Wired performance, wireless freedom
on February 28, 2024
Posted by: DarR
I never trusted wireless mice, because one quick lag spells the difference of a victory royale from a respawn. For MMORPG gaming or PVE, it is not much of an issue. But when I know I'm facing other people who probably have better frame rates than me, I just can't trust wireless, eapecially for shooter games. Not for this Corsair Wireless M75 though.
This mouse though has been very reliable, with no lag when I pull and is very precise when I strafe. The button feedback is good with enough slack when doing multiple clicks.
The size of the mouse is perfect. It's not like my ergonomic work mouse but my palm rests enough for it to not strain my wrist when I was in a boss fight or the final storm seconds stretch when my stress level to hand position ratio is at its peak. The side buttons are not too intrusive to add to the width. (I have small hands btw). I also like the buttons under so I can switch the dpi. It is light but is not flimsy. The weight is just right to keep it agile yet stable on my desk-- so the movement on my desk surface is dmoothly regulated (vs. jumpy / skippy).
ICUE Software is like any other, where you can program and create macros, adjust profiles, and even change the lighting. Pretty much plug and play and customizations are easily done though the straightforward interface.
I personally chose to connect it using the wireless receiver because I also can't trust Bluetooth when machine resources are high. I do obviously have trust issues, but I think this wireless corsair mouse just won me over.

Have an infant? Get one.
on December 20, 2023
Posted by: DarR
I tried several baby monitors in the market—including separate components like cameras, lights and noise machines—VTech proves to me that a quality product will always stand supreme to any other sub-brand mediocre solution in the market.
First of all, build quality is great. From the camera, to the handheld monitor—I know that I have a product that will last. The buttons are responsive, and the screen is clear.
Connectivity between handheld and camera is great as well. It is almost plug and play, and the camera is very responsive to the handheld (even the app, actually, which I will discuss shortly) especially when I press the buttons to pan the camera. Resolution combination is great, for the camera as it is displayed onto the screen.
The system itself has a ton of great features—the camera comes with a night light that I can change colors of--- this helps improve with the night vision. By the way, the night vision is decent, but with the night light, it complements the visibility of the camera feed. The camera also has the usual voice transmission which sounds a little radio-y on the other end, but is good enough to call the attention of our baby, and still have him recognize that it is us. The equipped speakers are good enough to play the sounds that it comes with—melodies and different white noises that are very helpful The camera is equipped with a temperature sensor as well. One thing to note is this camera has an almost full circular view-- very handy when our infant becomes a toddler.
One of the best things this system has is the ability to pair phones as an added handheld, and it comes with a great app that mimics the functionalities in the handheld. There is some learning again to be done as the app usage flow is not exactly the same as the handheld but Vtech was able to make use of smart recognizable icons that do not require a steep learning curve to master. The app also send helpful notifications as I set up a temperature range for example, so I know when the room heat is not enough for the baby in this winter. It also stores photos and videos that can be triggered remotely. Oh and I love that the app has the milestones (baby stages learning checklist) and activity list that comes in very handy in a convenient wellness tab.
This is such a good product. There are some options out there that are cheaper (and flimsier too), but believe me, this comes in one great package that is well-engineered to work seamlessly together. Every parent with infants should have one.

Surprisingly comfortable
on November 24, 2023
Posted by: DarR
It's a good band to add to your collection. I say surprising because I am mostly against fabric type watch bands. Fabric is hot, sometimes itchy, collects dirt and not suitable for my already active lifestyle where the band can get wet when I run, do hot brisk walks or simply just wash my hands. It's not that I will not encounter those issues when I wear this watch band-- but at least it is not as bad as I thought.
First of all, replacing the band was easy-- it's like an official apple product. The detail of the band is nice and it actually looks good. That already tells me, I won't get allergies from this fabric. The stretchiness is decent so I can easily slide it in my hand with an almost set wrist size, although I still need to tighten it once it is on. The buckle is easy to adjust by pulling down on a finger from my other hand. The band contact to skin and my wrist flexibility is very comfortable and I can keep it on me day and night, especially when I'm monitoring my sleep.
Overall, it looks good and I use it on a casual day-- matches my crisp white shirts too. Looks like a must have to keep the watch exciting!

