Great start for Kong in Monsterverse

Off the bat:
If you're expecting anything remotely close to Peter Jackson's 2005 movie, you're probably going to end up disappointed. This isn't a movie interested in telling a great story, although it hits the mark if you confine it to "giant monster action movies". It's not even the same species as the Kong from PJ's retelling.
As a setup for the eventual crossover between Godzilla and Kong, Skull Island hits the marks, and in some ways, does so better than the recent Godzilla film. There's less downtime and more humor. (And, if you're a Chicago Cubs fan, there's several meta-jokes you'll get a kick out of, as well). The action is extremely satisfying, although I found the monster vs monster fighting (and original monsters,) of Godzilla to have the edge over Skull Island.
The cast is amazing; Samuel L Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman are all at their best, and John C Reilly is even better than the previews showed in his comic relief turn.
There's not a ton of originality here; you'll likely find that many of the scenes will have you recalling other films. At their worst, they come off as respectful homages, and at their best, as interesting takes on old films. (Everything from PJs Kong to Predator can be found throughout).
Where Godzilla and PJs Kong both require a timesink to appreciate the story, Skull Island comes across much more like Stephen Sommers' Mummy films: After viewing the movie once for the story, you can pop them in even when you're distracted as background noise to entertain between chores and still enjoy it all the same; and there's a place for these kinds of films- some of my favorite types.
All this said, there's one knock against it (personally,) and one high point left to mention.
If you've seen the previews, you've seen the "main baddies" (monster-wise) the Skullcrawlers. I found the design didn't ring with me that well. They just didn't bring the fear. If you found the design to your liking via the previews, there's no issue. Perhaps they'll grow on me, but they just seemed "meh".
On the high note of the Special Effects department, a tip of the hat to the EFX crew- Kong spends a ton of time in and around water, and the varying shots of Kong getting wet, water pouring off him, etc must have been a nightmare to pull off, yet the crew makes every shot involving Kong and water impressive.
Skull Island is a fun ride to take, and one that appropriately sets the stage for the upcoming battle with Godzilla.

Godzilla vs Kong? Yes, please!

Must buy for even the most passing Giant Monster fan.
Grew up on Godzilla, and with the new faceoff between the two behemoths coming, wanted to revisit this. Very little in the way of extras (barebones,) but at $5, being able to add it to my collection with the best picture quality available for the film, it was a no-brainer.
For value, this is a 5-star product; it's just the disappointment that there's no extras involved that kind of made me hesitant to slap a 5-star review on it.
The story is pretty typical for this era, with it being more about "how do we get these two together," rather than interest in good storytelling, but that's to be expected, and even somewhat appreciated. Don't ask too much of the story, you'll end up aggravated about Kong's love of electricity or how he grew to the necessary height.
It's a safe film, as well, nothing gruesome, no "cover the eyes" moments for young ones: so, if you have a little one who's wanting to get in on a parent's love of monsters, there's nothing here preventing it from being an early introduction.
Just one of those "fun" films that anyone with an interest in the two title characters should see once, and at the price it is, there's no reason not to just outright purchase it rather than hunt it down for rental.

Impressive remaster!

