A thick, sturdy, really nice, cloth cable w snap!
on March 8, 2019

from Marysville, OH
Got this cable because our last cable, which was much less sturdy, got all kinked up and looked to be presenting as a fire hazard. This cable arrived packaged very nicely and presented as a premium product. Opening it up I was very impressed with the cloth cover and the overall sturdiness/thickness of the cable. I do not think this cable will have the same issues as the cheaper, thinner one that afflicted my last cable that this one is replacing. I was also impressed with the little snap, which reminds me of the snap that one would have on a blue jean jacket. It's nice to be able to tidy up the cable as you see fit and the fact that it is attached to the cable means that you won't lose it. Ultimately "installing" the cable simply meant plugging it into my computer and then my phone and it worked great. I tested it for a while and it provided full charging abilities to my iPhone Max XS.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

An intense, pricey workout aid - worth it though!!

My wife and I had been looking for something like this for a while to help with warming up and, more importantly, helping with easing our tired muscles after a good, long workout. So when I saw the Hyperice I was intrigued and then after reading further reviews I decided to go ahead and get it and hope that it worked as advertised. When I first received the Hyperice I thought I had mistakenly got a speaker! I had seen it online prior to ordering but seeing it in person it still really reminded me of a large speaker. Our first opportunity to use it meant we had to charge it. It said it required a 12 hour charge right out of the gate but it didn't look like it needed it. We charged it overnight anyways.
Using the Hyperice for the first time was pretty intense. We had to use the enclosed instructions to look to see how we should be using it and seeing if we were using it right. For the first few days we just used it on the lowest setting before finally graduating to the medium setting. I don't think we'll be using the highest anytime soon but it's nice to know there's another level if we want to go up. Now how does it do? For warming up it does get the blood flowing and my wife and I both liked it for that purpose. But the best part really is soothing and massaging your tired muscles, like calves, when you're done. My wife complained a little that the thing moved around due to the intense vibrations but I didn't really have too much of a problem and I think she'll get used to it.
It has worked extremely well to give us some help warming up and a post-workout relief and for that reason I'd highly recommend. The cons are, of course as mentioned price, it's a bit loud and can, if you don't control it, move around a bit much on the floor.

Really nice slow cooker! Fantastic looks & saute!

Slow cookers - can you ever have enough of them? I know I can't. I remember seeing my dad's collection and thinking how ridiculous it was but after years of cooking I have came to realize just how helpful it is to have more of them, especially for holidays. This one caught my eye because of the name brand and how it will also do saute'ing.
Upon receiving it my first impression was that it was pretty small. I was planning to use this on Thanksgiving for a big helping of macaroni and cheese and wasn't sure if it was large enough to hold it all. Well my wife convinced me to try it and I guess its looks are deceiving because it handled it with great ease, leaving enough room that I could have made even more. I think the reason it looks small is that the bottom is made for a stove and thus something you may want to be aware of if you're planning to cook like a large roast in it (I think it might fit but maybe not lie flush in the bottom due to the design).
The entire slow cooker is really sharp looking and was easy enough to get up and running after a quick, warm rinse. The display is large and easy to read, which is a big deal for some of us older folks who tend to use these things. The top is made of glass with a great rubber seal once you sit it down. Because it's glass it sits a little heavier and doesn't move around which is great for those of us who may accidentally bump it in the midst of a cooking frenzy.
The digital display clearly shows the time remaining and once the time runs out it will dutifully change to the warm setting and then a few hours later, I believe 4, will turn off completely. This thing will still retain a lot of heat even when its turned off and that is good if you need to put this in the car and take it to anothers household, you can rest assured your food will stay warm until you can get to their house and find a plug. Now for clean up, how'd it do?
Well we all know mac and cheese is a fantastic dish but can be a bear to clean up with some pieces getting stuck on the sides and bottom but this thing handled it like a champ after soaking for a couple of hours in Dawn and some warm water. It wiped down and was cleaned up and ready to go again in no time flat. Nothing really sticks to this material so clean up is about as easy as it gets.
All in all I think this is a fantastic slow cooker. Sure it's like a lot of others out there but the looks of the unit and its large and easy to read display, combined with the ability to saute', which many other slow cookers do not have, put it over the top and means I highly recommend it this Christmas. Consider this for a gift to a family or friend who likes to cook or maybe put it under the tree for yourself from Santa..shhh, no one will know!

