Nice Video Security System, Great Video Quality
on June 13, 2020
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
I'm going to open with saying I really like this video system. I currently have a Samsung 1080p video system with 1 TB HD and 8 cameras. While I really like that system, I can say that I honestly prefer the Lorex. The Samsung is good but the Lorex has some clear advantages. Let's look at the reasons why.
OK, there are the obvious reasons: 2 TB compared to 1 TB, 4K compared to 1080i, 2020 tech compared to 2018 tech. But while these all play a role, I think the main reason is the interface. I'll talk more about that later, but first...
What's in the box? 4 cameras (with basic mounting hardware), 4 40' cables, main control unit, power chord for control unit, power for 4 cameras, wired rudimentary mouse and an HDMI cable.
Assume that cables are already ran or if not, depending on your installation environment, it could take a couple hours to a couple days. But once cables and cameras are installed, set up is completed in 8 or so minutes. Usual suspects regarding questions, network setup was also simple. Scan a QR code after downloading the app and you're up and running.
The picture quality was pretty impressive, but to be fair, my existing 1080 system is on an HD 24" Dell monitor, and I used the 55" Hisense H8F in my garage for this system, so not at all an apples to apples visual comparison. That said, there is no getting around the overall video quality in day lighting. And at night, this one really out-shines my other system. We did do some night testing and in a dark, semi-rural cul-de-sac walking about 40' from the camera, you could easily make a police ID, no problem.
As mentioned earlier, the system interface is outstanding, easy to use and intuitive. You can use the mouse wheel to easily zoom in and out. A simple click and you can get to main view showing all 8 channels or just as easily get to the main menu. I am going to be using this as my main system for that reason alone.
I did not test any motion detection or activation so I will not comment further than to say that based on the rest of the system, I have no doubt it would work as well as most any others.
If you have read this far, you may be asking why I gave it a 4-star instead if a 5. A couple reasons. First, I don't give out too many 5-star ratings. Something needs to be almost impeccably flawless for 5 stars. Secondly (and primarily), the video cable connections on the rear panel are painfully close together. This makes it unnecessarily difficult to connect each additional camera after the first one is connected. It also is not labeled particularly well. Even for my 18-year-old son's eagle eyes and nimble skinny fingers, seeing the camera numbers and connecting the rear cameras was not as easy as it could have been had those 2 items been even minorly improved.
However, at the end of the day, I would eagerly recommend this to a friend, but would note the minor areas for improvement. Good system, good price. Well done, Lorex.

Pretty Cool Bottle/Cap
on May 27, 2020
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
First off, let me say that this is a pretty cool device. Its packaging was attractive and secure yet still simple to open. Anyone who has ever had a Christmas morning trying to un-package some kids' toys knows exactly what a frustrating challenge that can be sometimes. Not here. A couple simple slices to the plastic tabs and the top popped right off.
Inside you'll find the bottle, purifying cap, charger, instructions, extra gaskets and a cloth carry bag.
The bottle itself is very "pretty" according to my wife and daughter. I have no complaints but I am not nearly as aesthetically keyed in as those two are.
Operation was simple. Pop the charger on the cap and it charged in 20 minutes or so. It did come with some charge already in the cap. Tap the top twice and it does the normal cycle for about a minute, tap it 5 times and it does its deep cycle for about 2.5 minutes. Easy money.
As for efficacy... I really don't know. We live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains so our water is about as good as it gets right out of the tap. I am curious to see how it will fair this summer when we're relying on local water from various RV campgrounds around the country. My wife is a medical professional and they use the same technology in her day to day medical care of patients so I have no reason to believe that it does not work as advertised.
The one area for improvement is pretty simple and admittedly one could accuse me of nitpicking, but I do wish the cloth pouch had a couple exterior pockets to hold the charger and spare gaskets. Not a deal breaker, just a nice to have.
In all, pretty slick unit and I would recommend it to a friend.