Beautiful in every way.
on November 18, 2023

This is the definition of quality. Everything about the headphones is great.
The design is gorgeous. I have the burgundy one and the shade, matched with the metallic finish of the arms is perfect. The look is so elegant and classy, I want to wear it, more than my earbuds. And the case it comes with is perfect to protect the earphones when it’s not in use, and since it is beautiful, I think this will hang around my neck a lot of times too.
The placement of leather is perfect and, man, it is so soft. I have the earphones on at least 4 hours in the past few days and never did I feel like I had the need to rest from it. The earphones are snug, and the feel is comfortable. Well, I am also not sure if me keeping it on is because I am so immersed in the music, which I will get to in a few. Battery life is great too—like I said, it has been on for at least 15 hours and the app says I have 55% of juice left. This is considering I don’t softly listen and the noise cancellation is on all the time. It comes with USB-C port to charge which is now a standard, but what I like more about that, is the fact that the USB-C port can plug to a 3.5MM jack with the included adapter. Which means I can use this on a console controller if I need to or maybe a high definition amplifier for raw audio listening.
I like it that the physical buttons have perfect response. I know when I have clicked them. And unlike touch earphones, which gets accidentally tapped all the time, only the presence of the physical buttons is very much welcomed. Placement is very simple too and there are enough buttons—so playback and pause—or pick up and drop calls are easy to learn; same as track navigation and toggling through noice cancellation. On the noise cancellation front, there is one thing that confuses me—because the headphones are nicely snug, sometimes I cannot tell if I am on noise cancellation or if it is off when I am at my office room. So minor sounds, do not go through the headphones, which makes me think the noise cancellation is on—only to find out that it is off when the someone slams the door. The noise cancellation when on is very good while the passthrough is very effective too. When I am at home with the baby, the passthrough still makes me enjoy music while I am aware when the baby starts to cry.
Now with the audio, the sound quality makes me enjoy my premium streaming subscriptions. The audio is so immersive, I get lost in the sounds. I am not the super discerning music listener, but I know when the speakers I am listening to has wide capabilities, and they are noticeable with 24-bit, 192 khz audio. Wide meaning, not just the highs and lows, but the actual GRADIATION of each level. For example, listening to Bad Bunny tracks—the bass is not solid, and that’s by music production design. The booms are throbbing bass—and when you have these PX8’s on, you will clearly hear the different levels of low, so that you can distinguish among the spectrum of the lows. Now when you have that range for the lows and highs—can you imagine how much material you are actually listening to in one modern pop song where tons of sounds are produced. I hope I am making sense here and trying to really dumb this description down because I think I am already geeking out.
Calls-wise- pretty good I would say. Audio is clear—no cracking and my voice, per the other person on the line, mentions that I sound super clear—so I would assume the microphone is great. This device though, being connected to both my computer and phone, I like it that it can switch to either, whatever is the one active. There is some glitching on which one to automatically switch to—could be depending on many factors like browser, app (zoom / google meet), phone call, etc. So this requires a lot more playing around with it and learning what behavior works best. The one thing I am sure of is, even if I am listening to music on my computer, it switches to the phone when I receive a call. But when I am listening to music on my phone, it does not necessarily switch to my zoom call. Again, something to note, but I think there’s too many factors for software to be this intelligent in switching. So I simply pause one device and play the other. The good thing is, whatever is the one playing, the physical buttons responds to that media—e.g., I click the play/pause button while computer music is on, it pauses the computer audio, versus playing the phone audio.
The app comes in very handy too. Besides helping with connectivity with my devices, it actually puts my services all in one place—so it makes it easier to navigate through my streaming services. It comes with usual device management controls and some EQ and a reference on how to use the headphones. I know the PX8 comes with Siri as voice-assistant which can be set-up using the left button, through the app but I use Android. It’s not a big deal because I can easily trigger my voice assistant with my voice prompt anyway and still have the left button handy for toggling through noise cancellation modes.
These headphones are very well-designed and I am happy Bowers & Wilkins is not sleeping on its name when it comes to sound quality. I definitely recommend.

