Cool fresh air
on March 27, 2019

I spend a lot of time in my home office, and I have two dogs and lots of old dusty paper that I'm archiving. This fan is just what I needed for a bit of relief. It does have a fairly large footprint for a personal fan, but it is really quiet and the air flow can be aimed really precisely. It's even really quiet when oscillating. What's really awesome is that it provides a noticeable relief for the dust and allergens in the air, just making a pleasant oasis at my desk.
I'd really recommend this if you have special air needs at your desk, especially if you tend to feel warmer than the other people around you, it does cool me off nicely.

Professional equipment, home convenience

First off -- this product is for the long game. You won't see any results for quite a while, so I'll comment on this review over time to keep you updated. The instructions are very thorough, so take the time to read them! You'll learn usage, safety, and the science behind how it works.
My wife has been enthusiastic about hair removal for years and has tried just about everything. This is a laser hair removal device for home use. That means you can have the treatment without having to go to a specialist, so it is much easier and much more reasonable to stay on schedule to experience results.
The machine is very well designed and constructed, and the instructions are very good, but it does require some amount of practice to get used to timing, placement, etc. Also -- for best results you really need a buddy to help you. My wife did my back, and I did her legs, and it's just way easier to have someone use the device on you rather than trying to contort yourself to reach awkward places.
For me, the sensation reminds me of pressing a camera flash against your skin. It is a brief burst of heat that stings a tiny bit, but then it goes away immediately. My wife says she only feels momentary warmth. Also there's a slight smell of burning hair.
That's my experience so far -- I recommend this as far as the instructions, convenience, quality, and usability are concerned. I'll try to provide more feedback as we see the results over time!

Great performance out of the box
on December 19, 2018

I'm a fairly casual gamer and a tech enthusiast and I was absolutely delighted to get this setup. I've been in the build and upgrade cycle for the past 20 years -- starting from Diablo, the system requirements of the games have pushed my builds and upgrades. Historically I'd build a system on the best motherboard I could afford at the time and upgrade components as long as the architecture could support it. This is the first time I got a purpose-built OEM desktop computer for gaming.
I got the performance I was hoping for with this configuration -- I can play all my favorite games at the highest quality settings. The case has plenty of airflow and it didn't produce any fan noise, even after hours of fantasy RPGs and SciFi shooters.
You can see from the pictures that it has a fantastic look to it; the front logo and the interior case lights care customizable for colors. The glass side gives an awesome view of what's going on inside, and the cable management is really good. There's plenty of room for a full-size video card; the 1060 it came with fits in quite nicely. The case is easy to open and there's lots of room to work in there -- but -- I was pretty stunned at how limited it is for upgrading. There's one pcie slot for the video card, but no other expansion slots at all. There's one open SATA port and power wiring to add one drive, but there's no opening in the case for an optical drive. There's an open memory slot, but I'm not sure if I'd really find any benefit from more RAM. There is a header to plug in a liquid cooling system. That's about all I could find for expansion options.
I was bummed to find it only had 1/8" plugs for audio, so you only get stereo analog sound output. Digital or optical sound outputs would be really nice. I just can't imagine a practical configuration for computer speakers to take advantage of the digital sound output from the HDMI jack, so you don't get any surround sound or subwoofer output.
I was super disappointed by the slim line chicklet keyboard that comes with it. It's just entirely unsuited for gaming. I'm sure that gamers would already have a keyboard or would be willing to shop for their own, but it would have been nice if the keyboard had taller keys with more travel.
The initial setup was really clean. No significant bloatware, and the HP software is well-contained and very useful. You get to all of the HP utilities from one app.
I've been happily using it for a few weeks now, and the performance has been solid. With the quality of this rig, there's just no reason for me to want to build my own machine.

It's like a sound stage on your head

These headphones are unexpectedly wonderful. I paired them with my phone easily and right away they were blasting full power music! My old phone wouldn't start headphones at full amplitude, so just be aware that if your phone is cranked up to maximum, these will be loud! So I dialed them down a bit -- the controls on the left ear are easy to use -- and I discovered something. These don't have to be loud to hear the full depth and dynamic range of the music. It's not exaggerated with a heavy bass, it's just right and sounds really nice. Vocals really really pop -- it's so much easier to understand lyrics with these.
The headphones are really comfortable. I'm looking forward to using them on my next plane trip. By the way -- they do come with a detachable cord, in case you refer not to use Bluetooth when in airplane mode.
The instructions included in the box are pretty sparse. It was easy to pair with my first phone because it was ready to go when I turned it on, but I'll have to dig into the user manual to figure out how to get it back into pairing mode for additional devices. Also, the quick start guide didn't include anything about the cord. The cord has some controls, I'm just not sure how to use them.
... okay, I just downloaded the user manual from their site, and it goes into way more detail on how to use the headset and cord. It looks like it can only be paired with one device at a time, but there's instructions on how to force it back into pairing mode.
Overall, the strength here is the sound quality and clarity. It's really impressive. I found details in songs that I hadn't previously noticed, and like I said, lyrics are so much clearer.

