Peace of mind -- for now
on January 15, 2023
Posted by: DarR
It's been a week since I've had this device set up. Luckily, I've had no real world problems yet (and hopefully none) to have to use it.
If there is one thing for me, especially with all the random attacks you see on media, it gives me peace of mind, especially for my pregnant fiancee.
Setting up is easy, just like any other device you need to set up on your phone. The device functionality itself is not any different from the actual phone app. If the app is on, you press the virtual button until you're safe, and of course, assuming there is trouble and you get dislodged from your phone, it will start calling for help. The device is the same, but the advantage is, you do not have to putt out your phone. Hold the physical button on the device and let go of it (voluntarily or not) and it calls for help. I placed it on my keychain. My fiancee has it on her purse or moves it to what purse she needs.
It takes some getting used to-- because it's another device to carry. My keychain is always with me so it helps. For my fiancee though, she changes purses often and she doesn't carry a keychain. So there is a tendency for it to be left behind. It is more useful for her, but it's the getting-used-to-carry-it behavior that has to be established. After a week, the behavior we have established is that I remind her to make sure she has it. Because primarily, it's for my peace of mind (of course it's for her safety, but this is a new device, so the realization of the safety is not yet fully understood). I'm sure eventually, it will be second skin to her, especially we are in the second trimester of the pregnancy. So that is the true value for me.
Other features, you can establish from other apps and devices, like crash detection, location check ins and tracking. Good to have it all, plus what I mentioned above, in one device/ system. I recommend this for people with special needs-- like us, expecting, or family members with physical limitations, because it helps to get help asap. Other than that, it is a good plus.

Very stable and reliable mesh router system
on October 24, 2022
Posted by: DarR
This Linksys 6 mesh network has been great from day one. What I look for in a mesh network is really the stability, especially if you have 50 devices or so connected at home, like me—and this mesh network delivers.
1) Easy set up. It takes a while to set it up, using the app. But it was made as painless as possible. My whole network is up and running in half an hour—this includes all 3 units—main router and two nodes. The lights for set up are very helpful and the app guides you through it each step of the way.
2) Very reliable connection. Anywhere I go in our 2000+ sq ft home, I get a signal and the speed hardly changes. The signal stays in a pretty narrow range—meaning, I get 180-200mbps almost everywhere in the house, even in the farthest corners, I get good wifi performance.
3) No device drops! I had much faster mesh networks (hitting over 400mbps) and I experienced drops in a connection to one of my appliances, or it takes time for a voice command to execute on lights. This linksys 6 system has been very stable on my wifi devices and it makes it easy for my whole home automation system.
4) Design is simple. I can simply put it in one corner and it is almost invisible—like a home post / pillar or wall hump. I like it that each unit has its own ethernet output jacks. This enables me to hardwire more items in places far from the main router.
My only complaint for this, inasmuch as this device is very stable, is it is not blazing fast. Although in LinkSys defense, numbers can only mean numbers. A speedtest of 200mps in one of the farther rooms where it used to get 300mbps from a former “faster” router does not really make a difference when the kids are on roblox or watching videos. I have not tried it for gaming yet so I cannot speak to that. But it is very reliable and has not failed me, even on high traffic times when the kids are home, and everyone watches on 4K, and I have a late night zoom meeting I need to hop on to. I actually almost forgot it, after setting up, because I did not have lags or waits in pages loading or downloads or video buffering lately.
If you want a worry-free mesh network system, I recommend this one.

Pretty cool mic!
on October 11, 2022
Posted by: DarR
This mic is compact and solid. Even just by looking at it, I can tell the quality by the materials used—then once I felt the case and the build, it looks very durable.
Out of the box, it is easy to install. It comes with a USB-C connector to the back but it cannot just be any USB connector because the molding around the socket is unique to the back of the mic. The overall size is perfect, and it fits my desktop set up without it sticking out like any other peripheral.
Once it is connected, the Razer Synapse app automatically comes up for installation. The app is cool because it comes in like a mixer, so it helps manage my connected devices to align my inputs and outputs plus, controls the levels of the connected devices. Also, it enables me to create profiles so I can have settings specific to what game I am using the mic with.
Sound recorded is pretty good. On my regular headset mic, the sound comes out a little muffled. But with this microphone, my recording comes out crisp, and tends to be a little high—but I think I can adjust that with the app.
Also I like the mute light indicator—green when on and red when it’s muted; so I don’t accidentally leave the mic on and have other people hear things they should not. One thing that I am not used to: the volume dial doesn’t stop—meaning it keeps going left or right—it takes some getting used to—but it just means that I have to keep dialling to adjust the volume levels as there is no full left to tell me the volume is totally down or full right to tell me it is on full volume. I realized how good it is for recording levels—so I don’t get used to a certain dial position because the hardware and the software (app) levels work hand-in-hand with each other.
Pretty cool microphone if you ask me. Great hardware quality and awesome sound output. It looks good on video recordings too—I don’t mind keeping it in the screen when my video is on. Good job Razer!

