Good sound, okay heart rate monitor

So I got these and was very impressed with the packaging. Everything was neat and tidy and the box reminded me of the higher end cell phone packaging. I got everything out and tried to turn on right away, but they were dead and needed an immediate charge. After fully charging them (comes with charging cable but no charger) it turned on and I was able to pair with a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with little or no issues. It also came with a really neat case that is really grippable. After pairing I started trying the headphones on. At first, I had issues with the fit, but realized the cord goes behind your neck. Then, once I corrected that, I found that using their "twist and lock" method of putting the headphones in the bowl of your ears, caused too much pressure and pain. I took them out and replaced the earpieces with the next smaller size. This helped greatly and I was able to get them in without much issue. No more pain and they were solid in place in my ears. They don't truly go all the way into your ears, so ambient sound will come in. That is a good thing if you need to be able to hear things around you. The sound from these is very good in my opinion. Clear, defined and loud if needed. There is a good amount of bass, but if you like the enhanced bass other headphones advertise, these aren't for you. The other selling point of these is the heart rate monitor. You download their app, the UA Record app, that is used to sync the heart rate monitor in the left ear bud base. I got the app but could not get a heart rate, no matter what I did. Then I realized I had covered the sensor when I replaced the earbud size. Once I lined them up as needed I could see the green sensor flashing. The app saw the heart rate and everything started working as advertised. The only issue was that the heart rate was inconsistent. It would drop out and sometimes would stop altogether. The sound never stopped and continued to play even though I got a good distance away from my phone. The heart rate monitor is just driving me crazy. I will research to determine if there is something I need to do better. The headphones are solidly made, and seemed really good at sweat and moisture resistance. I really like these headphones and think they are good representatives of both UA and JBL, with the exception of the HR monitor. Good luck and good shopping!

Good whole home router with some shortcomings
on January 18, 2017
Posted by: kwebbster
from Louisiana
Upon unboxing, the first impression of the Linksys Velop system is more of speakers instead of routers. The many small holes in the case only reinforce that impression. The units are tall and elegant, encouraging users to leave them out in the open where they will perform best. Depending on the size of the building that the system is intended for, units are available as a single router or packs of two or three. Each seven inch tall unit has two Ethernet ports on the bottom and a power button. Noticeably absent is a USB port, a potential showstopper for households that share non-network ready devices like printers or hard drives across their network.
Setup is easy and is done entirely from within Linksys’ free app. Linksys has gone out of their way to ensure that someone with no network experience can set up their home network without feeling overwhelmed. Once the modem is connected to one unit, the app directs you to place an additional unit and helps in placement by telling the user the signal strength relative to the first unit, ensuring that the unit is not placed too far too close to the original unit. The LED light on the top of each unit shines different colors for different issues: blue when connected, red if the internet connection fails, yellow when it is out of range of the original unit, and purple during setup.
While the app is a great tool for network setup, there were frequent tiresome pauses while information was exchanged between the app and the system. The app’s dependence on Bluetooth to detect unused units nearby also slows the process down. The app’s dashboard page shows what devices are connected, and has easy to see buttons to control the Guest network, Parental Controls, and Device Prioritization. In the Parental Controls menu, parents will appreciate the ability to select a device to control and block access to specific sites, or completely block access to the Internet. Blocked devices are listed on the Dashboard page. The Device Prioritization menu lets you select up to three devices like streaming boxes or gaming consoles for priority Internet access, and these devices also appear on the Dashboard page. One disappointing feature of the Guest network is that users connected to the Guest network are blocked from connecting to devices connected to the network, such a printers or NAS drives.
Once the system is set up, signal strength is outstanding, with a 2,900 square foot home having no spots where signal strength fell off. The Velop supports Multi-User Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) data streaming, which transmits data to devices at the same time instead of sequentially, a feature that will be appreciated in a household where multiple people are streaming video at the same time.
One big disappointment will only be an issue with power users. Linksys has gone a step further in making this system easy to setup and maintain. They have not hidden many common advanced settings that knowledgeable users would want to adjust. They have not included the options at all. This means that users will not be able to do things like change the range of assigned IP addresses, use a custom DNS or even use the separate 2.4 and 5 Mhz ranges as separate networks. A popular practice of using MAC address restrictions to further ensure there are no Wi-Fi snoopers would be impossible with this system. Linksys says the Velop will work with Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant to perform tasks such as turning on the Guest network and helping remember passwords, but Amazon has not turned on that skill yet so it was unable to be tested.
Is a mesh system right for you? Range extenders are good for boosting signal, but at the expense of bandwidth, which is cut in half because the extenders use the same wireless channel to communicate with both the main router and devices. Mesh routers use a dedicated channel for communication back to the router, thus avoiding the bandwidth problem.
Is this the system you need in your home? That all depends on how to you access the internet and how your family consumes media within your home. If your family uses the network solely to surf the internet and stream media, then they will be extremely happy with this system’s performance no matter where they find themselves in the home. However, if your family has printers that they want to share or a hard drive with movies or pictures that needs to be shared, this system Is not the correct system for you, unless you already have network ready devices such a printer with Ethernet ports and NAS drives.

