A necessity for video and photo editors

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2020 Review
Photoshop Elements 2020 is the newest edition of the flagship photo editing software by Adobe. Even though I’m not a graphic artist, I do create graphics on a daily or weekly basis for social media for my business, so I need the tools that do the job as efficiently as possible. Photoshop Elements 2020 is arguably the most powerful photo editing software on the market. You can color correct, remove/add and change backgrounds more intelligently than ever before. If you have a collection of black and white photos, you can automatically colorize them. You even get multiple color options to choose from. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or professional, this software gives you the ability to choose between easy and advanced modes, to make sure that everyone has a pleasant experience, editing their photos. Being able to automatically remove a subject from a background is wonderful, but it doesn’t always work smoothly with a busy background, but one day we’ll get there, I’m sure. The power of Photoshop is so limitless that you might want to consider taking a class or two to really benefit from this software. Of course, YouTube and the internet might be just as helpful.
I also want to mention the Adobe Organizer that organizes all of your photos for you with tags, locations and facial recognition. I had 20,000 photos to analyze, which took a full work day to finish. I’m not looking forward to having to do that again. Overall, a great product, and it’s hard to recommend anything else for photo editing.
Adobe Premiere Elements 2020 Review
Premiere Elements 2020 is the newest edition of the flagship video editing software by Adobe. I’ve been a Final Cut user for a decade, but many of my video editor friends have jumped ship to Adobe Premiere. This is my first hands on experience with Premiere, so it’s interesting so see what the fuss is all about. My first impression is that Premiere has a clean interface with no clutter. If you’re a beginner, you can create quick little videos easily with templates and guides, and if you’re a seasoned veteran, you have every tool you need to edit a professional video, from start to finish. As a Final Cut user, I’m happy to see that adjusting in/outs are much easier in Premiere. This has become such a hassle in Final Cut, especially when you’re trying to sync multiple layers of videos. Premiere also has a collection of graphics you can use, even though I don’t see myself using them a whole lot. Overall, this is definitely the video editor you should start with. There might be a day that you need a program for specific purposes, but until then, Premiere should take care of all your video editing needs.
By getting this bundle you even save $50, so this is a spectacular deal!

Great sound but not the most comfortable
on August 21, 2019
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
The Marshall Minor II In-Ear Headphones is another Marshall product aimed at the regular consumer, rather than rock guitar players. The headphones are light and have that classic Marshall look to them, including the logo. The sound is clear and detailed, with plenty of volume, which from experience, tends to be a problem with Bluetooth headphones. The bass is more neutral than many other headphones, which in my book, is a positive, not a negative. They’re advertised to last about 12 hours, and have a quick charge feature, when time is of the essence. It takes two hours to fully charge the unit.
My biggest negative is that the headphones are not particularly comfortable. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Buds, that I can barely feel when they’re in my ears, the Minors always make me aware that they’re there. There’s a slight pressure, that probably comes from the fact that there’s no cushion, just a hard rubber/plastic feel. The only way to adjust size is by pushing the cable through the unit, there’s no exchangeable rubber. I have small ears, so I did not find the cable-adjusting very helpful, I preferred it when the cable was just slightly extracted. This may be more useful if you have large ears. I will say that when it comes to the discomfort, it doesn’t get worse over time, but it doesn’t get better either.
There’s a gold button that controls everything. Power, volume, next track etc. This works pretty well by pushing the button down, up, left, right.
A USB cable is included, so all you need is a USB-port or a USB-charger. A manual with many languages is also included and is very informative.
To sync it to your smartphone, you have to hold the button for five seconds. You have to do this when the unit is off, or else, you’ll just turn it off. You turn it on by holding it for three seconds, so all you have to do is hold it for another two.
There’s no noise-cancellation, physically and digitally, so these may not be the best headphones for noisy environments.
I’ve been looking for the perfect Bluetooth headphones for a while now. The Minor II headphones are close when it comes to the sound, but they’re just not comfortable enough in my ears to be worn daily. Perhaps the third generation will address that. That would make it a home run!

