I must start this by telling you how much I loved Twelve Foot Ninja's last album "Silent Machine" and have waited an agonizingly long time for this album to come. Once again we get a core of djent metal being twisted into all sorts of different directions including reggae/ska, bossanova, folk, and some other stuff in between. The entire album is perfect and the sound production is amazing if not a textbook example of how to make music sound perfect. The song "Point Of You" is catchier than herpes and more enjoyable than the act of catching it! The only flaw this album has is it's a bit short at 38 minutes which is about 7 minutes shorter than their last album but rest assured this is the superior album and one of the best this year!

I bought this for my daughter but found myself amazed how much music there is here (2 discs) and how a history lesson on Alexander Hamilton can actually be made interesting and entertaining. For those of you with sheltered kids there are a few bad words here and there but getting past that it is very well done.

When these guys first debuted on the scene with their EP I was stunned how progressive it was as well as having some very catchy grooves. Their first full length came and it seemed to have devolved to generic death metal with occasional callback to the EP but never even close to being as good! This album feels like they studied their debut EP to make a worthy follow up. They succeeded! Each song is better than the previous, the sound is varied, and the performances spot on! Buy this now!

I cannot begin to tell you how great this new Periphery album is but I'll try! This album continues the progressive djent sound they've been developing over the last 3 albums and EP with heavy and atmospheric at times music that can both be harsh (in a good way) AND melodic. Spencer Sotelo can belt out high notes with such range it's superhuman. Just click buy already as I could ramble on forever about this album!

My kids and I are DC fans! My kids love Teen Titans (NOT Teen Titans Go!) and Justice League so this seemed like a no-brainer. Fortunately this isn't the stupid Tenn a Titans Go incarnation but unfortunately it's not the original series either though it nods much more to the original than Go thankfully as the Titans are grown up with Raven being the leader of a new pack. The story is basically another Danien Wayne story where Bruce sends him to the Titans as a form of boot camp and of course he rebels until a big conflict comes along which is not too interesting. Really the Damien Wayne story is getting old as well. There's nothing wrong with this story but it lacks what makes the characters special.

I have always loved this band but I feel like I've been outgrowing their sound for the last few albums instead gravitating to more progressive stuff. In this album, it feels like they are painfully aware this is happening with a lot of their fans and they tried to change things up leaving me with a mixed bag. There are a couple of songs with their first foray into clean vocals which actually work well even if they are used pretty minimally. I suspect those are Trojan horses to a whole new sound for their next album which is welcomed. There are some other sounds explored on this album that don't feel as successful unfortunately making the album feel a bit repetitive one moment and then very disjointed in others. It's all interesting but much of it fails to get me excited the way they did back in the day. Again, I don't think it's them as much as its me. You should still check it out if you've liked them or this style in the past, just don't expect to be blown away!

Chelsea Grin started as a good but generic deathcore band in the vein of Suicide Silence. Then something remarkable happened, they got Jason Richardson formerly of Born Of Osiris in their ranks and released the amazing Evolve EP and evolve is exactly what they did! They kept the aggression of deathcore and but out it on a note djenty technical foundation unsurprisingly similar to Born Of Osiris! They then recorded Ashes To Ashes which was an epic expansion on the sound of Evolve and a long album full of great music from beginning to end. Then it happened, they lost Jason Richardson. This album is still great. While mostly sticking to the sound of Ashes To Ashes, there are some throwback moments to the old genetic deathcore sounds of the past but just enough to satisfy the old fans who couldn't evolve (pun intended) without making them too stripped down or boring again. My big complaint is this album is way shorter than Ashes To Ashes making me feel like I didn't get my money's worth though at the same time the whole thing is still a great album!

It's been a long time since the last Gojira album! After many setbacks for the band they delivered a new album and it did not disappoint. Musically this is closest to From Mars To Sirius which is my favorite album by them. The production is crisp, textured, and heavy! Where this album falls short of being my favorite is due to the lacking amount of content. 2 of the tracks aren't real songs but instrumental interludes. One of them is okay but the last one is a complete waste. Instrumental interludes in my opinion really should be avoided when the total playing time is already less than desired especially on such a long delayed release. 2 more full songs would've been great! All in all still some great music even with those blemishes!

Architects last album really put them on the map for me and had flawless production marked by abrasive djenty tunes with bold atmospherics. This album hones in on that sound more. The only problem is it feels a little bit less passionate or inspired than their last album which is a shame! It's a really good album but it could've been a little bit better...

Thrice is back and I couldn't be happier! This album picks up where they left off and brings us kind of a best of style wise from Vheissu to the last album! While this album isn't as perfect as Vheissu, it is just as great as all of the albums that followed it! There are some heavy moments, reflective moments, and the only miss is the pointless instrumental interlude which is the album's only real flaw. It feels short for some reason but it really isn't that short. If you like heavy rock with metal, hardcore, and folk leanings, this is for you! If you like Thrice's past releases, well why don't you one this already?!
