Perfect between razor shaves
on April 25, 2024
Posted by: TechFan
As someone who served in the military, I was required to shave on a daily basis. There are very few things worse than dragging a sharp object across your skin on a daily basis. I primarily used a triple edge razor blade and it cut pretty well, but always left bumps on my skin and in-grown hairs. I tried this type of shaver many years ago and didn’t remember how well it cut, so I decided to try this one. This shaver is very durable and can be used wet or dry. Ive used it both ways and prefer using it on a wet face. I haven’t used any shaving cream or anything, which may actually get me a closer, cleaner shave.
It feels really good against my skin, but it doesn’t cut super close, so it wont replace my razor, but it does clean up my beard and neck area well enough to give me 2-3 days in between shaves. Sometimes, I hate getting out all of the stuff I need to shave with and this allows for a quick clean-up/line-up and then I’m out the door. There is a flip-up shaver that is used for lining up your mustache, beard or goatee. Its not extremely sharp, but it does the trick. The battery life seems to be good, but since I don’t use it daily, your mileage may vary. Overall, this is a good shaver from a recognizable brand and does what it’s intended to do.

I'm a big fan of Logi products
on April 25, 2024
Posted by: TechFan
I consider myself to be a tech savvy person and I almost always want to have the latest, greatest items. When I was first introduced to Logi (Logitech back then) products, I became an instant fan. Their products are always made with quality materials, well-developed and has great features. I have had no less than 10 wireless keyboards and mice along with countless cases for my iPads over the years and Logi has yet to disappoint me. This keyboard is no different.
First of all, it's very sleek, has good weight to it. Very well built and comfortable to use for extended periods of time. Next, the battery life on this one continues to impress just like previous models. When I took it out of the box, I put the batteries in it and turned it on. This was about a week ago and I use it nearly non-stop for 8-10 hrs per day. It advertises 36 months of battery life, but that of course varies by usage. I wish it was rechargeable instead of AAA batteries, but this more of a lower end model by them, but still packs a ton of features. By far my favorite feature is the ability to connect multiple devices and switch between them at the touch of a button. If i remember correctly, most of my other keyboards have that same feature and it works great for switching between my work laptop, mac device or using it with my Apple TV.
If you download and install the software, you open up a full set of customization options for the keyboard. You can set up your keyboard to work with two devices and can cut and paste between the two. I am not able to install the software on my work laptop so that limits some of the functionality there, but for my personal windows and mac computers, it works flawlessly. If i had one suggestion, it would be to store the included USB receiver in another part of the box. I nearly threw it away because it was stored right at the bottom of the box and I didn't notice it right away. That is pretty minor, but just something to look out for. Other than that, I love this thing.

Maintain precise control over your iPad with the Insignia NS-TS3AIEW24 Active Stylus for iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini. This stylus functions just like your Apple Pencil, using its precise tip to target individual pixels. Tilt to adjust your line thickness when drawing, just like an actual pencil. It also features magnetic support with compatible models, letting you easily locate your stylus each time. Double tap the tail end of the stylus to turn it on or off, helping you to conserve battery life. An included USB-C cable charges your stylus in as little as 30 minutes, letting you get back to using your iPad as quick as possible. Don’t get caught off-guard without a working stylus – purchase this well-functioning and budget-friendly alternative to the Apple Pencil, today.