A 2-in-1 laptop with a fast and smooth experience.
on June 17, 2019
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
This Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 laptop is a great choice for those who are looking for a faster and smoother experience. Dell is a trusted American computer brand with great customer service. This laptop has specifications that can be seen on laptops with much higher price tags, including 16GBs of memory and a 512GB SSD. If you’re buying a new laptop in 2019, get one with a solid state drive like this one. It’s much faster, meaning a better experience. It’s ready to go in less than 30 seconds.
Visually speaking, this laptop looks great in black. It’s sleek, modern and streamlined, and it has a nice high quality feel to it.
Is this a gaming laptop? Yes and no. It comes installed with a 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics card and a quad-core 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, which does make it possible to play video games, but don’t expect to be able to play the newest games with max settings.
I play video games mostly on my Xbox One X, so I was able to connect my Xbox One controller to the laptop through Bluetooth. I installed Forza Motorsport 7 which is a 100GB download through the Windows Store. The store throttled my download speed down to 20 Mbps, so it took about 9 - 10 hours for the download to finish. The game works fine on the laptop, and the Xbox One controller responds as expected. The game ran on Dynamic Low in 720p, which is obviously not as crisp as its Xbox One X counterpart, but quite nice for a more portable setup. I suggest sticking to games that are less demanding.
Whatever you do with this laptop, you will be amazed by the gorgeous 4K display. It looks wonderful with a sharp, bright and detailed image. I truly enjoy looking at it, and haven’t been this impressed with a laptop screen since I got my retina MacBook Pro back in 2012. The screen also has the benefit of being touchscreen so you can use it as a big tablet if you want.
A pleasant surprise for me personally was when I discovered that this laptop comes with a stylus, the Dell Active Pen. It makes drawing/painting so much fun, and I can’t recommend it enough for any creative person out there. I’m no artist, but I’m having so much fun with it anyway.
The keyboard is very comfortable. It’s backlit in case you do a lot of late night typing on airplanes or in dark spaces, and it has a pleasant feel and sound. The power button is also a fingerprint scanner, so that you can unlock it with your fingerprint. It works very fast, but I’m still deciding whether it’s in the right spot or not. If you have something right next to the laptop on the right side, it feels a little awkward to put your finger down on the scanner. Other than that, it works very quickly and recognizes my fingerprint, most of the time. I do recommend against using your thumb, as it encourages an awkward pose while unlocking your computer.
I’m never a huge fan of laptop touchpads, and if I had to point out one weakness, it’s the touchpad. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, but I will point out a few weaknesses. It doesn’t respond well to holding, for example moving an icon. I might have to repeat the action a few times. As a right-handed person, I’m not a big fan of it being on the left side. Maybe the benefit is that you can rest your arm on your stomach depending on your position, but I still would prefer it in the center.
The built-in stereo speakers are just okay. The sound is kind of tinny, so don’t expect a lot of low end. I never expect much from laptop speakers so I always use headphones or speakers. I tried connecting this to a bluetooth speaker and syncing was easy. It improved the sound tremendously. You can also improve the sound through the included software.
Battery life felt normal for a laptop, I would say an average of 4 - 5 hours of actual usage, but it depends heavily on how you use it. It might last about 2 hours of gaming. It does allow fast charging so that you can charge it up again pretty fast. An hour charge can get you back up to about 80 - 90 %.
Before I wrap this up, just a heads up, this laptop does not include a built-in DVD/CD drive. I also want to make a correction. The Best Buy specifications say no webcam, but it does have a webcam. For photos it’s 0.9 Megapixels and for videos it’s 720p. That might sound a little low, but the image quality is actually very nice with a good white balance. There is an SD card reader but only microSD.
Overall, I really like this laptop and I’ll be using it for years forward. I am upgrading from a 2017 HP laptop, and even though they share some of the same specs, this one is the true winner. I’m very satisfied.

