Pretty sweet 4K TV
on April 14, 2020

There’s not much you can say that’s negative about this TV. It’s got everything you’d want in a big screen TV. Picture quality is spot on and really delivers 4K quality. The picture quality is super clear and the range of colors is quite impressive. Deep blacks and vibrant colors really make the TV pop whenever you’re watching 4K content. Blu-ray comes out really nice. It has all the streaming apps you'd need, i.e. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc. It also has Apple TV which I think is amusing.
The TV itself looks really nice. It’s almost a bezel-less design. The bezel is maybe about a quarter of an inch wide so it’s hardly noticeable. Gives a very clean look to the TV which I really like. The TV is pretty thin too.
Couple things I didn’t like about the TV.
The refresh rate on the TV is only 60hz. For a 4K TV, I’d expect it to be at least 120hz. This is more a nice-to-have however I would’ve figured any 4K TV to have a better refresh rate than 60hz.
The remote is a bit laggy at times. Sometimes you’ll hit a button and it’ll take a second or two to register sometimes. You’ll end up hitting the wrong button or hitting a button twice. Kind of irritating. This also makes navigating the menu screen irritating since you'll end up hitting the wrong button quite often.
When setting up your TV for the first time, you’re prompted to do so by downloading the companion app. You’ll need to setup an account in order to do this. Personally, I already have a Samsung account but I think this step is unnecessary. You can still setup through the remote though.
Overall, great TV with lots of features. Big size TV with a relatively small footprint. Great screen quality and features to boot.

Ooh...purty lights.
on March 27, 2020

Really impressed with this keyboard. While this is the lower tier keyboard from SteelSeries, I think it’s still a decent keyboard for gaming or for just normal use. The keyboard has soft keys so it doesn’t have that click when you press the keys. Some people prefer that however I don’t. I like the fact they keys are fairly quite. The LED lights on this keyboard are very cool. I have mine setup at 2 seconds intervals and it cycles through the range of colors on the keyboard. Really like this aspect more than anything else. Nice rainbow of colors on my desk.
One issue I noticed is the height of the keys. With the LEDs, it adds a bit of height to the keys which takes a bit of getting used to. The magnetic wrist rest helps a bit but typing on this keyboard does take a little getting used to.
That said, still a solid feeling keyboard and the lights alone make it worth the purchase.

Nice, lightweight suitcase with plenty of room
on March 9, 2020
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I really like the suitcase in that it offers a large(r) amount of storage as well as being lightweight. I took this on a trip to NYC a few weeks ago and it worked out great. I took the train so this wasn't subjected to the abuse of a American Airlines or Delta flight unfortunately. That said, it held up just fine on the train ride to/from NYC without issue. It even managed to hold up well being carted around NYC sidewalks. The wheels on this suitcase are nice in that they're pretty quiet as well as roll quite smoothly on any surface. It goes well from concrete to carpet to hardwood floor without any skipping or catching on anything.
The biggest thing I liked about this suitcase was the compression pad. I'm a bit of a pack rat and I'm one of those people that will bring 5 sets of clothes for a 2 day trip....and wear the same thing everyday. With the compression pad/straps, I'm able to bring a lot more clothes but still have room for things like souvenirs or random odd things I buy while travelling. I was able to fit a good amount of clothing in my suitcase so I was quite pleased with that. The other big benefit I liked about the compression pad is that I hate unpacking my clothes whenever I hit the hotel. With the compression pad, as well as some packing cubes, I can live out of my suitcase easily and not have to unpack everything.
Overall, great big suitcase that will work for those long trips. I'm hoping to get some overseas travel this year so I'll definitely be bringing this suitcase along for that. Now the real test is whether it'll hold up to air travel.

Just kind of meh, good for beginner PC user
on January 10, 2020

Overall I’d classify this headset as average. There’s really nothing about this that’s standout or extraordinary...it’s just a regular headset. I have Turtle Beach/Astros/Logitech headphones, all of which are really nice. This headset is just a stereo headset that plugs into PC/PS4.
Sound wise it’s average. No real punchy bass or crisp highs. Everything is just kind of in the middle of the EQ. I didn’t like the volume in that, at full blast, it wasn’t really as loud as I would’ve hoped.
The mic is ok. I’ve had numerous problems with these plug in mics from previous headsets so I’m not going to be surprised if these start acting up soon too.
I did like the fit of these headphones though. They are a bit snug, even for a big head like mine. But they were comfortable even after a 5 hr Destiny session.
This headset would be nice for a beginner or maybe your kid? If you want or expect a nice headset then you need to move along and go pick some Astro’s or something. Price on this is quite low so you’re getting a baseline headset without much frills.

Looks nice, functions terribly with iPhone
on November 19, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
Aesthetically this is a really nice looking watch. However the performance is still sub par, at best, which is quite disappointing.
I own a Gen 4 Apple Watch as well as this Fossil Gen 5 watch. The Apple watch is pretty much spot on in every aspect. It syncs well, great battery life, and syncs with everything on my iPhone (as it naturally should). Pretty hard to beat so I wasn’t expecting too much from this Fossil watch….and I wasn’t disappointed.
I really dig the look of this watch without question. Its smoke tint offers a really nice aesthetic to the watch. The only thing I don’t really like about my Apple watch is that it doesn’t really look like a watch. I prefer the circular look of a watch and this Fossil watch is spot on in that respect. So +1 to the Fossil for visual appeal. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much where the praise stops.
As far as syncing, it does basic syncing with my iPhone. However, it doesn’t always work. For instance, I will get a notification that I received a text on the watch. If there is a quick follow up text afterwards, I may/may not get the notification. The lag when swiping on the watch is down right irritating. Sometimes it’ll work, other times it’ll tell me to swipe again or in another direction. Sometimes, when pressing icons, it’ll lag and then I’ll hit another icon and the first icon I pressed will launch. Battery life is meh. I can get about 2 days on my Apple watch without recharging whereas this Fossil watch might get about 10-12 hours.
Considering this is a 5th gen device, one would think they would’ve worked out all the kinks in WearOS but clearly this is not the case. Granted, I am pairing this WearOS watch with my iPhone so there may be something to that. Perhaps this watch would work better with an Android watch. If that’s the case then this should really be marketed for Android devices and not “compatible with iOS”. I’m hoping that there will be an update in the near future that will address some of these issues however, having been a previous Android phone user, I’m not holding my breath.
For now, this watch looks pretty cool however its functionality could use a HUGE boost in consistency.

