Good Vacuum, but goes it's own way

We had been looking at several brands of robotic vacuums for a while when this one got presented by Shark, we were really looking forward to getting this unboxed and in service. The robot itself is mostly ABS plastic but is put together well. We went through the instructions and completed what little assembly was required (mostly removing packing tape and attaching the side brushes. We set up the dock that it uses to recharge and set it to recharge. It took an hour or so for the initial charge and we set it loose. It made it's way through one room, but seemed to stay mostly in there not moving to other rooms. We let it run by itself for over 1 and a half hours and it did finally move to the other rooms but it was hit and miss. It did, however, pick up a lot of dust and dog hair (we have a Corgi). In that regard it worked well. We downloaded the Shark app and used it to turn on, initiate a cleaning and send it back to it's dock. You can schedule cleanings, remotely start cleanings and/or send it to it's dock and get notifications of issues the robot is having. You cannot, however, use the app to steer or direct the robot. You must use boundary "tape" that you place on the floor to limit where it travels. The app also has the manuals, tips and of course a link for additional Shark products. Back to the vacuum, it has only gotten stuck once or twice which I thought was good in the 10 times or so it has ran around our house. It sometimes loses it's way back to the dock and needs a little assistance. But it did clean well where it cleaned, and the dirt tray was easy to remove and clean out. The filter has to be brushed off as it gets coated with dust pretty quickly. It has two of the "side brushes" that push dirt and dust to the center where the brush roller is. We have seen other models that only have one, and this seems to be a better idea. As this is our first robot we cannot compare it to others but I can say we are happy with ours. With a few adjustments here and there and the ability for the app to steer or set limits to areas it would be perfect. Good Shopping!

Does What Exactly What It's Supposed To!

I got the MyQ Smart Hub to meet two issues that we seem to always have at my house. First, did we close the garage door when we left and are twenty miles down the road and, secondly, where the heck is the garage door opener?? This amazing device answers both of these questions like a champ! It arrived in a fairly small box that made me wonder at first about it's capabilities. I opened it and found all I needed to get started right away. I took the time (this time) to read the instructions before starting and they seemed pretty straightforward. The only major hiccup that I didn't see coming was my garage door opener is not a newer one (about 10 years old) so I was worried about the ability for it to sync with the MyQ. After testing that I did indeed have Wi-Fi in my garage, I downloaded the Chamberlain MyQ app on my phone and began the setup process. I had to find my ladder in order to push the security button on the garage door opener and screw the mount into the ceiling for the main MyQ module, but that was the extent of the hard part. The MyQ app found the module right away and amazingly also operated my garage door! I put the sensor module on the garage door with the supplied double-sided tape and I was in business! Now, with the app, I can check the status of the garage door anywhere and can open/close the door with the app. You can set up alerts and schedule openings/closings of the door (if you need that). I set it up so that if I open the door and forget to close it, it closes itself after a predetermined amount of time. So, is it a good product? I would say that it has met and exceeded my expectations! If you have an older model garage door opener (a lot of the newest ones have this type of ability built in) this is a must buy. My wife tends to make hundreds of Philippine Lumpia (egg rolls) at a time. The prep work for this involves slicing LOTS of veggies. After a marathon cooking day or two, she would complain of pain in her hands and wrists from all the slicing and dicing. In comes the Philips Viva Collection chopper. My wife unpacked it and got it ready for a test drive. At first, she couldn't get the top to screw onto the cup but then realized that it just sits on it and you push it down to engage the motor. She complained here was no on/off switch prior to that, but once she got the operation down, she was off to the races. So now, onions, carrots, potatoes and all the other sliced ingredients of Lumpia are no longer my wife's pain. The chopper does an excellent job of both large and small, with two different sized blades for different types of materials needing chopped. This is now one of the most utilized appliances in our kitchen! Thanks Philips!

Good Shaver, Great Cleaner

As a previous electric razor user, I had gotten used to the type of shave that most of these items produce. Some provide a very good shave but most are no where near the quality of a bladed shave. The downside to bladed shaves is the cost for consumables (blades). Based on this I wanted to give this product a try and see if the technology had, in fact, increased enough to rival a bladed shave. The packaging and contents were well put together and everything was there. I unboxed the product and was able to put things together pretty quickly without reviewing the owner's manual. Once set-up, I did a once over with the manual to make sure I had everything right. It takes a while for you skin to get used to an electric razor so I knew this was going to take a little while to see true results from the product. After using it a week I can say that this is overall a very good shaver. It did a pretty good job on the easy areas and fairly well on harder areas (neck, chin, etc.) The shaver has a "turbo" mode which I left it in most of the time as it did a better overall shave in this mode. This model comes with a cleaner/charger stand that operated great and cleaned the shaver well. In fact, this was the highlight of the system for me. Being able to keep the shaver charged (it won't work if it's plugged in, but has a quick charge mode) and clean at the same time is phenomenal! I cleaned it after every shave and it does make a difference. The cleaning solution should be replaced every couple of months (haven't gotten to that point yet) but the replacements seem readily available. Overall this is a good system and shaver that, if you are trying a new thing or tired of paying a fortune for replacement blades, this could be your answer. Just remember that it will take a week or so for your skin/beard to get used to the electric shaver and get a complete shave. Good Shopping!