Real effective cleaning
on September 23, 2022
Posted by: DarR
I’ve had multiple vacuum robots—I have never seen any really work the floor like this Shark one.
Set up is so simple. It comes with stabilizing pieces to keep both the base intact and a place for the main vacuum to park. Physically, the vacuum is almost ready to go once I placed the components in.
For the software though, the app helps with the setup, though I did encounter a couple of issues getting it connected to wifi. I had to figure out a way to manually connect it to the Bluetooth radio to get it directly set up. It could be my phone, but it still was not seamless. I also was trying to connect it to my Google Home, so that I can do voice commands for it. But after registering the product, updating settings, and intense back and forth on troubleshooting, adding the app to my home was not working. It kept saying that it cannot find a product registered to my Shark clean account. I have yet to reach out to customer service on this one. But that’s the most experience I have with the app setup and any other automation I can do with it.
However, just speaking of the app itself, without connecting it to my IOT system, it is actually easy to use. Setting up Zones was easy—I can make it clean a specific area, without having to worry about it spending too much time elsewhere in my 1000 sq ft area. Spot cleaning is easy as well. Just pinpoint in the app where you want it to do a spot and it makes sure the job is done.
Cleaning areas have multiple settings, from most mild to most intense (ultra) and like any other robot vacuum, it is not horribly noisy—plus the settings flexes to my needs, so I can go insane clean up but will be louder and vice versa. And the automatic emptying is not loud either. Once it parks itself in the base, and it starts cleaning, it can get loud but is not very bad at all. Oh I forgot to mention. I like it when it cleans—guys this robot HUGS THE WALLS. It hugs corners, hugs sides, hugs everything it is supposed to clean! It does not miss a spot. So this means, it is a very effective cleaner. Now I will not focus on the suction, because it does it well, or the mopping, because it flatly mops areas well. Maybe, if there is one more thing, it is defining carpet area and it is very helpful because we have rugs in specific spots.
Even with the app glitching—I think this still deserves 5 stars. Because it is all about the cleaning for me. Hopefully it gets a software fix, which I am sure will be easy in eventually. I recommend this one!

Powerful. No puns intended.

This charger is phenomenally fast! I have the Samsung Flip Z3 and it is a power hungry phone (especially with my use). So I need to charge it at least twice a day. This charger keeps my downtime to a minimum because I can top off my phone in minutes. I know—that topping off is not advisable per whoever experts. But even from 60% I can fully charge it in 40 minutes.
I also have the Galaxy S7 tab which is a very powerful tablet. I used to use my laptop charger just to get that charged in an hour. Now, I can easily use this charger to charge it, pretty much as fast as it charges my phone. So you know what I did—I actually tried to see if this can charge my laptop. Lol. And guess what—IT DOES! And it does it decently well. I carry a slim laptop bag--- and this actually helps lessen the load by me NOT HAVING TO CARRY MY LAPTOP POWER BRICK any more! This is my experience and practice so don’t take me as an expert me on this—your laptop manufacturer may penalize you or void your warranties. So far it is good for me so, whatever--- it works for me and I think this charger is a game charger, I mean game changer.
You know what’s also great about this charger, besides that the metal prongs collapse for easier storage and transporting in my bag, is the size of the brick is just right to fit in between plugs in a powerstrip. So it is actually a compact source of power that I can bring anywhere, with the ability to plug myself in between crowded sockets at coffee shops or airports. Ha. Love it.
I don’t know how else to be thankful—but seriously, if you do not have one, it’s a no-brainer.

