Multipoint & Hear-Through are solid improvements
on April 4, 2024
Posted by: banjo
Jabra - Elite 5
Coming from an earlier model of Jabre Elite, this v5 model solves some of the little issues that pop up from time to time on the earlier models.
Connectivity: these Elite5 buds have the Bluetooth Multipoint, which lets me connect to laptop for multimedia (video, music, Vmeetings) and also stay connected to android phone at the same time. Switching back and forth is fast and simple to switch from laptop to phone when needed, and then back after completing a call.
Battery and Charging: battery life continues to be several hours of solid use (full morning, full afternoon, full evening) and the buds are much improved about going from active Bluetooth to charging mode when putting the bud(s) in the case. Earlier models tended to “hang on” to the Bluetooth connection and sometimes would not reliably charge both buds.
Sound Quality: I am not an audiophile so most mid-range and higher buds sound pretty good to me. My main uses are for movies and tv on laptop, and podcasts, audiobooks, and relaxation music on phone. May I suggest you check other reviews for the finer details and experiences with audio quality.
ANC and Pass-Through: The noise cancelling is about “medium” on these buds – not as good as earphones (not surprising) and just as good as any other earbuds I have tried. Better than that on these buds is the “Hear-Through” where a click on the left bud will use the microphones to give a little boost to outside noise, and cut the audio feed at the same time. In other words you get an instant cut to the audio and a simultaneous ‘boost’ to outside noise. I actually prefer to use this setting instead of just turning the ANC off, which leaves the audio feed going – not as good to switch quickly from listening to laptop and talking to someone.
Jabra App: The usefulness of the app has improved from earlier models, as should be expected. There are lots of pre-sets and customization options for the sound, click-push, and other defaults. The ANC and Hear-Through also have settings that can be personalized.
Overall these are a good set of wireless buds with adequate ANC and the Multipoint makes these excellent for use when you have two devices going at the same time – such as working on laptop and cell.phone.

Plenty of punch to handle most applications...

This Spin 714 replaces a 3 year old “mid range” Chromebook and the difference is remarkable! It’s always interesting to see this type of improvement with personal technology, and Chromebooks seem to have gone from sputtering a little a few years ago to providing some strong performances in the current market.
Acer offers a lot of choices in their Chromebook line, and the 714 might be a little much for the daily uses of email, videos, social media, and general browsing since it has the more powerful processor, lots of memory, and lots and lots of hard drive storage space. This would be a good choice if you are wanting to get the best horsepower and a little bit more screen area to use for video/graphics editing or just like to be sure you have plenty of kick available when you are popping open lots of tabs, apps, and programs.
Setup is easy, especially when moving from “old” to “new” Chromebook. Build quality seems sturdy enough, with a good bit of plastic for reduced weight. Battery power goes pretty much all day with light use, videos, and general browsing – but if you are really putting the stress on then you may want to have a charging plug handy to get in a complete day’s work.
Overall this is a good Chromebook for light home office, high school or college students (general use), and just puttering around for personal use. To me, it’s usually worth spending a few more bucks to go “up a notch” on electronics to be sure the Chromebook will still get the upgrades and maintain acceptable performance a few years down the road.

Compact, stylish, covers the essentials...

