Fantastic Factory presents another spooky Spanish horror tale with The Nun, a pseudo-slasher ghost story that finds an evil water-nymph nun seeking vengeance against her murderers from years before. Before her disappearance, Sister Úrsula was highly feared in her boarding school. Often tormenting her students with her own brand of extreme religious zealotry, this nightmarish nun was deathly strict with her code of ethics. When one of her 15-year-old pupils is found to be pregnant, the nun forces her into a dangerous spiritual cleansing that ends in tragedy when the girl's five classmates break up the torture session and inadvertently kill Úrsula in the process. Upon the reopening of the school almost 20 years later, two of the group's survivors end up dead, which forces the rest of the old friends to face their own demons over what happened that fateful night. With the help of the now-teenaged daughter of the original student, the group confronts the very thing that haunts their dreams and forever links them together in hushed silence.

Decent movie.

My wife and I just watched this movie, and we thought it was ok. It had great special effects and cinematography for a rather low budget movie. No prominent actors, in fact, the acting wasn't very good. But, the plot was rather intriguing and had some good thrills and chills, and it kept your interest. However, the ending was just terrible! It's one of those where they tried to give the film a good twist at the end, but they screwed it up BAD! If you like horror movies, I'd still recommend it because there's some pretty good scenes worth watching.
What's great about it: Pretty good special effects, had potential.
What's not so great: Bad acting and a terrible ending.
I would recommend this to a friend!

John Carpenter's underrated horror gem Prince of Darkness comes to DVD once again from the folks at Universal, though sadly, it isn't quite the edition fans have been waiting for here in the States. This release boasts the same audio and visual technical specs as the previous disc -- with the 2.35:1 widescreen image perfectly showing off Carpenter's stylistic eye and lone Dolby surround track, which begs to be remastered in this 5.1 day and age. A new inclusion on this disc is the stunning original theatrical trailer, which perfectly fits the film's frightening tone and nightmarish images, though one has to wonder where the commentary track, which graced the Region 2 disc, has gone? Recorded with Carpenter and longtime collaborator Peter Jason, the track is a gold mine for any fan of the director's and one that Region 1 audiences shouldn't have to order through various U.K. distributors just to hear.

This is among my personal favorites from John Carpenter. My wife and I love it! This is a must own for any true horror movie collector. This is a one of a kind classic! Alice Cooper even has a cameo in it. I highly recommend it! Also, some more of my personal John Carpenter favorites are The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, and Cigarette Burns.

Although given a lukewarm reception by critics and the public upon its release, The Thing, like so many of John Carpenter's films, has since acquired a fiercely loyal cult following, and MCA Home Video will have fans of the chilly sci-fi horror in rapture with this outstanding reissue DVD. Originally released in 1998, this Collector's Edition is an exact replica of the previous disc, except for the chilly slipcase packaging. Picture-wise, the film's immaculate whites and cold blues are clean and sharp, and the polar landscapes are awe-inspiring in widescreen. Carpenter is renowned for his inventive use of sound effects and music, and the Dolby 5.1 Audio truly heightens the film's suspense. There is also a mind-boggling array of extra features on the DVD. The theatrical trailer, production notes, and biographies of Carpenter and star Kurt Russell are welcome, but they pale in comparison to most of the other additions. The production archives section, for example, is an extensive combination of text and photos that concentrates on Rob Bottin's eye-popping special effects, and equally interesting is the production art showing early designs of the alien creature. The background archive will interest would-be screenwriters, as it uses pages from the original draft to show how the film took shape. Of the countless other bits and pieces, the outtakes section is surest to please confirmed fans, even though the stills and deleted scenes here are of a mainly expository nature (though at least one deleted scene will delight fans of the movie's sardonic humor). Yet even if it had none of the aforementioned special features, this would be an essential DVD due to the commentary track and 80-minute documentary "Terror Takes Shape". The latter, featuring contributions from all the main players, is an utterly engrossing background to the conception and production of The Thing, and also includes spectacular stop-motion footage that was not used in the final version. The commentary by Carpenter and Russell, meanwhile, is a winning blend of astute analysis and warm recollection that is always enjoyable and occasionally hilarious. This is a wonderful DVD package that will give pleasure to even casual fans of the film.

This, in my opinion, is one of John Carpenter's best films to date! It scared me as a kid and still gets me at 30. My wife and I love this movie! If you haven't seen it, you're really missing out on a true quality horror movie. This is a must own for any DVD or horror collector. I highly recommend it! Also, some of my other personal John Carpenter favorites are In the Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness, and Cigarette Burns.

