Decent smartwatch but needs improvements

I chose this specific Citizen watch model because it is different. The look is rugged, the screen is huge, the battery life is pretty decent—most of the things I look for in a watch that I can use everyday.
The build looks pretty solid and the touchscreen is bright and responsive. The strap it came with though, holds on to dust and the ridges behind it accumulate skin dirt—which is not ideal after running. And it is a bit disappointing to know that this device is not waterproof—or even water-resistant. So the band is a little difficult to remove sweat and dirt from it. The size, however, even on the bigger size, is comfortable enough to use it overnight, so I can track my sleep easily. The battery life is good that I have over a day to charge it. I only charge it when I prepare for work in the morning with around 14% left then I charge it for 45 minutes tops, then I am good to wear it until my prep the next day.
It has wear OS 3 so it’s easy to use—I can easily put my fitness apps but the software in general can be better. I did notice too that the citizen wellness app on my phone and the watch steps on my main dial screen do not match. Could be a fitness app concern? Not sure. Some clean ups on the software end for sure, especially that the Citizen phone can be a little clunky. Also, the Citizen sleep tracking does not connect to Google Fit. So sleep tracking, which I have for my other apps, is only stuck on the CitizenApp, not my overall wellness app. Maybe in the future the Citizen app can get an update to sync through health connect.
Connectivity, taking phone calls, and alerts are tight—nothing to worry about that. Even paying with Google Pay is not a concern. Hardware is great, software just needs some tightening to do which can be better with updates. Overall, a decent watch if you want an alternative to the main ones out in there.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Does not err on your air

This is what a purifier is supposed to be: sleek yet effective. I had purifiers that can cover the same area but are noisy and looks like an air fryer. This one looks beautiful, reliable and very quiet. It is everything I need in an air purifier.
It's practically plug and play, but connecting to the app helps track actual air quality. So out of the box, I plugged it in, installed the app and connected it. It is up and running in 15 minutes (took me a little longer because adding it froze my app for a second, but I don't think it was a app concern).
It is surprisingly quiet and it nicely fits in a corner. It does get your attention though when you need it like the indicator light turned to red the other day. I was wondering what it could be. Then I looked at the app and it said that the air was polluted. Of course I won't notice the smell because it is food, but it was right, I did leave the bedroom door open while cooking, so the air quality is bad. I however had to switch the fan to auto, and the fan came up to take the impurities out. In ten minutes, the air is clean and fan speed is back to normal. The fan is on auto now, something which I should have done from the start, so it can adjust when needed.
This air purifier makes me feel confident that our baby will be breathing clean air. Aesthetics, ease-of-use, functionality, trust in the device --- all 10s. I recommend!

Flagship performance at value price!
on May 15, 2023
Posted by: DarR
First of all, I thought the A series of the Pixel phones are “low” tier. I am totally mistaken. Nothing is “low” about this phone. So this confused me—I was wondering how can a phone as good as this be priced well? Everything in this phone is great—the price tag, matched with what it has to offer, it’s a no-brainer.
All praises on the software of this phone. Straight android is the real deal. Especially on the Pixel, the way the operating system makes the most out of the hardware, is probably what makes this perform like a flagship phone. I used to have the first Pixel and the Pixel 3, and this is already way faster and more advanced than any of those. Plus there are so many new features to the pixel—something I do not get on my entry-level office-issued phone. The Recorder—which is very useful to making notes out of my meetings (dude, it transcribes them and makes one speaking attendee distinct from another)—or Clear Calling which made my buddy’s voice clear even while he was in his laundry room!! There’s a lot more that I haven’t tried, but just those already impressed me.
It is very snappy – it has the same processor as the regular Pixel. No questions about that—and the screen is fast as well. I go through my 1 million app scrolling and it does NOT hiccup when I scroll. No screen tears, or hiccup on the response (check out my attached screenshot)—oh it has a nice built-in screen recorder—that’s how I did that video.
The screen is bright especially when placed all the way up. I did not worry much about battery life though, even though I usually like my screen maxed out in brightness--- this high performing phone lasts me a day and a half with 8% left before I need to charge. Oh and this one has wireless charging!
I tried playing games on it too. Non-stop grind on one game, and it lasted me 5 hours STRAIGHT, full on brightness, started at maybe 95%. And while it was going, it was nice and impressively smooth!
I swapped out my WAY more expensive primary phone for this. I am very convinced. Seriously, I think this phone is a steal.

