Clean fur, dust and dander quickly with this Hoover REACT cordless pet vacuum. Integrated sensors automatically adjust the level of suction and the brush roll speed to handle different floor types. Hoover REACT Whole Home Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum Cleaner
The first thing I noticed when the vacuum arrived was how heavy the box was. Knowing this is a cordless model, the shipping weight was a bit of a surprise. Figuring out how to open the box took longer than actually putting the unit together. Also, the box is paced with pieces on both sides of the formed inner piece, not all on top as one might expect.
You need to charge the battery when before you first use it, they say let it go for 3 hours but the charger showed a full charge within an hour.
With a full charge, I set out to vacuum my apartment. You have to hit the trigger twice to keep the vacuum running, otherwise you have to hold the trigger continuously. The battery had enough power to clean my whole apartment and it was really nice not being tethered by a cord.
The FloorSense technology sounds good and works sometimes. I found it kept switching while I was cleaning. I think it’s one of those features that sounds good on paper but really, just let me control the brush roll myself.
Speaking of controlling the vacuum, the phone app is a waste of time. It gives you the same brush controls as you find on the handle unit and takes you to the hoover site to purchase replacement parts. I guess if you were programming a robot vacuum it might be ok but you are not missing anything if you don’t bother with it. I would have rather they reduce the cost of this vacuum than worry about an app. Also, in case you were wondering, it does connect to the unit via Bluetooth and the unit has to be running to connect.
There are two headlights on the brush which cast a yellow glow and they don’t cover the whole width of the brush which is a little confusing when looking for dirt or the vacuum path.
The React Whole home vacuum comes with a smaller power brush head for stairs which is also great for couches and chairs. This is larger than some of the other power heads, similar to the size of a dirt devil. There are a host of other tools as well to make this a well-rounded whole house cleaner. It works well on bare floors with the brush roll at low speed.
For all the great things the Hoover React has to offer, the biggest setback for me is the design of the dust cup. To empty it, you simply press the unlock button, the flap pops open and the dirt falls out. Except, all the dirt and fibers that don’t. This is my biggest problem with the Hoover React cordless. The dust bin does not come off the unit, rather the battery and motor head pop off but the dust cup stays attached to the pole. When you take the motor head off, you then need to pop out the filter and insides to brush off the fibers that stick to the screen, and you need to do this with EVERY empty. For a vacuum that is meant for pets, this is the least friendly feature and enough for me to say no.
The vacuum comes with a holder that needs to be attached to a wall. The React cordless will stand on its own leaning against a wall if its on carpet providing some friction. If its on a bare floor, you need to attach the holder otherwise the unit will slide down and end up on the floor.
Conclusion
The Hoover REACT Whole Home Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum Cleaner is a very capable cleaner and can tackle just about any part of your home you put it to. Run-time lives up to its 30-minute rating and the battery recharges in just a few hours. My biggest issue is how it handles the dirt and dumping it. I understand having to deep clean the dust container occasionally, I have a Dyson and a few other bag less vacuums, but every time you use the Hoover is a bit too much. Also make the dust cup easer to remove and separate from the whole cleaner.
I love the many attachments and versatility and would recommend it if the dust bin issue and headlights were re-thought.
As purchased, I cannot recommend the Hoover REACT Whole Home Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum Cleaner and feel there are better options available at a lesser cost point.

What is there to say, it’s a Norelco.

I’ve tried many trimmers and always go back to Norelco. The motor is strong and the blades are sharp, cutting through my beard and hair like a hot knife through butter. There is a nice selection of guards that snap on the blades rather than one adjustable guard. This is not a problem for me as I generally use one length and put the rest in the bag. The Multigroom 5000 also comes with an additional wider blade for cutting hair, a precision blade which is about a half inch wide for detail trimming and a round blade for trimming ear and nose hair.
The trimmer is rechargeable and says a full charge will provide about 3 hours of run time. The first charge is still going strong with over a week of daily beard trimming. You can also use it with the cord which is a really nice feature should you forget to charge it. Speaking of charging, my only complaint about this trimmer is there is no charging indicator. You simply plug it in for an hour and it’s supposed to be good to go.
Watch out when you open the package, most of the guards are packaged under the tray and will fall to the floor if you just slide it out.
Pros:
3 hour run time on a one hour charge
Corded use when needed
Sharp blades & strong motor
4-year warranty
Price/value
Cons:
No charging indicator
Lots of pieces.
Packaging
I highly recommend this trimmer!