Premier headset for the big talker
on June 12, 2019
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
I wanted the Plantronics Voyager Legend because I know someone who did the research, chose the Voyager Legend and uses it everyday religiously. I’ve spoken to this person many times on the phone and being on the receiving end is wonderful. The voice is always clear and easy to understand.
I’m upgrading from a Motorola headset that’s probably about 5 years old, so it was time for an upgrade. I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S10 with this headset and it synced as soon as I selected it. Sound quality is superb even though it’s probably not the best way to experience Dark Side of the Moon. I tried it just for fun and it sounded fine. It’s very comfortable in my ear, out of the box. It does not enter the ear canal. It does come with alternative eartips and foam eartip covers if needed. It’s a bit larger than my previous headset but not too big, that does not mean it’s heavy. It’s only 18 Grams and my head does not tilt to the right. I barely notice it in my ear at all.
The voice quality should satisfy any business man, gossiper and loquacious person out there. It has no problem handling tougher conditions including walking, wind and parking structures, thanks to its advanced noise cancelling technology. Low-end headsets can’t handle wind and other noises very well, whereas this headset cancels out pretty much everything but your voice so that the person on the other side can hear more about your trip to the pet store, uninterrupted. You might need a bag of chips nearby, in case your mother-in-law calls.
Voice commands are useful when driving, for example, you can answer the phone by saying “answer,” and it works wonderfully, the device will even tell you who’s calling, so that you can say “Ignore” when your mother-in-law calls. You also receive notifications through the headset.
Battery life seems good, but will depend heavily on how much you use it. You might have to charge it once a week or so for normal use.
Pro tip: if you’re a heavy user, I recommend getting the rechargeable case for it. Not only will it keep the headset in a pristine condition much longer, it will charge it when not in use, keeping it charged much longer. Do not keep it in your pocket. You’re better than that.
The Voyager Legend is the premier headset for anyone who talks on the phone a lot and is looking for a comfortable headset with the best sound quality.

Compact flash drive that's great for students
on March 14, 2019
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
The SanDisk UltraFit flash drive is pretty much the smallest flash drive you can get. It’s amazing that this little thing fits 128 GBs. It’s black, says SanDisk and has a ring you can use to attach it to a keyring. The price is moderate for a 128 GB flash drive, but the more reasonable alternatives are usually larger and USB 2.0 or 3.0, not 3.1 like this one. Something to keep in mind, if you’re looking for a faster experience.
On my first day, I transferred a variety of files. One was a folder with 7.91 GBs containing 1580 files. It took 11 minutes to transfer from an SSD. I also transferred a 3.54 GB video file in 1 minute and 14 seconds from my Fusion Drive.
The SanDisk UltraFit comes with a software called Flashback, and it’s designed to back up everything on the flash drive. Luckily, you get one year for free. After that, you pay $4.99 a year for 128 GBs. Before installing, I removed the 3.54 GB video file, leaving only the 7.91 GBs of content. It took about an hour and a half for it to back up. A small complaint here, is that it only tells you the percentage, not the time remaining, like Dropbox does. I like knowing how much time it’s going to take, even if it’s not completely accurate. I had to leave a few minutes after the backup was complete, so time was of the essence.
Who is this flash drive for? The biggest draw to this flash drive is its speed, portability and the ability to back up the whole drive at a reasonable price. That should sound advantageous to any student who’s looking for a compact flash drive to save their documents on. It is not advertised as being waterproof, so I assume it’s not, but if you by any chance, lose the drive, you have a backup in the cloud, that you can access without the drive itself. That should be a comforting feeling to anyone.
I highly recommend this flash drive. As a repeat SanDisk customer, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