Great as a backup or primary pen if its your first
on April 4, 2024
Posted by: TechFan
I'm constantly losing my OEM Pencil and it drives me crazy, so I ordered this one to have as a backup for those occasions. I can honestly say that it is definitely a good investment. This thing just works. It doesn't have all of the features of the OEM, but for standard use, most people will be more than satisfied with this pencil and for a fraction of the cost.
I primarily use mine for taking meeting notes and creating floor plans for my rental properties. Having a pen to take notes saves me so much time and having them digitally stored is huge. I used to carry a pen and pad everywhere I go, but if I lost the pad or the notes, it was a problem. This solves that problem completely.
As I said previously, some of the features of the OEM model. You won't be able to charge the pen using your iPad, but it does come with a USB-C cable that you can plug into a port or charging brick to do so. This is a minor inconvenience, but since it does charge via USB-C and because I carry that cable for my iPad, it hasn't been a problem for me. The only other feature that I know doesn't work is the pressure sensitive feature. That is not a big deal to me since I do more writing than drawing, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
The only minor issues I have is that the instructions don't really tell you how to pair the device. It does say to click the top of the pencil twice to turn it on. I also would like for it to let me know the battery life like most other Bluetooth accessories, but I don't see that on mine. Those are pretty minor things, so I still give it five stars for its price, functionality and ease of use.

Im really liking this brand
on March 10, 2024

I’ve been creating my smart home for probably more than 4-5 years now and one my main problems is finding devices that play well with Apple Homekit. Most products either don’t work or are extremely pricey. As such, I tend to get items that are compatible with Alexa and hope that one day all devices will play together.
I have a video doorbell on the front door already, so I wanted something for my back patio. Since the door isn’t wired for a doorbell, I knew I had to go wireless and still wanted something that could connect to HomeKit and Alexa. I saw the specs on this one and thought it fit the bill and has a ton of features that I would assume other brands would charge me for. This includes 7 days of free cloud storage and can accept up to a 512gb microSD card for even more storage. The SD card is stored in the speaker which makes it inaccessible to someone who might want to steal the doorbell. Facial recognition for up to 30 people with custom automations that can be enabled for each family member or for unknown faces. You can program ringtones and change the voice heard by others when the doorbell is pressed. All great features.
This doorbell is pretty well built and a good nice. Not too big and not too small. Everything you need to install this comes in the box, including batteries for a non-wired setup. The system only works on the 2.4ghz network, so that is kind of a bummer, but it will do. All in all, I really like the style of this doorbell camera and feature set. I would like to see a white option, but that is just personal preference. I don’t think you can go wrong with this doorbell.

Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 uses cutting-edge millimeter-wave radar technology, which can accurately detect the presence of people even with slight movements. This technology ensures continuity and stability of the smart device. It also has the function of zone positioning, which allows for the automation of different conditions in different zones, such as beds and tables. One space can now be divided into up to 30 small zones and recognize up to five targets (Multi-person Detection). It can also control other smart home devices through ecosystems such as Apple Home to achieve wider applications. It features functions such as human fall recognition, sleep monitoring and a built-in light sensor. Likewise, it is a great helper that can truly combine the diversity of the user's home life and realize the automation of different personalities.

Works great, sets up very easily

I’ve been creating my smart home for probably more than 4-5 years now and one my main problems is finding devices that play well with Apple Homekit. Most products either don’t work or are extremely pricey. As such, I tend to get items that are compatible with Alexa and hope that one day all devices will play together. When I saw that Aqara made a sensor that works with all of the major smart devices, I was excited to give it a try.
This sensor was pretty easy to setup and get running. I downloaded the Aqara app, followed the instructions and in less than ten minutes, I had it added to HomeKit and was testing out automations and setting. I have a smart bulb in my basement office, so I programmed the sensor to activate the light once movement was sensed. It worked perfectly without fail.
The light sensor was something that I didn’t really think I would use, but I can see the benefit of putting it in the rooms where my wife and kids tend to leave the lights on. I didn’t want to install smart switches in my entire home due to the cost, but using this I can at least try to explain to my wife why the electric bill is so high. Maybe then she will believe that the smarthome devices aren’t the major problem and that she and the kids are. Doubtful, but I’m optimistic.
I’ll probably end up putting this in my kids game room so that I can finally convince them that I know every time they go in that room to play video games. Realistically, I can already tell that, but it’s more fun with something like this. I’ll eventually come up with some other automations once I get it to it’s final destination, but for now, I’ll use it to have a little fun with my kids.

