A return to their roots, featuring the reunion of the best version of the band (or most of them), is never a bad thing when it comes to Santana. While some of the grittiness and energy may be not be there anymore, there is confidence here from grizzled vets who know what they're doing. That mix of blues and Afro-Cuban rhythms is as hot as ever. I'm not a fan of the spacey, fusion jams, but when they get down to business they still have it!
Let me begin by saying that this is not an action movie...it is a drama. While there are many battle scenes these are not the focus of the movie. It is about the struggles of people caught up in the battle of Stalingrad, soldiers (Russian and German) and civilians. The story is told by a rescuer (whose mother survived Stalingrad) to a victim under the rubble after a tsunami in Japan over half a century later. Great story...great acting. Highly recommended.
This is about the underside of Los Angeles, late 40's...drugs, prostitution, corruption, racism and violence (did I miss a vice?). Everyone plays a part in this tangled web...good, bad...who knows! A fascinating story with some well-known actors...well paced, some action...not a dull moment as you follow along to find out how everyone's involved and who'll come out on top in the end. Excellent!
Once I heard that a new addition to the Jurassic Park series was coming I just couldn't wait to see it...and I was not disappointed! The new park is amazing, with some new dinosaurs and reptiles to marvel at. I must admit to reservations with some of the plot elements, and the new top 'dinosaur' [don't want to give too much away], but this is a movie, not science, and as such, I was thoroughly entertained and left wanting more.
What happens when you kill the bad guys that take your daughter? The father of one decides he wants 'justice'. Well, he's messing with a man who possesses a 'certain skill set'. This movie takes over where 'Taken' left off. It is simply a fun action movie...the bad guys get what they deserve. Get some popcorn, turn off the lights and have a good time...'nuff said.
When I saw this item I figured "Well, why not?" It's about H.P. Lovecraft and it's on sale so I decided to check it out. While some of the short films in this anthology are alright, interesting/scary even, it was a bit of a struggle to sit through this film. It just doesn't flow and the storyline that ties this film together is especially annoying, it's attempts at being funny just didn't work for me Sorry.
Having all the 'Walking with...' series, I was interested in this movie. The visual graphics are stunning, as usual, I was not disappointed! I was a bit concerned about the reviews stating that a younger age group was targeted with this movie. Since I picked this up on sale, I still liked it but have to agree that this would be enjoyed better by a much younger person. I would definitely recommend this to someone with children.
This is a great collection from a prog-rock band that, thankfully, still seems to be going strong. Apparently one song from each of their albums, I was impressed with the quality, and consistency, of the material here. A touch of Yes here, a touch of Genesis there but a band all their own. I have a feeling this collection is only the tip of the iceberg but it's a great start...I gotta check out more of their material.
I wouldn't call this an anthology, it's more a collection of demos and live tracks. Whatever they call it, it is a good sample of tough, keyboard-oriented, melodic hard rock with plenty of guitar from a band that never really got a chance (thanks to grunge...timing is everything). If you can't get the original albums or just want to check out the band this is a great place to start.
A couple of NYC police officers run into a series of spooky crime scenes in the late-70's Bronx. It leads to a supernatural connection...and so the fun begins. A very good crime/horror drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The only small issue is a section before the ending seems a bit rushed but I don't believe it hurts the movie in any way (it is not a major part of the story).
