Rebound from Minions

While there was fun to be had with Minions, it eventually found its way from potentially excellent entry in the series to overlong short that should have remained an extra on the home release.
Not here, as Gru & the girls are all in on the "proper" series, and with Trey Parker as Balthazar, they landed a perfect opponent.
It's been awhile since I've watched the first two Despicable Me films, but this fell right in line with the rest in entertaining my son and I from beginning to end.

One of the all time greats of zombie films!
on September 29, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
Return of the Living Dead is one of the best zombie movies made, if not THE best.
Let's begin with what people don't recognize enough about RotLD that have become popular among Z films today.
It was the first movie that introduced brains as being associated with zombies.
It also was the first to stray from Romero's shambling ghouls to "runners," (sorry, 28 Days, RotLD did it 2 decades earlier).
RotLD was also an early "meta" film, recognizing Night of the Living Dead as a movie seen by the characters, then spinning it as "based on a true story".
The story is a top-notch (and my favorite,) horror-comedy, with a screenplay (and directed by,) Alien's writer, Dan O'Bannon.
The soundtrack, (while still missing "Dead Beat's Dance" from the theatrical/ VHS release, is a punk rock masterpiece, and for this special edition, tracks were remastered from the original source recordings, making it sound as great as it's ever been.
Along with a restored audio (MGM mucked with voices throughout the years,) RotLD SE is the best sounding version ever released. It also features several new commentary tracks- 5 or 6 total.
Video-wise, once again Scream Factory delivers. A new 2K scan that lovingly enriches colors and blacks without removing the "shot on film" feel from 30+ years ago. Truly, outside of maybe The Thing, this might be their best upgrade they've done.
The real treasure here is the RotLD workprint, which is 20 minutes longer. For the first time, you can watch the original print they worked from to see what was changed from here to the final release. Please note that the workprint that was discovered was of largely poor quality, (think finding an old family 8mm reel,) and not restored, so while this is a unique opportunity, it's not anything more than an opportunity. For fans of RotLD, and film buffs, it's a unique, precious goldmine of an opportunity. For those that can't see the beauty of the chance through tons of grain, it may not be as much of a thrill.
There's 2 discs here, filled with all of the MGM special edition extras and many, many more new to the Scream Factory release.
Even owning the previous MGM release, RotLD is an incredible film. Unlike many re-releases by the original studios, Scream Factory always treats their shot at a re-release as a golden opportunity to treat fans to a real reason to double-dip. RotLD is no different, and a must-buy for fans.

Learning from Mistakes

Like many, I was excited at what was offered by the promise of the original Watch Dogs, especially considering it was set in my hometown.
That "gotta have it" excitement fizzled rapidly once several hours of gameplay was invested and the new mechanics were largely never fully realized. There was promise in the game, but most of it just never felt satisfying.
Watch Dogs 2 has rectified almost every issue & unfulfilled desire the original brought to bear.
If you left WD1 unimpressed, WD2 has you covered, with a better story, tighter controls, and all the hacking expanded upon.
You owe it to yourself to revisit the world of Watch Dogs. They've come a long way, but I'm still hoping they return... to Chicago!

One of my faves in the series!

Like many, I was introduced to Final Fantasy when FF7 hit the original PlayStation, and was sucked in, losing too many hours of my life to its masterful story.
Since then, I've played, or attempted to play most of the games under the Final Fantasy moniker.
While Final Fantasy X came close, and X3 got better as the series of 3 games went on, none have captured my wonder like 7.
FF15 has gotten closer than any since 7, and even those like myself who have thought that magic will never be recaptured, should take a look at this one.
A great purchase, and a fun return to FF.

This release contains the complete first season of the Starz original horror comedy series Ash vs Evil Dead. A follow up to the Sam Raimi's Evil Dead film franchise, the series takes place thirty years after the events of the movies, and follows Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) once again at war with the Kandarian Demon after he accidentally unleashes the fury of the undead. The series co-stars Lucy Lawless, Dana DeLorenzo and Ray Santiago, with Raimi serving as a show developer. All ten episodes of the series are included in this set, as well as bonus content and deleted scenes.