Wow. Just wow. This system is gorgeous.

It comes in a box that looks like a box of chocolates or some kind of fancy treat, and when I pulled it out, I was really impressed with the look and construction quality of this laptop. It is a bit hefty, but that also means that it won't slide around on the table while typing.
I have large hands and the keyboard is quite functional. It's a little getting used to the number pad being right adjacent to the main keyboard, but the F and J keys do have touch markers on them so I can reorient fairly easily. I like how the touchpad is centered under the main keyboard rather than centered to the whole machine; it's right where you need it when typing.
The screen is lovely; it's great for watching shows and movies. The internal speakers are pretty impressive, and the fact that the hinges hold it in different positions makes it really comfortable; tablet mode when I'm lounging and it's sitting on my lap, keyboard flipped 300 degrees backwards so it can stand up on the coffee table. I'd really prefer a matte finish to the screen. It is so very reflective that I actually have to wear a dark shirt when watching video otherwise my own reflection is really distracting, especially for dark and scary movies. I'm going to shop around for a matte screen protector.
It's really handy to have the stylus with it, and it works really well for me for drawing and for using the hand-writing text entry. I wish there were a place to store it onboard. Magnets do keep it handy at the top corners of the laptop while in us, but there's no way it can keep that stylus secured while the laptop is in a bag.
I'm really happy with its gaming performance. I'm not hardcore, but this plays my games really well and the screen is big enough to see what's going on.
This is easily a replacement for a desktop machine, with great battery life. I was able to use it about 10 hours for general computing, browsing, streaming shows, etc, with plenty of battery life left. I also used it for gaming for 4 hours and again it had plenty of battery left. I haven't run it to empty yet.
I'm really happy with this machine -- this is gonna be my primary machine for years to come.

Lots of great features

Over the years I've accumulated lots and lots of pictures, so I really need a way to organize them and form them into stories that I can share with friends and family. The Photoshop Elements Organizer is a very powerful tool for organizing pictures. I have about 80,000 pictures and many of them are multiple shots taken of the same thing, or duplicate pictures, and lots of them are scans from photographs, negatives, and slides. The organizer has powerful face recognition which helps me sort things into events based on who was there.
The editor is awesome. It has three modes -- the quick mode gives you the most basic tools such as cropping, resizing, and color correction, so it's a convenient way to get pictures ready to share. The guided mode gives you access to amazing image manipulation. Don't be intimidated by the "expert" mode. That's just where they have all the normal photoshop tools available for you to manually modify your picture or create new ones.
A couple of downsides -- I had the 2018 version so I was a bit accustomed to how it works, but there was no upgrade installation. It doesn't replace the old version, it installs itself right next to it so I have two versions of the software on my computer. It does however give you an option to import your existing catalogs. I noticed that the performance of 2019 is a bit slower than 2018 is, but it might be because of my massive picture collection. Also, I needed to run the setup as administrator for the software to be able to create and write to the folders it needed.
So a little wonky, but with how much power you get with this software, you can't beat it for the price.

Home automation is fun

These bulbs are a real nice addition to my home; I have wall sconces in my basement so these make perfect party lights.
The installation was pretty straight-forward. I was a little annoyed that I had to create yet another login, but it seems like that's normal. I have several other devices that have a network bridge, so I'm used to it. One nice feature of this network bridge is that it has wifi capability, so once I set it up, I can unplug the ethernet and tuck it away somewhere. It has a USB adapter cord so I was able to power it with another device that happened to have a USB port free. That made it super convenient.
The setup was also pretty normal. Like my other smart devices, the setup had the 3 bulbs listed but no easy way to tell which is which. It would be super cool if there were a "toggle power" button on the setup app. I didn't have my reading glasses handy, so I went through trial and error to identify the bulbs rather than trying to read their serial numbers.
It was also pretty easy to add them to Google Home. It did remember the names I gave the bulbs, but I had to re-ad them to locations. No biggie but still can be improved.
The fun part is controlling them. I can shout at Google Home to tell them which colors to shine, and it is a lot of fun to experiment with the lighting. They can be controlled separately or in groups.
I'm happy with these, they were reasonably easy to install and setup and they do what they're supposed to do.