Bose soundlink micro
The first thing I noticed when I opened the box, other than how great the packaging is, is the feel of the Bose SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker. The build is solid, the silicone skin just feels good in your hand and the weight is surprising for how small this speaker is. Like my other SoundLink speakers, the battery needed charged right out of the box. The battery life is rated at six hours. I played the speaking throughout the weekend on one charge. It comes with a USB cable but no charger, which shouldn’t be a problem as most have several laying around from other devices.
There is no NFC pairing but the speaker paired with everything I threw at it with ease.
The most important issue, how does it sound? AMAZING! This little speaker kicks out some room-filling volume with a clarity and fullness that is definitely Bose. The sound coming from this little speaker is so immersive and full, stereo sound is a non-issue. Once again you wonder how so much bass is possible from such a small speaker!
There is an app for this speaker, Bose Connect but its pretty lackluster, only offering volume and connectivity options, oh and you can use it to rename the device and select the voice language. I’m convinced the attitude at Bose is “we know how your music is supposed to sound” and you’re going to like it. I would have like to have seen the app allow some sound adjustment for the speaker, similar to the Sony app that lets you adjust the Extra Bass and add sound profiles.
The app also allows you to pair two speakers together for Party Mode or left and right channels. I paired the SoundLind Micro and a SoundLink Revolve. This also allowed me to compare the sound of the two speakers. I have to say other than the directional difference between the revolve’s 360 design and the Micro’s direct facing, the sound is clearly Bose and almost identical between the two.
I found the Party Mode to have a bit of an echo between the two speakers, which may be the way it is intended. The stereo mode worked flawlessly, even with the mismatched devices. A nice touch or reason to grab a second speaker!
There are three buttons (volume up and down and multi-purpose) on the top of the speaker and power, Bluetooth link and the mini usb power jack on the top edge. The multi-purpose button is used to pause, select next track or go back, by pressing once, twice or three times in succession, similar to the button on iPod headphones.
As the other Bose Bluetooth speakers, the Micro also acts as a speaker phone if you have it paired with your phone. The microphone was clear, the person on the other end of the call was able to hear the conversation with out issue.
Aside from the amazing sound, the defining feature of the Bose SoundLink Micro is that it’s not just water resistant but water proof, and Yes, I had to try this out. I dumped the Micro in a bowl of water and it kept on playing, unbothered by its new surroundings. I pulled it out of its batch, shook the excess water off, towel dried it and its good as new.
The silicone strap on the bottom of the unit is quite strong and holds the speaker to the handle bar of my mountain bike with no problem, keeping the speaker upright and stable enough to push the volume buttons.
Conclusion: Get two! This is the best sounding speaker of its size I’ve heard.

Pictures don’t do this cleaning machine justice.