HP ENVY 6065e Printer
Compact, stylish, and covers the essentials
These 6000 series printers are very stylish, with a small footprint so they can sit on desktop or bookshelf without taking up a lot of room. Setup is pretty easy, with the HP Smart App on a phone or also can be set up using desktop/laptop computer. Once set up and connected to wireless network at home, the whole family can print from several computers, phones, and tablets. Everyone can print from wherever they are! Wife prints recipes and coupons from her Chromebook or phone, son prints schoolwork from desktop and tablet, I print student worksheets, certificates, and calendars from desktop.
Print quality is good, no issues with documents and pages with a lot of color look fine for school assignments and work presentations. Scanning is fully adjustable for size and resolution – everything is handled by using the HP Smart App. The HP Smart App guides you through scanning, special printing needs, settings, and shows you ink levels and any error messages that might pop up. The HP Print and Scan Doctor software helps troubleshoot if any issues come up with connection or functions of the printer. It is especially nice to be able to see your ink levels on the computer screen.
Speaking of ink, the Instant Ink was something new to me a while back when I got another HP printer to use in the office, but after using it for over a year I have found the Instant Ink to be a good choice – for a small amount per month I always get replacement cartridges shipped before the ink runs out, I get notifications that ink has shipped (with tracking), and I don’t have to decide if I want to print in color and “use up” that color cartridge or stick with black-and-white printing… I can print in color without hesitation, and it doesn’t cost any more from using the color inks. A little bit (or a lot) of color on a printed page makes a lot of difference and always looks nicer, and more professional!
If you are wondering whether to use the Instant Ink or not – this printer comes with months of “no charge” for the Instant Ink service to give you a chance to try it out. It is simplest to go ahead and enroll in the Instant Ink when setting up the printer, and you will get an immediate shipment of the larger ink cartridges sent right out so you will get them before the “comes with the printer” cartridges run out. These Instant Ink cartridges hold more ink, so they don’t need to be replaced as often, and with the Instant Ink it’s not a problem anyway as you will get a fresh shipment before you run out of ink. As you go through the first few months of the free Instant Ink program, you will get a good idea of what plan is best for you – and HP sends emails from time to time if you are using either less or more printed pages than your plan supports. There are also “rollover” copies from month to month if you print less pages one month and then more pages the next month. You do need to set up an account with HP to use the Instant Ink, but this is not much more than registering the printer for warranty documentation. I now have 2 HP Printers with the Instant Ink program – an HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 for the office, and the HP ENVY 6050e at home. I have to say I was not sold on the idea before I tried it out, but have found it so convenient and “no worries” about having to run out and buy new cartridges.
Overall this is a good printer for home, student, or small home office use.

Jabra Elite 4 Bluetooth Earbuds - good upgrade!
on April 7, 2023
Posted by: banjo
Jabra Elite 4 Bluetooth Earbuds
This is an upgrade from a pair of Elite 3 earbuds.
BATTERY LIFE >> The Elite 4 seems to have a longer battery life, going through a couple of movies and still holding a good charge.
CASE RECHARGING >> Recharging is more reliable, with both L||R buds charging equally and fully.
FIT AND COMFORT >> Fit is essentially the same as Elite 3 – with a low profile in the ear and stays in very nicely.
BLUETOOTH PARING >> is quick, and the Jabra app has improved with more control over the amount of noise cancelling, button customization, and equalizer.
SOUND QUALITY >> The pre-sets are just fine for me, with typical choices for music, podcast, video, and general use. If needed or desired, the equalizer can be adjusted for individual preferences.
ANC >> works well at filtering out most background noises. Always nice to have good ANC without having to go to the top-line and premium price.
OVERALL >> A good improvement over the Elite 3, with better performance, better battery life, more reliable recharging, and effective ANC at a competitive price.

I like this head design the best…

Philips Norelco Shaver 7200 >> I like this head design the best…
Have been using an older Norelco with the same type of 3-blade floating head, and much prefer this style to the “fixed head” and “foil” electric shavers. To each his own and I know of others that prefer the foil – so your experience may be different. It is interesting how a person’s beard “gets used to” a particular type of shaver, and I found this design works best with slow circular motion – as long as I can keep from getting in a hurry the morning shave doesn’t take very long. When I start rubbing the shaver back and forth or go too fast, that’s when I have to go back and keep at it to get the best results. Going slow and circular seems to work the best. Of course there is always the opportunity for a quick “touch up” in the evening before going out, which is another nice thing about a good electric shaver.
The best features on this for me are the wet/dry capability and the sideburn trimmer. Since I don’t have to worry about getting it wet, cleaning is easier by popping off the top, brush out the hairs, and rinse.
Charging is easy and a charge easily lasts me a week – probably longer but the shaver is new and I haven’t had to recharge it yet after a week, so I’ll let you know. Plug in the charger and lay it down by the sink – no worries about getting wet and a few hours on charge and ready for another week (or longer) of cord-free shaving.
I have read some negative reviews on this shaver (and most electric shavers will include some negative experiences) , but don’t understand why folks are having the problems they describe. Go slow, don’t push the shaver into your face, circular motion – I have never had problems with pulling hairs or irritation except when my older shaver’s blades started getting dull. On a brand new shaver – never had a problem. Again, to each his own and for me, this is a good shave.