Great product from a really good brand

Most products either don’t work or are extremely pricey. As such, I tend to get items that are compatible with Alexa and hope that one day all devices will play together.
I just received a few of Aqara’s products and this is one that I was most excited to get. I have smart locks on my front and back doors, but I wanted one to put on my garage entry door. The problem is that my kids tend to forget their codes, lose keys and the like, so being able to use their fingerprints was something I thought would work better. The lock stores up to 50 fingerprints and also works with Apple Home and Home Key which allows me to open the lock with my iPhone or Apple Watch and they also include a couple of NFC tags that will probably be used by my wife and I as backups in case we don’t have our phones or if we “mis-remember” our key codes.
Installation is pretty simple and not much unlike any other standard lock. The only difference that I liked was the backplate that you use to install the keypad. Most locks require you to hold the keypad while you install the back lock panel while also trying to put in the screws. The mounting backplate is then used to connect the interior lock to the door and then you’re done. Simple.
There are some other great features as well. Such as temporary passwords, that can be programmed for a set duration. The lock can be set to automatically lock after a set period of time as well which is a great feature and will keep me from having to continue doing security check every night before I go to bed. To be honest, I’m still going to do that, but hey it’s a habit.
This lock looks great, definitely has a modern vibe to it and is an awesome addition to my smarthome setup. I highly recommend this product and this brand.

Great color, easy setup, lots of ports
on January 14, 2024
Posted by: TechFan
I ordered to replace an older unit that I’ve had for a while that wasn’t really ideal for gaming. The color on this is miles apart from my existing unit. You can fully customize the display with several presets already loaded. I like the option with the more bluish screen because it doesnt hurt your eyes as much with extended game play.
There are multiple connections including HDMI and DVI for inputs. I like that the height is very adjustable to fit your setup. I have my monitors sitting on a raised platform on my desktop and it was easy to match the height of my other monitor. There are also USB inputs under the left side of the monitor that can be used for charging other devices and I think as a USB hub.
The monitor is very lightweight and easy to setup. Setup is not unlike other monitors on the market, so it shouldn’t be difficult at all. I’ve played several high res PC games on it and the refresh rate makes game play so much better. That should not be an underrated feature of this monitor.
So far I am extremely happy with this monitor and would highly recommend it.

Love this controller
on December 30, 2023
Posted by: TechFan
My son and I love to play Xbox, although admittedly I miss the old Tecmo Bowl on the Nintendo, but I digress. This is by the far the most advanced controller that either of us have used and since I outrank him, i usually play with it while we are battling each other in Madden 24.
This controller is programmable, has long wireless life and is pretty cool to look at overall. It does tend to get a bit warm after extended play, but its not too bad. I never thought i would care to have the ability to connect a headset to a controller, but when his headset needs to be charged, i can plug in some earbuds and he can continue playing while allowing me some peace and quiet....at least generally speaking.
The lighting can be customized and set up with a bunch of different combinations, but that will drain the battery faster, but there is a notification that will pop up to notify you that the controller needs to be charged.
To be honest, I haven’t even touched the surface on the customizations you can create with this controller, but it is definitely work giving it a try. I don’t think there is currently a better, more customizable controller on the market right now for the Xbox.
I would definitely recommend this controller.