After years of watching the Shark infomercials on tv, convinced they were just over-price 2nd rate equipment. I can tell you with the Shark Flex DuoClean, I’m a believer.
Yes, you have to snap the pieces together once you take them out of the box. It was very intuitive and took longer to get everything out of the box then it did to put it together and begin sweeping.
The build of the DuoClean is solid and well done. The cord is long enough to clean almost my whole 2-bedroom apartment without having to change plugs.
As soon as I got the unit built, I had to plug it in and start sweeping. The Shark has a two-position thumb switch which is well placed and easy to use. The switch controls the rotation speed on the power head as the base only has one speed. The first position turns on the vacuum motor and the power head to a low speed which is perfect for bare floors. The second position speeds up the power head beaters but the vacuum head stays the same.
When you switch the unit on the the 2nd position, hold on to it tight! The beater bars have a bit of grab to them and pull the power head with some decent force. Sweeping my regular pile carpet was fairly effortless for me but could pose a bit of difficulty for some who may be of smaller stature or perhaps a bit older. This is due to the power head grab more so than the weight of the unit. Pulling it back against the pull of the beater bar will give you a work out. The power head is smaller than a full-size sweeper but was perfect for my needs. The other great thing is the height/thickness of it. I was able to get under several pieces of furniture that my other cleaners were just to large for. Another nice feature of this is the gold tube bends in the middle to make it easier to get under furniture without bending over. Again, the force of the power head makes this somewhat difficult and a two-handed operation. This bendable joint is also how the sweeper folds over for storage.
There is a clear bag less dirt container which is very easy to remove from the device and empties with the push of a lever. Like all bag less cleaners, dumping these in the trash can make a bit of a dust cloud so be gentile. I was able to clean my whole apartment without having to empty it but your mileage will vary.
For surfaces other than carpet, the Shark Flex comes with combo tools for crevices, upholstery and a really cool attachment to clean under appliances and furniture that the power head wont fit under. It’s a long flat piece that has an opening at the end. The crevice tool has a dusting brush that slides up and locks into place and the upholstery/pet tool has a ring of stiff bristles that snap off. These all fit on the motor head and are easy to use. There is a bag to hold them in.
Over all, I was really impressed with the Shark Flex DuoClean upright and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sweeper for a smaller house or apartment or as an addition to the larger sweeper for those quick pick-ups.

Everything you love about Keurig and more
on September 1, 2017
Posted by: RonH
from Washington DC
The Keurig K-Select is the brands latest entry in their classic single serve brewer line.
The K-Select brewer has four brew sizes to choose from, including the larger 12oz mug size. It has a 52 oz water reservoir which allows for five cups of coffee before needing refilled, it has an indent making it easy to handle and includes a charcoal filter to help remove bad tastes from tap water. The box also includes 6 sample pods to get you started and introduce you to their products.
If you’ve ever used a Keurig, you already know how to brew a cup of coffee with this machine. Lift the handle, put a K-cup in the chamber, close the handle and push the button appropriate for the cup size desired.
The difference with this model is that you no longer have to wait for the water to heat up prior to selecting your brew size, simply push the power button, load the K-cup and push your size. The water heats then makes the brew.
The next difference with this model is the “Strong Brew” button. Pressing this button slows the brew cycle allowing the water to mingle with the coffee longer to make the brew stronger. For a 12 oz mug, it changes the brew time from just under one minute to approximately one minute 50 seconds. I don't know if I’m on board with this using K-Cups pods but find it does make a stronger brew using refillable pods and works well allowing a finer (espresso) grind coffee.
The machine has an auto-off feature but does not have an auto-on timer, though it really doesn't need it due to the changes noted above.
Pros:
Strong Brew button
New push to start
Included water filter
Easy to handle water container
Compact size
Variety of K-Cup pods available
Convenience
Works with refillable pods
Cons:
K-Cup pods still use plastic and are a pain to recycle.
The cost of convenience - K-Cup pods can be expensive.
(refillable pods solve both of these concerns)
I recommend the Keurig K-Select classic brewer for anyone looking to make their first jump into the Keurig

McDonalds it's not...