Looks good, but set aside some time to assemble...
on February 11, 2023

Insignia™ - 3-Drawer File Cabinet – Black
Hey this is a nice cabinet that has a roomy bottom drawer for hanging folders and two upper drawers for odds and ends. I wanted a cabinet with both, and this seemed like the best solution. Nice to have a lock on the top drawer to secure my high-value electronics when stepping away from my desk for a while.
The finish is clean and looks appropriate for office environment. Casters are big enough to roll smoothly and has a “fifth wheel” towards the front which I haven’t seen before but I reckon helps support the weight of a full load in the hanging file drawer.
The top is 15x18 and just a little smaller than the “overhang” of my printer, but everything fits OK. If you have a “long” printer/copier and want to sit it on top, you may want to check your dimensions to be sure it fits. Mine was close but fortunately will be OK.
The cabinet comes in panels and has to be assembled. That is not unusual, but plan to set aside an afternoon to get this put together. Instructions are good, but there are a lot of nuts, bolts, pegs, and hardware involved. My concern was putting the parts in the wrong place because the connecting hardware does not seem to allow too many “in and out” errors. Getting the drawers assembled properly was the big challenge – maybe plan to get some help and double-check what you are doing each step to avoid problems.
Overall once assembled this looks good and seems sturdy enough to last a good long time. A nice change from using those old “hang and bang” sheet metal cabinets, so spending a little more on the wooden cabinet is a good step up in the office.

Back, shoulders, neck - best for these areas...
on January 7, 2023

Symbodi – Vertiball Mounted Muscle Care System
Good for pin-point massage – especially hard to reach spots on back and shoulders.
Muscle soreness on back and shoulders has always been problematic when trying to get massage or vibrator relief. Simply hard to reach those areas. The Vertiball takes care of this as long as you have a smooth surface to mount the suction cup. I had to try several spots around the house, and found that bathroom tile, plastic (like shower stall), metal door, or refrigerator work very well. Other surfaces sometimes don’t hold the ball very well, or at all. Basically if the surface is smooth or has a couple of coats of paint the ball stays put. This is clearly stated in the product description, so maybe think ahead about where you will mount this ball to be able to “lean back’ against it from waist-high to neck-high also works well for large muscles like thighs, especially back of the thigh and hamstring area where you can “back up” into the ball and move yourself up/down and right/left (small increments) to ease hamstring tension.
Use is very simple – just mount the Vertiball base, then pop in the massage ball section. When you release the suction cup, it will automatically release it’s grip on the ball section. Pull out the ball section and then flip the release lever to remove the suction cup base section. Once you have the Vertiball mounted, just press your body against it (not too hard) and move around a little to roll the ball over the area you are massaging. It just takes a little while to get the feel of how hard you can press against the ball and still keep the ball moving smoothly.
I tried using the Vertiball “hand held” which does work OK, but I would not buy it just for that purpose. Neck, shoulders, and back – those are the best target areas that will get the best use out of the Vertiball.