Top Notch Product!

This thing is awesome! The unboxing was a little difficult, as the device is stuffed in there like a jigsaw puzzle. But once we got everything out, it looked rather awe inspiring. The blender assembly is large and also includes a large and small container (like "other" smoothie producing devices). The base for this is huge and solid, but that's a good thing. We put the blender to work first, to see how well it could pulverize some ice. Wow, we had fine snow in a matter of seconds. No bogging down, no issues with large particles. Next we tried the Nutri-Ninja container. We tried a concoction of whole apples, bananas, carrots, and pineapple pieces with ice. It blended them to a very fine smooth liquid quickly with NO hunks, large pieces or seeds. The Auto IQ system is fabulous as it pauses, pushes liquids up and blends them quite well. Much better than other company's devices. We went back to the blender and tried to have it do some chopped salad. It worked flawlessly! This is a very impressive duo! One issue though, the box and ads make it seem as there are two bases; not true, only one 1300 watt base, but one blender and two Nutri-Ninja cups. Other than that, it truly has Total Crushing blades and is worth every penny. Good Shopping!

Good for Legacy Vehicles

I took a while to review this Rand McNally Overdryve system so I could check it with various vehicles and phones. I love the overall concept of this system, and if you have an older (2013 or earlier) vehicles, regardless of make, this is an excellent upgrade. Much better than just a plain old GPS. It integrates well with all the cellphones I tried, and can use your FM Radio for speakerphone/audio. It uses your cellphone's data to update/search among other things. It really brings all the tech bells and whistles to older and/or basic vehicles that don't have navigation and data/camera systems. It has a built-in driving camera and integrates well with it's dash or window holder, which also doubles as it's power connector and output base. My only shortcomings are that the maps are 2D (but navigation is awesome, but this is Rand McNally so it better be) and that to gain some of the "neat" options they have to be purchased as add-ons. These add-ons include back-up camera, tire pressure sensors, vehicle data sensors and more. These items are costly add-ons that make the system better but add to the cost. Overall I would say this is an awesome "better than GPS" data system for basic or older vehicles. If you have a newer tricked out tech vehicle this won't do much for you. Happy shopping!

Want to like it, but...

I was one of the unlucky Samsung Note 7 owners, so when this became available I thought, wow this is great. When it arrived it was in a very impressive box, even better than Samsung's. Upon opening it, it appeared to be a very impressive looking phone, with one exception... The chin! Since it had no physical button there, I don't know why it's there. It serves no purpose that to take up screen space. Upon turning on the Pixel, I was impressed with the clarity of the screen and lack of bloatware. I had to try Google Assistant right away, so I quickly went through the set-up skipping the data transfer at this point. Google Assistant is as good as everyone has said and then some. I was able to string many connected queries together and Google Assistant kept up for the most part! The camera is amazing and very fast. In fact, I'm not sure there is a faster focusing phone camera out there. I was really disappointed with no expandable memory capability, which was buffered a little with the fact that Google allows for unlimited photo/video storage. But I really think expandable memory would have made this an outstanding phone. Also, the fact that it is not waterproof worries me a little, but just means I must be a little more careful than I have been. Speaking of that, two days after getting the phone I managed to drop it on a brick floor from about 3 feet, and it survived it with only a minor scratch on the top! I think this is a great phone that Google software only makes better, but no memory expansion and not waterproof brings it down. Also, it charges very quickly, however there is no wireless charging. A good "Google" first try, but I think the next go arounf will be even better. Recommended.