Classic look, timeless design, modern connectivity
on May 8, 2023
Posted by: DarR
The biggest reason I love this speaker, is it's design. A million bluetooth speakers can have varying sound quality to cater to any need but there is only one Marshall design. No one else can spell this better for us, but this brand.
My experience with it makes it even better: it is easy to connect, and with 5.2 Bluetooth technology, it future proofs me if I decide to dual connect it to another 5.2 Bluetooth speaker. Sounds quality is great that it fills my living area with awesome sound with hardly any distortion on high volume.
The range is not that wide-- the highs are not that far off from the lows, but the volume power is enough to make it sound big, while keeping the highs to a crisp level without much distortion. The bass is powerful and not overpowering, while the app and the device itself has dials for settings. I love it that the dials have the light indicators so it does not make me guess what levels they currently are. The dials and its lights are also synced with the app so it does not have that weird feeling like other apps that I maxed it out in the software but the hardware still is on the "same level"--- when you turn up the app levels, the hardward levels move as well; pretty useful.
I also like it that this is not a wifi device-- wifi devices nowadays are tied to a brand ecosystem, so it makes multi-speaker systems so limiting. Instead, this has an aux, and an RCA so I placed my wifi (cast) device on it, and it works the same.
Build-quality-- there is no question with a device like this. material finish, coating, texture-- name it-- it looks gorgeous. It replaced some items on one of our display shelves because, besides that this device is powerful enough to throw out sound everythere in our living space, it also looks so beautiful on there. I have to display this speaker-- I just have to. Glad that it sounds as well as it looks.

Simple and reliable
on May 2, 2023
Posted by: DarR
You can't go wrong with earbuds nowadays. They all sound good, they all look good, and they can take a beating. I think it all boils down to which one can do "the job" and be reasonably-priced. This JVC marshmallow earbuds is a serious contender, especially that it is very reasonably-priced.
It comes in a light case. The overall weight is a little light and the size is a bit larger than most earbuds. The material of the plastic does not feel premium, which is expected at this price point. The hinges though are nicely made and the fit of the buds inside are snug. The surface feel of the case is just like any plastic, but it does not feel flimsy or cheap—you just know it is inexpensive but it does not sacrifice the overall experience.
The earbuds itself is made of the same material but feels more premium. It is solid, although the way it sits in the case can be a little disorienting to remove and place back in because the case holes do not directly translate to the shape of the buds.
Now, putting it on may be a little challenging for most people who are not used to wearing those sponge earplugs. The “marshmallow” material used in the earbuds is made of the same material used for earplugs—you pinch them to decrease the size, then you place them in your ears. If you do not do it correctly, the buds will fall out, and if done correctly, they stay in perfect position. It does come with different sized tips, and you can also opt for the normal non-“marshmallow” tips, which are also included. Although I suggest to stick with the marshmallow ones because they enhance the the quality of the audio.
Connectivity is easy—it’s pretty much turn on and play. Voice prompts from the buds are on point on what you need to do and my phone easily recognized it for pairing. The connection is pretty tight. I DID NOT HAVE ANY DROPS which is huge for me. I even forgot that my phone was in the kitchen because the phone connection was solid—I was on a phone call and the kitchen to the office was 40 feet away with a concrete firewall in between. Call quality is decent—nothing notable – just straightforward doing its job.
Audio quality is decent as well—it is nothing impressive, and usually I look for crisp quality and range of high to lows. But again, it is decent—and the fit of the “marshmallows” keep the sound intact so the quality is focused on the audio. Because it is made of this “marshmallow” material, it cancels noise VERY WELL. I will recommend this on plane travels because it cancels out environment noise. However, I do not recommend it being used for anything that requires you to be mobile, such as running (especially outdoors) because you will not hear anything—you will not have a sense of your immediate environment. These earphones are great for focused audio.
Overall, it is a good set. It has no frills and it does “the job” for me. Calls, audio and treadmill runs. If you want something simple and reliable without breaking the bank, this one is good for you too.

