My dad enjoys the game a lot, and he rarely played video games until we had bought this game. I'm not really even a casual Beatles fan, but I enjoy this game.
If you are a moderate Beatles fan, or even if you are just a casual fan who has heard/hummed their tunes before, this is a great game to pick up.
What's great about it: beautifully remastered tracks, short loading times, great graphics, fun

Follow-up Review (Full Review on PS3 Bundle)
on November 17, 2009

This is a follow-up review. Please see the review on the Band Hero PlayStation 3 bundle.
***Apparently, there is only significant audio lag depending on what type of TV you are using. Playing on a Sony Bravia XBR HDTV, the audio lag is there, which is what I said in the review on the bundle.
For example, when I was playing the game on a Sony 1080p TV, my audio lag was set at 165. However, on a Panasonic 1080i TV, my audio lag was set at 35. So, it's NOT the game itself that may cause lag. It may simply just be the type of TV you are playing on.***
I just wanted to clear that up.

A "Hero" for the Family
on November 6, 2009
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
Band Hero is a great family game. It's easy to set up - just put the pieces together, plug it in, insert the disc, and play. There are songs for almost everyone in the family to enjoy. This game really challenges the person(s) on the microphone (up to four lead singers).
The audio quality is great - Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. Almost all the tracks sound like they have been remastered for this game.
Music includes artists and song titles ranging from the Jackson 5's "ABC" to Taylor Swift's "Love Story" and "You Belong With Me," Hinder's "Lips of an Angel" to Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting" to the Spice Girls' "Wannabe," The All-American Rejects' "Dirty Little Secret" to Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life," and the list just goes on and on...at least until you count up to 65 songs.
If you're looking for the new drum set containing circular cymbals compared to the original triangular-shaped cymbals, this is not the bundle for you. Included in this bundle is the same drum set from the Guitar Hero World Tour bundle. The new drum set is [for now] exclusive to the Wii, which will be packaged with the Xbox 360 and PS3 bundles later this season or early next year. The guitar is the same one from the Guitar Hero 5 bundle and the microphone is just a regular Guitar Hero mic.
***On the major downside, the auto-calibration system is just not there. I've read reviews on Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero 5, and many people have been experiencing calibration problems. The same goes for this game. When calibrating, there may not be any video lag, but there is significant audio lag. It was a trial-and-error process for the first SEVERAL HOURS of gameplay.
What may work for most people is calibrating only the video lag and setting the audio lag anywhere from 160 to 200 (the maximum). My video lag was calibrated to 0 (zero), but my audio lag needs to be within the 160 to 200 range. My audio lag is currently set around 180. Hopefully, this will fix the calibration for those having trouble with this part.***
Also, there is an annoying internet connection check when you start the game every time. I think it's for accessing leaderboards to post your scores online or whatnot - I forgot what it says. It's not something to really gripe about (after you press start, just press circle to go back and select OK), but it is there.
Overall, Band Hero is a great game for those interested in mainstream music. Almost everyone in the family will be reaching for an instrument to play.
What's great about it: easy to set up, great sound quality, family game
What's not so great: calibration (lag), song list could have more and better songs (not the "biggest" pop artists)

The Dark Knight has to be the best action movie thus far. The plot twists leave you guessing until the very end - simply brilliant!
No one but Heath Ledger could have played the Joker any better.
This film does not deserve anything less than five stars. In fact, I'd give it a gold star.

Simple, Yet...Amazing
on November 25, 2008
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
Shadow of the Colossus offers a very unique style of fighting - very simple, because the only weapons used (until Hard Mode is unlocked) are the sword and bow and arrow; but it takes a great deal of strategy when fighting each colossus, because they all have different speeds, movement patterns, attacks, and weaknesses. Battle strategies involve constantly running with the horse, platforming, dodging and rolling, catching each colossus' attention, tricking a colossus to do something to expose its weakness, and holding on for dear life.
The scenery is incredible - visual effects in its own calibre. Presentation is among the best, especially when comparing the size of the main character to each colossus before a battle - it really does feel like all hope is lost. One might even find one's self saying, "Oh $#@%!" every now and then, but a great sense of accomplishment always follows each victory.
However, the storyline is rather boring. To sum it all up, the protagonist is trying to defeat all sixteen colossi to revive his dead beloved - that's pretty much it. At times, trying to find the right way of taking down a colossus can be a bit overwhelming, and trying to climb back on a colossus for that one last hit can be tedious. There are some minor framerate problems here and there but nothing that takes away from the gameplay.
A few minor gripes can't take away the excitement this game has to offer - it offers A LOT. Shadow of the Colossus has to be one of the best PS2 games out there. I would recommend it to anyone.
What's great about it: unique gameplay, graphics and scenery, NO LOADING TIMES, array of weapons/items (unlock Time Battle Mode)
What's not so great: very common storyline, controls while riding the horse in battle, overall short playing time

