I use this at work to provide some calm..

I ordered this less for streaming or gaming and more for the calming effect it seemed to have. I prefer my office to be more on the darker side. Due to some injuries sustained overseas, bright light isn’t really my friend, but I need some light in order to do my job. I have natural light coming in from a couple of windows but it’s still a little too bright for me.
This light, for my purposes, i’ll call it a lamp works great. It has several colors to choose from and varying levels of brightness. You can actually display two separate colors at the same time. The light on the bottom can only be daylight white, but you can adjust the lumens to make it less bright. The light on the top of the bar can change from blue, red, orange, rainbow and I think one or two other colors that escape me at the moment. These too can be adjusted for brightness levels.
It has become sort of a running joke in my office as I tend to change the lights with the mood I’m in. Blue or white, is soothing and relaxing. Orange means I’m borderline about to lose it and red, well, no one wants to see red. If you download and install the app, you can customize millions of color combinations to fit your needs.
While this is intended for streamers and those who make online video content, it serves a great purpose for me. I think it’s a pretty cool gadget and I would recommend it.

Something I didnt know that I needed

This is one of those devices that you never really know you need until you have it. I found probably about a dozen or so memory cards laying in my desk and had no clue what was on them. This works with micro-sd, SD and CF (compact flash) memory cards. The latter is about the slowest option, but were more common on some of the older, more expensive cameras. I have an Olympus E300 SLR that I cant seem to part with although there are better options on the market and this worked great with those CF cards.
Where this thing really shines for my personal use is that it has a USB-C connection. I connected this to my iPad Pro, went to the files folder and the drive showed up with all of the photos that were on the SD card I had inserted. This option cant be understated for me because I use my mobile devices significantly more than my desktop or even laptop and with the upcoming release of the new iPhone, I will get even more use out of this.
I am by no means a professional photographer, but I do like taking photos at family events and I have even begun to use my drone more frequently than I have in the past so this is a great utility for someone like me. If your usage is anything like mine, this will be a great accessory for you.

There's a lot of power in this little package

I've been using this for the past three days or so and I have to say that it has impressed me far more than I thought it would. I ordered this to replace a unit that I have in my office at work, not because I needed to but because of the reputation that JBL has for quality products. I also liked the sort of modern/retro look of this speaker.
It was very well packaged when I opened it up and had minimal documents inside of it which I prefer. Setup was as simple as plugging it in, downloading the app and pairing your device. I didnt get a chance to test the wifi connection because of the security protocols in my office, but I did pair it with my iPad Pro and iPhone and it works well. I do kind of wish it had a remote control, since that is what my previous device had, but I just turn use the volume buttons on my device to control it. A minor thing, so its not a deal breaker for me. Pairing was quick with the JBL One app and it took less than a minute to do.
As i said before, the look of it is more than appealing and gives me a retro sort of vibe, but the appearance is where retro stops. The sound quality of this little speaker is amazing. I appreciated having separate bass and treble controls on the top of it because although I have it placed on a credenza across the room of my 14' x 12' office, it definitely rocked. I really don't have to turn the volume up very much at all to get high quality sound. For reference, I typically have sports talk on in the mornings and then a variety of jazz, R&B and pop on in the afternoons to wrap up my day. It can't be understated how well this thing sounds. I was completely amazed by it and some of my colleagues were impressed by it.
I turned on one of my streaming video apps to see if there would be any lag between the voice on the screen and the audio playing and I am happy to report that there was none at all. This speaker is replacing a larger speaker that I have and this sounds twice as good as that one. All I can say is I this little speaker is amazing. Well built from quality materials, great sound and easy to setup and use. 10 out of 10 for me.

Awesome DIY security system

When I bought my house, an alarm system was one of the first things I purchased. Not because I live in a bad area, but because I wanted that sense of security. I contacted several alarm companies and settled on a popular company to set me up. The upfront cost gave me sticker shock and the contract along with the monthly fee made me wonder if I would need to sell my house in order to buy a home alarm system. Fast forward 15 years and the available offerings have changed dramatically. Gone are the days of long term contracts and expensive equipment and installation. Simply put…..SimpliSafe is the real deal.
I decided I would put this into one of my AirBnb’s to allow the renters and added sense of security since most are not from the area. I am a pretty technical person so I was able to figure out how to install this system pretty easily. It came with a ton of items to provide total security for the house. Glass break sensor, multiple cameras, door/window sensors and a key fob and key pad. Pretty basic installation, so pretty much anyone with some technical know how could install this. I like that there is an app to use with this as well as being able to use their website to update settings and add/delete users, arm/disarm your system as well as view installed cameras.
With the amount of customization you can do with this system and the cost, this is a one-stop shop for your home security.