I’ve been considering an air fryer for some time and glad I got the DeLonghi MultiFry.
What sets the DeLonghi apart from the others are two heating elements, one fan forced on the top and a 2nd element on the bottom of the machine to heat products from both sides. and it has a stirring blade that spins around the cooking bowl to move the product for even cooking.
There is also an included cook book which has some great looking recipes that I will be trying.
The top fan forced element has 4 heat settings and the bottom is either on or off.
There is a small timer recessed in the front of the unit which is removable so you can take it with you to keep track of the time. It does not shut off the cooker.
The cooking bowl has a fold down handle that pops up to remove the bowl from the unit. And the mixing blade pops out of the bowl so you can make baked items, although I didn’t try this yet.
The first thing I made with it was store-brand frozen tater tots thinking they would turn out pretty good; not so much. As the tots began thawing and cooking, the spinning blade just pushed them around, ultimately making crumbles rather than tots. Some shredded cheese and the microwave solved this problem though. The taste was good, the presentation was a bit lacking.
My second attempt with the MultiFryer was frozen meatballs and spaghetti sauce. This worked better. The meatballs got a nice crust on them, then I added a jar of sauce and let it simmer. Not as fast as stove top but the meatballs had a better bite to them.
Finally, what seems to be the products namesake, French fries. I cut two all-purpose potatoes and placed them in the bowl, used about 2 tablespoons of oil, put the top heat on 4 and the bottom heat on. The fries came out ok, some were nice and crispy but a small bunch did not. These were the fries that just rode around the bowl; pushed by the spinning blade. It didn’t have enough umph I guess to actually toss them so they got stuck in the heap. They were cooked and edible, just not as crispy.
I like the DeLonghi MultiFryer and am looking to try many of the items in the cook book. I don’t like that the heat is adjusted 1-4 and not by temperature and I don’t like the timer. It’s cute and tells time but I would have preferred it to shut the machine off. DeLonghi says you can make pizza and bake cakes in it but not sure what happens with the flat nipple that holds the agitator arm for these. It also takes a long time to cook fries but considering warm up time for an oil fryer, it is probably a wash.
I would recommend this product, especially for someone who wants to be creative and try different foods to put it through its paces. Also, if there are not enough recipes to suit your taste, search YouTube for it, there is a user who has videos on a bunch of recipes that show what this unit can do.

Big size, big sound
on July 24, 2017
Posted by: RonH

The Nyne Rebel Bluetooth speaker isn’t something you are going to throw in a back pack and carry around. It is a speaker you will use in the back yard or pack in the car and take with you. (It does have a cool handle so you could carry it around if that’s your thing)
The speaker case is plastic and has a smooth rubbery touch and feels solid. There are small rubber feet to keep it from sliding off table. The soft-touch buttons line the top of the speaker and are back-lit, a really cool touch. It is also rated water, dust and shock resistant. I’m not one to chance it but it is nice to know getting caught in a rain storm won’t damage the speaker.
Pairing was as simple as touching my phone to the right side of the speaker and following the prompts on the screen.
The reason you buy a speaker though is for how it sounds, and the Rebel doesn’t disappoint! The sound is crisp and the bass is rich and room shaking, firing out of each end of the unit. You would never know the unit is plastic.
Volume is incredible and will fill a baseball field, volley ball game or camp site with clear sound all the way to the top of its range. It also sounds great at its lowest volume and could be used indoors as well.
The Rebel, like most Bluetooth speakers has a microphone and doubles as a hands-free speaker phone should you get a call while using it. Call clarity was decent and usable.
An added feature on the Rebel is that it doubles as a battery pack that can charge your device while it streams music. On the battery, I was able to play the unit for about 8 hours and still had power to spare.
The Rebel comes with a wall wart charger and assorted adapter plugs to accommodate various countries. I would have like to have seen a 12-volt car charger included since it seems this speaker was designed to be used outdoors.
There is not much to be disappointed about with the Nyne Rebel. My only issue is the unit doesn’t use a universal USB charger.
I would recommend the Nyne Rebel for anyone who likes loud music with thumping bass.

