and followed the manual upgrade process found on the Bose support website. If the wireless update does not work for you, follow the instructions on the Bose website:
https://www.bose.com/en_us/support/article/updating-your-home-speaker-300.html
Not only does the speaker sound fantastic, but it truly does an exceptional job at dispersing the audio in a full 360 degrees. And though the music can get quite loud, it did a great job at picking up audio cues (“Alexa”) while I was walking around my kitchen and dining room. At first I was annoyed that the speaker required the Bose Music application, but the app truly makes it incredibly easy to program the 6 presets / favorite buttons. Starting a playlist could not be more simple. No need to have your phone handy and no need to wake up alexa and hope that she can understand which playlist you want - just press number 1 through 6 and your playlist starts right up!
Bose has always excelled at getting maximum volume from small speakers and this speaker carries on that legacy. And with the touch sensitive buttons, a Bose speaker has never looked quite so sleek. With the indicator light on the front, there is just enough feedback to ensure effective communication and easy of use. This speaker has exceeded my expectations and is definitely worth trying out.

Extra Work Space & Improved PC Gaming Immersion
on June 29, 2019
Posted by: TheDuke
from Seattle, WA
Selecting a monitor is tricky these days when there are so many budget options available. In this case, I think LG has created a good balance of quality, features, and price. I moved from a 32 inch monitor to this 34 inch ultra-wide (**See a visual comparison in the attached pictures**)
This monitor is best equipped for work, or for PC gaming that provides the option to use the ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio. Be aware that neither XBOX One or Playstation 4 are compatible with the ultra-wide mode (as they don’t want to give certain players an advantage over those who can’t see the additional visuals on the far edges of the screen). The monitor does not have speakers, but does have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The included software disk does provide options to divide up the screen real estate into various options, but the average user will probably just appreciate having extra horizontal space for placing program windows side by side.
When you fill the screen, it is incredibly immersive! Racing games are probably the most impressive as you are almost wrapped in the visuals of the car and the road around you. It is also a very good option for viewing security screens as multiple cameras can all be displayed seamlessly on one screen.
There following are the reasons that I rated the screen at 4 stars instead of 5:
- The stand is stationary and cannot be adjusted up or down.
- The stand is not particularly stable, which means the monitor is fairly wobbly. If you bounce your leg, have a sit stand desk that you are moving frequently, or if something bumps your desk; you will very much notice the monitor shake.
- The physical bezel is incredibly small, but the image does not display right to the edge of what appears to be the screen. There is about a quarter inch of “screen” that does not display any image.
- The matte screen does a pretty good job of reducing reflections, but it also makes the image feel slightly flat and not bright and glossy like a HDTV image typically is.
What initially excited me about having an ultra-wide monitor was the ability to watch movies in cinematic widescreen without having the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. BUT, this not as easy as I was hoping. Let me explain:
It turns out that the aspect ratio of 21:9 (which is equal to 2.2:1) is actually a marketing term for the Ultra Widescreen aspect ratio of 64:27 or 2.370:1. Ultra WIdescreen is basically designed to display films that were recorded in CinemaScope or equivalent Anamorphic formats. Unfortunately, 21:9 is not included on Blu-Ray discs. The black bars at the top and bottom of the screen do not appear simply because your screen is not as wide as a theater’s screen. The black bars are actually a part of the 16:9 source image put onto the disc. Only high end Blu-Ray players are able to extract the middle rectangle that equates to the 21:9 image that we need to accurately fill this ultra-wide screen.
It also turns out that movies are typically NOT filmed in ultra-wide screen. The average movie is filmed with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. This is MUCH closer to 16:9 which equals 1.77:1. So, in order to determine if your source image will be a correct fit for this ultra-wide screen, you would first need to know what aspect ratio the video was filmed with:
:::HOW TO DETERMINE THE ASPECT RATIO THAT A MOVIE WAS FILMED IN:::
Look up the movie on IMDB.com
Select the option for MORE.
Under “DETAILS” you will select “Technical Specs”
Then in the chart you will see the Aspect Ratio listed
So, finding video that was filmed in true 21:9 or 2.3:1 can seem like a bit of a nightmare. Couple this with the fact that the average Blu-Ray & 4K Ultra High Def Blu-Ray players don’t have the option to output in 21:9. Instead they only allow the option of 16:9 and stretching to fit the ultra-wide screen. But, in the age of digital streaming, there is hope.
Amazon’s Prime VIdeo service, YouTube, and Netflix (within a web browser) all provide the option to display in the ultra-wide 21:9 format. Otherwise, you will probably be viewing a 16:9 image that is stretched to fit this ultra-side screen (which is a stretch that is quite noticeable).
***Helpful Note***
21:9 can also represent ratios of 12:5, 43:18, and 64:27
Overall, If your goal is to increase the immersion of PC games, or have the maximum amount of horizontal real estate while doing computer work - then I do recommend this monitor.
If you do not care about having the most horizontal space, you can save a good amount of money by sticking with a regular monitor. Take a look at the attached picture of a standard ratio 32 inch monitor compared with this 34 inch ultra wide monitor. Be aware that the 32 inch screen costs literally half as much.
The choice is yours. Choose what is best for your needs & enjoy!

