It Does Not Go To 11

OK, truth be told, I love this little speaker!
As a former guitar player who has countless hours both in studio and on stage, I am quite familiar with the lineage that is Marshall. While I almost always played through Mesa Boogie pre-amps, tube power amps and 2 4x12 Mesa Boogie cabinets, I will admit that I always loved the pure Marshall tone and sound that my other guitarist got from his Marshall JCM 800 head unit. The tone was... Well, truly and only Marshall. I can say that they did a yeomans job in extending that heritage to this little speaker.
First impressions, the packaging struck me as slightly higher in quality than from some other popular wireless speakers I have used. Opening the box, it was packaged as to be expected. Remove the top layer of snug protective Styrofoam and the speaker was next wrapped in solid dust-jacket. A simple pull on the dust-jacket and this gorgeous speaker pulled right out.
Here is where I started to fall in love... This unit had the classic look and feel of Marshall's legendary pre/power amps. Beautiful textured black covering juxtaposed against the classic gold inset and the positive feedback of the volume and tone knobs brought me right back into the studios and stages in the early 90's.
Continuing the un-boxing and the usual suspects were included: US power chord, UK power chord, a simple set-up guide and the obligatory warning sheet in 27 languages.
Set up was simple... Plug in, hold the momentary power switch and she came to life. The red LED's showing the settings for volume and tone knobs were quite cool. It certainly added to the overall quality of the unit.
I downloaded the app to my phone and the pairing was as quick as it was simple. Once it was paired, there was about a 6 minute Bluetooth firmware upgrade, it was good to.
Before I preview the actual speaker, let me note that while I have seen reviews that slammed the app, it has been rock solid for me. Is it particularly robust? Not really, but is it perfectly serviceable and effective? Yes, very much so. You can easily control the EQ from the app as well as the cool red lights. Not sure what some others wanted, but it did everything I would want/need.
Great, but how does it sound? Short answer is awesome. The first thing I played was 5 Finger Death Punch "Wrong Side Of Heaven". The sound was fantastic. The lows were deep and room filling. The mids were fantastically crisp and perfectly balanced against the lows and crisply framed the highs. The highs were also fantastic. very crisp and natural sounding. I then tested several other songs from metal to country to classical and this little lady handled with aplomb each and every scenario I tossed at her. Very impressive. The tone was fantastic, the sound room filling and all packaged in that beautiful little Marshall frame. Excellent.
Other nice features include multiple input options from Bluetooth to 3.5 mm jack to RCA allowing for multiple source options. That said, in some speakers I have used, the Bluetooth occasionally does not offer quite as high audio as compared to wired but this speaker is able to bring BT to almost wired quality. Very well done, Marshall.
If I have to find something to offer as a negative, it's that this doe not go to 11... It would be nice if it were Nigel Tufnel approved and went to 11. If you get the reference, yes, I agree, one of the funniest movies ever.
All seriousness, this is a fantastic little speaker and would be great for garages, basements, man caves but also with its pure beauty, just as comfortable in any living area of the house. I would certainly recommend this to a friend. I rarely give 5 star ratings, but I honestly can find no reason to offer any less.

Great BIG Microwave!
on January 23, 2019
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
OK, probably best place to start... This thing is a BOSS, it's huge! Almost beastly, BUT I do not mean that as a pejorative, I mean that as a complete compliment. It is BIG. We went from a 10 year old, .8 cu. ft, 950 watt LG that had been great, to this 2.2 cu. ft, 1250 watt beast and it is by orders of magnitude larger. This is a good thing, but make sure to measure your space to allow for required venting. Really nice.
As mentioned, we have used a 950 watt for 10+ years so that is our baseline. This 1250 watt unit certainly cooks more quickly and more even than our old unit. I would say this cooks in 1/3 less total time and offers a better end-delivery.
Packaging was to be expected for consumer grade product, finish is really nice. Very attractive unit. Set up was simple. My 13 year old daughter set it up in just a couple minutes. Controls are intuitive (as they should be).
The interior is cavernous without being overbearing. The one minor nitpicking bug I might submit is the interior LED light. While it is most certainly serviceable and adequate, it is not quite as bright as our previous units incandescent bulb was, but to be fair, this little LED has 3 times the area to illuminate so this is certainly an acceptable trade off.
In all, if you are ready or in need to upgrade your current microwave, I would be hard-pressed to find a reason why this would not be an excellent choice for this price-point. Really nice unit with very good features.
In all, I would emphatically recommend it to friend.

