I don’t bring my keys anymore
on June 21, 2022

This is such a great addition to the Wyze lock. Wyze has mastered the art of making installation so easy. This keypad is EASY to install as well. I put it on the door, paired with my lock and I have an automated door in a few minutes.
The confirmations and feedback are so intuitive. The keypad lights up, and the tones are very recognizable. The lighting, and sounds make it easy to operate. I know if I entered the numbers right because the sound is distinguishable or, it alarms if I left the door open, or it alerts me if the door is jammed.
Keypad number sharing is great too and very intuitive once paired in the app. I easily shared the app to my wife and she can choose her own number combination to unlock the door. I can also provide guest pass numbers which is perfect when relatives come over and we’re not at home, which happens 3 out of 5 times, so we can let them in first. I can imagine how helpful this must be for AirBnb hosts—it’s a must have I will say.
Such a time-saver to not have to bring my keys and lock/ unlock the door. This keypad makes it so easy!

Wyze Lock is a staple in our smart home wizardry. This is a smart lock that that does what you expect, and really all that you need from a smart lock. Wyze Lock is Wi-Fi capable, so you can control it remotely from your phone to let the dog walker in, or make sure it gets locked after you left on your vacation in such a rush. That’s not all this bad boy can do. Wyze Lock comes equipped with App and knows when you arrive home and automatically unlocks as you approach the door. Once inside, Wyze Lock’s built-in gyroscope detects when the door is closed and automatically locks behind you. It’s got all that and more. Like we said, all the tech you need, now at a price you can afford.

Peace-of-mind round the clock lock
on June 20, 2022
Posted by: DarR
This is the easiest way I have ever automated anything in my house. I open the box, put the components in and is functional within minutes. I hardly even used the manual. Hardware installation is very basic and it easily adapted to our 30 year old lock. Just take the back off, and replace it with the Wyze lock. The screws included were too short for my thick door—but hey—this lock system is flexible enough that my previous long screws fit just fine.
App set up is easy too. At first I had questions like, did I install it right—because there seems to be some weird clicking when I turn the lock. But I just followed what the app guide told me, especially at calibration, and the lock works perfectly. I don’t even know how it does it—like lock automatically when the door closes. I guess that’s the magic that happens at step-by-step calibration.
This is such a great addition to the door and I don’t know why I only got this now. Maybe because I thought it will take too much to set it up—when it is actually so easy. I can leave the house without having to lock the top—and it gives me peace-of-mind that the house is locked because of the auto lock feature. Also, gone are the times I second guess if I have locked the door, because the app is there and I can see if I did lock it—and remotely lock it if I miss it. Luckily (lockily?) I haven’t missed locking it—but I guess I will never have to worry about that from now on. No-brainer product. I definitely recommend.

Everyone with an HVAC system must have one
on June 7, 2022
Posted by: DarR
This Ecobee thermostat is a really nice add on to my wall. It looks good, is highly functional and saves me energy too!
It was not an easy install on my system though. Normally, I would usually be able to install this myself. I had to hire a professional to have it installed because it requires a 24V wire. My previous thermostat only has 4 wires and does not include a C wire, so the professional had to find a way to power it up. So just a word of advice, make sure you know your system so you know what to expect on installation.
After it was installed though, everything was easy. It is big but it looks nice and elegant on the wall. It is like a décor upgrade. The design looks sleek and the screen is full color. It is easy to know what setting it is from a 15 foot distance, and this is coming from a guy who has near sighted astigmatism.
I have my whole home set up with IOT. This thermostat was easily detected by my Google home system so it was easy to incorporate it in my current home automation setup. Although my home system is set up to know my schedule, where I am at and can trigger device actions, this EcoBee thermostat’s system is a standalone as well. I can set up schedule, and geofencing as well, so it can set my home temp based on my lifestyle even WITHOUT a home system. So app features are great—and my pro installer also showed me, how good it is that I can actually do wire configurations and troubleshooting in the thermostat itself so I can do the tweaks even without him around. The thermostat is a complete system in itself.
The thermostat did ask me about what energy provider I was using and what time of use I have on my bill—only to learn that I can compare my consumption with others, which is really helpful in terms of saving energy (or maybe peer-pressured into making sure I don’t keep the AC endlessly running wastefully). Maybe my only complaint is that the screen is not as quickly responsive to touch—maybe because with this nice screen, I got used to my phone that does things so fast—but yes, I am reminded that it is a thermostat, not a phone.
The best thing about this thermostat is the way it makes me feel responsible for my consumption. There is so much focus on saving energy (vs. just the usability and advantages of having an automatic temperature controller)—that to me is the real win, when I know I have something that promotes being conscientious. It is not just good for my home, it is good for everyone else's too.