It's a kitchen computer
on November 16, 2023
Posted by: DarR
It’s a Celeron with 4gb RAM and 64GB of storage—so I did not expect much.
For a device like this, I would expect at least very basic computing such as word processing (and it’s great that this comes with a year of Office 365) and light browsing. Looking at it, it seems like a great computer—expect that there are some challenges in daily performance. It struggles at first, with even just basic browsing. In fact, I keep hitting a snag everytime I load a new site. Once a site loads, and I go back to it again (with data now stored in the cache), the pages load within reasonable time. Word processing and emailing are okay, as long as the applications used are browser-based after the apps have fully loaded the first time. Watching youtube, takes some wait and patience—so don’t think of this as a productivity machine—but more for simply having a device to use (versus none) for the mentioned tasks. Don’t think about gaming at all—maybe browser-based games—but definitely not Roblox.
What’s surprising is, almost everything about the external hardware is great—with the exception that the power plug had to be an old school adapter in a world where USB-C charging is almost a requirement. But most of what you see is great for an entry-level machine. The full HD screen is decent, and the brightness is modest too even when used in a room full of windows. The keyboard is nicely-spaced and the feedback on clicks is great—which I think is consistent with Lenovo laptops. Overall it is light too and I think the narrow screen bezels help maximize the 14 display without adding bulk. The sound is not bad at all and the battery life—I ran it for 10 hours on battery with a youtube video on fullscreen before it drained. The clickpad is good too. What I noticed is, the lags in click and typing is not an issue with the hardware but more of the actual internal processing.
For its price, I think it is decent, and this can be a great kitchen computer especially if you understand its capabilities and limitations.

Great addition to my system
on November 16, 2023
Posted by: DarR
This is a great addition to the arlo system and is also great as a standalone camera as this does not require connection to the hub. Just make sure you lock your wifi signal to 2.4ghz at install or else you will have a hard time connecting this to the network.
Video is sharp, even if its not 4K. Motion sensing is on point and camera angle is wide enough to cover my 40ft wide back patio without having to install the camera higher than 8ft. Install is easy too, and the included bracket makes your camera secure from possible theft. I love that the light can be motion activated and given that its installed at a back patio, the brightness is decent without being too bright like a floodlight. Camera is also good in the dark and it actually has color but i dont rely on it for detail. Audio is clear and the mic is pretty sensitive.
Arlo's updated app is also great. I can make the most of the camera with the widgets, and it gives me the ability to adjust everything, like light levels, areas to monitor and audio settings. This just means that this camera has all the capabilities and customizations and the app only helps customize the setup.
As I mentioned earlier, it is a standalone camera and can act as a single security device, especially it has motion sensing, 2 way audio and a siren. My only con to this is, it does not preview the stream into my google home dashboard. One of the things I love about Arlo is how its system can be added onto the google home system unlike other security camera brands. Its not a dealbreaker but i just hope there can be a software update in the future to enable this.
For the price, capabilities and features, Arlo has made home quality security coverage more attainable for everyone.

Complete package for videographers!
on October 16, 2023
Posted by: DarR
This drone makes photoshoots so fun and easy. It is not small like the new ones that came out, with similar basic functions, but that’s what makes this Mavic Pro 3 standout—it is more dynamic with tons of options for lens and zoom, while the size is more stable yet is still easy to carry.
Though it is easy to carry, it is still above 0.55 lbs. The drone harness threw me off at first but it actually keeps the camera and propellers intact when I slide it in the carrying bag, so moving parts do not get caught in the bag interior. The clasps and locks of the harness and bag is very simple that I can unlock it with one hand. It is over 0.55lbs but I have never done photoshoots outside of California and Nevada or outside the country so I don’t have much issues with the weight.
In fact, the weight is a non-factor because the drone is mighty agile and matched with its amazing gimbal, is actually very stable. I tried shooting in the mountain canyon roads and even with high wind speeds, my shots seem like it is mounted on a 200 ft pole. It is so easy to maneuver and the obstruction alerts are very highly sensitive—I was not afraid of hitting highway lights or protruding branches. Subject tracking is on-point: this easily follows my subject so I can still have a view of the drone for any surprise obstacles. (Don’t ask me how I’ve learned to be careful this way…).
My file outputs are stunning—at 150 feet high, even with the main lens, I can see ground detail--- and this is not even using any optical zooms or the larger lenses. The option for 3 cameras is great, that I can shoot from very far, and the combined zoom (7x optical with 28X digital) captures details with less noise—even at windy dusk conditions. Of course, the switching among 3 cameras is easy with the on-screen buttons, so I have pretty hefty options with my shots. Even with just the main 24mm EFL lens, my 4K video at 60fps, gives me a lot of detail, I am so tempted to fly it above my roof to see traffic before I go out to drive— (unfortunately, I live at a controlled airspace area). Oh, and the 4K slow motion is buttery smooth.
Battery life is decent—it is rated at 46 plus minutes flight time but I clocked a battery averaging at a little over 30 at full charge. Although it was very windy, so there could be some extra hover effort and the other time I was flying through obstructions, the on-drone radar detections could have affected the flight time. This fly more package comes with 2 extra batteries, so it’s easy to reload juice with each RTH. Plus, I love that it comes with intelligent multi-battery charging. At home, the connections are easy with USB-Cs on the drone and the RC for file transfers. It does connect to my phone as well, as other phone-focused drones, but this one has options to store files on the hardware.
I think this is the best package considering the lens versatility, drone size, transmission range, and battery options. Any recreational or even professional videographer will be thrilled to have this in their arsenal. This is super recommended!