I really like this case. The LED display is outstanding and can be customized. If fits the phone well. The only minor issue is the cover flap does not have magnet or way to keep it closed and sometimes remains open, especially if you have held it open for a while. But for now, probably one of the best cases out there.

Excellent Product

First impressions count, especially when you have just purchased one of the most expensive consumer routers on the market. Netgear prefers the term “Wi-Fi System” as their equipment actually includes a router and a secondary unit. Both the router and the secondary unit are aesthetically pleasing, looking more like white sculptures than anything else. The units have a creamy, rubberized texture that reinforces their chic feel. They don’t look or feel like technology. There’s a reason for that. Netgear wants you to leave them out in the open in order to maximize their performance. The router has three gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB 2.0 port for storage or a printer and the satellite has four gigabit ports.
Netgear’s Orbi webpage says that their system works right out of the box and that it only takes a couple of clicks to perform the entire setup. Connecting the router to my modem was easy enough as Netgear has color-coded the internet port yellow. After connecting to the modem, the LED light ring at the top of the router lit up for a second. I knew it had connected to the modem when it pulsed once. Setting up the secondary unit was just as easy. I placed mine at the other end of the house and plugged it in. A few seconds later, its LED light ring pulsed white and then starting pulsing magenta. About a minute later, the light turned solid blue for a few seconds and shut off, telling me that a connection had been made to the router. Netgear’s color coding system is designed to let know the strength of their connection. A solid blue color indicates a strong connection; amber denotes a weak connection and magenta tell you that you do not have a satisfactory connection and that you need to move it closer to the router. It’s kind of like the old “hot and cold” game kids play. To complete the setup, I used my phone to connect to the default SSID of the router with the supplied password. Once connected, a configuration script automatically started running that allowed me to set my own SSID and password. Once I did that, my phone informed me that I was ready to surf the web. That is where things went sideways.
The internet was not connected on the router. I verified that the internet was working by plugging directly into my modem, then tried a different Ethernet cable than the one supplied just in case it was defective. After trying to troubleshoot the issue myself with no resolution, I called Netgear’s tech support folks. The lady that answered was friendly and knowledgeable. We went through some basic troubleshooting steps and we finally figured out that it was the MAC address of the previous installed router that was causing the issue. Fortunately, the engineers at Netgear anticipated this issue and included an option in the advanced settings that allowed me to my computer’s MAC address instead of the router’s, eliminating the need to reset the modem. I did grumble a bit that it would have been nice to have that solution documented in the setup guide if it was potentially going to happen to everyone who upgraded from a different router.
Once the internet was working, I ran a speed test to give myself a baseline. Consistent download speeds of 80 mbs were about what I expected as my computer was connected to one of the gigabit Ethernet ports in the router. However, it was the wireless connection where I noticed the Orbi really shines. The Orbi supports Wi-Fi up to 3gbs, and I consistently got download speeds of 75 mbs. I was able to stream two different HD movies over Netflix and surf the web at the same time with no stuttering or buffering on any of the devices connected. Netgear’s inclusion of a third radio dedicated to letting the Orbi units communicate seems to make a difference, letting the other two radios concentrate on the transmission of data to users.
The web management interface is clean and minimalist, which follows the Orbi’s mantra that less is more. Users will appreciate the easy to read graphic panes that display the internet status, wireless information and connected devices while advanced users will still have the ability to dig into the minutiae of the router’s settings. One additional pane is dedicated to parental controls, where parents can blacklist and whitelist domains or individual websites.
The Orbi system looks great sitting on a table in your living room and it will let you and your family enjoy web surfing, listening to music and streaming HD movies all at the same time without noticing the impressive science behind it all.