Molekule Air features 360-degree air intake that replaces the air in a 600-square-foot room. The device uses two filters. The Pre-Filter captures larger particles like dust and pet hair. The PECO-Filter, coated with a proprietary light-activated catalyst, breaks down VOCs, bacteria, mold, viruses, allergens, and other pollutants at a molecular level. Molekule Air then releases clean air evenly across the entire room.

Great Air Purifier - And Timely
on May 10, 2020
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
Let me start by saying that this is one of the most difficult items I've ever reviewed. I mean with a soundbar or headphones or Bluetooth speaker, you can easily judge the bass or mid's or highs against other devices and easily compare features. A T.V. review, same. But an air purifier? I don't know about you, but I personally don't have a way to measure air particulates, pollen and other airborne allergens. That said, this review will be purely subjective based on my wife and I comparing notes after a weeks worth of use.
The device was well packaged and very easy to set up. My 18 year old son had it unpacked and set up in just 3 or 4 minutes. Easy money.
It is an attractive unit that should easily blend into most decors, finding a proud yet unpretentious perch most anywhere. It has a small foot print (8.25") circumference. It stands just under 2' tall and weighs a very easily portable 18 pounds. It has very attractive finish and includes a soft and wide leather handle for easy wielding and attractive aesthetics.
The control module is a round, color touch-screen that is simple, elegant and intuitive. It offers power on/off, fan speed, lighting and filter monitoring. Very classy and understated.
A couple things that we both appreciated, is the "Silent" mode. It is exactly that: dead silent yet it still moves ample air. There is also an "Auto" mode and a "Boost" mode. They are exactly as advertised.
The other item that we appreciated was the soft, ambient up-lighting (pictured). Important note, the unit uses the lighting to help control and eliminate pollutants. I don't know the technical reasons how that works, but I trust it is true based on performance. We leave it on all the time. We have this in our bedroom and it offers a nice, unobtrusive nightlight. Impressive.
They also offer an app that connects first via Bluetooth, and then via WiFi. Set-up took some doing. It was not quite tedious, but it did take a few tries and some basic self trouble-shooting but this is somewhat common with BT/WiFi connections. The app offers control and monitoring of the unit. It's cool, but it's neither a deal maker nor breaker.
OK, now lets try to move to efficacy. As previously mentioned, I don't have any measurable way to monitor airborne particulates so this is just based on our overall perceptions. We were given the opportunity review this fine Molekule Air product in early spring, right at the height of pollen season. We live immediately at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Northern Colorado so literally every single day we are under a National Weather Service "Pollen Alert". Additionally, my Firefighter/Paramedic wife is undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. As such, she is Immunol-compromised and acutely at risk to pollen and other allergens.
After a week with this unit, we both firmly believe that it has had a positive impact on the air quality. I wish I could say more, or why or some other measurable or quantifiable reason why, but I can't. She is sleeping better, less allergic reactions and the air just feels "cleaner". If I ever know anyone in the future with my wife's situation, I would encourage them to get this unit.
In all, we have found this to be a fantastic product and we would absolutely recommend to a friend. Impressive.