A fantastic printer at a reasonable price
on September 24, 2018
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
The Brother MFC-J995DW is a wonderful 3-in-1 printer that does every task beautifully. I tested all three functionalities and will share my experience with all of them in this review.
Installing the printer was relatively hassle-free, even though it took me over an hour. I highly recommend following the Quick Easy Guide. The process of installing the ink cartridges was easy and took maybe 5 mins including the wait for the ink to transfer. Setting it up to the WiFi was a bigger task, but only because my router (Sagecom) has issues with new devices. A static IP fixed that though.
I tried first to set it up on my iPhone 8, but was unable to print and unable to update the firmware on it, so I had to do it on my iMac. Before being able to update the firmware on a computer (at least through WiFi), you have to download the Java Development Kit, which acted a little bit buggy, but I was able to update the firmware this way. After updating, I could start printing, both on my iMac and my iPhone.
As a printer, it works fast and the quality is great. Printing from my computer and my iPhone was easy and quick. You need the Brother iPrint&Scan app both on iPhone and your computer to be able to print, which also allows you to scan. You can also print by clicking the “Print” button in an app menu. When I printed a document this way, the printer was already selected and ready to go, and the document started printing as soon as I hit “Print.”
As a scanner, it produces a rich, vibrant scan of the original, and it does it quickly. The color and detail were quite impressive, even on lower settings. With the app, it’s easy to select the destination of the scanned image, making it very convenient. This is easily the best scanner I’ve ever owned.
Many of you don’t have or use a fax machine anymore, but if you do, I can assure you it does a fine job at faxing a document. Nothing wrong with the quality of the scan, and it’s pretty easy to save numbers and set up your fax information.
The user interface is designed pretty well. You do pretty much everything on a small touch screen, and I had no issues using it. In addition to the touch screen, there’s a back, cancel and home button. Sometimes you have to hit back, other times cancel. Just one button would’ve been fine, because if you hit back when you’re supposed to hit cancel, the printer acts like it doesn’t understand, when you clearly just wanted to back to the previous menu. It’s a minor complaint but I wanted to mention it.
Overall, this is a great printer at a great price. I’ve had several printers over the years, and this is definitely my favorite so far. One last thing, remember to pull that little thingy out, or the paper will just fall on the floor.

Compact Bluetooth Speaker for Rockers!
on August 31, 2018
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
If you're a rocker, you're already familiar with the Marshall brand of amplifiers. In recent years, they've expanded their brand to headphones, cellphones and bluetooth speakers like this one.
The Kilburn II is the cute baby brother to the Stanmore, but don't let that fool you. It still sounds great. There's plenty of bass and enough volume to satisfy your everyday needs. This will have a permanent place on my kitchen table, synced to my iPad, for all of my breakfast entertainment. Speaking of syncing, I had no issues syncing this to my iPad Air 2. All I did was push the Bluetooth button on the top and pairing began immediately. When turning the iPad back on, all you have to do is turn the speaker on, and it pairs automatically.
If you're an audiophile, you can adjust bass and treble controls to get a better sound. I recommend starting at noon on both and see if it sounds like it should. I turned the bass down a tad, and the treble up a tad. In terms of loudness, when turned all the way up, it's nowhere near as loud as an old Plexi, but it's definitely loud enough for rock and roll!
It's worth noting that it is IPX2 water-resistant rating, so it’s able to withstand a little bit of water, so you could bring this to the beach if you wanted to. Fully charged, the battery lasts about 20 hours, which should be enough for day at the beach and an evening camping. It looks like it's built to be able to handle the travel also!
The Marshall Kilburn II looks cool, sounds great and is highly portable. My only ding is that it's a little bit overpriced.