Physical and mental massager
on October 10, 2023
Posted by: DarR
I love the way this massager was made—it does not only let me focus on my physical pains, but it helps me work on my mental health too—something you do not get from a common massager.
What makes this Theragun great for me:
1) It seamlessly works with an app called Therabody so it works based on how I plan to use it. Example, I do get knee pains after running. I also have been getting hip pains from carrying our baby. And sometimes, I get back pains from too much work focus. Then it asks me these specifics at set up and puts them in the massager screen so it customizes it (like shortcuts) on what I usually use the massager for.
2) The app gives me tips, not just on how to use the massager post workout but also on my activities AS A WHOLE. I used to just use a massager after my calves hurt after running. In reality, self-care should not only be at the recovery stage—there are ways to be preventive of pain and to do things better. Example, there’s a guide in the app before running. So it guides me at warm-up, like what massager attachment to use at PRE-RUN so that I am better prepared for the activity. At first I thought, doing this pre-workout stuff is going to add to my usual workout time, but come to think of it, if I do not get hurt from my workout, I will have better recovery, thus have better use of my time.
3) To reiterate on the holistic approach of this massager, it even has breathing and relaxation exercises and can track my heartrate using the integrated biometric sensor. Although I do have a smartwatch that tracks my heartrate, my smartwatch does not have the guide like the app does. So now, how I am using this massager is integrated with my other pre and post workout activities with relevant tracking. Not just my physical muscles are massaged but my stress levels too.
4) Besides this massager being compact and easy to transport (with the nice bag that fits all the attachments)—the grip of the massager itself is amazing. The texture, the size of the “bars”, and the shape of the “gun” makes me easily hold and position the gun on the pain points BETTER without putting stress on my forearm. My wrist actually feels stable and relaxed while I apply the correct focus and pressure on my body parts.
Also, the screen is useful and the buttons are placed and designed well that it does not need a manual to understand how to use it. If there was one thing that I found challenging in this gun, is that, I am 45 years old, and it is quite a challenge to read small fonts. When the massager is on and I need to change the speed, the screen shakes a little too much for my eyes to see the details. So I end up just getting a feel of what’s right using the up and down buttons, versus memorizing the onscreen speed to reference what speed matches my thigh pains at the moment.
This is such a great massager, and I am really amazed at how it makes me be more holistically equipped for my activities. Warm ups and prep, breathing and relaxation, and post recovery—this Theragun has thought of it all. I definitely recommend.