Fits my audio lifestyle now and later
on June 3, 2022

I love Sonos products. You cannot go wrong with them. You put one anywhere, and you can expect great sound coming from it. This Sonos Ray however, is also great, but chooses its elements.
First, setting up is easy. I opened the Sonos App, hardwired the product to a router (you can do it through wifi too—but it’s always easier for me to directly wire this one—recognition is faster and the speaker is not bulky to carry from my router to my bedroom anyway), and it is set up in a breeze. Mind you, I have other Sonos products already, so it was very simple add. I have this 60 inch TV in the master bedroom that needed a nicer soundbar. I connected it using an optical cable and sound is easily set up. Now I wanted to control the volume through the TV—my worry is, that TV was using a Roku remote. But guess what? In the Sonos app, I was able to connect the remote easily by pointing the remote to the soundbar as suggested. Super fast and easy. I was initially worried since it was connected through optical, versus HDMI, and that it uses a different remote—but totally no hassle at all--no compatibility issues or anything. Good job, Sonos software!
Now, for the sound, connected to the TV: it was crisp and can be loud without breaking. The sound was overall complete. Vocals were clear, thumps were solid, and mid range was easily distinguishable without trying hard to really focus on the audio. HOWEVER, the sound lacked wideness for me. It is able to project itself from that TV, but I don’t think it can support a TV bigger than this 60 incher without any support. How I say this because I am used to bigger soundbars and home theater systems. Do not get me wrong-- for a bedroom TV, this one is perfect. Like I said, the sound is complete in one Sonos soundbar especially if you want simplicity in your set up. Especially that my lady does not want clutter in the bedroom, this is more than enough sound without having other components.
For those who expect to have an insane home theater experience, I think there is an opportunity for the Sonos Ray to shine. The good thing about the Sonos system is, you can add speakers. And it is just not adding speakers, it can easily add more Sonos speakers to your system to match the experience you want. Now the good thing is, this is really good speaker quality—which means, if you want the full home theater ride, this can be an awesome center speaker. If you can add two Sonos Ones as surround and then a subwoofer, this will be a monster of a system. Again, good piece as a stand alone and can be greater if you want more.
Going back to my bedroom—MUSIC—oh this is why I love Sonos. I streamed an R&B song and it is like butter. I don’t even know how to explain how good this speaker sounds for music. It just sounds so powerfully full without overwhelming the room. I guess for the price point, you get a really good music speaker and a versatile tv soundbar that you can upgrade if you want a much bigger experience. It is actually a really good value if you think about it. You get a Sonos soundbar for a decent price with so much headroom for future proofing. It actually flexes to your lifestyle. Good job, Sonos hardware.
I applaud Sonos for creating a product that is very versatile. It is high quality, it is of reasonable value, and it does not discriminate. It fulfills what I need without imposing features I will not need. I highly recommend.

Cube GPS Tracker can be placed discretely in your vehicle so you can track where it goes, how long it spends there, and at what speed it travels. Cube gathers data via GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cell tower triangulation then reports the data back via the LTE-M data plan. Plans start at $16.50/Month.; Ideal for theft recovery, fleet tracking or just keeping an eye on your valuables. Cube GPS can be hardwired into vehicles using optional OBD II plug or wired directly to the battery with the hardwire kit.; Thieves today know exactly where to go to disable the factory GPS on newer cars. Cube GPS can be a backup plan to help with recovery. Even if the thief removes the cables from the battery the Cube will still report using its own battery for up to two weeks.

Very reliable and easy to use!