Finally the cordless vacuum we've all waited for!
on October 19, 2018
Posted by: Shaunh20
from Marysville, OH
My wife and I have several animals, two cats and two dogs, so we have a lot of vacuuming to do. Needless to say we have had our fair share of vacuum cleaners through the years and tried probably about every major brand that you can think of. In the past few years we've seen several companies try to create vacuum cleaners that are cordless and once we started using cordless we never did want to go back to the old, corded vacuum cleaners. It's just a certain amount of freedom with having no cord. The problem really has been twofold with cordless vacuum cleaners: power and longevity. Our last corded vacuum that we bought was a Shark and we were a bit skeptical but we had found a great deal on it. We thought there was no way it would challenge our $499 Dyson. We had just decided that it would be nice to have a secondary vacuum to use on another part of our house and so we bought the shark. Little did we know upon purchasing that the Shark would become our primary vacuum throughout the house, relegating the Dyson to the occasional use. With that being said we were confident that the Shark IonFlex Multiflex IF281 would be a pretty good vacuum.
Our last experience with a similar cordless vacuum had a couple of issue, primarily being it constantly shows as something being stuck in it when there is nothing stuck in it. Secondly, however, it would run out of gas fairly quickly, I believe 20 minutes or so. I had always thought it would be great if every cordless vacuum would just include two power packs so you would have one on reserve. Well the Shark Ion Multiflex IF281 does just that. But wait, there's more, as they say...the Shark Ion Multiflex IF281 actually has a long, long battery time anyways. I would tell you what it is but honestly in over a week of use throughout the house we have not exhausted it. Which is amazing and changes how one would use a cordless and allows it to be a feasible replacement, finally, for that corded vacuum which we do not like to use if we can avoid (hate the cord now, hate it!).
Now, how does it do picking up things? Fantastic! From what I can tell it has as much power to grab cat hair, dog hair and anything else that is on your carpet. It picks up an incredible amount of dirt. The canister is generous but of course not as big as some older, corded vacuums as we are all used to. But no complaints here. I do think the process for emptying it is a little more than need be. You really don't detach the chamber but rather the entire top piece and then the chamber has a bottom that just flips down and the trash just falls right out. I would prefer a separate chamber that detaches completely from the vacuum but honestly it is not that big of a deal. It is made up for by the super-flex ability of the unit to flex mid-point (hence the name "Multi-Flex" and go under just about any piece of furniture or area that needs cleaned! Its a really awesome feature that will take a while to get used to as I typically just think "Oh I can't get under that"..but now I can!
So all in all I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone, especially pet owners. The fantastic suction, long battery life, extra always-ready battery and overall light frame makes this a real winner in the vacuum world. If I could only use one vacuum this would be it. And coming from a man who owns a small room full of various vaccum cleaners (trust me, it's embarrassing) I think that is really saying something. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