Awesome features, one fatal flaw
on November 5, 2018

This vacuum has some amazing features -- it's cordless and has every bit of power as a plug-in machine. It's light weight and very well designed for maneuverability, and the battery lasts long enough to get most of your vacuuming done. It has all sorts of configuration options so you can use it as a canister, a stick, or a normal vacuum to take care of any job you'd have.
It has bright headlights, great to see what's in your path. The biggest surprise for me was just how quiet it is. Somehow it has phenomenal vacuum power without sounding like a jet taking off. It also has a turbo button for when you do want it to sound like a jet.
One thing I really like about it is they put a lot of thought around the long-term use of this; all the key parts are removable so you can untangle and unclog the rollers and wash the filters.
With all those outstanding features, there's a huge problem with its overall usability. Maybe I'm spoiled, but for this price and compared with all the other vacuums out there I would expect this vacuum to have some kind of tool storage.
There's no place on the vacuum to keep tools handy and no wall or floor rack for storing the tools. As I was unpacking it, I was digging in the box for any way to keep the tools. I have an older Shark vacuum that came with onboard tools storage clips and even a wall hanging rack. But there wasn't anything and I almost cried. Well, not really, but now I'm stuck with these crevice tools and no real good way to store them or keep them handy while I'm vacuuming.
It looks like they make a base for it, so I'll probably get it, but it seems kinda lame to have to order a $60 part that should probably have come with it.
It's a keeper, I really like this one and it easily replaces any corded vacuum, I'm just a bit disappointed by the inconvenience of having no way to store tools.

Office quality at a reasonable price
on November 2, 2018
Posted by: Snarltoof
from Richfield, MN
I wasn't expecting much from such an inexpensive printer, but I was really impressed when I pulled it out of the box. The construction and materials are solid, and it looks like a professional piece of office equipment.
It was really easy to set up. When you first turn it on, it wants to join your wifi network. It will only see the 2.4ghz band though, which seems common for network things that aren't computers phones or tablets. I plugged it into my ethernet network because it's taking over for an existing printer.
This prints. That's all it does. It isn't a multifunction device, it doesn't scan and can't send/receive faxes. I have an awesome scanner so I didn't have to get a compromise device.
The print quality is phenomenal for text and casual colored things, but it isn't suitable as a photo printer. There's no 4x6 paper setting and the colors just aren't as sharp and vivid as the best inkjets.
It prints pretty quickly and it does duplex printing. Unlike inkjets, your paper doesn't get wet so there's no issue with flipping the page before it's dry.
I'm experimenting with the settings; it defaults to fine quality, 2400 dpi. I'm changing the default to normal, 600x600, to see if that prints more quickly.
So far so good though. If you want a workhorse printer for home or small office, this is great!

High end appliance great features

I'm super happy with this oven. It is a gorgeous piece of equipment and it has a nice compact footprint. The materials and construction are really high quality.
It's about the size of a normal toaster oven. The controls are minimalistic but easy to use; you just dial up what you want it to do: toast, bake, reheat, etc, and there's another knob to adjust the time and temperature. It's very clever how the adjustment knob has a "set" button in the middle of it that easily toggles between which settings you want to adjust.
It does a great job of toasting bread. The done-ness settings seem to be right on. It also does a fantastic job cooking frozen pizza. It's super convenient and the pizza comes out perfect -- the toppings are hot and the crust is crispy.
One of my favorite features is "reheat." Some foods get soggy or chewy or otherwise awful when reheated in a microwave -- this solves that nicely. My leftover tacos heated up really nicely!
Overall, this is a very high-quality appliance with some great features.

