Very well made film of a true story.

Surprisingly good for a movie you already know is going to end well. The movie is of course about the 33 miners trapped over a 1000 feet underground in Chile with 3 days of food and water who managed to last over 2 weeks, long enough for rescuers to drive a hole to drop supplies. And then they had to wait another month to get a shaft down big enough to extract them. a solid cast makes this work, helping us feel what both the miners and their families and friends outside were going through. Saying Antonio Banderas does a fine job should come as no surprise, but Lou Diamond Phillips turns in one of if not the best performance of his career. All in all, well worth watching.

Natural Born Killers was criticized for its violence when released in theaters, and this director's cut release restores even more graphic content. Only huge fans of the film are likely to be interested in these additional scenes, but for those interested in learning how Oliver Stone ticks, it's a great study of the mind of the director. Also included are several surreal deleted scenes, including two featuring Ashley Judd and Denis Leary, as well as an alternate ending. Stone's commentary, which is prefaced with a Trimark Pictures disclaimer as not reflecting the company's views, proves he really does have a grasp of the medium, and the "making of" featurette with the cast and crew reinforces the idea that this film was made in an "inmates running the asylum" manner. For those interested in the controversy or looking for an education in violent experimental filmmaking, this disc is loaded with goodies.

Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers" is not just a movie, it is an experience. It is a wild, dark ride that serves as a study of today's culture and it's fascination with violence. This movie is not so much about the killers, but about how the killers capture the public. The screenplay is masterfully structured with moments of vicious rage, deepness, dark comedy and powerful visual images. The film is hypnotically watchable due to the great mixing of different film formats, camera angles, colors and the breathtaking cinematography of Robert Richardson. "Natural Born Killers" is a great study of where our culture is going. Stone is a genius of cinema, one of the greatest directors there has ever been. This movie is effective, provocative, feverish and driven. It's electrifying. In fact, it's not as violent as you may think it is. It's the break neck speed it goes at and it's intense feeling. "Natural Born Killers" is both intense and brilliantly nightmarish. It's disturbing, as it should be. This serves as a slap on America's face, to wake it up. "Natural Born Killers" is a masterpiece, as Roger Ebert said: "Seeing this movie once is not enough."

A Tarantino Classic

Pulp Fiction was a groundbreaking film in a couple of different ways. It was an independent release and its success opened the door up for all kinds of maverick filmmakers and companies to release films that otherwise would have never been made. It also had a profound stylistic influence. It was a hip movie with sharp dialogue, graphic violence, cool soundtrack and intricate plot lines. In the wake of its success, many movies try to copy this style, but most failed as they lacked Quentin Tarantino's unique vision. Mr. Tarantino was able to pull John Travolta out of a decade long funk and directed him to the finest performance of his career and one that garnered his second Academy Award nomination. He also pushed Bruce Willis to a stellar performance that showed he was more than just an action hero. The cast is first rate including a beguiling Uma Thurman, Ving Rhames, Harvey Keitel, Eric Stolz, Rosanna Arquette and Christopher Walken. The best performance of all is given by Samuel L. Jackson who is absolutely amazing. It was a crime that he did not win the Academy Award for the role. Pulp Fiction is broken up into three parts and includes flashbacks, flash-forwards and twists and turns and some mysteries that are never revealed. It is a rare film that is both stylish and full of substance. The new Collector's Edition is a huge step up from the original edition which offered virtually no extras. The sound and visuals are crisper and cleaner and the extra features are great. One excellent extra is a Siskel & Ebert show dedicated to the Tarantino phenomenon, which looking at it eight years later is quite interesting.

Eli Roth Movies I always watch

PLOT...
Five college friends head up to a remote cabin in the woods for a weekend of sun-drenched fun, making out and booze, however they are disrupted by an unwelcome guest with a rotting skin virus, they decide to get rid of him unwittingly end up contaminating the water supply, the five friends slowly become contaminated and the violence escalates as they will do anything to survive.
The remake really isn't that bad, I really enjoyed it a lot, its certainly not a mega low budget effort, its a great looking movie with nice locations and plenty of gore, the movie is based on the original script and the director Eli Roth, being a big fan made the movie pretty much almost the same but with lots of changes here and there and added new things to the mix, and of course slightly modernized it somewhat with the dialogue and jokes, The cast is pretty good, your average young cast of college kids that are ready for the slaughter, some cheesiness to the acting but you do expect it really, the best added cast change was Louise Linton as Deputy Winston, making that character a female was a great change and i think it worked really well, the blood is plentiful and maybe even a tad better than before, some scenes are particularly gory and look great especially towards the end, the effects look pretty much practical most part and all look good even down to the rabid bloody dog! I think in some ways the re-make is better, its certainly more suspenseful at all times with its over the top soundtrack score, its a tad more serious and less comical than the original, the original is still a stand out great movie but I think this re-make is really worth a chance especially of course if you love Roth's original. I think the haters either haven't really seen it or they just don't like the original.

