Tom Shadyac directs Robin Williams in the feel-good comedy Patch Adams, which comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. There are neither subtitles nor closed captions on this release. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this disc does offer excellent sound and picture quality.

Boring...Yawn

'Patch Adams' is a disappointing and boring movie that gets more attention on this dvd than it deserves. Skip it.

Experience filmmaker Peter Jackson's imaginative interpretation of author J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved fantasy in its entirety with this comprehensive release of all three entries in the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. Each film is presented in 1.33:1 pan-and-scan and accompanied by closed-captioned English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital-EX audio with optional English subtitles. See individual releases' information for special features.

You Lose Almost 50% Of the Image With Full-Screen
on April 26, 2008
Posted by: kevman79
this full-screen dvd set alters the original theatrical aspect ratios of the movies from 2.35:1 to 1.33:1, giving a picture in which you lose almost 50% of the image on each side in every scene. Buy the widescreen version instead.

Buy Only If You Don't Have the 4-Disc Version
on April 26, 2008

This extended version dvd set, part of of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, is quite good, though I cannot recommend it if you already own the 4-disc extended version. There are some new bonus features on this most recent version, but unfortunately almost all the previous bonus features from the past dvd releases have been dropped, as has the DTS audio. Fanatic fans may want to purchase anyway, but it's an unnecessary and costly investment in my opinion.

Extended Versions Are Better
on April 26, 2008
Posted by: kevman79
This dvd set of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, is quite good, though I cannot recommend it since the dvd set containing the 'extended versions' is so much better. If you're going to invest in these movies, you may as well go all-out and buy the films in their most complete format.

Outstanding Film With Great Message
on April 26, 2008

'Wargames' is a movie that everyone should see at least once as it deals completely with the moral implications of thermonuclear warfare. Good writing along with great performances make this one well worth it. Whether or not to buy this one will depend on how often you like to watch it. But most fans are sure to jump for joy over the anamorphic widescreen transfer. Highly recommended!

Shamefully Poor

This remake of 'Godzilla' was just unbelievably stupid and isn't worth the dvd it's pressed on. Skip this one at all costs.

Starring Steve Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy, the 1986 sci-fi comedy Short Circuit centers on a robot who gains consciousness after being struck by lightning. Guttenberg and Sheedy fall in love while helping the charming robot escape the U.S. government. This bare-bones DVD release offers no bonus features, but treats the film nicely with a widescreen transfer and multiple English soundtracks in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Digital Stereo. Previously, in 2000, a nicely loaded edition with director commentary and production material was released.

This Movie Had 'Short Circuits' Of Its Own
on April 26, 2008

'Short Circuit' is a disappointing movie overall, and has only a few funny moments. It's also a film thats sequel was far superior. Non-anamorphic letterbox widescreen, and no bonus features.

Can't Believe They Put This On Dvd
on April 26, 2008

Well, the good news is that if 'The Wizard' can get an official dvd release, than there is still hope for all the other truly good films out there that still haven't. Because the bottom line is, 'The Wizard' is just awful, which is somewhat strange because the cast isn't half bad. The problem is the storyline and the plot, which is about as absurd as they get. As a videogamer myself, my favorite thing to do when I watched this movie as a kid (which I did a couple of times), was to look for all the inconsistencies and editing errors that take place during the videogame shots, they're pretty bad. Unless you have some weird obsession for this film, which I'm sure there's probably a few people that do, I'd say forget this dvd ever existed. I'm sure Fred Savage and Christian Slater would thank you for it.