What a Way to End the Saga
on July 24, 2008
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
This game was the only reason why I decided to pre-order the MGS4 Bundle before the release date, and I've finally decided to write a review about it.
In my opinion, this game has lived up to its hype. The graphics are stunning in HD, the voice acting is spot-on, the gameplay simply defines MGS4, and there are so many features and unlockables, there's no way you'll be able to access all of them even after you complete the game for your first time.
Some of the cutscenes are way too long, and it will get a little annoying after so many overly-dramatic ones - there was just a bit too much romance in the story. It also feels like you're playing the longest movie you'll ever watch.
I was very excited when I heard the release was going to be this summer; but I was suddenly, quickly disappointed when the creator, Hideo Kojima, said that the final product was not what he had envisioned. The game is running the Cell Broadband Processor to it's limit, which is astounding. He never said that he was not satisfied; in fact, he was very much satisified. But when Kojima Productions had planned to take this game forward, Kojima thought that they had only taken the first step. Unfortunately the PS3 is not powerful enough, and there are currently no Blu-ray discs that would have been able to meet Kojima's expectations. I guess he's waitng for the PlayStation 4 as well.
However, he has done a brilliant job, and I find it very difficult to give this game less than five stars.
What's great about it: excellent gameplay; so many features and UNLOCKABLES; incredible graphics
What's not so great: Hideo Kojima wanted to take this game 10 steps further; lengthy cutscenes (some can run for 30 min or longer)

For Hardcore [RPG] Gamers ONLY!
By FLYPino from The ATL
In a nutshell, Demon's Souls is one of the hardest, most frustrating, most aggravating, most unforgiving, yet....most rewarding games of all time.
Does this game make you wanna pull your hair out at times? Yes! Don't be surprised if you're bald by the end of the game.
Does this game make you wanna throw your DualShock 3 controller out the window? Yes! Don't be surprised when you find yourself purchasing more controllers just for this game.
Does this game offer hours of fun? Yes! This game is very challenging.
The hardest part of the game is at the beginning when you first start playing. You're new, you don't know exactly how the fighting mechanics work, you don't know the enemies' tendencies and movements, your weapons, shields, and yourself have poor stats (low Soul Level), and you have no miracles or magic.
The fighting mechanics is very in-depth. You can dual-wield weapons, shields, magic, etc. The better the armor, the heavier you become causing you to run slower. There are a lot of things to take into consideration when choosing what to equip and when to equip them.
This is where the game is unforgiving ---
I'm more of a defensive player who likes to conserve items a lot. It took me a little over 4 hours and maybe around 20 deaths to get past the first level.
You can't upgrade your stats and go to other levels until you beat the first demon. You can't learn new miracles and magic until you find certain people in different levels and help them.
There is NO PAUSING in the game. If you're in the middle of a sword fight or caught in the middle of a bunch of enemies, you better finish the fight and hope that you can hold from going to the bathroom before you put down the controller.
When you die, you have to start ALL THE WAY BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LEVEL or wherever you originally started after teleporting from the Nexus (hub). Also, you lose ALL the souls that you achieved. The only way to get them back is by getting back to the spot where you died and picking them back up. If you die again, they are gone for good.
For example, let's say it takes you about 30 minutes to get to this one part of a certain level. You have 1000 souls, and you get killed (some enemies can kill you with one blow). You start all the way back from the beginning. Now you have to go back to that point without dying. If you make it, you get your 1000 souls back plus the souls that you earned along the way. If you die before getting back those 1000 souls, you can't get them back. The only souls that you can get back are the last ones that you dropped.
Each enemy has a different amount of souls that they can offer you. The souls aren't necessarily their souls. They're more like a currency. For example, the first enemies you will encounter in the first level offer about 6-8 souls. The number of souls given by each defeated enemy will vary depending on their difficulty, which level you're playing, and the current World Tendency (*see note on World Tendency*). Some enemies can give hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of souls.
The souls that you earn are saved for purchasing items, weapon upgrades/repairs, stats upgrades, learning miracles and spells, etc.
***Do NOT use demons' souls (boss souls) for increasing your regular earned souls. Save them for miracles, magic, and weapon upgrades. I made the mistake on using a demon's soul and now I can't get a certain magic power until my next playthrough because I no longer have that demon's soul.***
This game is either a lot harder or somewhat easier if you're signed into the PlayStation Network. When you're online, other players can either invade your world (black phantoms) or aid you in your journey (white phantoms). And of course, you can be a black phantom or a white phantom, as well. I haven't played online, so I'm not going to get specific about online gameplay.
*World Tendency* --- Enemies are harder (therefore, offer more souls) the darker the world tendency and are easier (offer less souls) in lighter world tendencies. The tendency can be affected by killing non-playable characters (NPC's) and by the holiday depending on the developers' calendar (e.g. during Valentine's week, it was pure white world tendency for one half of the week and pure black world tendency for the other half. Black phantoms can also affect the world tendency.
Notes:
1) Some levels don't take as long as others to get to the demon.
2) Play smart. Don't think of this as a hack-and-slash-and-spam game. Take into consideration your stamina and magic bar.
3) I wouldn't recommend this game to those who have high blood pressure.
4) Have some patience. This game wasn't meant to be beaten in a week or two...or three. Expect around 80+ hours of gameplay.
5) Keep your fingers away from the attack buttons when you're near NPC's in the Nexus. If you accidentally kill the only person that can increase your stats, you're just asking for more trouble. How would you be able to upgrade?
6) Have some sort of strategy for each level according to the different enemies and how difficult they are. Weapons, shields, and magic are either more effective or less effective depending on the type of enemy.
7) Have fun! = ]