I really Like Them!

We have a micro-ranch in the Foothills of the Rockies in Colorado. Just a shade under 12 acres and in a semi-mountainous terrain. Our metal shop is at the far end of the property and we have no issues talking from inside the shop with all doors closed to the far end of the property.
I really like knowing that the 16 year old son and 14 year old daughter can be out on the ATV's with these units instead of their $700 phones if anything comes up. It's also nice if they need something to take care of property or tend to the animals, they can call ahead and we can have whatever they need ready to go for them.
While I can't vouch for the advertised 23 mile range, I can attest that for our unique needs, these are nice little units.
In all, I would recommend them if you have the need.

It's OK, but has some issues
on January 8, 2019
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
OK, here is the deal...
The good:
+ Very attractive
+ High quality feel and appearance
+ Pretty dang "cool"
+ Honestly makes a good cup of coffee
+ Solid packaging
The equal:
= Not as easy to use as other machines
= Has a built in water filter that was not easy to set up, and for us, we don't need it
= It's good for the "coffee artist", but for a "quick cup", there are better options
The areas for improvement:
- Set up needs improvement
- Non-Intuitive use
- It's kinda' crazy, like Sybil
- Learning curve is steep
- Takes some time craft a cup
OK, how did we get here?
As mentioned, good looking unit, has a quality feel, makes a great cup of coffee and hey, who wouldn't want to have a classic looking espresso machine on their counter to impress their friends? These are the reasons we like it.
That said, there are areas for improvement...
The set up was unnecessarily difficult. My wife and I are both college educated. She is a full time Commissioned Officer and Firefighter/Paramedic for a major metropolitan Fire Department and I have worked high-tech for 2+ decades. We had to set it up 4 times to get it right, and yes, we DID read the manual. Every time we would set it up, it would react with a new idiosyncrasy while leaving a previously displayed idiosyncrasy on the shelf. Water would spurt from the steam spout unexpectedly one time while next time at same step water would spew from the coffee dispenser and the next time nothing would happen. It was strange.
We also experienced a couple errors that were seemingly unexplained but were fixed after starting over 2 or 3 times. It was a little frustrating.
Once we got it set up and had a few days to burn it in, we have had some errors come up that were not specifically difficult to clear, but were certainly not intuitive to correct. Are these deal breakers? Not necessarily, but they are certainly somewhat frustrating.
We have also noticed that it seems to take a little longer to get a decent cup than from our other higher-end unit that uses pods. To be fair, this unit creates fresh grounds every time, so it is a trade off. It also seems to use water more than one would think. The drain tank fills up quicker than we expected but I think that's because it expel's water at every start-up process.
End of the day to compare to a BBQ smoker; as a true BBQ low-and-slow smoker purist like I am, I compare this machine to the hard-wood-low-and-long smoking process that is more art than science. If you love the "craft" of finer coffee for you and your guests, this is probably a decent choice.
If you are however more the person who wants to drop a pod, load some milk and press a button like the guy or gal who prefers an auto-feed electric smoker for your BBQ, there are better choices for you. I know, comparing high-end coffee makers to BBQ smokers is an acute dichotomy, but I find it to be quite accurate. I hope SOMEONE can appreciate the polarity!
Not a bad unit, but for our needs, I would not recommend to a friend (unless that friend was a coffee artist).

Nice Little Unit

This is my first foray into non-manual facial grooming so truth be told, I have little to compare it to. That said, so far it's a great little unit. It comes with 4 attachments that can do most anything I can imagine would be needed. The battery life is great and the fact that it has a built in vacuum makes for easy clean-up and less mass.
In all, I would certainly recommend it both for personal use and as gift for the right person.

