Somewhere Between Casual and Competitive

Splatoon has three parts: a single-player campaign that feels very much like a Nintendo game, a coop mode (that requires multiple Switches and game cartridges to play) that's a huge party game-like blast, and third multiplayer competitive game in which you both try to paint more of the landscape than your opponent and knock your opponents out with your paint guns. It's a bizarre and very fun multiplayer mode, but for how well it's designed, it's not a top-tier competitive game.
Still, if you're looking for something your kids can play for months at a time or a more casual shooter than Call of Duty, you'll have a hard time finding something better than Splatoon 2.

The original Doom was violent, frenetic, and chaotic to be sure. This new relaunch (by the same company who still employ some of the same designers) is no less violent, no less frenetic, and significantly more chaotic in the best possible way. It's as though the same designers from the 90s stepped into the mid 2010s to make roughly the same game.
The difference now is the violence is in incredible fidelity. It's a wild ride, but certainly not one for kids. At all.

So much of this game became the systems that would make GTA5 work, but the lonely western setting is something few games dare to show. An absolute classic.

FF12 came out right beside the PS3—and it wasn't a PS3 game. Because of this, far too many people neglected it in favor of flashier titles, but that was a mistake.
Fortunately, an opportunity exists to replay the game on your PS4 (enhanced for pro). FF12 was ahead of its time in so many of its systems, and because of this the game doesn't feel old except for its upgraded-but-still-dated visuals and compressed voice work.
Get it and play the best PS2 Final Fantasy title finally.

Gaming has gotten softer since Crash Bandicoot originally came out. Reviews are slanted in favor of games that make playing them easy too. Crash Bandicoot is old school in the truest sense of the term in that it's just as difficult as you recall, but the trial and error and error and error is just as fun too.

I bought this game for my son, but I'm surprised it's as good a platforming game as it is. He and I have a lot of fun playing it together, and I would probably enjoy playing it alone quite a bit.
The big thing to consider is if you want to spend extra on the toys you'll need to unlock all areas of the game. My son loves the toys too—he'd probably enjoy having them if they did nothing in the game. But it can be an expensive proposition to collect a bunch of toys in addition to the game itself. Notably, if you have old Skylanders toys from a previous game, they'll work in this game too.

Horizon: Zero Dawn isn't revolutionary in terms of its gameplay or even its ideas, really. The setting is sometime in the future when machines have become animal-like, and humans have long since become tribal with archaic technology and social structures. Great ideas, but nothing you've never seen elsewhere. The gameplay isn't far removed from something like Assassin's Creed or even Grand Theft Auto, but it's a very good third person action RPG / shooter.
What Horizon does best is its visuals. Especially on PS4 Pro, it beats out even Uncharted's impressive visual fidelity.

For example, can I use it on my xbox one day then use it on my laptop later?
Yes, but your Xbox might use a different file structure, so you'll possibly have to reformat the drive if you want to go back and forth. I would check with the Xbox website to clarify. But again, this will work with both.
