Doodling is Fun

My little brother plays this game, and he enjoys it.
You can create your character from scratch. From there, the objectives and levels of the game are similar to those of Super Mario games'...except that the setting is in Bikini Bottom.
Overall, it's a fun game for kids.
What's great about it: fun, price, SpongeBob
What's not so great: I find myself playing it at times...

Best Western Game, Yet
on August 18, 2011
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
Let me start off by saying that I'm not really a fan of Western [cowboy] films nor am I really interested in that genre. However, Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games out there for ANY genre within the gaming industry.
What makes this game great?
The campaign mode is a long story - long enough to keep you interested until the end, that is. There are side quests and random missions that can be completed by talking to strangers. There are plenty of different weapons (not only guns, but throwing knives, lassos, your fists, etc.) Shooting feels natural, especially with Dead Eye (a slow-motion ability that allows the player to pinpoint the exact location on an enemy's body of where the bullet is to be shot). The voice acting is really good. On a scale of 1 to 10, the voice acting is easily an 8 or close to a 9 (10 would be like the voice acting in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves). The environment is lush and full of the "proper ingredients" - the grass, leaves, and tumbleweeds sway with the wind; the water effects are very nice (looks real enough to touch); there are plenty of canyons and mountainous terrains, cacti, railroads, etc. The graphics, although not the most polished, looks really good because of the amount of detail within the game. The atmosphere makes the game really feel like early, undeveloped America with the saloons, gang hideouts, town settlements, etc. The weather is realistic. Clouds move, shadows shorten and lengthen when the sun rises and sets (which makes for beautiful sunsets), the moon actually provides lighting in dark places, and rain drops hit the camera screen when the screen is angled upward. The physics are pretty accurate. When you lasso someone and drag them along the ground while riding your horse, they move realistically depending on their impacts with the ground. The horses gallop and stride as they would in real life. Enemies fall realistically depending where they're shot and don't die right away if they're not shot in a vital area. There is a lot of different wildlife - all can be killed and skinned (including birds). There are different breeds of horses, and some are faster, have more stamina, or have more health depending on the specific breed.
Do you wanna be a bandit?
Go ahead and hogtie someone, leave them on the railroad track, and watch as their blood splatters on the TV screen as they get run over by a train. Be careful, for if any witnesses see you perform any criminal act, they will report you to the law, and a bounty will be placed on you. Hilariously enough, you can always bribe a witness or give a pardon letter to any telegram office.
Do you wanna go hunting for grizzly bears?
Well, there's some in the snow-covered forests. If you can't find any, at first, just shoot your gun. They'll come... Sometimes, you won't notice them until they're really close.
Do you wanna be a bounty hunter?
Check the nearest town for WANTED posters. You get paid for every successful bounty mission (more money if you bring the suspect back alive).
Wanna see who's the fastest gunslinger in the West?
People may challenge you to duels. It's fun, it's intense, and it's bada**.
There are several mini-games including Five-Finger Filet, Blackjack, Poker, Liar's Dice, and Horseshoes. The player can spend hours on these mini-games alone. If you cheat in these mini-games, someone might challenge you to a duel if they catch you doing so.
There are also plenty of things to see and be aware of in this game. You'll see law enforcement agents trying to capture criminals on the run. You'll meet people on the road who need help (or those that will try to trick you and pretend that they need help, who will then steal your horse, rob you, or try to kill you). You'll see wild animals (wolves, boars, mountain lions, etc.) attacking innocent people who are far away from the nearest town. You'll see gang shootouts and robberies. You'll even see drunk men trying to keep themselves up after walking out of saloons. You can get drunk yourself, as well.
What's not all that great?
Traversing across the various lengths of terrain will seem tedious. You'll do it enough times where you'll finally decide to use the "instant transport" system. Find a place where the game will allow you to set up camp, and travel to towns more efficiently by selecting which town you would like to travel to rather than having you and your horse take ten minutes to get from one place to another (although your horse's stamina does improve the longer you keep it and the longer you travel).
The interaction with other people is very limited, which makes them feel almost robotic and lifeless - there is almost no interaction (unless it's a cut-scene - where you have no control of the player, anyway) other than the "Hi, how are you?" or "Evening, ma'am." or "What's goin' on, partner?" and other forms of greetings.
The hand-to-hand combat mechanics could use more work - you block, dodge, and punch. There's the occasional ground tackle which can be followed up by a not-so-aggressive "ground n' pound" - you can get about two to four punches with the right hand while you're on top of the enemy, but that's it.
The only glitch I can actually remember is when the horse might do a super jump, but it's rare and probably depends on where you're trying to jump and what you're trying to jump over.
Can you go fishing? No. You could care less.
Can you go swimming? No. The player will die instantly if he's more than waist-deep in any body of water.
Are there any more missions to complete after beating the main campaign? Yes, but these are only side quests. However, there is one particular "side mission" that actually "ends the entire main story." The credits start rolling once this mission is completed, but the game can still be continued after that point.
As for the multi-player part of this game, you can form posses, shoot others when they least suspect it, free roam just like in the single-player mode, establish gang hideouts, earn experience points and level up, play mini-games, race, etc.
Again, there is just too much to do in this game.
All in all, Red Dead Redemption deserves no less than five stars. I'll give it a 9.5 out of 10. No regrets here. This is definitely a game to have in your collection.
What's great about it: almost everything
What's not so great: too long of a review...