Arlo keeps raising the bar
on October 4, 2023
Posted by: DarR
I have a certain love for Arlo, so you can already say, this review is biased. But there is a reason why-- they just make just good products. Like this alarm system: Arlo cameras and doorbells have been around for a while but a robust alarm monitoring system—no. Arlo comes in a little late to the game but they arrive with something better than most if not the best.
First of all, it integrates easily with the existing Arlo system. This alarm system did not require the camera system, so it can operate independently. But it is also good to know that I easily added into the Arlo Secure app. Of course, given some updates, but nevertheless, it was easy. The app guided me through the installation but for any regular Joe, this can be done because the set up was pretty straightforward—no need for any hired professionals. The keypad is simple and can be taken out of the provided plug to be also powered through USB. Having a backup battery for the keypad is not included in this package but the USB workaround works for me. Because if we are leaving for a vacation for example, I can easily power it using a back up battery pack so there is no fear of it losing power. (My internet modem and router which is required by this Arlo device to monitor the house, is also backed by battery). One thing that I loved about the set up was, the app will actually make you go through the process of understanding the keys. So there is no excuse to just plug and play it without understanding how it works. Pretty good engineering in the part of Arlo, if you were to ask me.
Now, given the app, I have a much better dashboard that actually shows the log of everything that I asked the sensors to monitor, like temperature changes, occurred motion, light level changes (yes ambient light dude), and the main thing which was the opening and closing of the doors. The biggest plus for me is, this system is Google Home compatible. So the keypad and the sensors can be linked to rooms and actually be monitored using Google voice notifications. Though the keypad sounds (door opening /closing) is very audible, having google notifications is great for farther areas of the house that the keypad sound cannot reach. Just these features that I mentioned, already gives Arlo a big advantage.
Now there are some cons that I noticed—not deal-breakers but something that has to be considered:1) there are no straight door sensors. Each sensor is a multi-sensor that includes EVERYTHING (that can be toggled through the app depending on what you want to monitor). You can select one, some, or all. The downside is, this makes the sensors a little pricier that other systems that have just a door sensor. I mean, sure, let’s say I can afford to have these multi sensor with each moving hatch I have in the house, there will just be so much overlap and inefficiencies, like for example my family room, living room and dining are all in an open floor plan. So there are 5 doors round one space and one big opening window. Though I can turn off the motion detection in 3 of the 5 doors, it won’t make sense for the other two to have it—thus making me spend the cost of a sensor for the unnecessary doors. 2) The keypad has motion detection too—and is actually pretty accurate if you ask me. However, alarm keypads are usually placed by main doors of entrances—like ours, so we can easily toggle on/off as we go through the door. But that will mean that the keypad sensor overlaps with the door sensor on the door it is installed at. So again, a little “over equipment” if you ask me. Again, these cons are not deal breakers. It’s just having two best men to your wedding; nice to have but a little unnecessary especially if one best man (sensor), is not that cheap.
Overall, I love the system and I am going to replace my current set up with this. LOL. Because I like all-in-one solutions, and the fact that Arlo integrates into my home automation set up, is one of the best things. I have great Arlo cameras, awesome doorbell, and now the home security system all placed in one solution at home through Google which includes everything like my lights, TVs, wifi devices, etc—and I did it all by myself. Now I can have professional monitoring in conjunction with the automations I customized myself in my house. Thanks Arlo. Seriously, you rock.

Compact, powerful and surprisingly enjoyable

This is the household’s newest favorite. It used to be only mommy on the dryer, when it’s office day or eat out weekend. But now, even the eldest boy (who happens to have the longest hair), and the two girls, 10 and 8 have discovered the ease of this speed dryer.
The previous family blow dryer was decent too, had mommy’s hair wavy and voluminous when she wants to. But it was a little too big and long. So only mommy and sometimes our boy would use it. But now, every one is raving about this speed dryer because even the girls are now on it too, especially after seeing the shiny results!
We used to have blow dryers that kept being replaced every so often. They were quite compact too but it broke down TWICE. So the solution was to get the more expensive ones, which had multiple attachments, but is HUGE. Use of that big dryer was limited to the adults and the pre teen.
But when the speed dryer arrived, they were surprised how such a compact device, unlike our old ones, can spew out power especially for really thick wet hair. The dryer was easy to handle and the attachments click easily in place. Plus, the packing itself and the manuals are so easy to understand, now the two girls are enjoying this. (Well, maybe a little too much, because grocery food trips should NOT involve blow dried hair—but sure). Settings are easy to switch too between users and between desired styles, so it easily works with different lengths and thickness.
I have never seen blow drying to be an enjoyable task—especially for this speed dryer which does fast results in “glossy in 1-2-3” as the youngest one says. The build looks durable so I am hoping this would last with the very frequent usage. Regardless, I think this speed dryer is a win!