A highly recommended laptop for non-gamers
on December 3, 2017
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
Do you want people to be envious of you? Then this might be the laptop for you! With a price tag close to a thousand dollars, you certainly have certain expectations and requirements. This is a Windows 10 laptop with touch screen, which means you can also use it as an "oversized" tablet. Here's my experience with both modes:
In laptop mode, I experienced a comfortable and responsive keyboard. I truly enjoy typing on this keyboard, and on a 15 inch laptop, the num pad is a huge plus. The touch pad on the other hand, does have some response issues, mainly when clicking, not tapping. I prefer clicking over tapping, and I don’t like the fact that it doesn’t always respond to my click. It will though on the second try. The cursor can also be slightly inaccurate. When you move the cursor to a word and click, the blinking line appears one letter to the left of where you clicked.
Tablet mode works fine. The touch screen has been very responsive so far. I prefer using “regular sized” tablets over a 15 inch 2-in-1, but I can see how this can be the preferred mode for certain programs and games. I like to keep the screen free from fingerprints so I have not used tablet mode much.
Design - It's a nice looking computer. It’s sleek, and the silver color which is pretty much becoming the standard color for laptops, looks good. The screen resolution is 1080p which isn’t as impressive after using a MacBook Pro Retina for five years, but the color reproduction seems accurate and apps and videos look great when looking straight at it, not so much from the sides. Small text doesn't look spectacular, but it's legible.
Audio - When you receive this laptop, the box and the laptop itself advertise the Bang & Olufsen speakers. Laptop speakers in general are mediocre so don’t expect much. I’d say they might be slightly above average but I expected more from them because they make a big deal out of the name. It's no bass, all treble! But that shouldn't come as a shock!
Specs - 1.8 GHz i7 processor and 16 GB memory is decent for internet browsing and simple apps, but I wouldn't recommend this PC for gaming, certainly not modern titles. A gaming laptop needs a lot more power which again is gonna cost more. Look elsewhere for that! I had no problem setting it up to my home's WiFi and watching YouTube videos and visiting websites is a smooth experience. You can log in with your face and that seems to work most of the time.
Last thing, it does not include a disc drive, so if you're looking for a way to watch DVDs and Blu-Rays, you might want to invest in an external disc drive.

All About That Bass!
on March 26, 2017
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
I've had these headphones now for two days and I've played many different genres through them, including Michael Jackson, Kendrick Lamar, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin for testing purposes.
Sound quality first: These headphones do have a lot of bass, as promised/advertised, so very appropriate for hip hop and electronic music in general. The extra bass does add some low-mid also, which CAN sound weird when listening to recording with a lot of low-mid content.
Build quality: The headset is comfortable to wear and looks sturdy, and should last a long time. It did not come with a travel bag, which could've been nice, but they do twist to save space.
The technical aspect of it: It's easy to set up and use, I had no problems connecting to a Samsung S7, and there is an app that allows you to set the bass level from -10 to +10. Also, there is a "Surround" option with settings such as Arena and Club, which I have to admit seems pretty useless, because all it does is make it sound more distant. I would rather have different EQ presets.
What does it come with? A USB cable for charging but any phone charger will do just fine, and a 3.5 mm jack for use with non-Bluetooth devices.
Overall, a great pair of headphones!

Great sound, comfortable, but not loud enough
on January 25, 2017
Posted by: Porsche
from Los Angeles
I've been using these earphones with a Samsung Galaxy S7, if that makes any difference. Compared to the stock Samsung earphones, these are not only much more comfortable, they also sit much better in your ear. Sound wise, they are of course much better. JBL is a great company that makes high quality products.
To be more specific, the sound is heavy on bass, but it's the good kind of bass boost, not a cheap EQ boost.
How's the fit? It comes with many different sizes for the thing that goes in your ear canal, and the thing that goes in your ear lobe, so it should fit you, whether you're a man, woman, boy or girl.
The only negative comment I have about these earphones is that they don't produce enough volume. I'm in my 20s in case you're wondering, and my hearing is fine. When it's maxed out on the phone, it's just starting to get loud enough. Maybe that's good, if you're using these when running outside, in case of unexpected traffic, emergency vehicles etc.
Bluetooth connectivity seems to be fine. Easy to setup, haven't noticed any disruptions.
All in all, I highly recommend these earphones.