A must have for workouts

I've got so many headphones for my phone and tablet so why would I need another? Simple, because I'm trying to get back into shape and I don't have time for wires is why I need a new set of wires. Plus, with my new Iphone Max X S I figured it was also time to pair the awesome new phone with some awesome new beats. My new routine is walking about 2 to 3 miles a day. I would be remiss if I just said I was doing this for my health, my work is offering a contest in which if you walk each day you can win $250. So there is that.. And to just walk without any music is sort of boring but by the same token you really need to be able to sort of hear what is going on around you when you're out and about so you don't end up as road kill. Enter the Plantronics BackBeat FIT 3100s. Plantronics has been on a bit of a roll lately as I just recently got their RIG 500 Pro HX headset for the Xbox One and it was awesome so I was optimistic these would be as well and guess what? They are.
For starters out of the box these are pretty awesome looking. They look like a $300-$400 pair of headphones so Plantronics definitely really nailed the aesthetics. The case is really cool too and when you open it up you realize it's not just a case but a charging station as well. Pairing these is pretty easy. I'll admit that it took me a few times pressing the button, it says to hold it for 2 seconds, it's more like 5 seconds in my opinion, but in the end it paired up nicely with my iPhone Max. There is no need for a special app to use these, they work just great once paired, but Plantronics does offer you an app with some basic abilities to re-assign functions of the buttons on the side of each of the headphones if you so desire. Speaking of which, the left side and right side both do different functions, one side is for volume control and the other side is for track control so you don't have to mess with your phone if you're out and about.
Now the music quality. As mentioned before these do not go all the way into your ear and create a hermetic seal but they do go into your ear. This allows you to hear music and your phone but also be able to hear around you. That is very important to know because of the advantages and disadvantages that brings to the table. The advantage is, as mentioned above, that it allows you to hear around you and not become roadkill. The disadvantage is you are simply not going to get quite as much volume or bass. However, the volume is plenty loud, so loud in fact when I gave these to my wife she complained they were too loud at the near loudest setting. But the lack of bass is there. There's sufficient bass of course but you're not going to be deep-banging bass to Public Enemy or 2Pac using these either.
For working out these are waterproof, clip around your ear and stay put, providing good sound and I think that's exactly what I was looking for when I looked at these initially. So if that is what you are looking for then come on in, the water is fine, but just be aware as to how these function and how they are a little different than most headphones in this genre. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Really awesome Coffee and Tea Maker!
on October 11, 2018
Posted by: Shaunh20
from Marysville, OH
I had given up coffee for a few years until my wife and I got a Keurig K-Cup Coffee and Tea maker for a wedding gift and I got back into it. Unfortunately K-Cups are pretty expensive and also limit your options so when I saw this was available I decided to take a chance on getting back into loose tea and coffee. This unit is very impressive out of the box and it's nice to, once again, have a clock and the ability to set a time for a morning brew. But heck, just having a clock is nice too. Setup is very easy but you'll want to read the manual for sure and keep it nearby when using until you get used to it. It's nice to have separate tea and coffee chambers to avoid cross contamination of taste. For starters my wife and I got some herbal tea and used it to brew. We noticed the "regular" cup sizes are small so we began using the XL size when we brew. It's really awesome to be able to brew all sorts of sizes though, something you are limited with the Keurig.
The taste of the tea was phenomenal and the ability to make it strong or weak is something we didn't realize we had been missing using the Keurig. We have been using this for over a week now and we both love it, we still do use the Keurig but won't be using it as often. It's nice to have both. One con is a couple of times we've had some of the water not pour through when making tea, getting caught up in the tea chamber. The drink still made and water still came through, just not all of it. I think that was my fault though for not getting the filter aligned 100% correct. But I've had it happen twice now. Plus another con is having to clean it out after each use, but it's very easy.
Overall this is a definite recommend from me, especially if you've just been using a Keurig for awhile. Keurig is nice but it's limited in function, thus the convenience though. But this gives you the ability to do a lot more experimenting and creating your own drinks. Speaking of which, the documentation comes with all sorts of really cool recipes, some involving alcohol which I really liked! Really cool!! Definitely check this out if you're a fan of cold brew as well as that's something our Keurig doesn't offer. Two thumbs up!