I’ve tried a lot of other tracking devices, including those generic ones you can purchase anywhere. This device attests to the saying, you get what you pay for. The Cube tracker is the perfect mix of hardware and software.
First the hardware, super well built, responsive button, compact and solid—I am not afraid to strap it onto anything. Then the software—the app is so easy to use. I cannot go wrong with anything I click.
Setting up the device is easy. Pairing was a breeze and the app can recognize the device within a couple of minutes. One thing, the app requested for me to turn on my location all the time. I have some hesitation with allowing the my phone’s location all the time to perfectly use the app. I don’t know if I am just mistaking it—but I am thinking, it should be the location of the Cube all the time, not my phone. So I need to understand why I need to have my location accessed to read where the Cube is. Anyway, back to the app, I just click the Cube in the app and I see it’s location. It tracks where it is and it also tracks where it has been—the exact path. So that’s great. I can see where the tracker has been day-by-day. The map it provides is not too shabby either—there are notable POIs in the map, like restaurants, community centers, post offices, etc. There are pretty cool features on it too—like sharing the location with others, getting alerts in reference to my location, even fencing areas so it can save battery or it can let you know whether the cube has reached a certain location I set up.
Speaking of saving battery, I have been using it for a week, attached to another car, without using the save battery feature of the Cube, and I still have 68%. I started on a full charge and after a week of use, I still have 68% battery—which is so cool. And another cool feature is, the Cube has a button that you can program—press it a certain number of times and it can notify someone of a custom message, like where I am or if I need help.
It is a really useful device. There is a data subscription though, which is expected because it has to communicate with you wherever it is. But it is a perfect companion with the kids (especially with the dangers out there), or our other cars, etc. I super recommend!

My vacuum, mops and cleaning accessories are all stored in a messy cabinet and are not very accessible. This cord zero does not only clean our messy 3-child home, it also organizes our cleaning tools to keep the house clean.
The station itself looks good. This all-in-one station is not something I can and should keep in the closet—and I actually like it that way. It looks good out in a corner where we can easily pull the vacuum out for cereal grain spills. The design looks neat, the other nozzles and connecting tools can be stored in the station compartments, and the vacuum automatically charges once you park it. The vacuum can automatically empty itself (or you can manually trigger it). It even has a charging / storage for an extra battery which, all you clean freaks with kids out there know how important it is to have a charged EXTRA BATTERY.
Performance-wise, it is great. I have to use it on TURBO all the time though. The normal mode just does not cut it for me. Maybe I can use that to suck other things? I don’t even know what “other” things are. All I know is, when it comes to vacuuming, it’s either it sucks it or it doesn’t. The turbo does it and for cleaning regularly a 1500 sq ft space of wood floor, I have never encountered having to even use the spare battery. Another winner for me is the mop tool. You pre-wet the attachment cloths, put water in the bin and I mop away! There is no turbo mode for mopping, but it does the job as well! And I have been using the mop for 40 -45 minutes at a time and I do not run out of battery. This is me going through each sliver of space, slowly on the floor and it mops nicely and consistently. Oh, best of all, it is CORDLESS. I do not have to keep transferring the plug or have to hold a cord up and around me to get mopping done.
This is just so well-thought out. Even the bags and filter replacement system is easy (which we have not really done after a week of use, because we don’t think about it--- the vacuum empties itself, remember?) It makes the lady of the house happy, and it makes us all happy too.
We just threw away all our cleaning appliances—corded mops and other vacuum sticks. This is what design is supposed to be. All-in-one—It just made cleaning fun and easy.

It takes serious water power to clear debris — meet one of the strongest cordless engines on the market: the BURST Water Flosser. With three settings and three 360-degree rotating tip options, you can massage your gums, precisely spray between teeth to dislodge bacteria, and give plaque the boot.