Very Simple to feel safe
on September 9, 2022
Posted by: DarR
This is a very easy solution for a home security system. Since this is a multi-piece set, I love it that it comes in a very neat package that makes each item identifiable. So I can make no mistake in figuring out what a specific box is—box for the base, box for the camera, box for the door sensors, etc.
Setting up was a breeze. Seems to me, Simplisafe lives up to its name of being simple. Once I opened the app and signed up, each step and component was very easy to set up. The base was very easy to set up and connect to the internet—then it acts as a hub to get all the other peripherals connected to my system. Each item, as I add them is very well-guided in the app—such as what tabs to pull, how to place them, even the indicator feedbacks on when they have been connected, and such.
Subscription is not required if I will just stay on a self-monitored system, and the options to stay on an unpaid subscription is not bad at all. Although like any other home security system, paying will give access to 24/7 protection (plus the unlimited recordings and extended warranty--- I think the unpaid is good enough for me to manage my home. To be honest, I would pay for the subscription if only my Google Home system can have more integrations—but it seems to me, the only pluses I get is a voice-activation to turn on the monitoring (I can’t voice deactivate the system).
At least at the time of me writing this, it comes with a 30-day interactive subscription that I can cancel anytime. I have not tried triggering it for the police to come over. So far, all components are working well—especially that I used other branded systems prior to this. Simplisafe has the best all-in-one solution from the get-go. Motion sensors are accurate (unlike some that get triggered by random shadows…), the cameras, are very clear and very well-built, and just the design of the system itself is tasteful to place in our carefully curated living areas.
Overall though, it is a straightforward system with the right amount of frills depending on the need. Besides activating the system and asking for the system status, I hope there will be more voice activated features. Other than that, so far, I think this makes it so simple to feel safe in my home.

Better than the original!
on September 7, 2022
Posted by: DarR
I love this--- it is everything I would like in a controller.
First of all, it is very sturdy -- no squeaky noises like the usual “affordable” ones I buy elsewhere, grips firmly, and feels very durable. The feel on the hand is perfect while the rubber surface and the texture is nice to hold. It does not feel odd to grip, even though it is not an OEM Xbox controller. In fact, it really feels comfortable.
Connectivity is great too. I just plugged it in my PC and it recognizes it. On Epic Games, even if I unplug it, as long as there is the battery of course, it still works perfectly without any lag. On other streaming services though I have to keep it plugged in. But it is fine because the cord is nicely made too and seems very durable. Audio Jack is great, and is expected for this device.
I click on the main Xbox button and it pulls up my Xbox profile plus the settings without any set up. It also has remappable profiles with some preset buttons. The back buttons though—it does take some getting used to. I just can’t map them as jump buttons yet, because I accidentally press them when I panic. But they are good extra buttons to have. The triggers too have a quick fire setting or a gradual press setting which is perfect for driving games.
What I like most about it is the durability of it. I know I have only had it for a couple of days—but the fact that I can change the thumbsticks and remove the D pad gives me comfort that this controller will last me, even if I play more than 4 hours a day, for months. I am sure, once I get more used to the extra buttons and its fully customizable mappings, I will always have more Battle Royales!

Monster-nitors!
on August 29, 2022
Posted by: DarR
These monitors are very nicely made. The oval shape is solid and made of very good plastic. I know a lot of speakers nowadays come in some soft of fabric or soft feel mesh—but these are monitors so good quality plastic works and they actually look nice on my desk.
Installation is very easy and simple. It comes with extension wires out to the other monitor and an RCA jack if you want to connect a 3.5 to RCAs. But It also has Bluetooth connectivity.
Now for the sound—dude, the sound is VERY IMPRESSIVE. The range of the sound is so wide, I can hear every instrument in songs. It makes it so easy to edit tracks. Each phase, high, mids, lows are so well-balanced. The amplification is great too. I can max the source and tried maxing the monitors without hearing any crack or break in the speakers.
It has jacks in front too so 3.5s can easily be connected in front while you can leave RCAs or TRS cables connected. And the button to switch between sources is very simple to operate. So be it quarter jacks from my audio interface, a 3.5 through RCAs or at the front, or Bluetooth, it is very very easy and versatile.
I recommend this to any creative music / content creator. The sound is huge and the quality is superb for its compact sleek design. Especially with all those audio peripherals on your desks—these small monsters are a clear winner!