There's not much to review here.
The funds are added into your PlayStation Network "wallet" as soon as the code is entered. Just follow the instructions on the back of the card.
I've never wanted to use a credit card online (and I'm glad that I didn't, especially since PSN was hacked), and this card works as it should.
If you need to purchase items from the PlayStation store, your best bet is to get a PlayStation Network card.
And the best part of it all...
*YOU GET REWARD ZONE POINTS IF YOU PURCHASE THIS CARD AT BEST BUY!*
Do you get any Reward Zone points with a direct credit card payment to the PlayStation store? (Well, unless it's a Best Buy credit card...)

What's great about it: Reward Zone eligibility, safer than online credit card

An Assassin Worth Hiring; A Game Worth Buying
on July 26, 2011
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
I must say that Assassin's Creed II is a great game. It's not perfect, but it's very well put together.
The one thing that will stand out the most in this game is the attention to detail of famous and major buildings in the parts of Italy that this game covers. And the best part of it all - you can fully scale these behemoth towers and jump off, safely diving into a wagon (or pile) of hay or leaves. The landing may not be too realistic, because the piles, at least in reality, would not be big enough for anyone to survive - they would go straight through the pile and hit the ground...killing themselves...instantly.
But that's why this is a game, and that's why we don't try to emulate these games in our real lives...for the most part.
The storyline is not necessarily original, but it's the proper storyline for this game. Free-running, especially if this is the first Assassin's Creed you're going to play, may seem a bit difficult to grasp at first. It won't feel natural. However, after the first few hours, it will almost feel second-nature.
You can wall-run/climb on almost anything as long as the main character, Ezio Auditore (da Firenze), can grab something with his hands if he can't reach the top in one single bound. If Ezio can reach the top of a wall within a single leap, then he can just pull himself over (after continuing a free-run control), or he can just hold on (useful for stealth attacks).
The gameplay is this game's bread and butter. Sometimes, a game's B&B will be it's graphics while having mediocre gameplay. The graphics of ACII are not the most polished ones in the gaming industry, but again, the amount and level of detail associated with each area in the game more than makes up for it.
Fighting mechanics are fluid, especially the countering of enemy attacks - it's almost too easy. Surprisingly, it's not really the timing, for as long as you counter while the enemy performs an attack move and before the attack hits you, the counter will register almost every time, no matter how early you decide to counter. When you are surrounded by ten or more enemies, countering will prove to be more useful rather than the continuous spamming of the attack button.
There are plenty of weapons in the game, all designed uniquely and with each its own strength and weakness. These weapons range anywhere from long swords, daggers, clubs, spears, throwing knives, a hand gun, sleeve-hidden daggers, smoke bombs, and even money (for distraction).
As for assassination techniques, stealth is highly encouraged, and some (very few) missions require Ezio to remain undetected (or the mission will restart from the last checkpoint).
To remain undetected, the game implements a camouflage technique that involves Ezio blending in with the crowd. Walking, compared to running, will also keep Ezio less noticeable. You can also hire thieves or courtesans for distraction, and mercenaries can help you during battle, as well.
Armor and weapon upgrades (available through purchasing from a blacksmith) will become unlocked after completing specific missions, after upgrading areas surrounding the Auditore villa, and/or after finding different items within Italy.
There are plenty of side missions available even after the main story has been completed (races against thieves, assassination contracts, finding treasure chests, defending citizens, etc.).
I haven't played the first Assassin's Creed and probably never will considering the number of reviews that I've read about it. According to those reviews, this game is a major improvement from the first.
I'm happy with my choice, and I'm happy with this game. Assassin's Creed II is a game that shouldn't be passed up within the Assassin's Creed series. I'd recommend it to anyone... - anyone old enough and mature enough to handle it.
What's great about it: price, length, amount of detail, creativity, fun
What's not so great: free-running can be glitchy