Great for crowded teeth!
on May 5, 2022
Posted by: DarR
from Los Angeles CA
I always heard good things about water picks but have never jumped the gun because my bottom teeth are horribly crowded. This can be TMI but my bottom teeth are crowded in a sense that I need to heavily floss especially when I eat UNpulled pork or stemmy veggies.
This Burst water flosser though makes string flossing a thing of the past. This water flosser throws the right pressure to dislodge all those food debris in my mouth at HALF THE TIME I USUALLY FLOSS. First off, holding it is comfortable. It has the right balance of bulkiness but enough size to store enough water in for a complete floss. Now, it does take me at least two loads to floss my teeth. It used to take me three loads in my first few days but once I got used to it, the first load of water will run out in my last few teeth at the back. So just a little over one load is right for me (with crowded teeth that need extra flossing to make sure they are clean). Again, holding it is easy so it is very very portable, besides it being compact enough for me to put in my luggage. My medium-sized hands wrap around the handle comfortable enough and the buttons are easy to navigate. The power /setting button is responsive enough, while the light indicator is easy to recognize—I just make sure I set the right pressure setting before I floss or else a lot of water will be wasted as I adjust pressures on the fly (takes time to think and feel you know).
Battery life is not a problem. I mean, it takes me less time to floss so I have not really encountered it dying on me, and because I also leave it charged. Longest I left it uncharged was 4 sessions (2 days) and it had more than enough juice to keep going without any sense of slowing down. Charging is easy and I was afraid the adapter will short or something when it gets wet. Not that I intentionally tried wetting the tip of the charger but it did get splashed on and so far, everything is functioning well.
This water flosser is so good, I think everyone should have one—and perhaps save the earth from more plastic waste or cut trees done by traditional flossing.

Sound 10/10, Cool factor 15/10!

How Often Used:Daily
These earbuds embody what Marshall is to me: vintage classy design matched with superb sound quality.
From the moment I opened the box, it already put me in a music room full of vinyl, musical instruments and the smell of smoke on carpet. The visual texture of the case looks like a guitar amp itself and the finish mimics an amp’s casing. The typeface logo and the inscription etching inside the case is executed perfectly. The earbuds even has the nice M of the brand and they look good on my ears. Just by looking at the device, you can tell the quality. Feeling it though is another thing. It is light but the feel of the material does not match the visual quality. It feels a little plasticky—but it seems solid. Maybe it’s how to keep the weight low, because the whole device and the earbuds when worn all feel really light.
Speaking of the fit, it is very snug. The shape slips right into my ear and the extended shape of the bud keeps it in place. I was confident in the fit that I did not worry about it while I was running. Even as I opened my mouth when I breathe or when sweat starts to roll in my ear, the buds stayed in place.
Now about the sound, which is the most important thing—I was surprised how great sound can come out of these light buds. The bass thump has the perfect oomph without trying to impose the power of the low frequency. In other terms, it is not trying hard. My phone was roughly around 35% level with youtube music on full volume, and the delivery of the sound was very balanced--- no equalizer tweaks. I turned up my phone volume, and dropped the app sound level to a third-- the range of the sound sounded wide and clear, meaning I can hear the midrange of BTS’ Butter with the highs coming in distinctly along with the low beat. So yes, sound quality is really great.
Connectivity is easy, like any Bluetooth device. My phone automatically recognized this specific Marshall ANC Motif Bluetooth headset and prompted a quick install of the supporting app and had a ten-minute firmware update. Phone calls are clear and according to the person on the other end of the line, my voice is clear, with a little sensitivity on background noise. Just something to point out as, the active noise cancellation is awesome. I did not hear my toilet flush while I was listening to a conference video. That means, if I am on the call, I just need to make sure I am aware of the surroundings because I can get so caught in how the noise cancellation engulfs me: the person I am speaking with will know that I just came from the restroom with me being unaware of that broadcast. I can already tell how this will be great for long flights. USB-C is standard, and wireless charging comes in super handy.
Plus, it’s a Marshall—these buds make me feel like I have something different and something cool. I do recommend it, but at the back of my head, I want to be the only one who has them.