Impressive, With Room For A Small Improvement
on December 11, 2018

First impression:
This little set is packaged well. Opened and everything had a quality feel and positive tactile feedback.
Pillbox carry case / charger is great. Compact, lightweight and easy to carry in pocket.
Earbuds are small, solid, light and have quality feel.
Out of box:
Earbuds were charged a little bit, pillbox carrier/charger was about 75% charged. Charged all for 45 minutes and was good to go.
Pairing:
Simple (Android). Literally 30 seconds and both nodes paired, no fuss.
Connectivity:
Wow. These little buds have GREAT range, and I don't ALL CAPS for nuthin'. The range was better than several more expensive units I have tested. Stereo was synched instantly as I tested going out of range and then coming back in range. Really impressive.
Sound:
Very good. These are not Sonos/Sonance, Bose, Polk et al but the sound is great. For tiny buds, I can give them a solid 8.5 on sound. I'm impressed.
Fit:
They fit this Fat Daddy's ear great. I took them for a 45 minute fast-walk and they did great. I would question a little how they would do during a high intensity work out, but for casual stuff they are great.
Areas for improvement:
External controls are... Well... Almost worthless. I would have LOVED separate volume/track controls. I understand why they don't have them. That's A LOT of engineering into a small package for this value price.
Final thoughts:
Wow. For the price, come on. Can't be beat. These are great. Very good sound, great battery life, comfort. I would proudly recommend them to a friend.
The improvements I would suggest: Ad a couple buttons for volume up/down and power.
Other than that, fantastic workout companions.

Decent Laptop
on December 1, 2018
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
This is a very decent little laptop. It's very light weight, sleek, and portable. The battery life is above average. One charge will last longer than my other laptop. The fingerprint authentication is great and the pin recognition is very handy. The keyboard is a little on the smaller side, and I have small hands, so if you have larger hands you can expect to have some difficulty.
I wish that this had a CD rom drive, that addition would make it almost perfect. The touch screen is a major selling point. I like that it acts as a tablet and a laptop. The screen is decent sized and the clarity is above average. Overall, I give this 4 stars for being above average. It's not perfect, but so little actually is. This is a good little machine.

Throw back to the dust buster
on November 19, 2018

This is a very sleek, compact, hand held vacuum. Very stylish and compact. Decent suction power, slightly on the louder side. The collection bin is very small, so if you have a spill of any notable size you will probably have to empty it in the middle of your clean up. The battery could last a little longer, in my opinion. but for a quick clean up of the random collection of dust bunnies or dirt it works well. Is great for small spaces like my camper!

The "Space Shuttle" of blenders
on November 19, 2018
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
This blender is a beastly machine. It is sleek and mean. It makes easy work of ice for smoothies and frozen drinks. The vacuum takes longer than I expected to create the "oxygen free" blending atmosphere, almost to the point of wondering what is taking so long, but it's worth it when you make the frozen drinks. I'm taking off 1 star from the rating for the noise. This blender is LOUD. I've definitely used blenders from other makers that are much quieter and just as powerful, but this system is still great. The food processor is sizeable, the dough attachment is very handy. The individual serving size cup is nice as well for when you only want a small amount (single size smoothies, sauces, dressings and such). Overall this is an impressive blending system.

Great Mesh System
on November 10, 2018
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
My house is 1600 sq. ft. on main level and then 1600 sq. ft. in walkout basement. We have had 4 different wireless routers over the years and for some reason, there has always been a weak zone where I would get signal, but dramatically lower speeds and occasional drops. After adding this system, that coverage hole utterly disappeared.
First impressions, the packaging had a great feel and protected the handsome nodes quite well. Initial setup was quite easy. Open my existing Linksys App, chose option to add new equipment and I was off an running. Setting up the main node took 3 or 4 minutes and then each of the remote nodes another 4 minutes or so each. I really like the remote nodes design in that they simply plug into a wall, no fuss. I also like that each unit has a discreet LED showing status with a simple glance.
OK, everything is in place and I now turned my wireless off at the router so the wireless is all Velop. The first test, the infamous "dead-zone" and ran a speed test. It hit 120 Mbps consistently. Excellent. Ran several spped tests from all over the house and even outside and was easily hitting 90 Mbps all over the property where I would ever use WiFi,
In all, this is a great unit for anyone who might need for a larger home or in y case, a trouble spot. After 2 days of use, my wife, son, daughter and I have had no complaints and absolutely no coverage or capacity issues. Plenty of speed and coverage to go around.
A really solid product if you have the need. I would eagerly recommend to a friend.