Not only do They Live, but they're already here and ready to enslave the human race in Universal's release of director John Carpenter's paranoid sci-fi actioner. Presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and offering audio rendered in closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Surround, this release also offers optional Spanish and French subtitles.

This is not one of John Carpenter's best by a long shot, but worth watching. I'm a huge movie collector and a fan of John Carpenter's. I have almost all of his movies. This one, believe it or not, I never got around to watching until recently. My wife and I thought it was ok. The plots original, but the acting and special effects were poor. After making The Thing in '82, I questioned why the special effects were so poor in an '88 film. I know he can do better, I would've thought this movie came out in the '60s or '70s. I found myself double checking the DVD case to see when it came out. And as much as I liked seeing Roddy Piper in a movie, he's not the best actor. I did, however, enjoy the epic fight scene I'd heard people talk about. If you don't know, there's a South Park episode where Timmy and Jimmy go at it. This fight scene was choreographed identically with the fight scene between Roddy Piper and Keith David. That was fun to watch, (you should check it out!) The movie itself was rather cheesy and more of a comedy than a horror, sort of like Big Trouble in Little China, also by John Carpenter, (which I thought was better). Like I said this isn't one his best films, but worth watching. I'll also recommend some of my personal J.C. favorites; The Thing, Cigarette Burns, Prince of Darkness, and In the Mouth of Madness. Enjoy!
What's great about it: John Carpenter and Roddy Piper.
What's not so great: Bad acting, bad special effects, and a rather slow movie.

Great independent film!

This was a geat movie, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was very intense with surprisingly great special effects for an independent film. It had a great plot with decent acting. However, the movie ended rather abuptly right when it was getting good, and left a few unanswered questions, (this is why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars). Unless it's one of those like The Happening, where you're left to make your own conclusion. Either way, it was still very entertaining and well worth the buy. I highly recommend it! Also, a few other great horrors that have gone unnoticed are Crowley, The Devil's Chair, and The Burrowers.
What's great about it: Very creepy and very intense, geat special effects.
What's not so great: Rather abrupt ending.

Terrible!

This movie is just terrible! The special effects are weak. They show a trained bear swatting, then a guy flying through the air?! Poor effort! In fact avoid all of the Maneater Series! My wife and I have seen three now and they're all just bad 'B' movies! Don't waste your money! If you want to see a decent bear movie, check out Grizzly Park. It's a good horror comedy. (Better than this!)
What's great about it: Nothing!
What's not so great: The movie!!!

Terrible!

This movie was really bad. The special effects were terrible! All they show is some underwater footage of sharks, and a guy splashing around in red water. This is one of those 'B' movies that lure you in with a few prominent actors, just to get you to buy it. In fact, don't waste any money on the Maneater Series! My wife and I have seen three and they're all just as bad!
What's great about it: A few good actors.
What's not so great: Everything else.

With Quentin Tarantino serving as executive producer, Curdled is the feature debut from director Reb Braddock and stars Angela Jones of Pulp Fiction. Brought to DVD for the first time by Miramax Home Entertainment, the dark comedy receives the royal treatment with this release. Featuring a widescreen transfer and a Dolby Digital Surround soundtrack, the disc also includes audio tracks dubbed in French and Spanish, with Spanish subtitles. The technical features are only the tip of the iceberg, however, as the disc is loaded with bonuses. First, Tarantino provides both an introduction and an outro to the film. There is also a feature-length commentary track by Braddockand the film's producer. Beyond that, there is a collection of scenes left on the cutting-room floor, rehearsal footage, television spots, the original theatrical trailer, a photo gallery, and the short films that inspired Curdled.

This is a great movie, my wife and I love it! We're huge Tarantino fans! If you're a fan of his or liked Pulp Fiction, then you'll like this movie. Inspired by the female taxi driver that's obsessed with death in Pulp Fiction, this film is about her. Also, starring Stephen Baldwin, this is a great dark comedy in the tradition of Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown. I highly recommend it!

This was a great doomsday prophecy film, that could really happen. Roland Emmerich is good at these types of films (Independence Day). My wife and I really enjoyed it! The acting was fantastic. The special effects are fantastic. All around, a great movie! I highly recommend it! Also, you should check out his new film coming out, 2012, based off of real doomsday prophecies. (Google 2012.)

Great horror movie!

This was a great movie, my wife and I loved it! It's very similar in plot to Hostel, both of which are loosely based off rumored true events, (many people don't know that.) I gave it 5 stars because this film was great in its own right. However, my wife and I didn't think it was as good as the Hostel films. So, if you've seen the Hostel movies and liked them, I think you'll enjoy this one as well. I highly recommend it! And, if you haven't seen the Hostel movies, you should!
What's great about it: Very intense!
