Alice Cooper Metal at it's finest!
on August 8, 2008

This mid 80's release "Raise Your Fist and Yell" will have you yelling for more Metal from Alice Cooper. The songs are all catchy, Metal driven and rifftastic. Alice Cooper's vocals are one of kind, having a great band behind him on this one, making it not just a fun Metal CD but also musically and lyrically respectable. Alice Cooper, in my opinion, has led the way for all the spooky, horror Metal bands and deserves the recognition of a pioneer of this genre. I highly recommend "Raise Your Fist and Yell to all Heavy Metal enthusiasts and Hard Rock fans too.
What's great about it: Alice Cooper of course, great band behind Cooper

Exodus keeps Thrashing onward!

For all Exodus fans, this one is a keeper. For all Metal and Thrash fans, this is a must own. Rob Dukes belts it out vocally with a ferocious attitude that will get your attention. Gary Holt is simply awesome as a lead guitarist, his signature sound is not just catchy, it is downright legendary after all these years. The lyrics are great, "Shudder to Think" is my favorite off of this release, both the lyrics and the riffs are what makes this song so great. Paul Bostaph is the drummer and makes a powerful impression throughout. "Shovel Headed Kill Machine" has made it's presence known throughout the Metal world, Exodus shows once again their deep respect for Thrash Metal with this release. Be confident in knowing you are purchasing true leaders of Thrash Metal here, Exodus has delivered.
What's great about it: Heavy Thrash, great lead guitarist, fabulous lyrics

Powerhouse pump you up Metal!!
on August 2, 2008

As I always say, in my opinion, Helloween is one of the greatest Power Metal bands to ever play. On my own personal list I rank Helloween as number one for Power Metal. "Gambling With the Devil" will not disappoint any Metal fan of any genre. How can you not acknowledge such musical prowess as this? The speed is at times borderline thrash on the cut "Kill It", while "Can Do It", "I.M.E.", "As Long As I Fall" and "Heaven Tells No Lies" are true to the pedal, pump you up Power Metal thrills! Andi Deris is as amazing as ever on vocals, the total musical package is jaw dropping, the entire band deserves a bow for this great Power Metal accomplishment. Do yourself a favor, if you are even considering purchasing "Gambling With the Devil" consider no more, just buy it and be thankful Helloween exists.
What's great about it: 12 songs, great lyrics, amazing vocals and musicianship

Old school Rush worth listening to!
on August 1, 2008

Rush is without doubt, in my opinion, the world leader in Progressive Rock, inspiring numerous Progressive Heavy Metal bands for the last few decades. With that said, "Caress of Steel" is a must purchase for all Rush and Progressive Rock/Metal fans. "Caress of Steel" provides the listener with instrumental interludes, precision guitar with percussion and bass performed almost majestically together to form a style of music unlike any other band in history. "I Think I'm Going Bald" is a funny song lyrically, a surprise actually to this particular set of songs, yet I always want to crank up the volume for this one. Enjoy this much overlooked Rush release, it will make you want to buy all the earliest Rush out there.
What's great about it: This is Rush at it's old school, progressive finest

The definitive Misfits album!
on July 31, 2008
Posted by: Fiend
from Pennsylvania
"Earth A.D." is the definitive Misfits album to own. This release defined the Misfits as not only a powerhouse punk band to reckon with, yet it was a sample of how truly aggressive musically the Misfits can be. I feel you can trace Thrash Metal roots to this masterpiece, with the guitar riffs and speed blended with the rhythm section frenzy. Each song is short, yet Misfits fans should already know. The entire playing time is about 20 minutes or so, yet worth every second. This is a must for Misfits fans, punk fans and Metal fans who want to hear how history was made.
What's great about it: Danzig on vocals, aggressive punk

Perfect Strangers is Perfecto!
on July 31, 2008
Posted by: Fiend

If you are looking to add just one classic hard rock cd to your collection for the next 12 months, this should be it. "Perfect Strangers" is simply put, perfect. The signature guitar sound of Ritchie Blackmore, the recognizable keyboards, and the incredible, eye popping vocal range of Ian Gillian are all over these songs. "Knockin' at Your Back Door" and "Perfect Strangers" are the two hits that drove this legendary release to FM radio popularity. "Son of Alerik", the bonus track, is an instrumental that is so fitting to conclude "Perfect Strangers", it is melodic and mello, led by Ritchie Blackmore's unmatched ability to make a guitar literally sing for you. I always wish this Deep Purple lineup stayed together forever, the consolation is that "Perfect Strangers" can be enjoyed forever. Do not hesitate to buy this Deep Purple gem.
What's great about it: Legendary lineup of Ian Gillian, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Ian Paice.
What's not so great: none here

Motorhead serves us right with their Metal!
on July 27, 2008
Posted by: Fiend

After 30 years we are blessed as a Heavy Metal community to have Motorhead still giving to us their incredible gift of Rock & Roll. There is no doubt that Lemmy and the gang are still very capable of delivering as awesome an offering of their brand of Metal today, as they have done 20 or more years ago. "Kiss of Death" is a MUST buy for every Motorhead fan, Heavy Metal fans should be gobbling up this potent punch of crunch and feeling thankful that Motorhead still rocks today. There is not one flaw on this disc, Lemmy, Phil and Mickey can take a bow. To pick a favorite or group of favorite tunes off this disc is impossible. All Motorhead songs created by Lemmy are meant to educate the masses on how Rock & Roll should be, blunt, straight to the point, fun, LOUD and darn right nuts. BUY this latest Motorhead studio release "Kiss of Death", it will serve you right.
What's great about it: Still Motorhead after all these years, Lemmy still has the bark
What's not so great: never with Motorhead

Ball Breaker is a blast!
on July 26, 2008
Posted by: Fiend
from Pennsylvania
AC/DC did a nice job with "Ball Breaker". They are at it again with their trademark bluesy Metal, with Angus Young pounding out all the more catchy riffs, that make you feel like everything is just alright. "Cover You In Oil" and "Hard as a Rock" are the two more recognizable songs that were/are played on decent FM Rock radio stations. This is by far not the greatest AC/DC album ever made, yet it is a great listen. I really respect the fact AC/DC has not changed their musical style for no one, delivering quality Metal time and again. "Hail Ceasar" is probably the one and only tune on this disc that will have you wondering why? This release is a must for any AC/DC fan and Hard Rock/Metal fans should appreciate "Ball Breaker".
What's great about it: Angus Young on lead guitar and Brian Johnson belting his trademark raspy vocals
What's not so great: none