With 3 remasters in the package, Wipeout Omega Collection is an amazing value.
While 2 of the 3 are from last-gen PS3, Wipeout HD & Wipeout Fury, the final entry is from the handheld series, Wipeout 2049. 2049 shows off the largest difference, thanks to the bigger difference in format, all 3 have had a ton of love involved.
Everything has been upgraded; this is NOT a nostalgia cash-in for those of us who grew up with the Wipeout series from its earliest days on PSX. Beyond the visuals, the game(s) runs at 60fps, and the controls, always smooth, are even moreso now.
If you've never played Wipeout, you're in for a real treat. Atop including 3 games, with numerous tracks per game, each includes a plethora of vehicles to start, along with even more to unlock. Littered around the tracks are a variety of power ups to help you or hinder opponents, along with many boost pads that keep the pace at one of the fastest (still) in any racing series. Pulling off barrel rolls (always risky, as tracks that feature jumps aren't always very high jumps- timing is crucial,) will also grant your floating rocket a quick burst of speed.
But all this speed comes at a price. Vehicles all have shields; and attempting to use walls to bounce back from a loss of control will deduct from them. Opponents firing at you will also cause damage- lose your shields and your ship, you'll have to rerun the race.
Picking a favorite company to race for does not stick you with their vehicles, but that said, your best bet is to find a sponsor early that has a vehicle you can handle well. As you play, you'll earn loyalty points by the sponsor which, in turn, helps you unlock more vehicles from them. Constantly switching sponsors will delay getting into newer vehicles, but you're never "locked in". If a particular track gives you trouble, never hesitate to swap out, as each company seems to have a "set path" of expertise- (some may have health & shield as priorities, others as speed & handling, yet others may focus only in one area that gives a much higher bonus to just one category). If one track is giving you a hard time with turns that's costing you precious health due to many sharp winding turns, don't stop yourself from temporarily switching to a better handling/ shield combo.
There's a small learning curve: it's easy to pickup and play, and if you choose to just enjoy the game, you will. Vehicles are less "weighty," constantly bobbing (both due to the anti-grav nature of the game,) and tracks quickly progress from easing you in to the game to challenging your reflexes. If you choose to play Wipeout as fun, no worries- easy mode, and normal, later, remains more of a fun challenge. Yet the game allows for true mastery; watching those who devote efforts into it can produce dizzying runs of speed that's more akin to a well-choreographed speed ballet.
Just like the originals, split-screen is supported, as well as online racing. No skimping in that area, including a "race box" that allows you to host multiplayer online events with varying tracks and presets.
Wipeout is, without a doubt, one of the best racing series that ever hit Sony, if not in all of gaming. The slow dismissal of the series (Wipeout HD & Fury were never released physically, and hit early in PS3s lifespan,) was met with dismay by longtime fans; not due to nostalgia's sake where replaying it reminded you why it became outdated, but because it was easy to pickup, a challenge, fun even when runs went wrong, and breathtaking to behold when you had a perfect run.
Two final things:
They've included a fun photo mode that's becoming more and more standard now, but is still much appreciated, and lastly, if you're looking for a couch co-op game that's not something that requires tons of planning/ getting "stuck" playing longer than you intended, Wipeout is PERFECT. It's an incredible game to sit down with friends, some pizza, and some drinks while being able to end the game once your session begins to die down.
3 games, low price, high value, and not a cash-in on memories. Whether single player or multiplayer, Wipeout Omega Collection is yet ANOTHER win in the Sony exclusives.

Fantastic fun.

So, I'll begin thusly: I love first person shooters, but prefer them on PC. Still, I own lots on my consoles, as well, and due to my PC breaking down and a plethora of surgeries that left me unable to place my arm on a PC desk, even if it hadn't been broken, I chose to grab this on PS4 to help alleviate boredom.
For those who find aiming to be more precise on PC, Overwatch delivers a precision on console that is maybe only equaled by the Wolfenstein games, Titanfall 2, & the remake of Doom. Buttery smooth and responsive, you'll quickly be jumping into games and holding your own. (Aided by Blizzard's matchmaking system).
Overwatch hands over two dozen unique heroes, each with different strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, all falling within different categories (offense, defense, tank, support). These roles are often more fluid than in some other games, but learning to master the character, how s/he best fits within the group of 6 in your group, and on the map- is key.
Luckily, much like the classes are fluid, so is learning how to best be used is, as well.
And, if a hero is not working out for you within a group or map, you can switch the hero out after a death, as often as you'd like during a game.
And that's what truly allows Overwatch to live up to its hype, something I'm normally wary of, its as adaptable as you are.
That's not to say there isn't a "wrong way" to play with certain heroes- there is, but you'd almost have to intentionally be oblivious to head down that path.
There's a huge amount of rewards to keep customizing your heroes, and all heroes are unlocked from the get-go. There's nothing extra for leveling that makes the heroes better, so you needn't worry that entering Overwatch a year after release is going to end with you being massacred.
On the negative side, for those wanting any sort of single-player outside an initial tutorial, or even matches with bots taking the place of other players, you're out of luck. This isn't a deal breaker, but it's a huge shame. It's something Unreal Tournament had been doing two decades ago, and as practice for learning maps without the fear of disappointing teammates, it was an invaluable tool.
Outside of that, there's not much to harp on about Overwatch. It's incredibly fun, rewarding as you learn, and even has intense stat-tracking that focuses more on positives than negatives. The hype about this game was well-deserved.
Honestly, this may very well be only behind, maybe even slightly ahead of, Titanfall 2 as my favorite multiplayer shooter.

