WD My Cloud Home 2TB
The idea of this device is to provide an alternative storage location for your files, photos, videos, etc. You can access these saved files on a smartphone or computer from anywhere using an internet connection. This can come in handy when you need access to your desktop computer files or want to show/share large videos that might be too big to save onto your smartphone. For example, download the My Cloud app onto a smartphone and you get access to everything that has been stored onto the My Cloud Home device. There is also a desktop app and a browser page where you can drag and drop files/folder that you want to be stored onto the Home drive. The service also lets you share specific files with other recipients without them seeing all of your other data that is stored onto the cloud.
The setup of the My Cloud Home system is pretty simple. Use the included cable and plug it directly into an open port on your WIFI router. Then you go to a specified website to sign up and download the program. Once installed on a PC, you just have to right click on the specified folders/files you want to be sent to the cloud and select ‘Sync to My Cloud’.
On my newer computer with top specs, I did notice a slowdown while syncing all of my photo/video files to the system. My disk usage was constantly near or at 100%. I think it has to do with the WD Discovery app that was downloaded to perform the backups. It is listed as ‘wdsync’ in the task manager. Hopefully this will go down once all the files are synced.
Overall, it’s a nice system if you need to create a PC backup or save and share your files across all devices.

PROS:
*Very compact and space saving. Measures within an area of about 1 square foot with output tray closed.

REVIEW:
After unboxing, the first thing I noticed is that it is very compact and can easily sit on a work desk without getting in the way. I was expecting it to be big and bulky. Regarding the hardware, out of the box you just have to attach the feeder tray and pull out the catch tray. The paper catch tray retracts into the scanner to save even more space when not in use. Before using, you are supposed to install the software via the included CD but my new computer does not have an optical drive. Instead, I had to search on the Epson website and download the specific drivers instead. Once the program is installed, you will see different variable options to select based on your scan preferences. For example, I scanned a text document while using ‘text enhancement’ and the words are more vibrant, darker and crisper versus having that setting turned off. There are also other features that can be tweaked depending on your style of scan. I also downloaded the Epson scan OCR component from the Epson website to allow for creating searchable documents and it works quite well.

Documents scanning is quick. It takes a few seconds to perform basic single sided scans and about 7 seconds for a double-sided high-quality image like an 8.5x11 photo sheet. By comparison, I timed a 600dpi scan on my multifunction print/copy/scanner and it took about 60 seconds to complete one side. To be honest, the quality of a scanned photo from my basic multifunction is a bit better although much slower. I tested different options with the Epson scanner to try and recreate the same image quality as best as I could but it didn’t come out any better than the cheaper multifunction machine. The Epson is advertised as a document scanner and not a photo scanner. If this machine is meant for business, scanning photos may just be an afterthought anyway. I had no issue with the quality when scanning work documents.
Based on the price, I believe this scanner is meant more for an office environment where you constantly need to scan documents, bills, business cards, images, etc. to be stored on a computer. Although it can be used at home if you need basic image scans or searchable documentation, I don’t know if this machine is worth it for the occasional scan. However, from the time I have been using it, it is a very durable and handy scanner.

This is my first time using a universal device remote, so some of you reading this may already be familiar with their features. For those that are new to this, I will give you my honest opinion. Before getting the Harmony 665, I was juggling 3 remotes for my current devices in my entertainment center (LG HDTV, Sony HT-RT5 surround sound system, and a Roku Premiere+). It was always a chore whenever I wanted to either turn on Roku or simply watch TV with the surround sound system as to what buttons I had to select on each remote. It was quite a process until I linked up all 3 remotes into the Harmony 665.
The first step is to download the MyHarmony program where you can set up the remote. There are many options within the program to allow for a lot of tweaks and customization. It is time consuming but not too difficult to set up everything the way you want it.
Not only are all remotes consolidated into this one remote, but within the PC settings you can set up 'activities' to sync to the Harmony. These 'activities' are basically setting up multiple command lines that will automatically perform a series of button presses. All you have to do is press ONE button on the remote to initiate it. For example, I have an 'activity' that will turn on the TV, select the appropriate HDMI output, turn on the surround sound, and turn down the TV volume so it doesn't "echo" with the surround sound system. I have since set up multiple 'activities' to make everything streamlined and easy for my family.
Overall, I am enjoying having to deal with only 1 remote and I would recommend this to others.

Good surround sound system

I had been using a Kenwood 5.1 surround sound system for the past 15+ years before getting this Sony system. I am not a 'sound expert' but the quality is pretty good from these wireless speakers. Honestly, the list price of $600 seems a bit steep when compared to other surround systems out there but I think you are paying for the Sony brand. I got it for $250 as a 'deal of the day' and it is definitely worth that price. As other have stated, do not use the 'auto calibration' since it doesnt seem to set it at the loudest setting and instead set up it up manually in the setting menu to get a more refined/louder sound.

The Honor 8 is a top of the line smartphone at a midlevel price. I actually think this is a better phone in both quality and price when compared to the likes of a Samsung Galaxy s7 or iPhone 6s. I used to be an Apple supporter but recently switched to android products because I feel Apple software is no longer current and bland. For half the cost of the competitors, you get an equal, if not better, smartphone. It runs fast even with multiple apps open at once and the build quality is top notch. For those interested in the feature, it has an IR transmitter to control TV's and appliances. It is also equipped with a dual lens camera that provides adequate photos. I highly recommend this phone for those with a lower budget or simply do not see a purpose in spending $800 for a phone when you can get the same quality for more than half the price. The one drawback I have has to do with the glass back. It may be pretty, but it is very slippery and can slide off of a slightly slanted table or couch armrest. So, be cautious of where you set it down. However, most smartphone owners seem to buy cases anyway and it may eliminate this issue, but I like to go without the case due to the extra bulk. Overall, this is a great phone and I hope it gains traction in the US for future support.

Yes, you can use Chromecast. However, I have the Quest stream to my phone and then I have my phone streaming to my LG HDTV.

Does this come with a headset for the sound affects or do you have to buy it separately?
The sound comes from speakers built into the headset or you can plug in headphones also. The sound right out of the headset gives you virtual 360 sound, which is pretty cool.

It looks like you are a watching on a movie theater screen, but the quality is not 4K or anything near that. It is watchable though. Also YouTube VR videos are fun to watch.

This is a stand-alone VR. You do not need a PC, Xbox, PS4, etc to use it. It works all by itself.

It connects through WIFI. You can't stream videos without an internet connection, unless the movie is already installed on the Quest.
