15mph e-scooter

Age:>18
Gender:Male
Design: looks like a standard scooter. Handles screw in without any other locking mechanism, but feel solid and stable without any feeling of slippage during regular use. Charging port is located on the rear wheel area, but honestly could’ve been placed anywhere because the scooter folds up. Integrated kickstand that folds up when riding the scooter.
Features: can control the modes via a simple menu. Push the button to turn the scooter on/off, tap the button to cycle through speed modes. The lowest setting (blank window) averaged 7mph, the medium (blinking S) averaged 12-13 mph, and the sport mode (solid S) hit 15 mph. For reference, I weigh 160 lbs. there’s also a small headlight you can turn on/off as well for safety when you’re riding at night.
As stated above, the scooter comfortably hits 15 mph for my weight. Out of curiosity, I tried to take my friend but the motor couldn’t handle our combined weight of two adults. I was able to take my kinder-age son without any problems.
Fun little device to scoot around on, folds up in half so stores easily.
I would recommend this to a friend!

So convenient without the apple prices

Arrived just in time to test out with our new iPhone 13 pro. MagSafe connected easily with a snap, and as advertised, held the phone in place. So I could use the charger as a phone stand to watch movies. With the phone charger tilted out, the top of the canister can charge your AirPods case, reducing need for multiple chargers out at once.
Aesthetically, the soft white cylinder while closed looks sleek, like a speaker or something that belongs on the counter. Doesn’t take up too much room either. Comes with a usb-c cable and wall plug.
Looks good enough to fill Apple’s shoes without the Apple price tag. Very happy with Anker.

Excellent product from Jabra, again.
8 hours of battery life, increased to 30 if you count the extra charges from the case. Small form factor with snug grip that didn't fall out even during jumproping or going on runs. Sound quality was clear, but the EQ seemed to be a bit heavy on the treble spectrum. Electronica and bass-heavy beats sounded just fine, but trying to listen to Jack Johnson or folk - just sounded a bit off, for lack of better description. The case itself is the same color as the buds - black - and matte. Not rubberized, but didn't feel slick to touch. There aren't any noticeable grooves, latches, or buttons, but again, because the surface wasn't too slick, I didn't have any issues opening/closing the case.
Bottom line, I'm downright amazed at how comfortable these buds are. I had zero strain after keeping them in for several hours. I didn't test out call quality as in depth, because I primarily used them in the gym, meaning I wasn't really trying to make phone calls.

The SoloCam Solar Spotlight Cam is the latest in cutting-edge eufy Security battery cameras with an integrated solar panel. When it comes to security, the key is in the details. Consumers can see exactly what is happening around their home in crisp 2K clarity, detect humans that come into frame, and filter out false alerts with the built-in local AI technology. solar convenience with no monthly fees
on November 17, 2021

There are many things to love about this camera, so I'll start with the cons.
1. Storage is fixed and not upgradable. 8gb is onboard, and that's what you're stuck with.
2. Battery is also fixed and non-removable. If the battery dies, then the entire unit is hosed - you have to buy a brand new camera.
3. Short mount. This is probably an intentional design feature given how heavy the unit is, but I guess it's more of a mixed bag. The solar panel is integrated to the top of the unit, so with the mount being short, your options for placement of the camera are fairly limited. More on this to come.
With a separate solar panel + cord system, you can place the solar panel on your roof or off your gutter to get adequate sun exposure, while the camera is installed under your overhang or roof where there isn't much direct light. With this camera, because the solar panel is built onto the top of the camera, that means I couldn't install the camera under my patio. Furthermore, with treeline and neighbor's roof being tall, there were only a few spots in the back of my house where I could still get enough sunlight to make use of the solar charging. If you have an open layout with plenty of sunlight, then this won't be an issue for you, but for me, it was.
Other than those few cons, there really isn't much to dislike nor nitpick. The onboard AI is actually pretty smart in filtering out false alerts. The solar panel only requires 2 hours of direct sun to maintain charge. The app integrates seamlessly and everything can be controlled from my iPhone. No monthly usage fees. Image quality is a step up from 1080p as would be expected for the 2K label. Once you unbox, you just have to do the initial charge of the unit, then get it linked up. With my home wifi mesh network, I didn't have any connectivity issues at all with the camera.
All in all, a solid outdoor camera with just a few flaws.

