Real 4K Master, the movie has aged well.

I have always had a soft spot for this movie so buying it on 4K Blu-ray was an easy choice to make. For those who haven't seen it, it's a really good 90's aliens come for the earth movie.

Princess Diaries - Sweet and Well Made

My kids love these two movies. I love that they portray women in a positive light. They have the power to make decisions, but realize that others are affected by their choices. Sometimes you must do what's best for others. I appreciate the friendships portrayed and the importance of trust and loyalty. Spoiler Alert - I also appreciate that they do not marry her off at the end in a neat and tidy life. Sometimes we must wait and not be pressured into doing something until we're sure it's what's best.

A Near Perfect Movie!

You’ve seen the trailer footage: Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, clad in Greco-Roman armor, pausing to stand tall amid a fire-blackened landscape, before charging into overlit tracer bullet fire. The footage doesn’t make entirely clear that she’s just risen from a British trench in the Great War, crossed into No-Man’s Land, and begun to charge the German line. And, when those numerous, fast-moving bullets inevitably pin her down, men crest the trench and follow her lead.
This doesn’t just create a good visual. After a three-movie streak of stinkers from DC studios, this moment demonstrates what makes superheroes, something Zack Snyder apparently doesn’t appreciate. Heroes represent, not the recourses we’re willing to live with, as with Snyder's Superman, but the aspirations we pursue, the better angels we hope to achieve. We all hope, faced with the nihilism of the Great War, that we’d overcome bureaucratic inertia and face our enemies head-on.
In some ways, this Wonder Woman, directed by relative novice Patty Jenkins, accords with DC’s recent cinematic outings. Diana’s heroism doesn’t stoop to fighting crime, a reflection of cultural changes since the character debuted in 1941. Ordinary criminals, even organized crime, seem remarkably small beer in today’s world. Crime today is often either penny-ante, like common burglars, or too diffuse to punch, like drug cartels. Like the Snyder-helmed movies, this superhero confronts more systemic problems.

Wishes Do Come True!

I watch this movie every Christmas, among others, simply for the spirit it puts in my soul. Everyone expects the holidays to do things for them. Expecting too much we are left down. We have to do it ourselves. This is one movie that does it for me. This is an older movie. Lauren Bacall is precious. Thora Birch is still a child here. Ethan Randall (now Embry) a teen. it's just a neat Christmas wish come true.

Disney Classic!

As far as I know, Have Yourself A Goofy Little Christmas isn't in Goof Troop's volume 1 OR volume 2 sets, and I don't know if it'll ever be in the 3rd and last volume set, if Disney ever gets around to it. This was originally a Disney Movie Club exclusive in 2008, but became available at Walmart in 2014, and everywhere else in JANUARY of 2015. In fact, this new disc is a reissue of the 2008 release, in new eco-made packaging and an all-new cover. Goofy tries all he can to make Max's Christmas merry, even in spite of greatly-overdoing his decorations. And leave it to Goofy to make an unintentional mess of things on Pete and his family's Christmas vacation to Aspirin, Colorado; while attracting a not-so-happy bear from his hibernation. You can also leave it to Goofy to make an old Christmas tradition (The Reindeer Mamba) become new all over again, and a big hit as well. It's a wonder Disney didn't pair this special with Darkwing Duck's own Christmas special, It's A Wonderful Leaf, on 1 DVD, like they already did many years ago for 1 videotape, sans theme songs for both shows. Have Yourself A Goofy Little Christmas with this beloved classic from a widely-renowned classic Disneytoon series, and try and make it one of your Christmas traditions, if you want to!

A group of aimless misfits realize their calling on the soccer field in this endearing comedy from Disney DVD. Presented in 1.85:1 widescreen and offering audio rendered in closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Surround, this otherwise bare-bones disc also offers an alternate French-language audio mix in addition to optional Spanish subtitles.

A Unique "Snowflake" From Most Christmas Movies
on August 31, 2017

Toy Story That Time Forgot sure ain't like other Christmas classics many of us know and love, but it sure is definitely worth a shot, especially for action/adventure toy lovers, such as Bonnie's friend Mason, who's been given a huge collection of Battlesaurs (AND an Optimum X video game system) for Christmas in this instant holiday classic; in fact it takes place 2 days AFTER Christmas! Luckily, a special Christmas ornament named Angel Kitty reminds us this is a Christmas special, with her words of wisdom, and Trixie tries to set the Battlesaurs' leader Reptillus straight. Too bad they were a lot more delusional than Buzz used to be, thinking they're real warriors; that is until... well, see your yourselves, if you wish! The bonuses are sparse on DVD, just a short documentary & a commentary on the feature program, but the Blu-ray disc has a bunch of 'em, including the opening sequence of the made-up Battlesaurs TV series! Just as Santa Baby is a unique snowflake among Rankin/Bass' own Christmas classics, Toy Story That Time Forgot is the same for Disney's line of animated Christmas classics, only made by Pixar, and it debuted on ABC in December of 2014! If you like to add this to your Pixar collection, OR your holiday classics collection, go right ahead! This and Toy Story of Terror for Halloween, will be truly worth the wait for Toy Story 4 in 2019! "To Infinity And Beyond!" as Buzz would say.

The crux of this limited, juvenile comedy is a complex game that begins at midnight and ends by morning. Of main interest is the fact that a young Michael J. Fox plays one of the students involved in the game. Leon (Alan Solomon) has spent a year creating the game and practically needs that long to convince his fellow students to play it. Eventually he wins out, and the various teams of classic stereotypes -- the nerd, the well-groomed hero, the obnoxious sorority sister, the easily duped freshman, and others -- all converge on Los Angeles at midnight. Their treks take them through the Griffith Observatory which because of those odd hours astronomers keep, could conceivably be open. Other locales are interestingly open too, apparently Los Angeles never sleeps.

Now THIS is comedic fun!

Midnight Madness is a perfect example of how you can do great comedy without having to be overly raunchy, or disgusting, a trait that Hollywood would do well to emulate in current comedies. The teams are all stereotypes but the fun factor is ENORMOUS! Is it realistic? Of course not, but as in other films like it from the same time frame, the joy is in over the top exaggerated situations. Leon's clues are clever, and clever usually isn't a word to be used in conjunction with a college screwball comedy.
You get the feeling early in the film that Michael J Fox's role as Scott may have originally been smaller but somebody got smart and gave him more to do to further develop the character and provide some interesting twists.
It's super fun seeing Paul Ruebens in cowboy gear as the pinball arcade manager. The pinball arcade war is pretty ridiculous too and while it's unnecessary to the plot of the film, you can't help but love the exuberant energy and slapstick foolishness of it.
Cheesy music is predominant in the movie but you'll have a tough time getting the incredibly catchy disco theme song 'Midnight Madness' out of your head. So which team won? Don't look at me because I'm not telling. See it for yourself if you've got a couple hours to laugh and I mean laugh A LOT.
It's been a long time since I last saw Midnight Madness, but the wait was worth it.