Wish we could do 1/2 stars, as I'd put this at a 4 1/2, rather than a 5. In this case, I'll round up, as it deserves it, because the positives outweigh the negatives.
Took my 4 year old to see this, and he enjoyed it so much we bought it the day it released for his birthday.
Overall, if you're looking for one that's more for the youngsters, the original Lego Movie seems to do a better job; not that Batman is bad in this sense, just more "universal" in that regard. Batman seems to fall just a slight notch below.
For the most part, Lego Batman nails it. There's humor for everyone; children and their parents, Batman fans, Lego fans, or just the average moviegoer looking for entertainment.
It's not without fault- there are rare moments of "let's get to the next joke," but these are far and few between.
If you enjoyed the Lego Movie, you might have the bar set just a touch too high- but odds are, you'll still find much to like with Lego Batman. Whereas Lego Movie seemed to sustain its momentum all the way through, you may have a few moments of stumbling here, but when Lego Batman is at its best, it shows it's every bit as good.

My son loves this movie

Okay, maybe it's not a true 5-star film, and if you go into this expecting to be blown away, you'll probably end up disappointed.
But, as one of those films that will keep you watching along without losing interest while your little one goes ga-ga over the trucks and lovable "Creech," Monster Trucks ticks all the boxes.
This was my son's first "in-theater" film at 3 years old. As 3 year olds are known to do, I worried it might end in chasing him through the aisles if the movie failed to keep his attention. Instead, he was talking about it long after we left, and ended up promising him the movie for his 4th birthday.
He was ECSTATIC to get his Monster Trucks movie, as well as 2 included wall stickers. (Note: copies without the blu ray jacket make no mention of including the stickers, and the store I purchased this at had no more with the jacket. Uncertain if copies without the slipcover include these or not).
Fact is, someone mucked up when they shelved Monster Trucks for a long period before putting it in the theater. Creech is fun, there's plenty of truck chases, action, and humor.
The best part of the movie, as good as it is, is looking over to your car or monster (or both) loving child, and seeing them enthralled and having a great time. A perfect movie for parents and kids!

When Ghostbusters hit PS4 as a tie-in with the latest movie, it was largely trashed as a cash grab, much like the TMNT game.
That trashing mostly came with a caveat- that as a full priced game, it just wasn't worth the technical issues and limited gameplay.
Now that the price has dropped, it's worth a look-see, but particularly if you're a Ghostbusters fan or of the "top-down shooter" genre.
The graphics are fitting, and actually, pretty good. Gameplay is pretty typical of the genre. Overall, at its current price, it's a solid game that's downsides are countered by the drop in price.
Bought this to play with my 4-year old, who adores Ghostbusters, and after seeing if he could grasp the gameplay by purchasing the older title, Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, decided he'd enjoy this one. And he has; which has also alleviated the small hiccup or lack of variety.
Enjoy this much more than I believed I would.