sleek, lightning fast

Design is sleek and clean, with an off white "lunar white" exterior, with a contrasting black keyboard. Honeycomb grilles on rear for the fans, as well as a continued honeycomb pattern of vents on the keyboard maintain the look.
Typing this review on the X17, I do make a few mistakes here and there because the keys are slightly smaller than a full-size keyboard. Interestingly, I'm guessing because of the vent placement on the keyboard as shown in my photo, there's no NUM pad on the side. Which seems like a pretty sore miss for a 17" laptop. However, for what keys you do get, the CherryMX keys are tight and responsive. No mush on any key presses. Aside from the missing num pad, you'll also see with the keys illuminated, the secondary functions don't light up. It's not that big of a deal, as I'm not trying to do work in the dark, but still, for the price point and performance, I do wish every function lit up.
The footprint is slightly bigger than I would expect, especially given no num pad. However, the increased footprint does allow for what seems like better airflow than my other gaming laptops, as I don't end up scared I'll have second degree burns on my legs. Also, there's almost zero flex in the keyboard.
Performance-wise, the SSD is super fast, and the GeForce RTX 3070 consistently maintained >100 fps on both Witcher 3 and FFXV, although I did have all my other tabs/apps closed when playing.
All in all, a very nice looking laptop with high performance as to be expected carrying the Alienware name.

simple nearly plug and play camera
on October 20, 2021
Posted by: codeblue
from San Antonio
As many neighbors can attest, the rate of crime seems to be climbing in real time where we live. Lots and lots of porch pirates. So we have cameras set up, but we've been wanting to put up a wireless camera in our backyard for a while.
The Eufy L40 is a pretty self-contained unit, meaning no monthly costs, no additional equipment required, other than your phone. Set up was as simple as plugging it in and charging it overnight, downloading the Eufy app, and then following the prompts.
We do use Ring cameras around the front, but the motion detection isn't the greatest, with the light not triggering despite someone clearly walking along the action zone. With such a large area to cover in the back, image quality was something we specifically needed.
Mounting was a cinch, as the included little plastic guide gives you the drill bit size needed, as well as a template for where the screws will go. Line it up, drill the holes, and then install. Easy.
Motion sensing was surprisingly accurate, with only a very small number of false alarms. The spotlight is 600 lumens, and arranged as a ring around the outer edge of the camera. AI is supposed to learn and improve facial recognition as it goes forward.
Again, no monthly fees, and as close to plug and play as you can get. IP67 rated for outdoor use as well, for peace of mind.

lightning fast with self-adjusting scroll wheel
on October 13, 2021
Posted by: codeblue
from San Antonio
At this point, Razer has been in the game long enough where there are few basic assumptions I make, and Razer always fulfills:
1. the ergonomics are near perfect
2. performs really crisply in games
3. lights. lots of lights. with programmability using the Razer Synapse software
So, with that out of the way, what sets the Basilisk ver.3 apart from my other Razers (Adder, Death Adder, Mamba, Naga, etc)? Well, for one, there's no wireless option on the V3. That's probably the only negative I could come up with for the Basilisk V3. I never used the previous versions of the Basilisk, but this current iteration has a small square button below the 2 thumb buttons that slows the mouse sensitivity down - i.e. sniping mode. Worked really well in Overwatch. The button isn't removable, which means less chance of me bumping it off and losing it forever in my bag.
The sets-this-apart feature is definitely the scroll wheel. As I alluded to, I've got a lot of Razer peripherals, mice included. They all perform beautifully. Other than the Naga which is set up for MMO games, the rest all feel and fit pretty much the same in my hand. Basilisk is no different. So what's unique? The scroll wheel. It has a nice tactile scroll at slow speeds, but if you spin the wheel faster, the mouse automatically shifts to continuous mode, which allows for smooth scrolling through long webpages, excel rows, etc. Slow down, and the mouse switches back to the tactile mode. You can adjust the bar at which the mode switches, but for me, the default switch worked just fine. Which was great, because I could get in some game time, then go back to pivot tables in Excel for work without having to mess with a bunch of settings. This mouse did a great job covering both tasks.