Restaurant cooking at the comfort of my own home
on April 25, 2023
Posted by: DarR
I used to dream about cooking my own perfect brisket. I saw friends cook their own, and it's either they cook half a day of it in their large ovens or some have this complicated contraption that manages the meat status. I love going to their parties because of that brisket, and long for the days that there's another reason to gather.
Now, I can make one on my own with that perfect juiciness in the middle. The learning curve is surprisingly not steep. I ziplock my meat with salt and pepper, I put this precision cooker in the pot of water and wait half a day. By the time my WFH meetings are done, the main course is ready. The brisket is perfect from the inside, and I just run it on the pan for some quick searing.
The app makes it simple too. It's like having a baby monitor for meat-- I know when the temperature is good and I can adjust the timers there too. Plus, I actually learned more recipes from the app. I didn't know I can slow cook corn!!
This is such a game changer. I used to grill my meats and fish and have to constantly be on them to make sure they do not dry up. This precision cooker takes away the baby sitting of cooking. Life doesn't have to stop when I want my food cooked well. I totally recommend this to all you busy people.

Every breast-feeding mom needs one
on April 4, 2023
Posted by: DarR
Just as a disclaimer, this review is coming from me, the man-of-the house who can perhaps give a different perspective of this awesome product.
I have never seen a woman be this happy about pumping. She loves actual breast-feeding, and she loves the experience. So pumping to her is more of a task, of course, because she has to save all the overflowing goodness.
But this was the next best thing to her—coming from a traditional pump.
For a driven woman, there’s nothing more than her being able to live her usual life after being tied down for a while. Her ability to do errands, join zoom meetings, be in the car, and do some light activity—all while pumping.
Based on her pump averages, the amount of milk is the same as the traditional one, and according to her, it does not feel like she’s being bothered—thus the ability to take meetings. It is much quieter too.
She loves how simple it is, even if she has to clip the pump on her pocket or places it on a purse, the cups are just right in her top. One funny comment was, she loves the way her breasts look under the shirt. Umm, I don’t know what that means. ;)
I just hope cleaning these are much easier—but maybe that’s the next big thing to happen to breast pumps. For now, this is great and we love it.
We recommend. When the woman is happy, we all are.

Game changer
on April 4, 2023
Posted by: DarR
I’ve always had some love for chromebooks—only because I am a google fanboy. But real love for it—not really: usual hardware specs have always been super mediocre, and cheap—perhaps because chromeOS is not very hardware-demanding. But I feel like they are all cheap laptops for middle schoolers— EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE.
First of all, if it weren’t for the chromebook logo, I would not think it is a chromebook. Don’t get me wrong, even the chromebook logo on this machine looks very premium. The build is top notch—the feel, the hinges, the texture, the color—it is a premium Asus product.
Just some items that need work perhaps is the screen—the colors look a little washed out. And the keyboard is a little cramped. However, the keyboard feel is NICE and the clicks and softness of the keys are phenomenal. The touchscreen is pretty responsive too and seems to handle game blasts, magic and explosions without tearing. Sound is great too—surprising coming from a chromebook (as you can tell, I’ve never really experienced chrombooks like this!)
Performance-wise, this is where this machine shines—IT IS VERY IMPRESSIVE. Of course, I will not expect me to play insane titles in this machine, however, it runs very smooth. Before I get into what smooth is, take this, I actually placed this in my two monitor USB-C port set up. I am running three screens. I have my emails on the native display, I have Raid Shadow legends on max settings and have Roblox running on the third screen. It does get a little tricky to play Roblox because it considers it a tablet—so tip for the multi-screeners, drag out of the app into your email browser screen, then go to the second app (Raid) to switch between fullscreens (or just learn the chromebook shortcuts). But with Raid on full screen in one monitor and playing roblox on the other—Roblox was not even hiccupping—on a 90W USB C extender! That I will say is the real world test.
Anyway, that set up was great—external speakers, wireless keyboard and mouse—everything handled by this machine, like it is a regular PC. What a game changer it is. Now of course, being a chromebook, it’s easier to load apps from the google play store—email, tools etc. Again, don’t expect A-titles—ChromeOS has a lot of apps for your dailies and this machine is way capable.
The machine is not even an i7 or has a dedicated video card, or has 16GB RAM, but it handles casual gaming like a champ. I think this is the best device for elementary kids to middle schoolers. Because chromebooks are the staple for Los Angeles schools, so the school apps are well-suited, and they can play games on it too without you, parents, having to buy your kids crazy gaming machines. And seriously, people now are more attuned to tablet and phone use—this machine will be a great work tool for most people.
This is more than enough—way more than enough. This changed the way I look at chromebooks. Good job on this Asus!