Excellent low-cost ear buds
on July 13, 2017
Posted by: RonH
from Washington DC
I was impressed with the sound from the JBuds Pro Signature Wireless In-Ear Earbud Headphones. Nice bass, balanced nicely with highs and mid-tones. Not tinny or cheap sounding at all. Volume was more than adequate to blow your eardrums if desired. When starting to play the volume ramps up rather than just kicking in. Comparing these to a much more expensive set of “sport” buds, these are clearly better.
There are three sets of different sized jell spacers along with two sizes of “fins” to assist in keeping these buds in your ears. The medium size jell held the buds firmly in my ears without the fins. I was not concerned with them falling out while running and exercising. The connecting cord is long enough to place either behind your head or hanging down under your chin and there is an included clip to clip it to a shirt collar if desired. I am concerned with how thin the wire is and how long it may take to break a connection though.
The earbuds pair quickly and have a decent line-of-sight distance. I use them mostly with an iPod mini, keeping it in my front pant pocket the signal will occasionally cut out but works fine from my front shirt pocket. These, like most earbuds, work best with your device close or in an arm band.
The battery charges pretty quickly and lasts through two hour long commutes and an hour lunch with no problem.
The microphone worked well, not as clear as the phone but was understandable and acceptable.
JLAB also has an app for your phone which has a “burn-in” feature that is supposed to exercise the drivers. It crashed my android phone but worked fine on my iPhone. It suggests to run the test sound for 40 or so hours. Not sure the juice is worth squeeze on this one. It also is a sales tool for their other products.
At this price point, I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for an inexpensive set of earbuds. I give these 5 stars, not because they are the best headphones ever but for the value vs sound they provide.

WOW

What an amazing little computer! The InfinityEdge screen is a thing of beauty! The picture is sharp, bright and just amazing, and this is just the FHD 1920x1080 model.
The unit ships with Windows 10 but does not include the latest update so it took about an hour for initial setup and updates. Dell includes a 12-month subscription to McAfee® LiveSafe and a Microsoft Office trial. The installed office suite is 32bit and will need to be uninstalled prior to installing 64bit if that’s what you choose. I’m not a fan of McAfee products and will most likely uninstall it and just use windows defender which has worked fine for me so far.
I was concerned about compatibility with my existing peripherals as this unit only has two USB C jacks and was relieved to see a USB C to USB 3 adapter was included in the box.
The back-lit keyboard is usable and the keys have a good solid touch to them, making it easy for touch typists.
The trackpad is a decent size but I struggle with it with taps. Not sure if that’s due to the OS or the hardware. It does recognize gestures and you can customize the three and four finger swipes.
I’ve only had the laptop for a couple of days and the battery life is really good. It lasted a whole day at the office on one charge.
The finger print reader has been spot on, recognizing my programmed fingers on the first try every time.
The processor is an I7 at 1.6 GHz with turbo boost to 3.6 GHz. I was able to edit video using the latest Adobe Premiere Pro although it was made somewhat difficult due to the screen size and track pad, the laptop was able to handle it easily. The computer also plays back full screen video with ease.
This is a 2-1 and the display flips back and folds flat against the keyboard. When this happens, the OS automatically changes from laptop to tablet mode, shutting the keyboard off. It supports a pen but needs to be purchased separately from Dell. This uses a Wacom digitizer and I’m told it will work with any pen made for that technology. I can tell you a Microsoft Surface pen does not work and neither does the older pen used on the Dell Venue Pro 8. I imagine there are times when this will be useful but the screen size makes it just look awkward, sort of like an 8.5x14 piece of paper.
There is a memory card slot but it’s for the MicroSD cards. I used this to create the recovery software and other than taking quite a while, it worked fine. I believe the time was just the OS and nothing to do with the hardware or card used.
There are speakers and they have a decent volume but the sound is somewhat tinny.
Overall this is one solid laptop and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs something this size. I am looking forward to traveling with this laptop, replacing my 2011 MacBook Pro!
Pros:
Solid build, look and feel.
Screen, even though the description incorrectly states it’s the QHD+, it is not, it is the FHD, it is AMAZING
Keyboard. It is a bit smaller than the MacBook Pro but still very usable and excellent key response and feel.
Battery life.
Charging from either side via the USB C connector.
Included USB C to USB 3 adapter
Totally silent. All this power and no fans needed for cooling. This means the unit does get a bit warm when sitting in your lap.
Cons:
Trackpad, again not sure if it’s a setting or the hardware. I will most likely use a Bluetooth mouse.
No pen included