Good Home Projector but Runs Hot!

Being a newbie to Epson projectors I really looked forward to this purchase so I could have a HUGE screen in my Mancave. For most intents and purposes this projector meets all my needs. First, a few cons: This thing runs really warm after a while. It puts a lot of heat out of the vent on the front and warmed up the entire room. Not uncomfortably so, just was kind of surprised. Second, it is mostly a plastic case so longevity is a little concerning, along with the arm that holds the front of the projector up. Also, the speaker is somewhat underwhelming; it worked well for us in are small room but will need to be hooked to something to produce larger sound. On to the positives: This thing is really bright and puts out a wonderful picture even on a bare wall with no screen. Colors were vibrant and sharp as was picture quality. We used several devices as inputs and they all displayed well. The instructions were pretty straightforward and the controls are well defined and easy to use. For home use, I believe this to be a good buy and will serve me well. I don't think I would try and push it very hard though as I would be concerned over it's stability. Good Shopping!

A great fixed indoor camera system!

These D-Link cameras are so very small! Literally as small as a pack of gum or lipstick. The cameras were very easy to set up with the D-Link app and have an excellent output at 720p. The IR Night mode is very bright and illuminates a medium sized room. The app allows for zooming in, motion trigger and remote notification. It's the size and ability to locate these unobtrusively are their selling point. I am pretty so that if a thief broken into my house and set off the motion detection they would be hard pressed to locate the cameras. If you are looking for very small but excellent security or room cameras these will be a great purchase! Good Shopping!

Bose does it again!

Everyone knows or has heard of the legendary Bose Noise Cancelling headphones and their ability to shut out noise and the world. These QC 35s are the same as the previous model with one LARGE exception.. They have a dedicated button on the bottom of the left earcup to enable Google Assistant! Does it work? Absolutely! I use Google Assistant frequently on my newest Asian-built superphone and the integration is flawless. If you tap the button, it tells you the battery status and if you have any Google notifications. Hold it down and it operates the same as Assistant on your phone, except totally voice controlled. As I had already set my preferences in Google Assistant, asking it to tell you the news causes it to go through all my preselected channels. Same with weather and others. Most cool is the ability to just play whatever you want through Google Play Music! Too cool! Just ask to hear whatever your in the mood for, and there it is in all it's Bose QuietComfort glory! Don't use Google Assistant? Then the button can be assigned through the Bose Connect App to set the level of noise reduction. Have a fruity type of phone? You can still use the multi button on the right earcup to summon Siri! As I said, as far as the headphones themselves, they seem to have not changed with the exception of that action button, which is a good thing. The headband is soft alcantara material and the earcups are super soft. I wore these for several hours with no discomfort at all. I have a set of Bose in-ear noise cancelling headphones that I used on a 17 hour other side of the world flight and they performed outstandingly with just a little pressure on my ears. Can't wait to try these on an extended flight to drown out the constant hum of engine noise and passenger infused noise. As far as the noise cancellation so far on these is excellent! And the musicality is wonderful with a warm, not overly done sound. All the music that I tried sounded fantastic and mostly neutral. If you are looking for noise cancelling headphones, and are fully engaged with Google Assistant, there is not a better buy out there right now! Put these on and the noisy world just goes away! But you can still check the weather without having to lift your phone! How cool is that? Good Shopping!

Vacuum cleaners are like audio equipment; their capabilities are always touted as the best by their manufacturers, and the end user is very opinionated on their performance. We have had lots of vacuums during our lifetime, from the cheapest brands, to the "big name" with lots of commercials brand, to the top of the line big box store brand. We have bought them based on how much money we had to what had the best consumer rating. So, based on all this, the Shark Apex DuoClean had a large bill to fill! It arrived in a rather large box, but small enough to know some assembly was ahead. We opened the box and found everything packed well and tight. We got everything out and proceeded to the quick guide and owner's manual that both seemed well written. Some assembly was necessary, but it was literally snap together! Definitely a plus! After getting acquainted with all the different parts and capabilities it was time to clean up. The vacuum has several different modes, one for hard floors, one for low pile carpet and one for shag. We used it mostly on hardwood and low pile modes. On Harwood, both brushes (there is one regular vacuum type brush and one soft roller in front of that) engage but in a lower speed. On low pile carpet modes, the turn significantly faster and it is almost self-propelled. On high pile, they both operate at a high speed. Great for cleaning, and easy going forward but it is a workout pulling it back. The vacuum is not overly heavy, but the pull of those rollers is strong. The combination of rollers definitely picks up pretty much everything, especially dog hair. The soft roller ensures nothing gets away. The main unit separates from the stem and floor head to make itself a handheld unit you can carry around and use to clean higher areas, stairs, etc. It worked well in our use and cleaned our ceiling fans well with the included attachments. There are several attachments that help with dusting, pet hair on furniture and a nifty under furniture attachment. Back to the regular vacuum, it pivots to make it easy to turn. The dust bucket remover easily and opens both on top and bottom to facilitate cleaning. All the hoses, buckets, attachments and handles come apart as they should and re-assemble easily. Overall, this is an outstanding vacuum worthy of your attention and try-out. As again, vacuums are subjective, you will have to make your own decision. It cleaned very well and got a lot of dirt that my other vacuum seemed to miss. Almost forgot, it is very quiet compared to many full sized vacuums which is a great plus. It is highly recommended. My Non-Tech Review