Delved into this pack of Neil Blomkamp films despite already owning District 9. Was part of a 3/$20 sale and couldn't pass up owning all three of one of the best younger sci-fi voices of the past decade.
Blomkamp is interesting. He seems to attract either outright love or hate at a similar volume. I wouldn't go so far as to say I LOVE his work, but I think he brings a pretty wonderful voice to the genre, and I'll use a comparison here that's near painful for me to do, comparing him to one who was my favorite; Ridley Scott.
Scott & Blomkamp both tend to use their films with plenty of subtext and messages beyond what you see. I've always found Scott to be at his best when he eases off the pedal some and allows that subtext to simply exist. When he really wants the audience to pick up on it, it becomes a sledgehammer pounding in the room next door... It could be worse, it could be against your skull, but at a certain point, you almost wish it would move from next door to against your head and just either knock you out or just say it out loud.
Blomkamp has, through all three films so far, kept that subtext firmly where it should be... As part of the world's history or background static. He never allows the *actual* story of events playing out on the screen to feel like it's second fiddle to the other points he's trying to make.
Blomkamp's films, while including other messages, never strays too far from the EVENTS of the immediate interest of the film, at this makes his almost always both accessible AND enjoyable, never muddied by personal investments.
And looking at how well he tells stories, compared to the beautiful to behold, but ego-stuffing of Prometheus, only adds to the recent frustration of Scott seemingly killing off any chance of Blomkamp touching Alien 5 in an interview earlier in the week. While Covenant seems to have listened to the complaints of fans, it still seems to be about Scott's ego and legacy, which could cost fans a better, more believable ending to the Alien series by one of the best voices in the business.
This 3-pack of Blomkamp films are highly recommended. Even if you own District 9, there's been new features added. If you already own all 3, it may not be worth it. If you're unfamiliar with Neil Blomkamp, a look at these films' scores are all solid ratings, if not outright good or great; they absolutely should be in your library. The 3-pack also includes a code for digital copies, so you'll be able to take them on the go.
Must own films that allow for a viewing while reflecting, or just to enjoy. Blomkamp is a voice we should all be supporting!

It's here, was it worth it?

To begin, I was one of those rallying hard against this reboot. NOT, as some did, over gender-swapping, but simply due to such lackluster efforts that choose classics to remake and are nothing more than a way to pull at nostalgia with little to no respect for the source material. Off the top of my head, the only ones I'd call excellent in the past decade are Fright Night & Dawn of the Dead; they did it right at modernizing with the necessary changes that would bring without coming off as cash-grabs. In the "I can deal with it," category fell The Thing prequel and Total Recall, largely because I liked seeing what TC could bring to the table without all the camp (still love the original, however).
So, I went into Ghostbusters with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It's not great, and a good portion of the laughs actually come from outside the actual Ghostbusters in Chris Hemsworth, whose first appearance in the film actually made me laugh hard enough that I choked on a chip.
As I watched this on cable, my son came down and was enthralled, which led me to introducing him to the original movie, and he's become, at almost 4 years old, all about Ghostbusters. I'll give credit to this film; it led to that interest, and we've since watched the original twice and are working our way through the Real Ghostbusters cartoon now.
It's a better movie than what I would have believed, and I'm glad we watched it. With his birthday a month away, we decided to take advantage of a sale at Best Buy, and picked this up, as well as the original two movies in a 3/$20 sale. Very good bargain!
For those who want a true sequel to the original films, hunt down Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which was on PS3 or XBox360. Written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and featuring all the likenesses and voices of all the original cast, it was made in response to the cry for more Ghostbusters when the actors realized they just couldn't work out a schedule to make it happen.