Follow-up Note on *World Tendency*
October 4, 2010
World Tendency can also be affected by killing a boss demon - there is an increase by one (+1). Dying in body form (except when in the Nexus) decreases world tendencies by one (-1), but dying in soul form does not affect world tendency. +3 is pure white world tendency, while -4 is pure black world tendency.
There is also character tendency.

Another Great Installment to the CoD Franchise
By FLYPino from The ATL
Call of Duty: World at War is a great FPS, but it's not perfect. This game deserves a rating anywhere between 4.0 and 4.5 stars.
Is this the best WWII FPS game currently out on the market? Sure.
Is this the best CoD game of the series? Maybe 2nd or 3rd best (with respect to this game as being the latest installment – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare being 1st and Call of Duty 2 being either 2nd or 3rd).
What makes this game great are its gameplay, graphics, intensity, co-op, and re-playability. There are plenty of details in the environments, making this game fun to play and fun to watch at the same time. The presentation is outstanding, and the game sounds amazing in surround sound. Weapon sounds, accuracies, and details are spot on.
The campaign has you playing from the points of view of the Americans and the Russians, but you probably won't care too much for the storyline. And every time you hear Kiefer Sutherland as Corporal Roebuck issue commands at your side, you won't be able to help but picture Jack Bauer in place of Corporal Roebuck.
Even though the missions are enjoyable and very well done, there is not as much variety compared to the previous installment. After about the fourth or fifth mission, the missions will seem overly repetitive. The two missions that stand out in front of the others are the sniper and tank missions. Otherwise, every other mission consists of “shooting the enemies as they pop out of cover, pushing forward, getting over the hill, ducking and covering, and trying to reach several checkpoints.” Enemies still continue to spawn if you don’t push forward, and some (very few) are out of place – they won’t shoot you, your comrades won’t shoot them, and they just stand there or do some idiotic retreat, making them the opposite of artificial “intelligence.”
However, all of this is made up for with the addicting multiplayer and unlockable “Na*i Zombies” game modes. The multiplayer is fun as with any FPS multiplayer game. Perks are automatically set for each weapon class and are not customizable. With "N*zi Zombies," you can play offline by yourself, with one other person on the same console, with two consoles and two players for each console (LAN party), or online with up to four other players. Teamwork is the key to success. The gameplay for "N. Zombies" is to simply defend yourself and your teammates as hordes of the undead break through windows and walls. Weapon upgrades and power-ups are practically necessary as the number of zombies, number of bullets needed to kill each zombie, and zombie invasion speed increases each level.
Overall, CoD: WaW has been another great addition to the franchise. It’s definitely worth giving a try.
