The tenth anniversary of the popular prison drama The Shawshank Redemption sees a deluxe DVD edition of the film hitting stores for the first time. The movie's image is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary from writer/director Frank Darabont, a making-of documentary, and a second documentary explaining how the film has attained such a high level of popularity, seeing as it was not exactly a blockbuster when it initially played in theaters. A Charlie Rose interview with Darabont and stars Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, the movie's trailer, and a spoof of the film featuring sharks round out this first-rate release from Warner Bros.

David Fincher's serial killer thriller Seven was given a fabulous two-disc deluxe release a few years back. This single-disc edition offers an inexpensive way to acquire just the film without the extras that were loaded onto that previous edition. The film is presented here in a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital EX 5.1, DTS ES Surround Sound, and Stereo Surround Sound. English and French subtitles are accessible. Both the video and audio quality are excellent.

By far, in my eyes, one of the craziest thriller ever made. You have three of the best actors, Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, and Kevin Spacey, brings this thriller that will have you guessing until the end.

This is probably the best storyline and the best movie of Batman, but don't get me wrong, I still think Michael Keaton was the best Batman, but this storyline is better because he is darker. If they keep the focus on being darker, than this series could last alot longer than the first series
From director Edward Zwick (Glory, Legends of the Fall), The Last Samurai is the 19th-century tale of a U.S. Civil War soldier played by Tom Cruise who is contracted to train an army for the Japanese government. Also starring Ken Watanabe, the film was nominated for two Academy Awards and is featured here in a loaded two-disc DVD package. The widescreen anamorphic transfer is complimented by a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround soundtrack with available subtitles in English, Spanish, and French. Additionally, the original English soundtrack is included in Dolby Digital Stereo and there is a dubbed French track in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Along with the film, the first disc features a running audio commentary track by Zwick. The second disc is packed with a wealth of additional material that essentially covers every aspect of the film's production. History vs. Hollywood: The Last Samurai is a documentary that originally aired on The History Channel, while "Edward Zwick: Director's Video Journal" takes viewers behind the scenes through the eyes of the director and includes narration by both Zwick and Cruise. Other featurettes delve into such topics as production design, costume design, the weapons featured, and the memorable beheading scene. Rounding out disc two is footage from the film's Japanese premieres, a collection of deleted scenes, and the original theatrical trailer. A full-screen edition with the same features is also available.

This movie is pure greatness on all points with the set shots, the plot, the acting, just everything. Even though its a bit long, but it doesn't flow as another long movie that should have been cut down.

Tom Cruise was good as dead-beat dad and the CGI is pure greatness, but this movie fell flat. They had too much going on and it didn't tie everything together.

The Tom Cruise vehicle Cocktail comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Supplementary materials are limited to the theatrical trailer. This is a sparse disc from Disney/Buena Vista, but it should be enough to satisfy fans of the film, who along with Tom Cruise fans represent this title's intended audience. There is little here to interest the average DVD consumer.

From the novel by S.E. Hinton, this all-star film comes to this two-sided DVD with English Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround and regular (1.33:1) and widescreen (2.35:1) anamorphic/letterbox options. The theatrical trailer and English and French subtitles are also included, but there are no other special features. The picture comes through cleanly and with naturalistic coloring, almost totally lacking the jerks and fits of videos transferred to DVD, and the audio sounds equally natural and pleasantly crisp with no background hiss. Although most of the film's action unfolds at night, the footage is clear and well contrasted. The cardboard case liner includes a chapter listing.

Originally released in the early days of DVD, Jerry Maguire had great sound and picture, but nothing more. The release of this two-disc special edition has certainly changed that and the lack of extras on the first release is made up in droves. The first disc, with the movie, has a commentary track with director Cameron Crowe and stars Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger, and Cuba Gooding Jr. The second disc, though, has the wealth of supplemental features. Here the movie is presented again, but in a smaller box with a video commentary of the four participants. It's the same commentary as the first disc, and while entertaining to watch them interact, there are far too many dry spells. Obviously they enjoy just watching the movie again. The remainder of the extras on the second disc are plentiful, including deleted scenes and rehearsal footage (both with optional commentary), a made-up shoe commercial with "Rod Tidwell," a Bruce Springsteen music video, photo gallery, theatrical trailers, and a brief featurette with cast and crew interviews. As for picture and sound, they're impeccable. The 1.85:1 image is representational of the theatrical experience with nicely saturated colors and solid, deep blacks. The 5.1 Dolby Digital track is also impressive, with just the right amount of surround material and clean, distinct use of the all important front speakers. Dialogue is clear and never distorted. All in all, this special edition is equal to most produced, in all respects.

Pure greatness, probably because of Cube Gooding Jr.'s Oscar Winning Performance, or because Tom Crusie did a good job playing a depressed sport agent or just because this movie had so much chemistry throughout. Who cares, it is still a great movie, and maybe because...you complete me