Very good value, lightweight headset!
on August 30, 2018
Posted by: Shaunh20
from Marysville, OH
I recently got into PC gaming which meant moving my $300 Astro A50's back to my PC, thus creating a need for headphones on the Xbox One X. Enter the Rig 500 Pro HX's. The price point of $79 is a good price point considering the value that they seemed to provide and the fact that I don't often use a headset while gaming except on the occasional chance when I play a team game with some friends. The Rig 500 Pro's showed up at my doorstop and I immediately tore open the package and began setting them up.
Setup was about as easy as it gets, take the headset out of the box, connect it up to your controller, redeem the included Atmos code in the Xbox store and then go through a guided setup from Dolby to configure your new headphones (note: if you have a Dolby Atmost receiver you can also use this code to configure Atmost on your receiver as well). But first I would be remiss if I didn't mention three things that are very impressive about these headsets and these are a few things you don't even need to put them on to know:
1. They are very light and do not weigh much at all!! I mean they may look like they're built like a tank or whatever but they barely weigh anything at all and are very light.
2. There is an adapter in the box for you to be able to use these with the PS4.
3. There is a way to use these with the PC, simply buy a cheap line to line stereo adapter and they do work on the PC.
Now getting back to the headset itself, upon putting them on my head initially I found the headset a little tight so I took them off and used the simple reconfig they have on the side to make them tighter or looser. If you look at the pictures of the headset you can see 3 notches on the side, you simply pull the headset out of the notch and move it up or down and then match it on the other side to either create a tighter, smaller headset or a more wide open, larger headset. It is very simple and easy to use and once I moved one notch down the headset felt very comfortable.
After a few minutes I was in the Dolby app going through the demos and was very, very impressed. I'd highly recommend you check out the demos in which you walk through the woods or the World of Warcraft video if you want to be blown away by just how fantastic Atmos can sound. Unfortunately Atmos is fairly limited in the real world but I knew just the game to test it with and that is Assassins Creed Origins. Firing that game up and going in was very impressive.
In games the headset gets very loud. The sound is very clear and I disagree with some reviewers that say these do not have enough bass. In my opinion too many headsets and headphones are boomy and muddled with an over abundance of bass. I think that is what many people today, especially younger people, expect to hear. This headset has proper bass. Now with that being said this is a headset designed to use with games and it sounds excellent across the board with games but with music your mileage may vary. It's not an audiophile headset and if you just want to game and listen to some music it'll do just fine (and that is exactly what I do when I relax) but it's really meant more for games and not just sitting around listening to music.
One other thing to mention: these do have an in-line mic monitoring. I've seen some folks say it doesn't and there's nothing in the ads or on the box saying it does but it is in the Xbox settings. If you're not familiar with what that is, it is the ability to hear yourself speak when you have the headphones on by the mic feeding back what you say. That way when you have the headset on you aren't speaking too loudly to others because you cannot hear your voice. And speaking of which, I did play some Madden with some friends and all of them said they could hear me perfectly fine so the microphone seems to work pretty good, no crackling, buzzing or anything of that nature.
The only real cons I can think of are twofold. First, the music volume control that plugs into the Xbox One controller is kind of strange in that when you go to adjust it once you reach the maximum volume if you turn it just slightly more then whole thing comes out of the controller. It needs to somehow stay in the controller a little better. My advice is to max out the volume on the actual controller via the headset and use the Xbox volume control to adjust your volume. The second, and last, con I can think of is that my ears can sometimes get a bit warm in these. However, I have always had that issue with just about any set of headphones or headsets so I think that's just me. I have never gotten overly hot though enough to be bothered and have gamed for hours at a time using these so I don't think this is a real con for most folks, but worth mentioning.
I'd highly recommend these to anyone looking for a good, across the board, set of gaming headphones to use on your Xbox One, PS4 or PC. No they aren't the same quality level as my Astro A50's but they are going to work great for most people. They are an incredible value and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to go pick up a pair. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Fantastic scanner that seems to do it all..quickly
on August 30, 2018
Posted by: Shaunh20
from Marysville, OH
I got this scanner because my wife and I have a LOT of receipts that we need to get organized and this scanner seemed to be a good choice based upon its brand reputation, my prior experience with Epson, the speed at which it would scan documents and the software that came with it allowing for easy filing and sorting of scanned documents. My main trepidation was setting the software up because reading previous reviews of scanners in general it seemed it could be quite difficult. Although I am very computer savvy, at my age I don't like wasting a lot of my limited free time fooling with configuration issues and I'm sure many of you out there do not either.
The scanner arrived and out of the box I was impressed with just how small it was. This is a very small footprint. The instructions were pretty much idiot proof across the board using pictures to guide you. The only question I had was pulling out the "ears" that hold the back of the paper was not really shown too well and I had to look at it for a few minutes before I figured out how to pull them up to set it up correctly. Once that was done connecting it to my wi-fi was quite easy using the app. No problems whatsoever and way easier than 99% of everything else I have setup like this. So if you're worried about this being a bear of a setup, worry no more as it is quite easy.
Using the scanner is great, it has PDF software included that is quite good and when you scan documents you can setup a certain folder for everything to go to. Of course there are a variety of methods to use to store documents in but I think including the default de-facto standard of PDF is a good one. Scanning is incredibly fast, to the point of, as one reviewer said, watch out for a paper cut because once you feed this little guy the paper he will suck it in pretty quick. When the scanner scans the document it does both sides all at once which is great too. The scans come in very clear and you can edit them to a large degree within the PDF software included ("Power PDF").
This is a great scanner backed by a great company (I also use the Epson printer line and would recommend them as the printer of choice as well after using printers for over 30 years) and one that I would highly recommend if you are looking to take charge of some of your receipts or just, whatever you may need a scanner for. It is certainly not the cheapest one on the market at $399 but you get what you pay for and this scanner is well worth the price. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

