After 30 years, and still PERFECT!

The first inarguable masterpiece by Tim Burton, this is the film that introduced a generation to Harry Belafonte. Chameleon actor Michael Keaton is unrecognizable as the titular character - the "ghost with the most", and his manic energy offers a performance that is without compare. Much more funny than scary, even for '80s kids like myself, this was a movie that the whole family could enjoy (A little scariness and cursing for those with sensitive stomachs). The script offers an exceptionally witty critique of the "Go-go '80s" mindset of making money off other people's assets, even if that means the destruction of the very things that initially were so appealing. This is a common theme in Burton's work to this day, but perhaps no film of his elucidates his premise better. To test the impact of this movie on my generation, try reciting to them "...Beetlejuice, ...Beetlejuice, ...". The glint in their eyes as they invariably shout a third time, "BEETLEJUICE!" will have you looking over your shoulder for sandworms and wide stripes in your dreams....
It's show time!

Great ATMOS soundtrack!

Just watched the first disk and the 4K UHD is a vast improvement. Overall color correction and improvement over the blu-ray versions. The ATMOS soundtrack was fabulous! 100% improvement and immersive. My 5.1.4 system provided a fantastic addition. Sound moving all around and the announcer during the Quidditch match was right overhead. A great experience. If the other disks sound and look this good it was a great buy. Very well done.

Excellent Protection

I'm a huge Griffin Survivor fan. I have had one on my iPhone since the iPhone 6. I love the All Terrain cases. I wanted to try the Summit because it was slimmer but offered more protection. I am so glad I did! I read feedback that there was a gap between the screen saver and the screen. On my 8 you l can even really tell there is a screen saver on the phone. It's awesome, no gap at all. The only problem I had with the case was when I first received the case I had a hard time sliding the screen protector off the case to place my phone in but after I got it off by pulling real hard, I had no problem getting the protector to slide back on with the phone in the case. I highly recommend this case for anyone wanting to really protect their phone without the bulk!

Very jumpy, Very creepy and WORTH YOUR TIME!

The Conjuring Universe SIDEBAR: This has been labeled “the next chapter in The Conjuring Universe,” and a Conjuring movie is exactly what this feels like. Well, The Conjuring (2013) was so outstanding that Annabelle (2014) couldn’t be expected to measure up. But falling far below that, evil doll movies practically make themselves yet Annabelle was an absolutely incompetent horror film that should disappoint fans of the genre whether they were birthed in the era of serious slashers, classic Hammer releases, or campy 80s slapstick gore-fests. The only way Annabelle made it to the big screen was by riding the tidal wave of hype created by its connection to The Conjuring. Then along came The Conjuring 2 (2016)—which felt a lot like Insidious “Chapter 4”—which was clearly made more for the fans than the critics as it focused more on being excitingly jump-scary than on standard merits or sleek plotiness. This sequel introduced The Nun (i.e., the demon Valek) and gave a fine nod to Annabelle. Following suit, Creation offers a mysterious wink harbingering the upcoming Nun film (same writer as Creation) and then finishes transitioning us directly into the opening scene of Annabelle (2014).
I wasn’t at all surprised to learn this was directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), as it felt very much like Lights Out (2016) meets The Conjuring 2 (2016) in terms of scare-staging, the use of darkness and flickering lights, the super twitchy monster manifestations, and the roller-coasting dozens of jump scares. I should repeat part of that: DOZENS of jump scares. Holding together far more soundly and satisfyingly than Annabelle (2014), this plot still wasn’t terribly substantial. It had “just enough,” with the story feeling neither deep nor shallow, and quite familiar without being phoned in or rehashed. But, then again, we are in The Conjuring Universe and the conduits by which evil manifests in our present cinescape seem to follow the same rules or patterns as we have now witnessed in a total of four films. It’s the kind of familiarity we find in a Freddy, Jason, Pinhead or Myers sequel…we know the general rules, but we also expect some new angle in each new film to come.
Now I just called this “familiar.” But, make no mistake, it’s quite exciting after a somewhat slow introduction to our premise. But then becomes exciting if you enjoy jump scares. As I mentioned earlier, this film thrives on them. You’ll hear something creepy, stare into a pitch-black hallway or doorway for 8 seconds, and press your head into your seat to brace yourself for the inevitable incoming scare. This may bother folks looking for the next horror Oscar contender, but people just looking for a fun date night or a great popcorn horror will be in for a good time. In fact, I’d call this outstanding popcorn horror.
What gore we get is good, the acting is all on point, the demon monster effects were VERY creepy, and despite the high frequency of jump-scares there were some seriously legitimate scares as well. I really appreciated that all that this film tried to do; give us a prequel, connect adequately to both The Conjuring (2013) and Annabelle (2014), provide a semblance of continuity, and serve as a stand-alone horror film.
Overall, I’d say I was quite pleased. I’ll certainly buy it and, due to the sheer joy derived from all the jump-scares, I look forward to sharing this with someone who hasn’t yet seen it.