Ash Returns!
on September 6, 2017
Posted by: doc8998
from Cary, IL
Verified Purchase:Yes
Avid fan of the Evil Dead series, even the 2013 reboot, which may be the best of the past decade+ craze of remake/ reboots.
But, as much as I loved the 2013 reboot, there was a certain sadness that Ash and that original universe wasn't revisited.
Here to tell you, Ash vs Evil Dead, the TV Series, is not just a cash-in, it's a weekly return to that original, over the top universe.
Bruce Campbell returns as the titular Ash, now more aged, (yet still no more grown up,) and getting into the amount of shenanigans you'd imagine from the character, when, during a drunken hook-up, attempts to impress his date with a showing of the infamous Necronomicon, which sets events in motion that will once again force our puckish rogue to set aside (or not,) himself to save the world.
AvED is lovingly crafted to recapture everything that made ED2 & Army of Darkness such memorable films. Humor, blood & guts, special effects, even camera angles are all used in a way that does its job in making the series feel like its part of the original storyline.
The new characters fit right in, but its Ash, the Chin himself, Bruce Campbell, who slides right back into the role he made 30 years ago.
All the greatness aside, and while it keeps the "feel" of ED2 & AOD, one needs to understand that AOD is ignored as continuity here, but it's not missed; any questions you may have about events of AOD is quickly overshadowed by just how entertaining this series is.
Lucy Lawless, a Raimi favorite, plays main villain Ruby, and for a real treat, pick up season 2, when Lee Majors appears as Ash's estranged father and Ellen Sandweiss, who played Cheryl (Ash's sister,) in the original 1981 film, makes a return.
This is a wonderful return, and any fan of the original series that hasn't added this to their library already is missing out.

Written with a heavy heart

Lifeforce is one of the true underrated masterpieces not just of horror/sci-fi, but of the recently passed Tobe Hooper's catalog. (In fact, it happens to be my favorite of his, edging out even Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
Once again, I find myself double-dipping in order to get my hands on a Scream Factory release, and as is usual, they impress, especially in the remaster. While not chock-full of new extras, it's a great visual quality here, along with both versions of the film: theatrical and the Director's Cut and a combination of several new extras and those ported from MGMs DVD version.
The film marks one of the earliest appearances of Patrick Stewart, although his role is somewhat limited, as well as the stunning Mathilda May, as the lead space vampire (space vampire is accurate, although it sounds hokier than it is,) walking around largely in the buff for the better part of the movie.
Watching London become overrun by a space vampire plague is one of the early "large scale" battles I can recall; and with the infected regaining their vitality with each kill, leading to distrust and the unknown of who can be trusted, Lifeforce feels like a (wonderful,) cross between The Thing and a large scale zombie film.
One of the many great original 80s horror films that still seems fresh 35 years later, if not better than much of the PG13 drek that passes as horror nowadays.

Great for the BRD Quality, but...
on August 29, 2017

I'll begin with the following:
I'm biased. The Howling is my favorite werewolf film of all-time. Sure, American Werewolf in London is right alongside it, but I prefer my Wolves to be more "human-wolf" on two legs than "large wolf" plodding around on all fours.
The Howling set the standard for my preference of 'Wolf, and outside of Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers, no other film has come close in the 35 years since. (And if you say Underworld's Rogaine-needing CGI 'Wolves are anywhere near this, you should actually order The Howling now and watch the movie, because it's the only assumption that can be made).
Despite one horrendous choice in attempting to pass off animation (not claymation, actual animation,) as the film, (the quality was bad then, and one has to wonder why they didn't edit it out or film it differently. It's a simple 2 second shot, and over the past 35 years, it's become charming, in a way, I suppose,) The Howling set a standard for 'Wolf effects that are amazing; hardly surprising as Rob Bottin, who provided the stunning practical effects of The Thing, holds down the same position here.
And, also unsurprisingly, Scream Factory provides a visually beautiful blu ray quality image. Contrast is nearly perfect here, and that's important in this film.
As expected, the 'Wolves come out at night, and with the numerous practical effects shots used, ensuring the proper lighting throughout is achieved is important. While the practical effects are better than even those of today, they are still 35 years old, and making sure things that need to stay in the shadows remain there while giving us clear views and appreciation of the beautiful beasts is achieved masterfully.
Now, with all that said, I have my first issue EVER with a Scream Factory release.
Every Collector's Edition I've gotten from them, (quite a few,) has always brought SEVERAL new extras to the table outside of a better image. Not so with The Howling, which is just a "port" of the extras from the MGM Collector's Edition on DVD from years ago, along with one new item: "Horror's Hallowed Grounds," in which a host who believes he's more amusing than he actually is, revisits famous locations used in The Howling.
No question that this extra is very cool, but the host is rather grating when he tries to be funny. Thankfully, he doesn't overdo it, and seeing Eddie's cabin, still standing, still recognizable, (along with many other stops along the way,) FAR outweighs any annoyances with attempted humor. (Honestly, now knowing where it is, that it's accessible to the public, if you know where to look, has made me want to visit it!)
The Howling is one of my favorites; I had zero issue double-dipping for this one. If you own the MGM DVD Collector's Edition, it may not be worth it for others, even with the better quality picture and one extra.
If you don't own The Howling or have a bare bones copy, Scream Factory has issued the best looking version thus far.