Pretty standard for a printer
on November 14, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue

Can't really say anything bad about this printer. It's a printer and functions as one would expect a printer to function. Print quality is pretty good. I don't have a need for printing out photos so I can't really comment on photo quality but I'm happy with the print quality. Other functions of the printer are pretty standard fare as well. Price is pretty good however, as with most other printers, the ink is pretty expensive. For a full black/color cartridge set, it's almost the same price as the printer itself. You would, by now, a company would come out with cheap ink however they're all pretty much the same these days with cheap printers and expensive ink.

It's OK, nothing great. Does the job in a pinch
on November 7, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I thought having one of these portable projectors would be a cool thing to have. The thought of having a portable big screen TV for video games or watching movies seems like a cool idea. This one, falls a bit short in my opinion.
The unit itself is about 8 x 6 inches and around 3 inches tall. So it is pretty compact and definitely portable. It's fairly lightweight but seems almost fragile when you hold it. Seems like it's very low quality plastic. Doesn't feel sturdy or rigid like one would expect.
There are plenty of connections for this projector. You get 2 HDMI slots, VGA, USB and even a microSD slot so there's no worries about it not being compatible with what you are looking to connect to it. I tested this out using my Google Pixelbook with HDMI to USB-C connector. The projector is about 8 feet or so from the wall in the video. At full 1920 x 1080 resolution, everything was super tiny and noticeably pixelated. Not really high quality resolution but, considering the price of this, wasn't really expecting anything mind blowing in terms of quality. I found that 800 x 600 resolution looked the best for my room setup so yours may vary.
There is a noticeable noise coming from the fans on this projector. If you're old enough to remember the teacher flipping on the projector in class for a presentation or slideshow, you'll also remember that smell which this projector also has. The noise is expected but it does get a bit annoying at times. The speaker on the projector is very basic so don't expect much output from it.
While this is neat and does the job, I think it could've been a bit better in terms of resolution. Considering the price, this isn't a huge investment so you get what you pay for I guess. I'm using this just as a way to project my Netflix since I don't have a TV in the guest bedroom. Again, it does the job but not as well as you'd hope.

Great portable workout
on November 2, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue

This system is really nice for a portable workout when traveling or way from home. This is a suspension system so it's not one of those elastic/rubber band type workout. Basically you use your own body as the weights and workout that way.
Comes with a nice handy pouch to store everything in. Straps are pretty heavy duty so no worries about them breaking down or anything.
Pretty cool overall and hopefully help out for getting into shape in the new year.

A bit disappointing for an “ultimate” edition
on October 15, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I’ve used AVG before on my laptop and Android phone. The phone app was pretty decent as it was free and provided some measure of protection. The computer application was equally cool as well for the price. Never had any major issues with it and it seemed to work well. This ultimate edition software, I figured should be just as good as previous versions however this one is a bit lacking.
All the major features are in this software for the most part. There is the virus scanner, internet security and hacker/privacy scan. I figured for an “ultimate” edition, this would include all their services however, I now constantly get reminders that my PC is slowed down by this or that. In order to resolve these issues, I have to pay additional monthly/annual fees. It’s not even that much but the simple fact that on top of buying this “ultimate” edition software, you have to pay more.
There are other free software that will do what you have to pay to do in this AVG software so I’m a little confused as to the need for nickel and diming customers. Seems like a cheap move to be honest

Perfect for the lazy and incompetent chef
on October 12, 2019
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I'm a terrible cook. And I'm lazy. Enter the Crock-Pot.
I find this quite convenient and a must-have for anyone who can't cook or is lazy. I am both. What I really enjoy about this is that its pretty much set-and-forget for the most part. I tested this out by making something basic; chicken noodle soup. Really it's as easy as chopping up some veggies, cutting up some chicken and throwing everything in here along with some broth. A few hours later, I have 7 quarts of chicken noodle soup which is GREAT. Really simple and easy to cook with.
This thing is somewhat of a pain to clean due to the size/weight of the cooking bowl. Something definitely for the dishwasher and not hand washing.
Buttons and cooking instructions are pretty simple/straightforward as well. I do recommend you looking online for some recipes and I think you'll have a great time cooking with this thing.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
By LouRevue from Washington, DC
Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop.
Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task.
As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard.
Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice.
The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound.
One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice.
A couple concerns with this laptop were;
The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here.
The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops.
While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of.
Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.

I own both the active and regular 65T's and I don't see any noticeable difference between them. Aside from the IP rating, there's really not much difference. Both fit exactly the same and fit pretty snugly in the ear.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

Can this light be controlled by a existing wired wall switch? I plan to replace the light that is already there with this one, but I would prefer to use the wired switch.

Yes you can...that's what I did. One thing to note is that the light won't come on immediately like your current light fixture does. There's a second or two delay after you flip the switch. I'm planning on replacing the switch with a dimmer switch so maybe that will correct the delay.