They got it right!
By Snarltoof from Minneapolis, MN
I've been using tablets for years, including my first Galaxy Tab 7" tablet, a variety of Acer and Asus tablets, a Surface, and Surface Book. I've also been a fan of the Samsung Galaxy phones, having a 3, 4, and a 5.
When I first got this S3 tablet, I was expecting to get decent tablet performance. What I got was a powerhouse in an elegant, extremely light weight package. The size is great -- it's way more portable than my Surface devices, and the type cover gives it a good amount of protection.
Great job on the type cover, guys! The magnet attachment and the tilted viewing angle are great. It would be awesome if the type cover had a hole for the rear camera. A couple of other minor keyboard quirks; the tablet only accepts the keyboard if the tablet is unlocked when you attach it. I was also hoping for an android button on the type cover but couldn't find it at first. I read the instructions (under settings/physical keyboard/keyboard shortcuts) and it shows a "super" button that supports all the commands I'd want to use for an Android keyboard. After hunting around, I figured out that the "search" button on the keyboard, with the magnifying glass icon, is this "super" button. Now my hands don't need to leave the keyboard. The keys are a fairly natural size, not too cramped for my very large hands, They didn't bother making a touchpad on the keyboard like you see on some other compact keyboards. Good move!
I'm going to experiment with USB C video adapters to see how it performs as a "desktop" replacement, but I'm really optimistic given how it performs normally. I have a USB C to USB 3 adapter, and it picks up my keyboard and mouse just fine, even through a KVM.
I've been using a Google Pixel phone for a while, so I lost practice with how Samsung does stuff, so it's a bit different to navigate. Not too bad, and this thing does way more and has way more features than I've explored so far.
It connected to my Wi-Fi network easily, has great web page load times, installs apps quickly, and Zen Pinball is super responsive on this.
It feels really light, so it is very easy to hold. It does great as a Kindle reader, although the screen is a bit shiny. They keyboard/case pops off easily but holds securely when it's attached either as a case or as a keyboard.
I was really excited to try it out, so I used it for two days before charging it. I let it run down to 15%, and it was still happily playing pinball. It supports quick charging, so it was back up to 40% in about 15 minutes.
It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's an awesome tablet.

I've been using this tablet for a month now. Still five stars. The performance is fantastic, the battery capacity is awesome, the tablet is lightweight and easy to handle, and the keyboard case pops on and off really conveniently. It is awesome that it comes with the pen.
If Samsung is out there reading this -- you gotta come up with a dock or keyboard/mouse/video/Ethernet adapter for it! This thing is a powerhouse, and if I could use it with a fullsize keyboard and monitor it would be a viable laptop replacement. I've been scouring the internet and I can't find anything that displays video while providing power to the tablet.

Do you experience dropped calls, slow internet speeds, or the inability to send and receive texts while you’re on the road or enjoying some time off the beaten path? With the weBoost Drive Reach RV, you can improve your cell signal, wherever your adventures take you. Designed to enhance signal coverage for RVs, campers and trailers, especially in remote areas. The weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster uses the latest technology to pick up an existing cell signal, route it the booster, then broadcast that amplified signal into your RV. To install the Drive Reach RV, first select where to mount the outside antenna using the provided ladder bracket. This is the most important step as it impacts the overall performance of the booster. Check that the antenna is at least 12 inches from all other antennas and openings to avoid interference. Use the modular mast extensions to ensure the antenna is above any obstructions. Once the outside antenna is installed, run the coax cable behind the weather stripping of an opening, like a door, window, or pop out slide, into your RV. Next, place the inside antenna on a table or countertop near where you plan to use your devices the most. Then run the coax cables to the booster. Plugin both the outside and inside cables. Now, plug in the power cord to the booster. Finally, plug the power cord into your vehicle’s power supply and turn on the booster. When the green light is on, it’s working. All coax cable needed for installation is provided. Stay connected, wherever you choose to explore, with the weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster!

The power requirements says “plug in”. Plug into what? Does this plug into 120v AC which would require shore power or an inverter or does it plug into 12v DC in an RV? If I t’s 12V what kind of plug?

It comes with an AC power adapter, so you need shore power, inverter, or generator. I bought the 12V adapter for it, which plugs into a lighter socket.

What is the maximum output through the USB cable. Example if I use a hub can I get 1gb Ethernet and two 4k screens @ 60hz plus a keyboard, mouse, and USB 3.0 at regular speeds? Also is there going to be a Samsung DeX or Chromebook OS from MS?

Ethernet, keyboard, and mouse work through the USB C cable, but video does not, so you won't get anything on your monitors.

Is data transferred or synched from my PC to the Duo via the YourPhone app on my PC? If not, how?

It's compatible with cloud syncing on Google Drive, gmail, hotmail, and OneDrive, so you get your data, pics, contacts, calendars, etc. It's also compatible with the YourPhone app so you can resume your browsing session and use text messaging on your PC.

Does the phone give you the option to turn off a display when not in use to conserve battery?

When you have it open like a book, both displays are on. When you have it folded shut, both displays are off. When you have it folded in the open position with both screens on the outside, only one screen stays on. You double-tap to switch screens, but it also seems to respond to how I rotate my wrist. There's only one camera so you have to rotate it between selfie and normal modes.

Do I need a smart phone to be able to use Norton Core?

I'm pretty sure you do; you need the app to set it up and control it. I'm not sure if there's a web interface, but I don't think there is.