Like watching for 1st time all over again

The Thing is one of my all-time favorite films, and Scream Factory's loving remaster is absolutely the way to watch this classic, not just of the horror genre, but movies of the past half century.
As an owner of the Collector's Edition DVD issued by Universal (Itself a great issue of the film,) many years ago, I originally hesitated due to other priorities. I wish I had made this version a priority much earlier.
Scream Factory restored The Thing into a 2K scan, and if it weren't for certain items that date the movie, (or my own rapidly increasing dating,) you'd swear it was a recently filmed movie. The icy Antarctic setting, the blacks of night, the light of fires, and Rob Bottin's artistically gory practical effects all pop in this scan. If you loved the Universal DVD picture, this will blow you away.
Extra-wise, Scream Factory always provides; here, they've included everything from the Universal Collector's Edition as well as their standard inclusion of many new extras. All told, you'll receive a blu ray with film and extras, including a new commentary, (as well as previous ones,) and several other extras, as well as a second DVD including the 80min Making Of documentary, as well as a slew of others.
The Thing comes from a heyday of great horror that still holds strong, even bettering most new voices that have come since. It, much like the original Alien, still hold the power to shock and awe. Regardless of whether you own a prior version, THIS is the version you need to add to your library.
Scream Factory ALWAYS delivers; with The Thing, they hit the high mark even among their other re-releases.

Great film!

Despite hearing very good things about Don't Breathe, and loving Fede Alvarez' take on Evil Dead, (on par with Fright Night as my favorite remakes/ reboots,) I put this film aside as being something to check out. My thinking being that, unless you're an absolute hack, you just can't screw up remaking Evil Dead, with the amazing source material, and Don't Breathe appeared to be a relative "paint by numbers" horror trope. There'd be one of a few twists coming that, pardon the pun, we'd see coming, especially if you're a veteran of horror with decades of experience exploring the genre.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
I regret not seeing this masterpiece oh so much sooner.
There's no way to expand upon what you may know from the previews without ruining the twist, but in the off-chance you're unfamiliar with Don't Breathe's premise, here's the rundown.
Three youths that are thieves, (two for making money, one to rebel against his father,) catch wind from their fence that an older blind man, (played masterfully by Stephen Lang, proving once again Deadpool made an error not casting him as Cable,) has a fortune in cash at his home. The reason for the fortune? His only child was killed in an auto incident. This creates a moral dilemma for part of our group, as well as humanizes the story, grounding it in tragedy for our viewers through perfect storytelling.
As in the previews, what seems like what should be an easy heist has the tables turned on the thieves due to a combination of Lang cutting the power, a realistic portrayal of his hearing being more attuned after years of no sight, and being much more familiar with his surroundings.
You'd be right in thinking this sounds like a typical horror film that's been played out numerous times. But, the storytelling is done so well, the acting very good, and the twist/ gimmick SO excellent, that it's miles ahead of anything else this may sound similar to. There's no way to hint at it without lessening its impact when it plays out. Place a pillow in your lap for when your jaw drops.
That reveal is boatloads of discomfort, and I'm not one easily triggered; precisely WHY I ran out and bought Don't Breathe directly after seeing it on cable. While not on the same scale as Martyrs, Don't Breathe had me thinking about its twist heavily the rest of the night and days afterwards.
If, like me, you chose to skip Don't Breathe because it seemed too familiar, you need to rectify that, and you'd be best served, at its low price, to just add it to your collection from the outset.
Evil Dead made me believe Fede Alvarez had potential, but with a foundation already laid down by Sam Raimi, he was just a name to keep an eye on when future movies hit cable or streaming.
Don't Breathe has assured me that Fede Alvarez isn't *A* name to watch, he's *THE* name to watch, and you'll see me at the head of the line at the theater for upcoming films, especially if he continues to create original masterpieces like Don't Breathe.