Took some time, but I got everything to work well
on December 30, 2023
Posted by: TechFan
This is the third TP-Link setup that I’ve had over the last several years. The first was the M4, followed by the AX4300 and now this one. This setup by far has the best potential of the three, but initiallly it hasn’t been that reliable for me. I truly have a love/hate relationship with this system. I love it when it’s working consistently, and I hate that it doesn’t work consistently.
I’ve had this for a few weeks now and really took my time evaluating its performance before writing this review. When I ordered it, I couldn’t wait to get it for two primary reasons. The first being the speed/future proof of this setup. The second is that it is backwards compatible with my existing M4 setup. This meant that I didn’t have to install a whole new network and then go about the tedious process of adding all of my nearly 100 devices to it. In order to save myself that agony, I added the BE16000 to my existing network. The directions to do so were very simple and easy to follow using the app. Once you identify your new and existing systems, it tells you which device should be the main one. The app said to use the new BE16000 as the main. After doing that, the network map was updated in the app and I can see how many devices are connected to each satellite.
Since I set this up, the speeds have increased dramatically over the M4’s speeds, but the continuity wasn’t there. I got a lot of lagging and devices dropping connections. To tell you that I have been more than frustrated with this thing is an understatement. Right before I sat down to finish writing my review, I decided I should reach out to their online support and much to my surprise, my issues seem to be resolved. The agent instructed me to disable beamforming and fast roaming and to change the primary and secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 respectively. I’ve been monitoring my network activity for about an hour up to this point, all things seem to work as expected.
I was initially going to give this three stars because of all of the problems that I had getting things up and running. However, after using the online support and getting my connection issues resolved, I feel more comfortable giving 4 stars right now. I am optimistic that my issues are resolved and that I will get faster speeds overall and eventually remove the M4 units and just use the BE16000’s as they provide coverage for up to 9,500 square feet.
Some key points:
App: Intuitive and very user friendly way to manage your network. I get alerts to tell me when a new device is added and that allows me to name that device so that I can identify it later, change the settings or delete it altogether. There is a built-in speed test that allows you to check your network speeds and auto updates.
Advanced Parental Controls are now an upgraded feature. They were free using my M4 system, but now has an annual cost of $18. With the upgraded controls you can create user profiles and place devices within that profile (up to 32 devices per profile) and within that you can control usage time, restrict websites, and even block certain video types on YouTube. All great features. Realistically, the cost is minimal overall, but I was disappointed that they now require a monthly or annual subscription.

Support: I went through the app troubleshooting and tried the different options to resolve my issue before finally contacting support on the TP-Link website. I was able to get my issue resolved within about a half hour of troubleshooting tips with the online agent. I normally don’t like to use chats to resolve my issues because of the delayed response times, but I was able to get things corrected pretty quickly and so far, pretty happy with the results.
Mesh units: I really like that all of the nodes have 4 ethernet inputs on them. This allows me to plug in some devices directly as opposed to having everything on the actual WiFi network.
Device overall: Wifi 7 capable, you can create multiple networks for guests, IOT, 6ghz and an MLO which connects 2.4, 5 and 6ghz networks. Easy device management.

Solid case, could use a few improvements
on December 6, 2023
Posted by: TechFan
I've never been someone who bought or used a wallet case attached to my phone. I always worried about the case falling off of my phone or the cards slipping out of the wallet. When I received this one, it looked sturdy enough and as long as I put at least three cards in the wallet, it seems to work well. The design is simple and I like that they cards slide in from the side as opposed to the top. There is a little cutout that is used to push the cards through.
The wallet itself has a very soft feel to it, but it is also well made and doesn’t hold a lot of fingerprints on it. The Magsafe part of the wallet connects very well and has a strong hold against my phone. To my surprise, it worked well. I’ve never had the wallet fall off of my phone, nor have I had any of the cards slip out. I purposely picked the smaller iPhone 15 Pro over the Max version because I typically carry my phone in my pocket and the smaller phone just feels more comfortable to me. The only complaint I really have is that the bottom part of the wallet that lines up with the case that is designed to keep the wallet from moving, is somewhat difficult to line up at times. I don’t always use the wallet, particularly when I’m charging it wirelessly, so it would be nice for it to connect more easily.
Im sure the intent is to keep the case small and less bulky, but it would be nicer if it were a bit larger and include something like a spring-loaded clamp or something that would allow me to carry fewer cards and still maintain them securely.

The brightness is adjustable. It can give off light equivalent to a standard 60 watt bulb (default) but with the app, you can make the light brighter. If I remember correctly, its about 2400 lumens. For example, a 60 watt bulb is about 750-850 lumens.

Once i did that, the mic must have lined up the way it was supposed to and I havent had any problems since. Hope that helps.
