This is one of our family's favorites!

This is one of our family's favorite movies ever! It is clean, it is funny and it really makes you think. What would happen if I was big just now, how would things change etc. Are wishes unwishable?
Tom Hanks plays a young man who is 12 and wishes he is big. The next morning, he wakes up and he is big - full grown! He now has to sneak out of his house and figure out where the wishing machine that he wished on the night before is. He cannot unwish without the machine. The tale takes you through his adventures over the next few months, as he becomes a toy company marketing manager and falls in love with a girl (Elizabeth Perkins) and lives on his own.
Luckily, as all good stories end, he is able to have a happy ending and go back to his life as a normal 12 year old boy.
We have watched this movie many many times and love it.

All three films from the Back to the Future trilogy are included in the collection commemorating the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the original film. Along with the the first three films in their entirety, the compilation includes: deleted scenes, featurettes, commentary from director Robert Zemeckis and producers Bob Gale and Neil Canton, photo galleries, two episodes of Back to the Future: The Animated Series (with Christopher Lloyd reprising his role as Doc Brown), and music videos from Huey Lewis and the News and ZZ Top, and even more behind-the-scenes footage and bonuses.

Great Scott! Step aside Yoda. Move over Captain Kirk. The greatest sci-fi saga is finally available on DVD. The trilogy is long overdue in the new format, but definitely worth the wait. A bonus to the long hiatus will be the extras that have become standard on all new releases.
The plot for the trilogy seems complicated at face value as teenage Marty (Fox) and his unlikely best friend Doc Brown (Lloyd) travel back and forth through time altering the past, present, or future at every pitstop. However, when you watch the films, the story is not complicated at all. The script is tightly woven, the characters are memorable, and the chemistry between the major players (Fox, Lloyd, Thompson, Steenburgen, Glover, and Wilson) is unrivaled.
The simple moral of the story is "Life is what you make of it."
Going against the grain, I have to admit that the second feature was my favorite of the three. This is primarily due to portions where Marty battles his way through scenes in the first film without being seen by his other self or his parents.....similar camera tricks were seen a few years later in Zemekis's other great film "Forrest Gump". I was also amazed at the gratuitous and shameless product placement in the second film, which even made "Seinfeld" seem subtle.
One thing I've got my fingers crossed for on the extras would be the scenes with the original Marty as played by Erick Stoltz. Allegedly, three weeks of filming occurred before he was switched out with Micheal J. Fox.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson star in this double feature following a security guard at the Smithsonian museum who finds himself in the midst of a battle of historical proportions in Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

Kids Loved BOTH These Movies!
on July 13, 2016

We visited the Field Museum in Chicago this summer and our kids loved Sue. We realized recently they had never seen either of these movies and picked this set up. They were both a hit. They are 10 and 11 and getting into history so they loved the idea of the museum coming to life at night. They thought the dinosaur was great. Great gift if you are looking for a movie for a kid - I would think a stuffed T-Rex from Cuddlekins would go great with this! Nice to have a set of films that are age appropriate, little bit of history thrown in and a nice background for the film.

Bittersweet ending...

This is the third and perhaps last of the "Night in the Museum" series, featuring Ben Stiller as Larry Daley, the night watchman at an American Museum of Natural History which comes to life each night. Much of the cast from the first two movies returns, along with a few new characters. In this outing, Larry discovers the magic tablet which animates the people and animals at the museum seems to be running out of juice. A couple of clues lead him to Cecil Fredericks (Dick Van Dyck), the former night watchman, who gives Larry a reason to go to London's British Museum.
The expedition to London turns into a madcap scramble around the British Museum, dodging its animals and characters (especially Dan Stevens as Lancelot) come to life, through a performance of "Camelot" (featuring Hugh Jackman as King Arthur), and finally to a rooftop showdown over the tablet. Along the way, Larry must deal with a teenage son who doesn't want to go to college, a boss who loses his job over Larry, and a bored British security guard who gets in the way in London. The ending is bittersweet, as the audience knows this was the final movie appearance for Robin Williams and for Mickey Rooney. However, there is plenty of fun left in the franchise, with sight gags galore and the impressive CGI that makes it all work. Recommended as decent entertainment.