My new favorite ear buds

Technics isn’t a brand that I am familiar with in regards to earbuds. I know them more for their home audio products than anything else. In fact, I have an old amplifier that I just replaced that was older than my kids. I've been using these exclusively since I got them to determine if they would ultimately replace my favorite fruit brand and so far, I've been extremely impressed with them. The features, ease of use, the app that allows me to customize the audio have shaped my opinion of these earbuds and wireless charging.
Pairing was quite simple and was standard compared to pretty much all of the earbuds that I own. You can use the app to pair them as well and it aids with the customization features as well. You can customize the audio levels as well as the noise cancelling features which I really appreciate. You can also customize the amount of ambient sound for each of the settings including the noise cancelling. I used these while I did some yard work and by comparison, these are about the best buds that I have. I wore them while using a riding mower (which is desperate need of a tune up), gas blower and gas string trimmer. There was a definitive difference in the amount of noise that I heard with these and I was more than impressed with them. Additionally, I didn’t find myself adjusting them or pushing them back in after sweating. I was extremely happy about that because I normally wear something with an ear hook so that they don’t fall out and get run over or lost in my yard.
Overall, these are an awesome set of earbuds and I would put them up against any of the major offerings that are currently available on the market.

Great remote, great features

I ordered this remote to replace the one that came with my TV and to try to minimize the number of remotes needed to operate it and the peripherals that are connected to it. I opened up the package and was headed to my battery drawer to find some AA or AAA batteries, when I remembered that it was rechargeable. This is by far one of my favorite features. It came with a USB-C cable, but no charging brick which was fine as I have plenty around the house. The batteries on these things always seem to go out at the most inopportune time and when you cant find any spare batteries. After plugging this up to let it charge for a few hours, I came back to set it up.
Setup was surprisingly simple. The box comes with a printout of codes and a one page, step by step guide to setting up your devices. There is a little bit of trial and error with this as there are multiple codes that can be used for each device. If you try to program one code and it doesnt work, just try the next one. I didnt have any issues with not finding a code for all of my devices. If you do have a problem finding the code, there is an auto search feature, but I didnt need to try it.
There are macro keys that are very useful as well. There are presets for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and Disney. I really like the backlight keypad as well. Definitely a great feature for my usage. Now only if it had some sort of tracker for those times that my kids leave the remote in some far corner of the house, it would be the perfect remote. Jokes aside, this is an awesome remote and it has more than fit my needs so far.

Well thought out and quality scanning

I have quite a few products from Epson including printers and document scanners and this one is actually a welcome addition. The other scanners that I have are used primarily for business purposes in order to keep track of receipts, backup invoices and other important documents. I even have their portable ES-50 scanner that my wife and I use for lease agreements and other documents while we are away from our home office.
This scanner will serve an entirely different purpose for my household than my other ones. I have school aged kids who get the benefit of growing up in an age where they no longer need Encyclopedia's or the knowledge of how to use the Dewey Decimal System to find things in the library in order to complete an assignment. Now they have the internet and digital devices that make doing homework much easier than when I was a kid. My kids have to assignments that are to be submitted electronically. Some of the projects that they do have to have visual aids that need to be inputted into presentations and the like.
That's where this scanner comes in. A flatbed scanner is much more user friendly than a document scanner. I scanned in several photos and even some clippings from the newspaper (yes, I still prefer printed paper, lol) and the resolution was great and the speed was fast. You have the option of selecting format type if you need to save as a photo, pdf, etc. You can also change the resolution as well. If you prefer a more quality image, you want a higher resolution or DPI. If you need to save some quickly and quality isnt as big of an issue, then you can use a lower resolution.
Two of my favorite features are the USB power versus having a large charging brick and the top that adjusts to allow scanning of thicker items such as scanning a page from a book or magazine. I was surprised to see that it uses a micro-usb cable as opposed to USB-c though. It also has an arm or extension underneath so that you can stand the scanner up vertically to save some space on your desktop. In this position, i found the scanner to be pretty sturdy and didnt move at all when using it. The one thing I was hoping for is that it would work with my tablet using and apater, but unfortunately it didnt. So for anyone wanting to use it for that purpose, it didnt work for me.
Overall, I really like this scanner and I'm confident I will put it to good use. I would recommend this

As someone with a household of electronics and am constantly looking for charging bricks and available outlets, this is something that I looked forward to trying this to see if it would help reduce some of the cables and cords running from here to there to each outlet. We have laptops, video gaming systems, smart devices, etc, etc and it can be a bit of a challenge to keep track of all of the peripherals needed for each one. With three sons, two of which are pre-teens, fighting for this cord and that cable and then the outlets nearest to where they are sitting. Quite the battle royale at times in my house.
This surge protector takes up both spots in your wall outlet, so be aware of that. You also want to make sure that you dont plug it into any switch controlled outlets unless you want them controlled by the switch. One thing to note is that you will need to remove your wall plate and screw this into the outlet directly. I thought I could just remove the screw from the surge protector, but it doesnt come out. Not a big deal overall, but you should know that this isn't just something you plug into the outlet.
I really like that the outlets swivel which allows for different sized plugs to be used with this surge protector. Once you've plugged in into the outlet, the lights at the bottom come on to let you you know the outlet is protected and grounded. In addition to the four outlets, it has three usb ports (2 USB-A and 1 USB-C) for plugging a device into the surge protector without the need for a charging brick. The USB's produce 45W of total output, so you can easily charge three phones or a combination of phones and tablets. If you only use the USB-C port, then you will get the full 45w of charging power.
So far, I'm very happy with this surge protector. It works will and I actually prefer this plug in the wall type versus one that has a long cord that I normally try to hide behind the couch. This is more functional for me. I definitely recommend this product.

