This family-oriented fantasy gets a sturdy presentation on DVD. The Boy Who Could Fly has been given a widescreen transfer at its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1; the image is letterboxed on conventional televisions and enhanced for 16 x 9 playback on widescreen monitors. The film's English-language audio has been remixed for playback in Dolby Digital Surround; the disc also includes alternate audio tracks in French and Portuguese, as well as subtitles in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. The feature is also closed-captioned in English.

'The Boy Who Could Fly,' while mainly aimed at younger viewers, is still a good movie in its own right with some very touching moments. Nice anamorphic widescreen presentation and bonus commentary. Recommended.
Based on a short story by the extremely influential science fiction writer William Gibson (who also wrote the screenplay), Johnny Mnemonic has never been well regarded by fans of Gibson or science fiction fans in general. As directed by painter-turned-filmmaker Robert Longo, the film never really captured the cyberpunk world in look or feel, that say, Blade Runner or The Matrix mastered. Nevertheless, Columbia-TriStar Home Entertainment's disc of the film, as part of their Superbit line of high-resolution DVDs, looks and sounds fantastic. Like other Superbit titles, there are no extras included. But the low-end price for such a high-end disc surely makes up for that. The disc is offered in its proper aspect ratio of 1.85:1 (anamorphically enhanced for widescreen TVs) and has been equipped for both Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and DTS. The picture is sharp and dynamic, with colors properly balanced throughout. The soundtrack is incredible and should really give your audio system a nice workout. Multiple foreign language subtitles have also been supplied, as well as chapter selections.

Don't waste your hard earned money on this superbit release. One of the worst films I've seen, 'Johnny Mnemonic' is a mess of a picture that probably could have been much better. The only consolation is that Dolph Lundgren's character is a riot to watch.
Robert Longo's big-screen adaptation of cyberpunk godfather William Gibson's Johnny Mnemonic comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence. This disc looks and sounds great, which, when coupled with the inexpensive list price, makes this disc worthwhile for any genre enthusiast.

Jonathan Lynn's Clue has gained something of a cult following since its original release in 1985. The disc of the film offers a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer. The gimmick when the film was initially released was that it had three different endings. When the film began to air on television, the three endings were combined into one finale. The disc offers the viewer the choice to view any of the three conclusions. This is a fine release from Paramount, but they really could have done more with it, especially the soundtrack.

Martial arts hero Thomas Ian Griffith wrote, produced, and starred in this action thriller. Terry McCain (Griffith) is a Chicago police officer who is bent on revenge after his partners are killed by Mafia gunmen. McCain knows that he won't be able to get the justice he demands within the system, so he persuades his boss, Devlin (Lance Henriksen), to keep him off the list of suspects after he kills mob kingpin Sal DiMarco (Burt Young). McCain changes his mind about killing the crime boss, but someone else with a grudge guns down DiMarco instead; however, when he tries to meet with Devlin to explain what's happened, he's met by a squad of killers. McCain learns that his partner Frankie (Tony Todd) is actually still alive and was in cahoots with Devlin to steal $3 million in drug money away from DiMarco, a deal scotched by McCain's desire for revenge. The supporting cast includes James Earl Jones and Charlotte Lewis.

Michael Apted's under-appreciated Thunderheart comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Subtitles are accessible in both of those languages. Supplemental materials are limited to a theatrical trailer. While the extras leave something to be desired, the sound and picture quality are solid enough that this Columbia/TriStar disc should not disappoint those looking for something outside of the Hollywood mainstream.

Beeban Kidron cross-dressing comedy To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English, Spanish, and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles on this release, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include deleted scenes. This is a fine release from Universal that does offer excellent sound and picture quality even though it is short on meaningful extras.

The only good thing about this movie was the acting, everything else seemed silly, and I wouldn't bother with this one if I were you. Widescreen, minor bonus features.
Kevin Bacon and Robocop director Paul Verhoeven teamed up for this invisible-man story, which arrives on DVD in a special edition courtesy of Columbia/TriStar. It's a splendid package, with plenty to offer. The film itself is presented in a 1.85:1 widescreen anamorphic format. It is an impressive transfer, with strong depth and clarity. The sound is also noteworthy. Dolby Digital 5.1 is used to full effect here, especially during the harrowing lab sequences or the pell-mell chase at the end. The DVD also offers a mountain of extras, including three deleted scenes and a commentary by Bacon, Verhoeven, and screenwriter Andrew Marlowe. There are also a ton of short featurettes. Clocking in at a few minutes each, they provide details about various effects sequences and other behind-the-scenes info. Viewers are also treated to a before-and-after look at three key scenes in the movie, as well as the usual trailers and bios. Regardless of what one thinks of the film itself, the Hollow Man DVD is worth a look. The excellent picture and sound, combined with the bounty of extras, make this a special edition that lives up to its promise.

Howie Mandel obeys his animal instincts in this comedy, which gets a streamlined presentation for its release on DVD. Walk Like a Man has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono. The dialogue is in English, with optional subtitles in English, Spanish, and French. As a bonus, this release also includes the film's original trailer.

I remember really liking this movie as a kid, but when viewing it recently, couldn't believe what a bad movie it really is. Taking into account the plot, I'm not really surprised I don't enjoy it as an adult. Anyway, this one is probably best for those under the age of 10, but I'm sure there are those who are older that still get a kick out of it. Not much on this dvd release, just the movie, in full-screen only...