optical switch, quieter, but not as crisp keys
on October 10, 2021
Posted by: codeblue
from San Antonio
If you're looking at a keyboard at this price point, I'm going to assume you are already aware of the company Razer and their overall products.
To summarize, Razer is probably the most well-known gaming peripheral company, and their reputation is backed by a strong consistent showing of quality products.
This Huntsman V2 is their minimized version with the 10 num pad. As some gamers for ergonomics will prefer to use a dedicated num pad that can be placed. So, to start off, the keyboard is probably a lot smaller than you're used to seeing for full size keyboards.
The 8000Hz refresh means the keyboard is checking for input at a ridiculous rate of 8000 times/sec. That pretty much means that your key clicks will be logged instantly, meaning less latency. Most gaming keyboards offer 4000Hz. So, to be honest, I didn't notice a difference from my other gaming keyboard, but I also don't play at an international competitive level.
The keys. I'm torn. I love mechanical keyboards, but sometimes that mechanical clicking can be really really loud. The V2 uses silicon dampeners to combat this. Effective at reducing noise. But the tradeoff is that the keypress feels "mushy" for lack of a better term. Definitely lose that crisp click/clack. So it does what it was intended, but I guess I'm not sure that I'm completely happy with the tradeoff. This is highly subjective, so depends on your preference, whether you prefer the tactile click with louder noise, or a softer press while losing the click.
The Razer software lets you control macros, color schemes on the lighting, lighting patterns, etc. It's really really robust.
As stated, the functionality is amazing, and in a very small footprint. The decision to be made is whether you want the mechanical click or a quieter press with softer travel.

Smart dumbbells that look normal
on October 1, 2021
Posted by: codeblue
from San Antonio
One of my first purchases when the lockdowns started was a set of B*wflex adjustable dumbbells, because I needed weights to keep my workouts going at home. They're probably the most well known, well recognized adjustable sets on the market, and for good reason. However, the connectors are unfortunately plastic, so if you tend to drop your weights on the ground after sets, they're prone to failure. Also, when you look at the rack, they scream "adjustable dumbbells" because the weight plates stick out like ridges of a pinecone unless you're maxed out.
The Jaxjox weights appear (pun intended) to be the future.
Looks: The weight plates are full circular, and they attach flatly when you increase weights. So there's no gaps between the plates. This allows the weight to be even, but also looks more solid during use. So basically, when sitting next to regular old dumbbells, you won't be able to tell a difference. Also, in line with other adjustable weights, they take up very very minimal footprint in my garage gym.
Adjustability: I'm mixed here. Part of the benefit of being fully manual is there are less parts to break. No circuitry to fail. My other brand dumbbells are dumb dumbbells, no electronics, so even if the power is out or whatnot, it doesn't affect use. With that being said, the Jaxjox weights adjust at the push of a button. You dial in the weight, and they automatically adjust. Super fast and easy.
App: wow. looks super sleek. you select your gender, weight, height, and fitness goals, and the app logs your progress. Multiple workouts to select from, and syncs to your weights via bluetooth.
Overall: super sleek space-saving weight set that looks like a regular dumbbell. The app does require a "premium" subscription to access the full features, but even the basic app is good enough for monitoring your progress.

32in 4k curved monitor great for gaming
on September 23, 2021
Posted by: codeblue
from San Antonio
This monitor is BIG. My desk isn't big enough to support using 2 monitors with this as part of the setup, but with 32 in and the curved screen, I actually haven't noticed a very big reduction in my workflow.
Unlike most monitors/peripherals, the HDMI and displayport cables are included in the box, which made setup a breeze.
165Hz refresh rate is blazing fast for gaming, and running RE Village and Biomutant are absolutely beautiful. The curve gives a natural view perspective and helped with immersion.
The only con I could find with this monitor for my needs is the input. The joystick toggle is actually located on the back of the monitor, which I'm assuming is because the thin bezels couldn't support placement of a toggle. However, given the size of the monitor, with my desk being the in the corner of the office, it's not the easiest to access the buttons. Thankfully the power button at least is readily accessible.