Some Of The Best
on May 9, 2020

These are nice true wireless earbuds. With some minor opportunities for improvement, but some big areas of GREAT.
First Impression:
Very nice packaging, as should be expected. Opening box revealed a well packed presentation that included the buds, the charging/carrying case, a thick and premium feeling USB-C charging cable, several earbud foam and silicone inner ear options and the ubiquitous quick start guide.
After opening, everything had a premium look and feel. The classic B&O logo is elegantly prominent yet somehow understated. My 15 year old daughter even recognized the quality look and feel and asked if anyone ever "flexed" their earbuds on her, if she could shut them down by borrowing these B&O buds. Apparently the B&O legend is not only timeless, but also multi-generational. For the record, when I asked her to try them out so I could get a picture for this review, she subtly tried to abscond with them. Nice try!
Charging was expectedly easy, pairing was the same. Finding the right earpiece fit took a while but the fact that they included so many options is a plus in my overall experience.
OK, ready to test now...
Sound Quality:
Sound quality was somewhere between almost excellent and excellent. Highs were forever effervescent, even and realistic without ever being harsh or shrill. Mid's were clear, crisp, well defined and realistic. The bass? Here is where these are either brilliant or somewhat lacking, depending on your ear. Some people like a thumping bass, while others prefer punchy, yet measured bass. These are the latter and not the former. I find the bass to be pleasing while never overwhelming. To my ear, that is excellent. To others, these may be somewhat thin. As a former professional musician with countless studio, recording and live stage hours, I find these B&O buds to be excellent in overall sound delivery.
Ease of Use:
With earbuds and on-board controls, my experience is that manufacturers sometimes try to do far too much with a little too little. B&O nailed their touch control on these. While it's not quite intuitive, its easy to learn. The volume control is easy money and awesome. The BEST I've ever experienced. As far as other controls, they are good, accurate and relatively easy, but they do require some practice. But that that is well worth the investment in time for the pay-off of ease of use. Well don B&O.
The case is also the charger. The case feels high quality and seeds the buds magnetically and positively. They are advertised at 35 hours of charge time, but that is total charge time that includes the charge in the case. While I have no reason to doubt that, I did not test. I can say charging seems to complete quickly.
The "Really Cool":
Ambient noise mode is awesome. One touch and you go from isolated passive noise cancellation to the wide open world. I never knew this was something I needed until I had it. One quick tap to the left bud and "BAM!", welcome to the real world around you. Very cool.
The "So-So":
The app sound control is decent but not great. There is no classic EQ and that is a bit of a bummer. It does offer an option that allows you to somewhat tune the sound but it's kind of hard to get exactly what you want. I would have LOVED a classic EQ, but this is not a deal breaker, just takes a bit of fiddling around with.
The "Neither Here-Nor-There":
Active noise cancellation. Too be honest, we are on lock down due to CVD-19 so I am not able to test as I usually would at the gym, on an airplane, at the library etcetera, but in all honesty, I don't miss it. The passive cancellation seems to do a fine job for me so far. If I wanted active cancellation, I'd use my over-ear Sony set. They have served me well on countless coast-to-coast and International flights. For my purposes, active noise cancellation in these little buds is not necessary.
The "Wow, That's Incredible!"
I tested these bad boys on multiple 20+ minute phone calls with several friends. At the end of the call, I let them know I was using these B&O buds on the entire call and everyone was amazed I was on a Blu-tooth device. They all assumed I was on my phone microphone. That is amazing. Each and every person was surprised. B&O uses 2 microphones per bud for a truly encompassing vocal field. To that end, very well done, B&O
End of day, I would enthusiastically recommend these to a friend, but I would note the items I mentioned.

Cool... Like Old School Cool!
on April 16, 2020

OK man, this thing is truly a blast from the past. I'm talking 1987, mulletts for the dudes and tall hairspray for the ladies. I'm talking cassette tapes, indoor malls, free Red Barn Farms (real name changed to protect the innocent) samples and then the Orange J drink place and the giant pretzel, bandannas and ripped jeans... And you remember the old smoking area's? Yeah, it's that cool!
OK, trip down memory lane done, lets talk about the unit. It's a lightweight AM/FM radio. I know, not very romantic, but totally 80's, so that IS romantic!
Very easy to use, multiple pre-sets, built in digital (yeah baby, you heard me, DIGITAL!) clock. You can use the included arm/wrist band or remove that and use standard belt clip. Oh, the technology!
It comes with batteries and serviceable headphones. Headphones are comfy and have the built in little ear-hook thingy that keeps them in firm place even under a decently brisk jog or gym workout.
The sound quality is decent. I mean its a portable AM/FM stereo radio, so it is what it is. An audiophile would probably find the sound disappointing, but this is not intended for that guy or gal.
I really like it for it's simplicity, function and blast from the past pure simple awesomeness.
In all, I would recommend it to a friend!