I wanted to make this review as easy to understand that I could without as much as tech jargon as I can. So, based on that, here we go. The Dell Inspiron Gaming Computer arrived in a nondescript box with minimal markings that did not relay the goodness inside. Upon opening, I located the dark grey, plastic, and somewhat imposing computer. The box has all the connections needed, a not very impressive keyboard and mouse and quick start guide. I thought for a gaming computer it would have a robust keyboard and mouse, but unfortunately no. These will need to be replaced quickly. I got everything hooked up (to include a hard-lined ethernet cord) pretty quickly and and booted up. The blue internal LEDs are cool and make a "gaming" statement but are not overbearing like some other gaming manufacturers. The internal light can be shut off via a desktop control app. The system has a optical drive on the front, as well as an SD card reader and multiple USB ports. Some of these are the newest USB 3.1 type that allow for high speed transfers. Below the optical drive is also a "blank" drive bay so you can quickly upgrade. On the rear are plenty of USB, sound and ethernet connectors. The system is equipped with an AMD Radeon 580 graphics card which has several DisplayPort and HDMI connectors and has a rather loud fan when the system is being stressed. Internally is has a 1 terabyte drive for storage/programs and 16 gigabytes of system memory. It can be increased to 32 gigabytes if you need and have the money. It has several drive bays for additional drives and the motherboard will accept many of the newer "stick" M2 style SSD drives (which allow your system to boot faster). After all the registrations and updates the system was ready for some tests. It should be noted that there is some Dell bloatware and unnecessary software, top of which was McAfee software that seemed to cause a rather significant slowdown. I ran several graphics and systems software tests (all can be downloaded for free) to test and stress the system. This computer was able to speed through all tests and the graphics tests always resulted in the high margin area. I played a few games (Need for Speed, COD, etc) and they all ran smoothly with a very high frame rate which allowed for smooth gameplay. It has some short term Office software as well as some other Dell software that I guess can be useful, it depends on your needs. Overall, I am very impressed with this computer. I have not owned a higher end "gaming" system from Dell (by another name) but I can tell you for me this is an impressive system that will meet most gamer's needs without having to spend for the top name system or processor. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 equalled or exceeded some of the other "big name" processors. Only downside for me was the keyboard and mouse that will need updating or replacing soon. Definitely should be on your consideration list if a gaming computer is in your future! Good Shopping!

An Excellent Monitor

I have never purchased a "Gaming Monitor" before, always going with the bargain basement or lowest on sale at the time I purchased a new computer (or that came with the package). Plus, the largest monitor I ever had for a desktop was about 23 inches. Needless to say, when the box arrived for this monitor my blood stirred a little. The packaging was very sturdy and is of the type that you remove some plastic plugs to release the cover, not cut open. The layout of the packaging was great and all the necessary parts were located quickly. It has the excellent stand, cable cover and of course the monitor. I was a little disappointed to find only a HDMI cable and not a DisplayPort cable. I would have liked to have tried both, but I will have to dig through my cable bag later (everyone has one of those, right?). I plugged everything in and fired up my desktop that has a AMD RX 580 card enclosed. This particular monitor is made to specifically sync with AMD cards (called FreeSync) to match refresh rates and stabilize the graphics during gameplay. The monitor is pretty large at 25 inches and the excellent stand allows for manipulation in height, angle and portrait/landscape. And it does an excellent job at this with great tension. The legs of the stand splay out and take up some space, but it is needed to allow for all the angles you can move this thing in. The screen was set very bright out of the box, and I had to use a screen calibrator to even things out right away. Colors are vivid as could be expected with a gaming monitor and the refresh rate is unnoticeably high. The monitor comes with an Alienware driver CD with drivers to push the monitor to the 1920 x 1080 resolution that is it's recommended display. After setting up the Alienware software and getting everything set properly it was time to play! I tried the monitor with both Need for Speed and Call of Duty. I'm not sure if the FreeSync made any difference, but I can tell you that both games ran with no stuttering and frame rate delays and looked fabulous! I turned all the settings all the way up and the AMD RX 580 and this monitor played through them easily. I will have to try some other games later but for now I can tell you that for me this monitor was worth it's price. With the only downside so far being without a DisplayPort cable, and that being trivial as the HDMI output is excellent, this is one of the best monitors I have owned.