An amazingly light, beautiful speed demon!
on July 25, 2018
Posted by: Shaunh20
from Marysville, OH
I recently got a large laptop for gaming but needed something for on-the-go that was lightweight and portable but yet powerful. I have been eyeballing the new Macs but they are just too expensive so I was looking for something much like it. The HP Envy x360 first caught my attention a few months ago on CNET and I thought I'd give it a try. The AMD Ryzen 5 would be my first attempt to go with an AMD machine since my disastrous Falcon Northwest back in 2005 which did not go well. But considering the price/value and the years since I figured I would give AMD a try once again. A solid state drive was a no-brainer and I really did not need a big hard drive since I hadn't planned on using this system for games or anything heavy hitting.
Once I received the HP Envy x360 I must say that I was very, very impressed with the very beautiful aesthetics of the machine. Sure the Macs are beautiful and pretty much the standard for how a minimalist but yet powerful machine should look but the HP Envy matches it and, in some ways, even surpasses it. Setting it up was very easy and took minimal input from me. It was really nice to be able to fire it up, it boot very fast (that SSD, wow) and then answered some questions via Cortana and we were in Windows 10 and up and running in no time. Sure we had some updates to do and some drivers, etc to download so that took a couple of hours but it all was stuff that ran in the background while I watched TV and tinkered on my desktop. The HP Envy does come with some HP utilities installed but they seemed to be quite useful and unlike many of Dell's offerings I actually left most everything on the machine with the exception of the McAfee Virus software 30 day trial which was uninstalled and replaced with Bitdefender. Everything else was left on and seemed quite useful (utilities to demonstrate how to use the notebook, diagnostic tools, ways to contact HP, etc).
Having had the machine up and running now for over a week I can say that it's super fast, probably the fastest machine I have ever run, aside from my SSD based desktop, and fully functional with really no issues at all. The face scanning software that the PC uses to unlock the laptop works phenomenally well, not once did it ever fail even when I was unshaven, shaven and everything in between. I really like that software and am actually considering buying some form of it for my desktop. The touch screen works amazingly well too, although I've not had the opportunity to use the stylus on the screen as that is an additional $69 (although check your model as some models do come with the stylus)
The only real negatives I can think of in regards to this machine is, again it is not a gaming notebook. The video memory is low (2Gb) and there just isn't a lot of hard drive space to install much games. I believe I had about 70Gb free on the 128Gb hard drive once I was completely done installing all of my apps, virus checker, etc. Now as for it not running games: I mean modern games like Forza Motorsport 7, Overwatch, PUBG, etc. It runs Candy Crush and typical "light" games quite well. Speaking of graphics, the display, of course, is absolutely stunning.
If you're looking for an on-the-go notebook I'd highly recommend the HP Envy x360. With incredible speed, absolutely stunning graphics, a light & portable design, beautiful aesthetics and outrageously long (12-13 hours) of battery life I cannot recommend it enough. Just be aware you may need to add an external drive of some sort if you use many apps, or just go ahead and get a bigger SSD, like the 256Gb version, out of the box. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

A great, unique way to do camera'ing!