Nope. Not for us.

Let me open by saying my wife is... let's say "VERY SPECIFIC" in how she prefers we do our taxes... She has this habit every single year of using multiple platforms and checking multiple ways to file (married filing jointly / married filing separately etcetera). She even runs scenarios if we were to not be married (is she telling me something?). Kidding! But in any case she makes sure we get every advantage legally available for us, and that's great.
All of that said, when I asked her to use H&R Block, she said "OK, I will but we both know it will have us paying more than most others will". She was right.
I understand that every tax filing is wildly different for every person and family so your experience my be different from ours. I understand our tax situation is more complex than some but certainly much less complicated than others. H&R Block is the only platform that does not differentiate other miscellaneous income from being self employed whereas other platforms do.
As for ease of use, it's not bad, but it is somewhat more "cumbersome" than some others. Again, not bad, but not great.
End of the day, I would not recommend this to a friend. I would qualify with my experience that it did not meet our needs but it MIGHT meet yours.

Great Keyboard
on February 5, 2020
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
I'm going to start by first admitting that I have had the opportunity over the years to use multiple Logitech products and I have never been dissapointed. This keyboard is no different.
This is a quality keyboard. The packaging is attractive and effective. In the box you have the keyboard, the usual quick start guide, USB adapter and batteries. A note on the batteries: they are listed to last 2 years and while I can't vouch, I have no reason to doubt the claim based on my previous experience with Logitech equipment.
The keyboard comes with a USB option and a Bluetooth option. I connected to my AIO desktop via Bluetooth and it took just seconds. It can be connected to up to 3 devices via BT and easily switched by selecting one of three key options to toggle back and forth between the devices. If you don't have a BT option, you can use the USB option. In the battery compartment, there is a convenient slot to hold the USB adapter.
As for the keyboard itself, the wrist pad is an great inclusion, but note, it is relatively large and does take up more real estate on your desk than most others. If you have the room, this is well worth the trade. The keys are sooth and quiet. It also has the option to program the F keys. I tested it (even though I probably won't use it) and it was easy to do and I could see how it could be a nice feature for some users.
As several other reviewers have mentioned, if you are not used to using the split keyboard then there is a learning curve. This is NOT a knock or negative on the keyboard, just a clinical fact. That said, after a little practice it's a really nice KB all around.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it did not include a back-light option. I guess they purposefully excluded that for the sake of battery life, but as a night-owl, I do some of my best work well after dark and would have appreciated that at least as an option. Oh well, not a deal breaker.
In all, a great keyboard from a consistently good company. I would eagerly recommend to a friend.

Well done Logitech.

Nice Unit For Specific Needs
on January 10, 2020
Posted by: Posted1
from Niwot CO
First thoughts: This thing is SMALL. I mean, I knew the dimensions before I received it, but once you hold it in your hand and see it, man it is portable! That is a good thing since my vision was to have an outdoor projector for the RV. This thing is perfect given it's portability.
The unit feels well constructed and is simple to run. While I have not been able to "field test" it yet since the RV is in winter storage, I did try it out on our basement home theater screen. I was not disappointed.
Operation was simple, picture was really pretty good for a unit that small and for my purposes, out in the woods onto a portable screen outside the RV in the dead of dark, it should be fantastic. The sound was adequate but for a unit this size, I was not expecting to be "blown away" by the sound but it certainly will deliver for how I plan on using it.
In all, I would certainly recommend to friend, especially if portability is a premium.
Good unit!

My wife and her crew have used various TRX systems at their fire-station for years. As soon as I had the opportunity to get this, she told me I could not go wrong...
Well, she was right, I guess. I mean it's great gear and routines but I aint gonna' lie... It kicked my behind! And then to rub salt, my fire-fighter wife works out with me and does the exact same thing and makes it look like a breeze!
End of the day, I definitely recommend to a friend and can honestly say it is fire-fighter tried and approved!