Stops the new-chair-every-2-years cycle,,,
on November 13, 2022

Insignia - High Back Executive Ergonomic Chair with Adjustable Headrest – Black
Stop the new-chair-every-2-years cycle with this one….
For those looking at a new office chair, there are the “cushion” chairs, which have foam cushions and padding for seat/back, and there are the “support” chairs that have mesh webbing that gives a little, but is intended to “push back” and support your back and bottom. This chair is a “support” chair.
OK I have been going through the cycle of getting a new office chair every couple of years to replace one that the cushions have crushed down to the plywood, or the seat support bearings are starting to wobble, any number of things that make the chair grow more and more uncomfortable over time. I always seemed to settle on the “not the cheapest but not too much” price range, which is OK for a while but weak spots or cushioning issues always seemed to start creeping in.
This time I decided to go up the price ladder and consider the chair as more of an investment in daily comfort and overall health. The Best Buy house brand seemed like a good choice, as Best Buy tries to match the best features of the well-known brands and come in at a lower price.
There are 2 models of the Insignia chair that I could choose from, and although they are both pretty much the same size and weight capacity, I went with the High Back to get the adjustable lumbar support and more adjustments including the arm rest, head rest, rocking, tilt adjustment, and “seat slide” that allows moving the seat forward/backward for just the right bottom position.
I’m glad to have these extra adjustables, as spending about 30 minutes adjusting the lumbar, headrest, and seat position provided the perfect fit – and I have not experienced this perfect fit with the less expensive chairs. Once I got the seat dialed in, it was the “why didn’t I do this a long time ago?” feeling, especially with all the seat-time that has been put in over the past few years.
A few words on the construction >> this chair seems built to last. The load-bearing parts are metal, with metal-to-metal fitted connections when assembling. The chair comes in several parts – securely packaged – and all the needed screws and tools are included and VERY CLEARLY LABELED so you can quickly find the right screw for the right part. Putting the chair together took about 30 minutes and I always take my time and (mostly) read the instructions – which are very clear and easy to follow.
Having gone through a few chairs over the years to get to this one, I feel pretty confident that I won’t need to buy a replacement for a long time, if ever.

Stylish but not too flashy….

Moscoe Solo Ambition Urban 17.3 Backpack
Stylish but not too flashy….
No question this is a sturdy and well-built backpack. I like the style, as it is conservative in appearance but has the orange accents and trim that add a little sizzle without going too far (for an older person). It’s kind of a surprise to open up this modestly colored backpack to be greeted by a bright orange interior, but after using it for just a little while I realized that the bright orange color made it exceedingly easy to see what was inside the backpack, and to find items that may have migrated to the bottom.
Plenty of pockets with webbing and pockets-in-pockets to have a place for everything, and everything in it’s place. This is one of those backpacks where from time-to-time you find a pocket that you didn’t know was there… nice surprise and it really does take a while to find all the pockets and pouches on this backpack.
The padding seems ample to protect a large 17” laptop and other electronics. I have put a 17” laptop, iPad, and small tablet in when going on the road, and there is plenty of room for the devices, chargers, and any other technology (cables, testing instruments, etc).
The backpack has a nice “expansion” pleat in the bottom that allows a really really full capacity when, and if, needed. The pleat folds back when there isn’t pressure on it, which keeps the backpack from getting “baggy” like a pillowcase if it has been packed full and then later it has been thinned down.
The shoulder straps are nicely padded, and good mesh in the back to keep it from getting too hot when walking around. Only small small issue I have is the carrying handle at the top (for a quick “grab and go”) does not quite have the amount of padding I would like. That’s not a deal-breaker, as I added a Velcro-strap cushion to the existing handle and it’s good to go!
Overall a nice backpack that seems very rugged and should last a long time.

Phenomenal battery life!
on October 31, 2022
Posted by: banjo
Soundcore by Anker Space Q45
I rate my headphones by 1 – comfort; 2 – sound; 3 – battery life.
Comfort always comes first. The Q45 have nice ear padding, and stay cool on the ears for extended periods. The headset is light on the head, and with the ear cup swivels and headband adjustment, they can “settle in” for a very good fit. I must add that the padding on the top of the headband is a little thin for me, as I don’t have any hair in that spot available for additional padding. Not a deal-breaker, but I plan to add a little something extra to accommodate the ALL DAY use that the battery life provides.
Sound is clear with good response range, and there are plenty of pre-sets and adjustments using the app that can match my needs.
OK I have to say that the battery life is unbelievable! I dare you to keep going with these until the battery finally runs out. I am in the habit of topping off my headsets after using them for an hour or so, and it took me a while to stop doing that with the Q45s. I can put them on and hear “battery high” and use them for an hour-ish, take them off to walk the dog, and put them back on and STILL hear “battery high” – I honestly haven’t had to worry about re-charging or topping off once I got used to the Q45 battery life! How they do it I don’t know, but I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t have a pair of my own.
The ANC works well and greatly reduces ambient sounds. It is not perfect, but works very well for this price range. Also a “passthrough” that allows sound through when desired, or “normal” that reverts to vanilla headphones.
Ease of pairing bears mentioning. Sometimes Bluetooth gets a little weird, but the Q45 pair quickly, can be used with multiple-pairing (2 devices same time), and best of all for me will be smart and pair with the closest device, so I don’t keep pairing with the desktop in the office instead of the laptop on the sofa right next to me.
Pretty nice case also comes with the headset. The cups fold in and curl up inside the case, and toss the case in your backpack and you have several full days of use if you are headed for the hills.
All things considered, these meet my needs for good fit, long-term comfort, and extended battery life.