Great laptop in a small package. I am impressed...

In my household, I cant have enough laptops. I have two middle school aged kids, a toddler and four adults. We also run a small business that requires having devices that are both portable and durable. This fits the bill for us. To say i am impressed by it's performance would be an understatement. Even the unboxing proved to be an experience for me that I was not expecting.
When this was finally delivered and I sat down to open the box, it was impressive. I took some photos of the actual unboxing of this laptop. It was well packed, well presented and was just the start to the experience I've had in using this laptop.
Once I opened it up and let it fully charge, I did the initial setup and then began downloading apps so that I can actually test the capabilities of this laptop. This thing is so powerful for such a compact laptop that I was really shocked by the performance of it. It's fast, doesnt overheat and the battery lasts for hours. The thing that probably surprised me the most is the audio of this thing. I played several different types of music after downloading my audio apps and for a little laptop, the sound was amazing. I dont say that lightly. It was incredibly loud and I didnt experience any distortion. I played with the different settings until I found the one I liked best.
This only has two inputs, both of which are Thunderbolt 4, so that is something to keep in mind if you normally connect a lot of peripherals to your laptops. There are many hubs on the market for reasonable prices that will give you more connectivity, so I wouldn’t let that dissuade you if its an issue. If I had one partial negative about this is the trackpad. Most laptops have a defined area for the trackpad, but this one is basically “embedded” into it. It took me some trial and error to really get the feel of how to use it, but I think it is worth mentioning.
This thing is sleek, slim, ultraportable and very powerful for such a small device. I think Dell hit it on the head with this one and I would definitely recommend it.

Very easy to setup. Waze doesnt turn off though

I am a huge Apple guy and when I finally bought a vehicle that included Apple CarPlay, I was a little disappointed to discover it didnt have wireless CarPlay. Minor thing in the overall scheme of things, but it was something I appreciated after having rented vehicles for work that have the feature. I was pretty resigned to the fact that it was going to be wired CarPlay for me until I decide to get rid of my 2019 Ram for a newer model. Being that my truck barely has 30k miles on it, that isnt likely to be anytime soon. Then I saw this adapter, from a company that I only knew made dash cameras, I decided to give it a spin.
Setup was extremely easy and only took a couple of minutes. I did have to unpair my phone from my truck and then to the adapter, but this wasnt a big deal. There is about a 3-5 second delay after turning on my truck until the adapter "engages" CarPlay, which is pretty fast in my opinion. All of the functions and features work just like it was the factory setup. The screen can be customized to add or remove apps, display settings, etc. Do remember that if you are connected via the adapter and then you plug your phone into a USB port that supports CarPlay, you will be prompted to disconnect and in some cases, it disconnected for me. Now that I have this adapter, instead of plugging my phone into a port, I use sit it in the wireless charger that's built into my truck. It doesnt charge as fast wirelessly and between the charger and the adapter, my phone gets pretty hot. When that happens, I disconnect the wireless adapter and just plug into the CarPlay port. One thing to remember about this device is that you must already have CarPlay built into your vehicle. This adapter just enables wireless CarPlay as opposed to needing the USB port to use it.
The only complaint that I have about this adapter is that it automatically turns on Waze for navigation when it connects, but it doesnt disconnect automatically when I turn off my vehicle. If I forget to close out the app, it will remain on and drains the battery. I dont know if this is common for CarPlay adapters, but it is something that I just have to remember to shut off. Other than that, it is a great device and is pretty easy to hide in my vehicle so that it's not in the way.

how bright is this?
The brightness is adjustable. It can give off light equivalent to a standard 60 watt bulb (default) but with the app, you can make the light brighter. If I remember correctly, its about 2400 lumens. For example, a 60 watt bulb is about 750-850 lumens.

What are installation instructions & wiring requirements?
You will need to have a "C" wire in order to use this. If you do not have one, there are additional instructions on how to wire it and it includes the wire you can use to jump it in your thermostat. If you have minor DIY skills, you should have no problem with the installation.

When I call someone they cannot hear me on the other end how do I fix this
I had that problem too initially, but I took the phone out and re-installed the phone into the case paying careful attention to making sure that the volume/vibrate button was installed correctly in the slot. Once i did that, the mic must have lined up the way it was supposed to and I havent had any problems since. Hope that helps.