Air purifying made simple
on February 1, 2022
Posted by: DarR
from Los Angeles CA
With the onset of Covid and the rise of technology, air purifiers became more advanced, with tons of different features, like wifi and real-time remote monitoring, etc.—most features you won’t really pay attention to once a purifier is set up. Let’s face it, we forget purifiers when we set them up. I trust that it is doing it’s job and leave it alone. This is what this air purifier does—it makes everything simple.
First of all, the build is nice and clean. Though it does feel a little plasticky to the touch, the texture of the material and the design is pretty. You know you cannot throw it around and still be in the same shape. But that’s not what you get it for. Once I put it on somewhere, I hardly touch it, and best interaction you get from it is when I change settings or look at it—which is one of its fortes: the look. It looks nice, the material does not look like it is a dust magnet and it has a functional night light, which works perfect for the bedroom.
The controls are simple. It does not have a lot of frills to it—it is straightforward. I did not even need to read the manual to understand the icons and how the buttons function. Press continuously for the functions to roll, icons are easily recognizable and the light is straight feedback that tells me what the setting is and what I have done. Indicators are pretty clear, like I know what setting is on, plus there is a child lock to the settings—a setting that most air purifiers I know have overlooked. And not to mention the filter replacement notification, which comes in very handy as always.
Most of all, when I forget where I have placed the manual because I probably just left this at a corner to run forever, I do not have to figure it out again—because, seriously, it is made so simple, it’s like it fits my lifestyle (meaning how I use air purifiers).
This air purifier does its job. This is one of those appliances we have that we just trust is doing its job. It does it for me. I know it cleans and I know I can rely on it to make it work for me at any time without me having to spend so much time on it. This is how appliances are supposed to be made—the right amount of flexibility and ease to match how we live with it. This is what great design is like!

Love racing games again
on January 27, 2022
Posted by: DarR
from Los Angeles CA
I moved away from pure racing games because games like GTA 5 gave me the balance of driving and open world exploration. Using a regular controller to drive Gran Turismo or GTA so there was not much of an experience difference and the games are focused on what car I drive or the mods I put in the cars. However, if you are a frustrated racecar driver like me, the controller pad is just not doing you right. A real racing wheel controller gives real justice to these racing games. This Thrustmaster racing wheel reminded me why I love driving in the first place.
First, the set up. The wheel is well-built. The feel of the wheel and the stability of the base is very real. It is very sturdy and the supporting components are solid. It is plug and play --instructions are a little tricky. My racing wheel was not recognized right away—it was going to the PC settings but once I figured out what buttons to press, it connected to my PS4 Pro easily. It’s not difficult, something that is just not written on the manual. Now the wheel definitely needs a sturdy base—like an actual table at least and the pedals have to be secure so they don’t roll when you step on it. For the ones who are more prepared for this like enthusiasts, I am sure it won’t be a problem. For me, having one for the first time, I just needed a secure desk and a floor stopper to keep the pedals in place. Luckily, my first set up was just on the TV console itself—pulled back of course so my 90 inch TV is not screaming at me.
The manual was not easy enough, to help me navigate through customizations, but I just tinkered with it and you cannot go wrong on the buttons and options. I put on some Need for Speed, changed the view to first person and it blew me away. The steering responsiveness is insane. The pull of the wheel when I am drifting, the feedback when the wheels are burning out, the resistance when you are fast around curves, are accurate. Even the speed as you step down on the pedal is the right amount of throttle. I really felt like I was on the road. Heck, muscle memory even forced my hands to go for the turn signal (which it does not have)—only because that’s how real it felt. I put on Dirt 5, and the steering settings are different too—because I was now driving on dirt—so I can really feel the sliding and the movement of the steering wheel as I am drifting. The steering precision—seriously—you cannot replicate that on a regular controller. Then the steering wheel display is pretty cool too—speed, RPM—in sync with what you see on the TV screen.
I don’t even know why I have not gotten these before. I think I missed out on a lot. I am glad this Thrustmaster opened my eyes to what I have been missing. Thank heavens (and this steering wheel) for being able to mimic the driving experience at the comfort of my own living room. Everyone’s on hybrid work-from-home and gas prices are high. But this—does not make me miss going out for a drive.

Can this run fortnite in epic settings

yes it can. it did have some occasional hiccups on mine though-- i have an 7th gen i5, 16gb memory and a 1050ti. the hiccups was not bad but it is noticeable. if you have better specs than mine, i'm sure it will be great.