Great for older geeks who don't need the "sizzle"
By banjo from macon, ga
Actually the "top of the line" G910 gaming keyboard was marked down to a lower price when I got this, but too much "gamer" stuff on the G910 and not for an 'older professional' who wants to appear more mature than his 13-year-old gaming son. IMO the G910 wasn't selling as well as hoped, and the G810 is (to me) the superior model in design, appearance, and performance.
This G810 looks professional on the desk, has OUTSTANDING color display (note that the 'special' keys on the number keys are also illuminated -- missing on many of the other illuminated keyboards - aren't these ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) the ones you can never remember when typing in the dark?), no "bottom of the keys" light spillover that takes away from the illumination focus, superior engineering on the Romer-G switches (Check out the tour of the Romer-G factory in Japan on YouTube), and feels like a BRICK in the hand (a GOOD BRICK) with heavy-duty construction. The 3-way adjustable tilt and huge rubber feet on the bottom will keep this from sliding around on any desk, including glass-tops. The only thing that makes this look like a "gamer rig" is the FABULOUS and CRISP color displays... which are easy to see even with the lights on in the room > fully adjustable to get it just the way you want at home or at work. I may be an old-timer, but I don't mind showing off a little bit and this keyboard is an EYE-CATCHER when the lights start doing the 'wave' across the keyboard!
I read all the reviews and fiddled with the keyboards on display and there seem to be "Logitech Nay-Sayers" who can't bear the idea of using anything other than the older design "cherry" keys. I have gone from manual touch-typing > to I B M Selectric > to I B M 'clicky' keyboard (still one of my favorites) > to membranes > to whatever-cheapo-keyboard Dell includes in their educational computers > to a Saitek PK17U Cyborg > to this keyboard. This one is the best by FAR! Re: keys... you get a little 'click' so the sound and some tactile/touch reinforcement for keyboarding (typing) is there, but not too loud and for me just enough to let me know I hit the key. Yes it feels different from the cheapo Dell keyboard i just unplugged and replaced, but every keyboard is different and this one feels like driving a luxury car!
Speaking of my son, he is now looking over at my new keyboard and looking at his illuminated keyboard and I think I know what he will be asking for come Christmas. Fortunately, the box still had the promotion of free download and activation code for "The Division" so the kid has something to keep him busy until Santa Claus comes.
If you are an old crab like me, but like a little 'sizzle' when using your computer and want to treat yourself to a smooth-as-silk keyboard... this is the one I would recommend. Leave the "whoopee" keyboards to the kids.
PS - you can hit a quick button on the keyboard and turn off the light display if you want to turn off the light show for a while.

Update @ Christmas 2016
December 21, 2016
Mentioned that my son was keeping an eye on my G810 from the get-go... first time I let him 'test drive' my G810 he says "ooooh, that feels nice" and decided he wanted to go to mechanical keyboard. He has a 'gamer' RBD keyboard (non-mechanical) with extra bells and whistles he has been using for a year or two, but instantly fell in love with the mechanical feel. Just gave him a "Week before Christmas" present of his own G810. He had his pick of the models available, and after tapping some keys and looking at the different models chose to get the G810. Just goes to show the "fancy schmancy" keyboards might look more-cooler-better but the proof is in the feel of the keys. It's a keyboard, after all.

Meet the unrivaled, everyday noise canceling headphone for people who want to keep it simple. Hesh ANC is engineered with just the right amount of added features to make your life a little easier without a lot of additional technology that you might not need.