Blu-ray: "GREASE" looks absolutely gorgeous in HD!
on July 13, 2016

"GREASE" is the most successful movie musical ever created. The 1978 film was based on a musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and eventually caught the attention in the early 70's of producer Allan Carr who purchase the rights to adapt the play into a film.
With the popularity of "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER" in 1977 which help boost the career of John Travolta, producer Robert Stigwood joined Allan Carr to create a film based on this play. Tapping director Randal Kleiser who worked with Travolta in the popular 1976 TV film "The Boy and his Bubble", recruiting "GREASE" musical choreographer Patricia Birch and hiring Director of Photography Bill Butler ("Jaws", "Stripes" and "Rocky II & III", etc.), this team would create a film that would become a musical ingrained into American pop culture.
Despite no respect in supporting the film by the major film studios, "GREASE" would become the second highest grossing film in 1978 behind "Superman" bringing in $96 million in the box office, the "GREASE" soundtrack would achieve #1 status around the world during its release and the film received many award nominations.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
"GREASE" is featured in 1080p High Definition and I will tell you I was blown away by the picture quality.
I've watched this film dozens of times, owned the VHS and both DVD versions and when I started watching the High Definition Blu-ray transfer, I was speechless. The many colors featured in the film were quite vibrant. This film is over 30-years-old and Paramount really did a great service in the transfer and remaster of this film. Closeups, outdoor scenes, you name it, the film looks spectacular!

He and she are well matched in this movie, and unlike most romantic movies, trust develops at a gradual pace before physical intimacy. Well-written, well-edited, well-acted, and stimulating, this movie is enjoyable.

One of the Best Love Stories of All Time
on July 13, 2016

THE NOTEBOOK has long been my favorite of Nicholas Sparks' many books, so it is a happy surprise to me that the wonderful story transferred to the big screen with all the sweetness, warmth, and tenderness that made the book a runaway best seller.
The best part of this movie was the incredible chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling as the young lovers Allie and Noah. Their story was told by an elderly couple in a nursing home. James Garner and Gena Rowlands were outstanding as the devoted "Duke" and the woman with irreversible dementia. As Duke recounted the story of Allie and Noah from the notebook he carried with him, the lady's memory began to come back and she could remember.
The movie always changes the book but the one major change (the ending) which had the audience letting out a collective gasp and reaching for the nearest tissue was, in my opinion, really good even if it was pure Hollywood melodrama.
Why does a movie like THE NOTEBOOK appeal to so many? Is it that every woman longs for a man who loves as deeply as Noah? Is it that every one wants a love that transcends all problems---those of class, education, family objection----and lasts forever? Or just maybe in a world of high-tech gizmos and high security alerts, it's nice to get back to basics with a really good love story....and this is definitely that.

HILARIOUS!!!!

The story is about 2 male skaters that are extremely competitive. Their scores were tied and they both shared the Gold medal spot for a brief moment. They began fighting which resulted in their removal from the men's single ice skating competitions for the rest of their lives. After failing to achieve any sort of happiness with odd jobs (Ferrell ends up skating for a children's ice show and Heder ends up working for an ice skating shop)they agree to skate together in the couple's skating competitions.
Ferrell plays an egotistical guy who seems to be very low on the IQ scale. Heder plays a soft, effeminate guy who has lived a very privileged life (until he gets kicked out of men's skating and his adoptive father disowns him). The two personalities clash to no end.
My husband and I truly enjoyed this show. There are a lot of innuendos references made in the movie but it's used in a hilarious way. I wouldn't recommend younger children watching the movie simply because of the references.

Watching now as I type, I saw Aladdin as a kid in the theater, and it has been one of my favorite Disney movies since. I can safely say, this new Blu-ray doesn't disappoint.
Aladdin looks great in HD! The standard definition DVD looked good, but suffered from some noticeable compression artifacts when viewed on a 1080p TV, especially in the opening sequence. These issues are thankfully gone, allowing the colors to breathe with vibrancy and less of a "digital" appearance. Detail and sharpness are greatly improved; this is easily the best the film has ever looked.
The audio has been upgraded to DTS-HD 7.1. Again, an improvement from the original 5.1 (even if purists may frown upon the fact that the original track is not included). The remix brings a very immersive, organic experience from things like crowd noise in the marketplace to the quiet moments when the music takes precedence. The biggest highlight of course is when the Genie debuts; his powers are a sonic hurricane. There's a reason this film was nominated for Best Sound and Sound Effects Editing at the '93 Academy Awards.
Along with the "classic extras" ported over from the first DVD release, we get some welcome new additions that emphasize paying tribute to Robin Williams and the new Broadway musical: There's "Aladdin: Creating Broadway Magic"; an 18-minute featurette on the creation of the musical production. "Unboxing Aladdin" is an overview of some 'Easter eggs' included in the film, and "Genie 101" is an explanation of the pop-culture references. Both of these last two are targeted to appeal to children, but to be honest, I enjoyed them. I was born in the 80s, so the Ed Sullivan and Peter Lorre impersonations flew over my head back when the film came out.
The big highlight of this Blu-ray are the "Genie Outtakes" - 9 more minutes of Robin Williams improvisations that are pretty funny; we get to see more character impersonations and gags accompanied by animated storyboards. I won't spoil it, but there's an alternate take of Genie after he rescues Aladdin, after he used his second wish that had me laughing hysterically! I presume it was dropped for not being very "G-rated."
The results do not disappoint, and I think Disney both fulfilled and exceeded expectations with this highly-anticipated Blu-ray release!