Ghostbusters: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson star as a quartet of Manhattan-based "paranormal investigators". When their government grants run out, the former three go into business as The Ghostbusters, later hiring Hudson on. Armed with electronic paraphernalia, the team is spectacularly successful, ridding The Big Apple of dozens of ghoulies, ghosties and long-legged beasties. Tight-lipped bureaucrat William Atherton regards the Ghostbusters as a bunch of charlatans, but is forced to eat his words when New York is besieged by an army of unfriendly spirits, conjured up by a long-dead Babylonian demon and "channelled" through beautiful cellist Sigourney Weaver and nerdish Rick Moranis. The climax is a glorious sendup of every Godzilla movie ever made-and we daresay it cost more than a year's worth of Japanese monster flicks combined. Who'd ever dream that the chubby, cheery Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man would turn out to be the most malevolent threat ever faced by New York City? When the script for Ghostbusters was forged by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, John Belushi was slated to play the Bill Murray role; Belushi's death in 1982 not only necessitated the hiring of Murray, but also an extensive rewrite. The most expensive comedy made up to 1984, Ghostbusters made money hand over fist, spawning not only a 1989 sequel but also two animated TV series (one of them partially based on an earlier live-action TV weekly, titled The Ghost Busters. Ghostbusters II: Ivan Reitman's sequel to the phenomenally successful Ghostbusters is looser and more self-assured than the original. The film opens with a title reading "Five Years Later" and finds the ghostbusters living in hard times. A restraining order has forbidden the boys to partake in paranormal warfare, and as a result they have had to seek other lines of work. Ray (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston (Ernie Hudson) spend their time performing at children's' birthday parties, and Egon (Harold Ramis) is busy conducting experiments investigating the effect of human emotions on the environment, leaving ghostbusting behind. Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dana (Sigourney Weaver) have split up. Venkman now hosts a local cable show called "The World of the Psychic." Dana, now divorced and the mother of a little baby named Oscar, works as an art restorer in a museum -- and this is where the plot kicks in. While Dana is restoring a portrait of a 16th-century tyrant by the name of Vigo the Carpathian, the portrait becomes hexed. The evil Vigo wants to return to life by taking over the body of Dana's little child. Vigo has enlisted Dana's boss, Janosz Poha (Peter MacNicol), to compel Dana to cooperate. Soon dirty sludge and slime flow through the streets of Manhattan, and the ghostbusters have to reunite to save the city from a funky paranormal evil.

Bought this, as previously I had only owned the original film in the special Anniversary edition DVD, and my son has suddenly loved all things Ghostbusters at the early age of 4.
The original is, of course, a classic you simply cannot go wrong with.
Ghostbusters 2 has always been hit or miss with me. Can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason I have days where I find it funny, and others where I barely crack a stifled laugh. What's important is that my son finds it funny, and for all intents and purposes, it delivers.
Pictures are particularly good here, even over the anniversary edition DVD.
If you already own them, but love them, it's worth the double dip at its price point.

Hi...My grandson is turning 6yrs old next week and he got a Nintendo 2DS for Christmas.. I wanted to know if I switch to a 2DS XL will he be able to use the old games with the new system? And is it worth the change? Thank u

All Nintendo DS games are compatible between the 2DS, 2DSXL, 3DS, and 3DSXL.
If a game is 2D however, it won't have 3D graphics on the 3DS systems. If a game is 3D, it will only show 2D graphics on a 2DS.
In my opinion, if he's upgrading from a 2DS, you'd be best served to upgrades to the 3DSXL.
The 3DSXL plays compatible 3D games in 3D without the need for glasses (which is really neat, being able to see 3D without the glasses they'd use for 3D movies) and still will play all his older games just fine.

Enjoy extreme computing power and uncompromising reliability with this CybertronPC Palladium gaming desktop. Its liquid cooling system keeps its powerful 4.0GHz Intel Core i7 processor from overheating, and the included 32GB of RAM handles the most demanding games. This CybertronPC Palladium gaming desktop has a 3TB hard drive to hold entire libraries of multimedia files.

Is there any possible customizable optionss for this device. Blu-ray player, front usb drives, etc.

There are 2 front/ top USB3.0 ports (they're angled).
There was an issue with the product description, which stated 10 USB ports. Mine arrived with the 2 front facing and only 4 or 5 in back. (Don't have access to PC, out of country atm). Best Buy did rectify the situation for me after bringing this to their attention by supplying me with a USB hub. As the PC appeared to be built as ordered, I cannot claim to whether this was an error by CyberTronic or an error in product description. (And number of USB ports may not be as big an issue for you).
This PC is built as a gaming "rig" and easily handles Virtual Reality (Oculus Rift,) and can handle having an external blu ray with no issues. There's plenty of power under the hood here, and I've been beyond happy with my purchase.
That said, if you do not do much gaming, this PC may be overkill, but it will handle modern games and VR handily, as well as video creation, which can hog memory, as well. Connecting an external blu ray player should be a matter of minutes and a quick install, and it should run smooth as butter with plenty left to spare.