Wired headphones are back in the game!
on August 11, 2022
Posted by: DarR
After seeing the different kinds of headphones and buds from different brands, be it from work or personal use, I have forgotten how beautiful Sony products are. These headphones are so nicely done. The build quality is superb with attention to the details such as the hinges, the texture, the cushion and fabric, the lines—even the shade of the white—all of it together makes it such a beautiful piece to look at. Even the to the touch, each part is beautifully made, I started to despise the random online headphones my buddies would get (even other branded ones, I’d say).
As for the sound quality, there is much to say about how clean the audio is. The music and sound is so clear. And the bass is perfectly blended. I am wondering if it is just because these are wired ones so the quality is much better from wireless ones? I don’t know—all I can say is that these headphones produce crisp sound. Voice chat is clear and my voice is VERY clear too according to my Fortnite buddies.
I also tried the Spatial Audio--- it just takes too much to install it. The process is pretty cool because I actually had to take photos of my ears, and Sony analyzed it so I will have an actual personal listening profile. (By the way, Sony, the photo taking is a little painful—the head turning and all that, must be the detection process). But I did try turning on the Spatial Audio and it sounded like the speakers are away from me. You know that feeling when you are at the mall or in the stadium—where you can actually pinpoint where the sound is away from you—it’s that feeling. I probably am not doing that much justice to it, but it actually helps with gaming because I can somewhat tell the distance of a car or an opponent when they are heading towards me—and it does follow the sound pretty well as I turn my character around. Just to note though, the Spatial Audio is not detected if I do not put the adapter on—so this dongle is actually an adapter for the ¾ jack. The Headphones are wired with the end being a ¾ jack. The adapter connects to a USB A port, and the other end is the usual headphone jack. Only when the Jack is on does the PC recognize an InZone device connected, thus activating the Spatial audio setting. Well, on the PS4, is works like regular headphones, but with still pretty good surround quality.
Anyway, I know wired headphones may almost be a thing of the past—but these ones are keeping them alive. I don’t have to charge them and they sound great, plus I sound great. That’s all that I need from gaming headphones. I recommend this one!

Surprisingly Great Headphones
on August 4, 2022
Posted by: DarR
I used to hate big headphones for my work meetings—not with these headphones. These headphones check ALMOST everything I need for my daily headphones.
1) It is light. I wore it for two days, at least 6 hours at a time. I had maybe 15 minute breaks when I pulled it down to eat. But they were comfortable. The head grip is just right and the cushion is plush. Even the sliding adjuster is easy and not so complicated to operate—seems like it did not add any weight to the headphones given it’s easy slide feature.
2) Connectivity is easy. The dongle comes with a USB C adapter. So I can put it in any USB-A slot or a USB C slot. I can also connect it directly using Bluetooth. Bluetooth range is pretty good too. I can easily make coffee in the next room while my meeting was on—did not experience any drops. Honestly, I don’t think I have experienced any Bluetooth headphones that is this clean in terms of range (FYI, this was dongle connected).
3) Sound quality is clean. No static, extraneous noise or whatsoever. The ONLY THING I am missing here is the actual music quality. Any of my 3 earbuds beat the sound of these headphones by a bunch. But I use this for meetings anyway. So for sound, this is decent—just not for music.
4) Microphone quality is VERY clear. I had direct feedback from people I regularly Zoom with. I got so curious that I recorded myself with it. The microphone recording is so clean. I love it. Plus, the mic up and down
5) Design is great. It does not scream in size—that’s why it sort of changed my view on using headphones for meetings (over earbuds-- with this voice quality, YES). The look and feel are of good quality. I am not sure yet about the durability, but they look good. The buttons are easy to press. Play/pause on the buttons, call button is easy, volume buttons are responsive. I also love the voice feedback—on/off, connected or not, battery level—pretty good cues.
6) Software is easy too with Logitune—one setup for all my peripherals—keyboard, mouse, headphones. Makes it easy for firmware updates too—like one I just had when I synced it up.
7) I didn’t have to charge in my 3 days of use. So battery life is pretty good too. I worry about that for my earbuds, but for these ones, I don’t at all.
I think these headphones hit the spot especially for people who work from home and do not have to worry about what gear to use. It is pretty straightforward and reliable. Plus, it is very reasonably-priced too!