Great functions but needs help to maximize it
on March 14, 2023
Posted by: DarR
This Canon laser printer has all the bells and whistles (except for fax; but who needs fax??)—but it has everything I will need for my small business. Specified document scanning, photo, OCR, etc. I think Canon’s got printing down—printer speed, print quality, load management, connectivity. These are features that are needed on a daily basis.
However, getting there is another thing because installation is not easy. I mean, it is not hard, especially for someone savvy like me. Some steps are pretty basic—the printer does not have that many hardware components. It’s practically taking tapes off and plugging it in. However, settings, software and drivers for this, is not simple for your average person.
First of all, the device is not plug and play—I had to set up the printer through adding new printers in your PC after I have connected the printer to my network so my pc will recognize it. The touchscreen is not very responsive. It is difficult to navigate through the printer screen interface and the touch screen itself is not helpful. I do not have big hands at all, but it keeps pressing some other menu selections that I am not selecting. If you prefer to use the provided CD— umm, this is 2023. Only dinosaurs have CD roms for CD use. And for people who still probably listens to CDs, they will not have the technical acumen to tinker with the feature-rich settings of this device. Again for me, I have the patience and know-how to do these. For my Uncle Bert, he needs some IT help.
The manuals are not very intuitive either. I had to use the web to get actual software, not just the drivers, to be able to scan. They are not readily available in Microsoft stores or through a websearch—you have to know what to pick. Again, Uncle Bert will not be happy. Now let’s say my niece Madeline who just started her dropship business, who will be printing packing slips all day—sure, she will be happy with this when it is ALREADY working. However, at set up, Maddie will pull her hair—because she has lived in a world of apps where things are plug-and-play, and her touchscreens are highly responsive 120hz screens.
Again, for the main things that we use a printer for, this one is great. It prints well, and it does it fast. Scans are clear, and you can adjust settings to your preferences. The usability still needs help for this to be a full consumer only device. This is great for offices where there is a specified knowledgeable person to set it up. But I can’t expect Uncle Bert or Maddie to tinker with the network and security settings, even to just adjust the send preferences. I like Canon, but the user-experience on this machine needs improvement.

Very precise
on February 12, 2023
Posted by: DarR
There's many things to love about this: 1) It's compact and light; other good shavers I had were bulky. I can travel light with this, plus it charges easily too. 2) it has a comfortable after-feel. I can cut close to my skin and not hurt myself. 3) It is very precise. The "blade" is on point and very easy to maneuver. 4) The blade options can be endless. The attachment points seem flimsy though but they are surprisingly flexible and durable.
Biggest plus: I used to be so afraid of shaving below the belt. This gave me confidence to do so. Those sensitive areas can hurt even with really good expensive shavers I had. This one though, does not hurt at all and I can really cut close to the skin. I did notice cuts and some bleeding but it didn't hurt at all. Some cuts are normal, but for other shavers, they hurt a lot. With this one, I don't even notice that I have already had cuts because it just shaves it all off.
My only con is the softness of the skin after shaving. It does shave the surface but if you pinch your skin, you know there are stubbles under there. The stubbles don't show; the shave is clean. However, the shave is not fully soft, like when the hairs are totally removed when waxed. I think this is the compromise of having a shaver that does not hurt wherever I slide it onto. I get a clean shave but it's not baby soft skin pinch feel. If you know what I mean. It's still good overall. I think this depth of shaving so far has not given me ingrowns.
I recommend.
I would recommend this to a friend!