My first instinct upon seeing the "King Kong: Ultimate Edition" was pretty sour. I already own it twice, and if it wasn't for the low price point of $10, I wouldn't have purchased it for the one "major" addition that may or may not be your tipping point, as well.
The Ultraviolet copy.
For $10, to get one of the better movies available in past 25 years, it was worth it to have access whenever I travel.
But, what is the Ultimate Edition?
Before blu ray became the go-to, King Kong was released in a special edition on DVD. 3 discs, both theatrical and Director's Cut, and 10+ hours of extras.
Once blu ray came along with higher definition, Kong was released again, this time with both cuts in the better format, but very lite on the extras.
The Ultimate Edition brings the blu ray versions of the film together with the extras provided from the DVD, along with the UV copy. (Please note, the extras are NOT upgraded in Ultimate Edition).
Essentially, the choice on this varies greatly based on how much you love this film, whether you own a prior version and which one, and whether you want it in UV. But, at $10, there's no real gouging going on here to avoid this version based on your personal collection.
If this had been released at any other price point, I couldn't recommend it. As is, it may finalize 2005's journey of Kong for my own library. (Until 4K lol).

Hi...My grandson is turning 6yrs old next week and he got a Nintendo 2DS for Christmas.. I wanted to know if I switch to a 2DS XL will he be able to use the old games with the new system? And is it worth the change? Thank u

All Nintendo DS games are compatible between the 2DS, 2DSXL, 3DS, and 3DSXL.
If a game is 2D however, it won't have 3D graphics on the 3DS systems. If a game is 3D, it will only show 2D graphics on a 2DS.
In my opinion, if he's upgrading from a 2DS, you'd be best served to upgrades to the 3DSXL.
The 3DSXL plays compatible 3D games in 3D without the need for glasses (which is really neat, being able to see 3D without the glasses they'd use for 3D movies) and still will play all his older games just fine.

Enjoy extreme computing power and uncompromising reliability with this CybertronPC Palladium gaming desktop. Its liquid cooling system keeps its powerful 4.0GHz Intel Core i7 processor from overheating, and the included 32GB of RAM handles the most demanding games. This CybertronPC Palladium gaming desktop has a 3TB hard drive to hold entire libraries of multimedia files.

Is there any possible customizable optionss for this device. Blu-ray player, front usb drives, etc.

There are 2 front/ top USB3.0 ports (they're angled).
There was an issue with the product description, which stated 10 USB ports. Mine arrived with the 2 front facing and only 4 or 5 in back. (Don't have access to PC, out of country atm). Best Buy did rectify the situation for me after bringing this to their attention by supplying me with a USB hub. As the PC appeared to be built as ordered, I cannot claim to whether this was an error by CyberTronic or an error in product description. (And number of USB ports may not be as big an issue for you).
This PC is built as a gaming "rig" and easily handles Virtual Reality (Oculus Rift,) and can handle having an external blu ray with no issues. There's plenty of power under the hood here, and I've been beyond happy with my purchase.
That said, if you do not do much gaming, this PC may be overkill, but it will handle modern games and VR handily, as well as video creation, which can hog memory, as well. Connecting an external blu ray player should be a matter of minutes and a quick install, and it should run smooth as butter with plenty left to spare.