The Magnifi Mini home theater sound bar system delivers big room-filling audio and surround sound experience you’d expect from a full-size sound bar—all in an ultra-compact design that fits any space. Polk’s exclusive Voice Adjust technology dramatically increases vocal clarity and volume level for crystal clear dialogue no matter what you’re watching. Plus, our patented surround technology and Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding creates incredible room-filling surround sound all from a sound bar that is less than 15” long. Compatible with nearly all TVs, the universal sound bar works with your TV, cable box or satellite IR remote control and features simple setup in minutes with the included HDMI cable. The powerful wireless subwoofer delivers deep impactful bass to your favorite movies, TV, games, sports and music too. And if volume’s too loud during late night viewing, Night Mode lets you easily watch your favorite programs at night without waking the neighbors or other family members in your home. What’s more, bring the concert into your room with wireless music streaming via WiFi, Google Cast and Bluetooth. Whatever you do, just don’t let the MagniFi Mini’s small size fool you—this is that big Polk sound you love from a little bar.

Decent sound bar for small spaces

In the box
The box is large but the units inside are much smaller and packed very well. There is a power brick and cord for the speaker and power cord for the sub. For connecting the unit, Polk has included the HDMI cable, a 3.5mm analog stereo mini-jack and the toslink optical cable. There is also the remote and batteries.
Setup
Connecting the Magnifi Mini is pretty straight forward. Plug in the sub-woofer, Connect the power brick to the speaker and plug it in. Connection between the speaker and sub is wireless and pre-matched so there is no fumbling to connect the two. Choose HDMI, optical or analog and plug it in.
A word of caution here though, if you connect this to an HDMI or optical source that does not turn off, the unit will not turn off either. I had initially connected this to my cable box, which I do not turn off, and the unit kept turning back on. Tech support indicated this is supposed to happen.
In addition to the 3 hard wire methods, the Magnifi Mini also has Bluetooth and google Chromecast which can be hard wired with an either net cable or by Wi-Fi.
Looks
The speaker itself is about a foot wide, 3 inches high and about 5 inches deep. I can pick it up with one hand. It’s made of plastic but has a good solid feel and has some weight to it. The sub is black plastic with a downward firing speaker.
There is a vertical LED display that uses dots and color to indicate connectivity, volume and settings.
The remote is well thought out and easy to handle. There is no back lighting but it's not really needed. The volume is a trough in the middle with a separator between up and down. The mode buttons are across the top, bass selection on the left side and voice level on the right.
Sound & Modes
There are three preset modes, movie, sports and music. The sport preset raises the voice and mid-tones. I prefer this for my listening taste over the others.
The volume is perfect for my small apartment living room. Surround sound would be nice but this does the trick.
Google
I used my Google home app to connect to the speakers and it went smoothly. Once the Chromecast was connected to the network it updated the software. Chromecast works great, no problems to report. I cast through the google home app and no trouble to report.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth connections also work great. Pairing was a simple as pressing a button. I Connected this to my Amazon Echo Dot and it works flawlessly.
The only faults I have with this unit are the remote control and volume control levels. The remote design is well thought out but the actions are very slow and sluggish. The volume control has 5 LEDs but seem to have mid levels. It appears levels 1-3 are very low, 4 & 5 get very loud. There is really no comfortable middle level.
Pros:
Looks
Size
Sound
Cons:
Remote
Volume control

Can this stove be used on a deck?

Per the instructions, this should be placed on a non-flammable surface like concrete and not used on decks, either wood or composite wood. While this is a compact unit, it does get very hot.