A great Blu Ray from Arrow

If it's not obvious enough from the title, Bride of Re-Animator (1989) owes a much bigger debt to the Universal horror films than Lovecraft's complex mythology of inter dimensional monsters. It's essentially a Frankenstein story with Dr. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) and Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) continuing their ethically questionable experiments on body parts lifted from the hospital pathology lab.
Escaping any real fallout from the "Miskatonic Massacre" that ended the first film, Herbert is now creating a re-animated freak show in their basement lab, patching together limbs, digits and eyeballs with reckless abandon. Cain, meanwhile, still pines after his dead fiance, Meg (although Barbara Crampton doesn't return); so much so that he doesn't object too much when Herbert installs her heart into the latest conglomeration of body parts downstairs. But fate throws a monkey wrench into their scientific plans when the severed head of Dr. Hill (David Gale) plots his revenge, using several re-animated corpses and a grief-stricken cop to do the legwork.
If all that sounds a bit choppy and disconnected, director Brian Yuzna admits he feels the same way. Starting with an odd sequence in Peru where Herbert and Dan are mixed up in a civil war, Bride of Re-Animator feels more like a pitch session than a finished script. The film never has a chance to build momentum, moving from one gag to another - like the "finger-monster" created by stop-motion animator David Allen and Dr. Hill's grafted bat-wings that improbably allow his severed head to fly - with the aim of pleasing the Fangoria crowd.
And as a purely visceral re-cap of the first film, Bride of Re-Animator gets the job done admirably. Yuzna does a good job recapturing the slightly twisted tone, and Jeffrey Combs slips back into mad scientist mode without missing a beat. Even the constant barrage of practical effects - especially the quick parade of freaks created by Screaming Mad George - are sure to give an audience of like-minded fans their money's worth. But it's lacking the "spark" of the original, something that all the fluorescent green re-agent in the world can't seem to bring back.
Arrow Video's Blu-ray DVD limited edition is well worth the investment for those who disagree. Featuring a brand-new 2K restoration of the unrated version (and a second disc of the R-rated cut), the two-disc set comes with a pair of commentaries, new featurettes on the effects, an on-camera interview with Yuzna, a pair of deleted scenes, a ton of behind-the-scenes footage, liner notes and new cover artwork. A sweet set for an average film.

Watch the 3D version.

If you are a fan of 3D movies and love a fun, campy, "horror" movie then this is the blu-ray to buy!
The 3D movie is an extra on the disc - which seems strange as its only marketed on the back of the cover as an extra and the quality of the 2D movie is not very good. The main 2D feature quality is extremely grainy. The real 3D is a treat to behold! It's real 3D and not blue and red lenses in cardboard.
The main titles alone appeared to stretch across my living room and several scenes have gags that appear to come so far out of the TV that it almost makes you cross-eyed ,
The move is not as good as the original or 2nd one. It is campy and fun though to watch.

I previously owned this movie on the double feature blu ray. When I saw Shout Factory was releasing this along with the original one I had to have them both. This movie has so much extras on the blu ray. It you have the bare bones original double feature blu ray then you got to own the two stand alone blu rays.
This takes place only hours after the first one. It has a group of kids who are stuck on a bus en route to a game. The demon creeper needs to feed. There are a lot of kills .There is a lot of cool special effects. Lots of gore.
If you like a great creature from who kills lots of teens. Then this is a movie for you.
I can hardly wait for Jeepers Creepers 3 which is done.

On Halloween night, a group of the United States’ most notorious serial killers escape from Statesville Asylum and descend upon a giant funhouse whose theme is based on their different reigns of terror. The only people left to stop the killers are a rag-tag group of college kids, a clueless deputy and the local sheriff . To all my gore fans and to those who like the tongue in cheek type of movie. I loved this movie because of the diversity of the killers. Lots of gore and shocks and frights. Not for the faint of heart.

If you are going to watch Jaws 1-3 you might as well finish off the series! I love these types of movies which is why it gets 4 stars . This is the worst of the Jaws movies. There are so many better shark movies out there than this one.

"Jaws 2" is an interesting sequel. At least it has Roy Scheider -once again playing the role of Chief Martin Brody -, and it has John Williams' familiar shark theme. The movie has its fine moments, especially the attack on the kids' catamarans and Brody's obssession with the shark. However, I find exaggerating the scene when the shark swims like a torpedo in order to attack a water skier. And what about the shark attacking on a helicopter? Oh, please!!! No way I could buy that.
However, the extras on this Blu Ray are quite interesting. The behind-the-scenes featurette is fantastic at explaining what Director Jeannot Szwarc and crew went through while filming. I personally felt happy at watching John Williams as he explained the process of making the music for this film. And let's not forget the deleted scenes, which makes me wonder why they are not included in the final cut. All in all, this Blu Ray is worth buying.