Does the headphone have a mic built into the headset where you can make phone calls?

yes there are actually 4 built-in microphones for the "ambient" function and for phone calls. i was using a "boom mic" gaming headset for my virtual meetings and phone calls, and when switching back and forth during a phone call and a meeting to check out the difference, the people in the meeting and on the phone call said they could not tell much difference between "boom mic" gaming headset and the Skullcandy headset. considering the comfort and battery life of the Skullcandy headset (see my review) i prefer the Skullcandy to the gaming headset, and also don't have to "switch" to earbuds when going back and forth from virtual meetings and classes and making or receiving phone calls. the Skullcandy headset works very nicely for all things all day long.

Pair Surface Go Type Cover with Surface Go* for a full keyboard experience anywhere. Ultra-compact, yet it includes a complete mechanical keyset, backlit keys, and extra-large trackpad. Plus, three colors are covered in rich Alcantara material¹ for an added touch of luxury and comfort.

What is the power source for the Microsoft Surface Go type cover?

the keyboards do not have a built-in battery that needs to be charged separately. the keyboard draws power (for the BACKLIGHTING - very nice!) from the computer battery when it is "popped" on. Nothing to worry about like forgetting to charge your keyboard, or losing the Bluetooth connection - it is all direct connection for power and signal. The Microsoft Surface keyboard seems to be something that everyone agrees is well designed and "one of the best" out there for a detachable keyboard/trackpad. Hope this helps and Stay Safe!

Do yoou have to use an app on your phone to install it?

phone app, tablet app or computer app - one or the other is needed to set up the printer. there is no "touch screen" display like other models, so you will need phone, laptop, desktop, chromebook, tablet.... anything will do as long as it connects to your home network (or the same network as the printer).

HP OMEN Obelisk by HP Desktop: Play graphically intense games with this HP OMEN Obelisk desktop computer. You can easily store large amounts of media and other data on the 1TB hard drive and install games and programs on the 256GB SSD for fast access. This HP OMEN Obelisk desktop computer has 16GB of memory for multitasking effectively, and the Intel Core i7-9700 processor handles resource-intense programs efficiently.

Is the storage (and other features, I suppose) upgradeable? If I wanted to install higher storage (a 2TB HDD or a 500g SSD, for example) is that doable? If so, is it easily doable?

very easy to swap or add hard drives - the solid panel pops right off and there are two drive bays ready to go. i did what you are asking about by pulling the 1TB drive that came with the system out, and replacing with a 2TB drive that already had my game files on it (steam stuff - you know what i mean) and adding a 1TB SSD in the second bay. Transferred the system settings from the "old" computer to this new one using TransWiz to migrate the windows 10 user profiles from the old machine and this freed up the 1TB SSD from the "old" machine to be used for game files on the Obelisk.

Are both side panels removable? I know the windowed one will come off, but is the other side detach as well? Thanks in advance for your answers!

yes both side pop off very easily. the clear side panel for access to the motherboard, the solid side panel gives you access to the quick-change slots for 2 hard drives. I swapped out the provided hard drive with one that already had game files on it, and the popped in a SSD in the blank bay. just use the rails to mount the hard drives and leave the little tiny screws in the tool box. easy peasy!

This SanDisk Ultra Fit USB flash drive uses USB 3.1 technology to deliver up to 10 times the transfer speed of older drives.

Is the file format FAT 32?

yes the drive comes pre-formatted as FAT32. if you want to transfer files larger than 4GB then you will need to re-format NTSF.

Is the model of this phone 1660 or 1778? I know this question was asked, but not answered. I know they were having trouble with the audio in these two models.

i got 10+ couple days ago and it says model I3223. software is most current 53.0.A.4.79 so no update needed as i have heard about some Xperia 10 early shipments. from what i have heard some issues were from software that needed updating, and i have had no issues with audio, bluetooth, or other concerns.

i saw an ad at UK store that said "free case from SONY" that ships with the phone. i expect it will be hard to find a case (or screen protector) for this new phone. does anyone have an idea if the BestBuy package comes with "free case" ??

well i will answer my own question. got my 10+ and no 'free case' for US customers. box came with phone, charger, USB cable, and micro-documentation.
