Best album of 2016 so far

Behold! This is the best album of 2016! I have been a huge fan of Katatonia for years and have been waiting for a follow up to their previous album Dead End Kings which is one of my all-time favorite albums! After 4 long years and some lineup changes, I feared the worst! My fears were completely unfounded! this album is almost perfect! The only reason I say almost is due to the fact that even this deluxe CD!DVD version it is not comprehensive as there are 3 more studio tracks floating around on different versions and there's no single version that has them all. This version has the most tracks though, a total of 13 and also had a DVD with 5.1 mixes of the album. If you are a fan of Opeth, progressive metal, progressive rock, but like a more melancholy sound, this album should be added to your cart now!

One of the top 2 progressive albums of 2016 so far

Haken has always been a powerful beast in the realm of progresive metal and rock. While their past releases had huge doeses of 70's progressive rock mixed with metal, this album took more influence from 80's progressive rock to amazing results. This should have been a caustic mix but somehow they pulled in off into something absolutely essential for anyone who likes top-notch progressive music (Opeth fans take note). I mean there are some keyboard tones that are very 80's that makes you feel like you are somewhere between "The Final Countdown" or the soundtrack to Transformers: the movie (animated). Heck, one of the songs has a keyboard intro that sounds like it belongs on some 80's cop/courtroom drama TV show. But all that aside, the songs are truly epic, well played, well written, and right now if you haven't done so already you should be clicking "add to cart" and buying this sucker because it is truly an amazing experience! The kicker, I HATE 80's music but I love this! Seriously, but this now or at least sample on their Youtube page if you don't take my word for it!
By the way, if you are wondering what the other top progressive album is that I was eluding to, it is the new Katatonia album which is also a must buy!

Their best yet, but the vocalist holds them back

So a few releases back, Fallujah started becoming less of a straight up technical death metal band and started gravitating towards a 50/50 blend of their old sound with an equal mix of 90's shoegaze rock with spacey guitar ambiance akin to bands like Rush, Ride, and the like. This album is that new sound full realized and with spectacular results. the songs are very lush in atmosphere yet still have heavy guitars in the mix and very technical blast beats and fills from the metal side. The downside all is in regards to the vocals which are holding this band back. They have some great guest vocalists who provide some great melodic vocals at time, especially the female ones, but this feels like a band-aid for the fact their actually vocalist is a one-note cookie monster vocalist who more often than not is so drowned out in the mix he almost might as well not be there. There are SOME cases where he works perfectly but there are just as many times he is drowned out or the song lacks vocals entirely making me wonder what the heck he does during these songs in live sets. While the death vocals are some of the better in the tech-death genre, this band deserves more. I'd love to see him have a lot more range on the next album and be in 100% of the songs on the album without needing guests to fill the voids. Still a great album, its just they were SO close to perfection but the lack of better vocals and to presence of too many instrumental interludes holds this back.

Finally a fun console experience my 9 year old daughter can play and her older sisters enjoy playing with her! The world building sandbox is great if you are into Minecraft but found it has started to get stale! Why can't more games offer 2 player split screen like this does?

This movie is a true Vacation movie as it has the heart and feel of the originals with some added raunchiness similar to the Hangover and Hot Tub Time Machine. I think the addition of raunchiness was a turn off to some but I found it hilarious! Do not miss this Vacation! You earned it!

Ignite returns but not in a great way...

I love Ignite! I mean they have had some amazing releases throughout the years and their last album was spectacular before they seemingly vanished. When I heard they were working on a new album, I was super excited. When this came out though, it was kind of a disappointment. Their vocalist didn't sound as passionate as before, the music lacked the variety and energy of their earlier stuff, and worst off was the album was front loaded with the worst songs (at least it picks up on the second half a little bit). A not menorable album from a legendary hardcore band...

A legend's swan songs...

The man was a genius to the very end! I love this album so much! The last track "I can't Give Everything Away" is such a bittersweet final track of this final album I still get choked up listening to it. This CD was probably his strongest one since his Tin Machine era or Scary Monsters in my opinion. My all time favorite Bowie song though and may be the greatest song ever written in my opinion is "Life On Mars" but this album is truly solid! RIP Ziggy Stardust!