A Versitile Little Beast

As an all around PC, this Acer is truly great. Thanks to the Solid State Drive, it boots up incredibly quickly and runs multiple work programs and applications with ease. I was initially worried that it is built around an Intel CORE i5 (instead of the CORE i7), but I have had no performance issues and no lag. It is noticeably faster than our Dell CORE i7 laptop, but some of that could be contributed to our Dell's Hard Disc Drive (HDD) and minor RAM differences. Ultimately, his Acer leaves very little to be desired. It can accommodate any accessory as it has USB 3.0, USB C, HDMI, options etc. It even has a dedicated button that launches Acer’s NitroSense program which allows you to view and adjust performance, fan speed, etc.
The GeForce GTX 1050 falls into the budget category of video cards, but it is a good value as it offers decent performance for a better than average cost. For casual gamers who want a PC that boots up incredibly fast and can handle all of their work programs, this Acer laptop is a smart buy. But, if you consider yourself a hardcore gamer who wants the performance to play all of the newest flagship games, you are going to need to spend more money for the performance that is required to ensure your laptop will perform well in the future. The laptop does have the ability to be upgraded, but be aware that with this laptop, you are starting in the budget level - so even with upgrades, you will be struggling to keep up with the performance required by the newest games.
I appreciate that small details were fine tuned with this Laptop. For example, the screen is easy to lift open & tilt without causing the base to tip. The back-lit keyboard is easy to see in the dark (without being too bright) and the keys have a vague concavity that ensures typing is comfortable. 10 key is present at the edge and the multi-gesture trackpad makes navigation a breeze and an absolute pleasure to use. This laptop is truly a versatile little beast.

Superior Design - Average Sound Quality

Astro truly designed the A40 TR headset for gamers. From the moment I took them out of the box, I noticed that the company paid attention to small details that truly enhance the user experience.
I like that the microphone can be swapped to either side.
I appreciate that the earcups are soft and breathable (even though they are not made with cooling gel). They don’t apply too much pressure to the sides of your head and they are comfortable for more than 4 hours - even for those who wear glasses (like me).
It’s very cool that the ear pads and cover plates are held in place with magnets and that they are easy to remove & customize.
I absolutely love that the cord plugs into the back edge of the headset which keeps the cord out of the way.
And I was thrilled that the mixamp sits directly under the controller - all buttons within easy reach.
Though the headset does use a fair amount of plastic, the build quality is solid. I truly believe that this is a headset that will last - which is important because Microsoft has announced that current controllers will be compatible with the next gen Xbox Scarlett. The A40 is a solid investment that will carry you well into the next gaming generation.
Sadly, where the headset falls slightly short is the sound quality. Mid range is most present while highs and lows leave more to be desired. The dolby atmos will help you hear enemies approaching in shooters, but I have a hard time believing that many customers will truly be blown away by audio quality.
...The ear plates can be removed in order to create an open-back headphone experience, but without the costly upgrade kit - the included cover plates don’t actually block any noise (which means the listening experience is the same with, or without the cover plates).
The mixamp allows you to switch between 3 equalizer settings, but nowhere in the manual, on the box, or on the website does it tell you what impact the 3 different settings have. They’re not even named. You simply have to cycle through the options and see which one sounds the best to you.
Controlling sound options is a breeze as the mixamp has lights that visually indicate what setting is being changed and at what level/volume you are at. But, having lights on the mixamp does use extra power from your controller batteries. I haven’t noticed a significant change in battery life, but it is a good idea to make sure you are charging your controller between each gaming session.
I recommend this headset for the build quality, the excellent design, and for the comfort. If you are an audiofile, you will want to keep looking. The more expensive Mixamp Pro TR features customization software that will allow you to finely tune the audio to your liking.
Also keep in mind that the audio cable (for PC and Phone/Music connection) is only 3 feet long and is annoyingly short. This may not be a good option for PC gaming unless your computer sits very close to you as you play.

From Work to Workout.™ Comfortable, sweat-proof earbuds that work from the office to the gym. Set features secure-fit earbuds and powerful audio that gets you moving. The Set in-ear sport headphones let you manage calls and audio with the in-line remote and microphone and come with the enhanced bass that Skullcandy products are known for.

Are you able to use these to receive FM radio signals on your cell phone (in my case Samsung Note20 Ultra) without using data as previous cell phones could use stereo jacked wired headphones (as the antenna)?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra does not have a built in radio tuner. This means that you will need to use a data connection in order to listen to the radio.