I have gotten a lot of cameras over the last couple of years but none like Guardzilla. I wanted Guardzilla to be a comprehensive solution to my home security. The plan was to put a camera on my front stoop to alert me to visitors and give me the ability to communicate with them if needed. Receiving the Guardzilla it came in a huge package that really gave off a cool vibe. It felt less a camera and more like receiving a new computer or something. Very cool.
Setting it up was incredibly easy compared to other cameras. The camera was found right away and I was up and running in just a few minutes using my Apple iPhone 6 Plus and Ipad Pro Plus. One note though, the app search for "Guardzilla" found nothing in the Apple store but going to the Guardzilla site as noted in the setup docs and clicking on Guardzilla app for iOS found it without issue and I was off and running. One last note on the setup, the camera does use a rather loud voice so maybe don't set it up while having a hangover and trying to not wake the wife in the next room ;)
Once I was running the interface of the app was fairly easy to setup and use. The SET POV sometimes seemed to revert to a view that skewed downward but that was fixed in an update. Everything was up and running in no time but I quickly noticed one issue: no video clips were showing up in my events log. When you set up the system it gives you several options, one of those being free video clips for 2 days at 30 seconds a clip. There are other, better pay options to pay for longer storage save times and even options for remote home security monitoring as the professional services such as ADT do. But where are the clips? I could not locate them no matter what I did. I decided to give it a rest and work on it the next day.
The next day I woke up and realized I had gotten an email from an Emma at Guardzilla customer service who welcomed me to the Guardzilla family and hoped that if I had any questions I would contact them. Well, perfect timing! So I did write back to Emma and asked how do I view the video clips? Well to my surprise within about 30 minutes I got a reply and we started working to resolve the issue. After several emails back and forth we did resolve the issue by me allowing Guardzilla to push a new software version to my camera. So the customer service was incredibly good. They worked with me extensively, on a timely basis to resolve my issue and I cannot state just how much this means to me because in this day and age such great customer service is not the norm, it's a very rare exception.
Once the camera was up and running I did take the time to note just how awesome it was that you could swirl the camera up, down and all around to see everything in the vicinity. Very amazing. Yes the resolution could be a slight bit better but the ability to see such a comprehensive view makes it very well worth it. The siren that is in the unit is loud but not ear splitting like my home alarm but it will do the job I think. It also gives you the ability to set how long the alarm runs in case you want to shorten it or make it longer. The entire app gives you a good amount of flexibility in how you want to use the camera which is great I think.
So bottom line? Honestly I was going to rate this camera four stars because it does seem to have a few issues with the software (the POV not staying, my issue with the camera clips, etc) but nothing that is a dealbreaker. It just seems new and in need of some software updates. But with the excellent customer service that Guardzilla gave to me, not only friendly but fast and smart customer service, I raised my rating to five stars. If not for that I'd wonder if the camera and the app was going to get those needed updates, but considering how on the ball the Guardzilla company is I have no doubt that they will do so.
Listen, the mere fact that the company stands behind its product and really seems to care that they keep customers and make them happy goes a long way toward obtaining my future business and should be strongly considered if you are on the fence for a security camera. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Unleash the power of the Samsung 980 PRO with Heatsink for next-level computing. With a PCIe® 4.0 NVMe™ interface, get up to 2x the data transfer rate of PCIe® 3.0¹ while remaining compatible with PCIe® 3.0. ¹Results are based on a comparison with Samsung PCIe® 3.0 NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs.

Anyone know if the heatsink is easily removable in case I want to use it in a gaming laptop? I am not sure this will fit my laptop 2nd bay, Asus ROG m16 SSD slot. Thanks!

I don't imagine it would be that difficult to remove, however, I have read that in doing so you will invalidate your warranty. I'd look for a similar drive without a heatsink.

Is this product has app that can be accessed from cell phone? All I want is to have a control from my cell phone when to allow the kids to access internet or to limit their game time. Such as if I can set a certain time limit for the specific game.

Yes you have an app to control the device on your phone. You cannot set a time limit for a certain game on Xbox but you can set a time limit for the Xbox.

The Best Buy Tech Insider program is likely where most reviews are coming from. The people in the program get these products sometimes right before, or when, the product releases.
