Ron Howard's kidnapping thriller Ransom comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. The film has neither looked nor sounded better on home video. Spanish subtitles are accessible, and a French soundtrack has also been included. The extensive supplemental materials include a detailed commentary by Howard. He discusses many elements of the production and is full of praise for his cast. Those who like insider gossip will greatly enjoy the story of what happened the day Mel Gibson was nominated for an Oscar for directing Braveheart. Numerous deleted scenes have been included, and two behind-the-scenes featurettes allow the actors to talk about the process of making the film. This disc was released simultaneously with a number of Ron Howard films that have all been outfitted with quality extras.

Very intense movie

Pure greatness, I love the way this movie is shot for its dramatic scenes with Mel Gibson and Rene Russo. You could feel their pain for their missing son. Everything is great in this movie.

Sometimes having a re-make isnt always a good idea

I saw the original and it scared me, but this does the exact opposite. It wasn't scary, it was too long, and the chemistry wasn't there between the main characters.

For a film that performed only modestly well at the box office, this disc was given a much better treatment than one might expect. The special features contain the original theatrical trailer, three deleted scenes, an audio commentary track with screenwriter Ben Ramsey and, best of all, a second full-length commentary track featuring director Kirk Wong and producer Terence Chang. This second track is a sort of question-and-answer session between Wong and Chang, interesting because Chang is a seasoned professional, having produced almost all of John Woo's films over the years, whereas Wong comes across as younger and less experienced, this being his first Hollywood picture. All of these are brought together with smoothly animated menus, and taken as a whole they make for a very compelling extras package and add a great deal to the enjoyment of the film. The producers of the disc didn't stop with the special features, however; they have done an excellent job preserving the integrity of the original image in an anamorphic, 16 x 9-enhanced transfer. As is often the case, one side of the disc contains the widescreen version of the film, whereas the other side contains the full-screen version. There are three audio tracks: French and English two-channel Surround and an English 5.1 track. The film has an urban, hip-hop edge to it, which is reflected in the soundtrack, so expect the subwoofer to get a thorough workout with the heavy bass rhythms throughout; at times it can be a little overpowering and should perhaps have been mixed slightly lower, as not all home theater systems will be equipped to handle it. Aside from that, however, the mix is strong and fairly evenly balanced. For those who didn't catch this film in the theaters, this disc will make an excellent introduction.

A ridiculously funny action movie

Non-stop action with no believable plot and is just an off-the-wall comedy that will have laughing until you cry. This is a movie you don't take seriously

Wesley Snipes' Die Hard-on-a-plane, Passenger 57, comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves director Kevin Hooks' original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include production notes and nine theatrical trailers. This disc delivers the picture and the sound with high quality. Genre enthusiasts will certainly want to give this disc a look.

Sylvester Stallone is a time-sleeper with a twist as he chases a vicious killer into the future in this humorous sci-fi thriller from Warner Home Video. Presented in the original 2.35:1 widescreen theatrical aspect ratio (anamorphically enhanced for 16 x 9 TVs) and with a closed-captioned English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, this release also features an additional Spanish Dolby Digital Mono track and optional English, Spanish, and French subtitles. Extra features include a feature-length commentary track with director Marco Brambilla and producer Joel Silver, production notes, and theatrical trailers.

Action-packed-comedy movie

This is one of those non-stop action movies that came in the 90s, a real guys-movie that has an okay plot but better action.

Joseph Ruben's Money Train comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack has been rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while English, Spanish, and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. Subtitles are available in all three of these languages as well. Supplemental materials are limited to theatrical trailers. The superb picture and sound make this disc worthwhile for genre enthusiasts, as well as fans of Harrelson and Snipes.

This movie brings that great chemistry of Woody Harelson and Wesley Snipes, in this action packed movie. It really is an okay movie that does exactly what it was suppose to do, which is to entertain you

Leon Ichaso directs Wesley Snipes in the crime drama Sugar Hill, which comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Subtitles are accessible in both of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer, and a making-of featurette. This is a fine release from 20th Century Fox that should please genre enthusiasts and fans of Wesley Snipes.

Wesley Snipes is pure greatness as a drug dealer who is at the top of the drug game, but is strugling to try find a way out. This is a great movie to watch, to see another side of the game where you realize that there isn't a retirement plan.

Tony Scott's tale of an obsessed baseball fanatic, The Fan, comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. A French, a Spanish, and a second English soundtrack have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. This is a technically solid DVD from Columbia/TriStar that delivers good sound and picture quality, but little else.

I don't know about you, but I like Robert De Niro as the villian in movies. Mr De Niro is pure greatness as the fan that will do anything to make his favorite baseball player a winner.

Walter Hill's prison/boxing film Undisputed comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The English soundtrack is impressively rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include interviews with the two lead actors -- Ving Rhames and Wesley Snipes. This is a solid release from Disney/Buena Vista that does boast excellent sound and picture quality.

Goldie Hawn is great as woman who is so focused on being a football, she'll coach anybody and even an urban team that is dead last. I liked this movie because its just funny from beginning to the end.