A Marvel Movie That Stands On Its Own

One of the best Marvel movies!
It had some slow moments, but overall it was a unique, faithful, and a fun take on Spiderman. Nods to the Marvel cinematic universe were kept in check and served as great framing, but they didn't beat a dead horse. Overall it was a great coming of age story and genuinely funny in parts. :)

If you think this is a straight horror, you're wrong. DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A FILM FOR KIDS OR YOUNG TEENS. There is a lot of swearing, some nudity, and lots of gore (but not over-the-top shock value gore, so it's all cool).
I love this movie. It's one of the truest to form horror-comedy's out there. A lot of films in this niche genre have a hard time balancing both genres without compromising the integrity of either one. Usually these horror-coms weigh more in one category by parodying common tropes or exaggerating cliche's (blah blah, insert smart words). This doesn't do that. This film knows what it is try and doesn't too hard. It's clever, funny and scary-ish. Nearly equally. I would hope any fan of horror would appreciate this movie to be a refreshing and unique take on the genre. Even if you don't like horror, this is still an awesome movie to check out if just to know why the heck people like it so much.
OR, you may just be a Joss Whedon hater and are over hearing fan-boys rave about his God-like creations. In which case, you'll want to hate it but I think it'll win you over. If you're fan-boy and haven't seen this film, what are you waiting for? It's awesome!

This release is a 3-disc Blueray collection of the following John Hughes classics: "The Breakfast Club John Hughes wrote and directed this quintessential 1980s high school drama featuring the hottest young stars of the decade. Trapped in a day-long Saturday detention in a prison-like school library are Claire, the princess (Molly Ringwald); Andrew, the jock (Emilio Estevez); John, the criminal (Judd Nelson); Brian, the brain (Anthony Michael Hall); and Allison, the basket case (Ally Sheedy). These five strangers begin the day with nothing in common, each bound to his/her place in the high school caste system. Yet the students bond together when faced with the villainous principal (Paul Gleason), and they realize that they have more in common than they may think. "Sixteen Candles" On the eve of her sister's wedding, suburban teenager Samantha (Molly Ringwald) suffers silently as her family forgets her birthday. Even worse, some total dork (Anthony Michael Hall) keeps propositioning her with sophomoric innuendo when she really craves romantic attention from high-school hunk Jake (Michael Schoeffling). Moving from Samantha's family home as it's invaded by other relatives to a high-school dance where nothing seems to go her way, this bittersweet teen comedy traces the hopes and disappointments of not only Samantha, but also a host of incidental but memorable characters, from a hapless Japanese exchange student to a prom queen and a posse of barely pubescent nerds. A climactic party scene at which these various strata of young America overcome their rigid hierarchies sets the stage for resolutions both tender and torrid. "Weird Science" John Hughes's third directorial effort follows in the tradition of his previous teen-centered films, Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club. Wannabe hipster Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and his nebbish weak-willed best friend, Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith), are a pair of high-school geeks who are hapless with members of the opposite sex. Using Wyatt's computer, they create what they believe is the ideal woman. A lightning storm brings that woman to life, and she takes the form of Kelly Le Brock. Lisa is her name and she immediately sets about building their self-confidence, but trouble begins brewing when Wyatt's cruel, military-minded older brother, Chet (Bill Paxton), begins to realize that something is not as it should be.

80's Classics!
on October 5, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
The John Hughes Yearbook Collection gathers together three of the legendary and sadly deceased filmmaker's most celebrated 80's films The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, and Weird Science. All three films had been released on bluray before. The discs of Weird Science and Sixteen Candles are the same as were released a couple or so years ago.
The Breakfast Club however got a brand new remastered transfer which is a considerable improvement over the original bluray released a few years back and is dubbed as the 30th Anniversary Edition (and is also available separately for purchase from this collection as well). The new transfer boasts a very noticeable increase in fine detail and also features a warmer and more lifelike feel as a whole. The original bluray had just used an ancient old HD master used for the DVD release so fans will be thrilled to see the film looking better than it ever has. Extras are the same as the first bluray release with the addition of a new trivia track.
Sadly Universal didn't see fit to also remaster Weird Science and Sixteen Candles. Not that the existing bluray transfers look bad by any means but there is a lot of room for improvement. Weird Science fares the worst with a transfer that while better than the old DVD still looks not as good as it could. The opening scene looks pretty rough but it does get better as it goes along. Sixteen Candles doesn't suffer from all of the same issues but after you see how amazing The Breakfast Club looks in its new remastered edition, it will have you longing for new transfers for the other two films as well.
This is still a great buy for people who don't own any of these 3 fine 80's classics on bluray yet. You get an amazing new transfer for The Breakfast Club along with decent transfers for the other two films that look better than their DVD counterparts. Highly recommended!

Jackie Chan Dominates Hollywood.

Chan at his finest. Hong Kong film legend and kung-fu master Jackie Chan of incredible titles such as "Project A" and "Drunken master" stars in the Hollywood hit alongside american funnyman Chris Tucker. The trilogy is one of the greatest comedy series of all time, and is extremely memorable with all of Chan's hilarious English dialogue and brilliant stunt choreography. These films are a MUST SEE for Chan fans and really anyone who likes to laugh. Chan's unique blend of action and comedy is what separates him from all other action stars. Anyone who wants to laugh and be on the edge of their seat with intense action/kung-fu, pick this one up for sure.