Resistance: FoM = Unique; R2 = Not So Much
on July 25, 2011
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
This review will be based on my separate purchases of these games. I had already done a review of Resistance: Fall of Man, but not on Resistance 2 (the "Write a Review" option for a product is no longer available on Best Buy's website once that product has been pulled from the website).
Resistance: Fall of Man ---
*(pretty much copied and pasted from my original review of the game)*
I bought this game because I was curious to see what the Resistance franchise was all about. I found out that it's pretty darn impressive, at least for this first title.
This game is just a whole lot of fun to play. I played through the campaign mode (offline co-op available) with my younger brother, and we enjoyed it. There's replay value because new weapons are unlocked in the next play-through.
I have not played the multiplayer part, because not many people play this game online, anymore.
The controls may seem a little iffy if you're used to Call of Duty, but you can customize each button instead of having to stick with pre-set button layouts, which is great. The game does have several pre-set button layouts, but if none of them seem to work for you, just create your own.
The campaign is pretty long. The developers were very creative with how you progress through the main story, the enemies, and the weapons and grenades - they're a lot of fun to play with.
Overall, this is a great game. It's a lot of fun when you play it with a friend.
Resistance 2 ---
This game is a great sequel, but it takes a step backward rather than a step forward (e.g. offline co-op is no longer available and online co-op does not involve the main campaign - more of a "side campaign").
There have been improvements on the graphics - they are more polished. However, they are a little more "shaded," so to speak, which makes some areas too dark even if the setting of a level is during the daytime.
The weapons are still cool and look better, but you are now limited to one primary and one secondary weapon (no more weapon wheel). This can make the game seem more realistic, but, at the same time, it can take away the creativity involving different ways of defeating the enemies.
There are a few new weapons and some updates on the old ones. Notice how I typed "updates" and not "upgrades" because one of my favorite weapons, the Bullseye, shoots faster but has less ammo in the clip... - SHOOTS FASTER but has LESS AMMO in each clip?! Does that make any sense?!?
This time, the chimera are faster but not necessarily smarter. There are some parts of the game where the chimera will try to bum rush you. Sometimes, it makes for great action gameplay and a good testing of the reflexes. Sometimes, it makes for headache and frustration. =P
The levels are still pretty long and are a lot larger, and you now have the option to sprint...infinitely. There is no more health bar. Player health is now the generic "I see flashing red on my screen. I should hide and wait for my health to replenish automatically." This takes a little bit of the strategic challenge out of the game.
Multiplayer is fun (up to 60 players on a single map) but can be hectic (up to...60 players...on a single...map... - exactly). Surprisingly, there is almost a seamless transition between each match. Give that server a try, and see if you like it. Otherwise, you can always create your own.
Also, two players can play online on the same screen as long as both users have PlayStation Network accounts. This is fun, too...until one person has to change weapons, in which the entire screen has been filled up, making the other player unable to see what they're doing. Do you know what happens when there are 58 other people playing especially when "friendly fire" is enabled? You might as well put down your controller if it takes your teammate a while to choose a weapon.
This game, in my opinion, has gone generic compared to the first title. Don't get me wrong. It's still fun and still worth trying as a continuation of the Resistance series. It's just not my ideal sequel.
Overall ---
I give this bundle 5 stars. Resistance: Fall of Man deserves 5 stars; Resistance 2 deserves 4 stars at the most.
What's great about it: fun, co-op, price, campaign length, multiplayer
What's not so great: went from original to generic, graphics

Best CoD Game So Far
on March 21, 2011
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is definitely one of the best modern shooters of this era.
What sets this game apart from the other games in the franchise and apart from the countless other FPS games out there?
PRESENTATION. The presentation of CoD4 deserves a gold star. The transition from mission to mission is almost seamless, creating an exciting, well-understood, and well-formatted storyline. The weapon models are replicated very well. They sound and shoot just as they would in reality.
In my opinion, the single-player campaign of CoD4 far outshines that of World at War and Modern Warfare 2 (I have not played the single-player campaign of Black Ops nor do I have the intention of buying that game because the presentation by Infinity Ward is much better than Treyarch's - no fanboy-ism intended). Whereas the missions in WaW were repetitive and those of MW2 were sometimes too arcade-like, the missions in CoD4 are more plausible and are more varied.
The only problem is the multiplayer mode. There is no match-making nor are there any host migrations. This means that you could be playing with people from Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. causing you to lag significantly. And if you are randomly chosen as the host while having a not-so-fast internet speed (especially when you have to connect to other parts of the world), the match will not even start. Instead, it will conclude the match as a draw right from the beginning before it goes back to intermission and selecting a new map. It will continue to process you as the host until you leave that specific lobby.
The reason why this error has not been fixed is because more attention is focused towards the multiplayer modes of WaW, MW2, and Black Ops.
WaW picked up on this flaw and had their matches restart after finding the best host. MW2 picked up on this flaw even further by including a host migration so that matches would not have to be restarted from the beginning.
Recommendation: Buy this game for the single-player campaign, but buy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the online multiplayer mode.
What's great about it: presentation, gameplay, graphics, fun
What's not so great: lack of co-op, online multiplayer (nowadays)

The Karate Kid (2010) is a wonderful film for the whole family to enjoy. This package comes with a Blu-ray disc with the film playing in 1080p HD, a DVD copy, and a digital copy (a feature on the DVD) to put into your iPod or other mp3/mp4 player.
The storyline is very similar to the original 1984 film. The acting is very good. Jaden Smith is very convincing with his emotions in the film. The battle sequences look brutal (more realistic) compared to the original. Cinematography is top-notch. The film is over two hours long.
With parents of fairly younger viewers, here is the link to a parents' guide of the film:

Another Great Installment to the CoD Franchise
on December 15, 2010
Posted by: FLYPino
from The ATL
Call of Duty: World at War is a great FPS, but it's not perfect. This game deserves a rating anywhere between 4.0 and 4.5 stars.
Is this the best WWII FPS game currently out on the market? Sure.
Is this the best CoD game of the series? Maybe 2nd or 3rd best (with respect to this game as being the latest installment – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare being 1st and Call of Duty 2 being either 2nd or 3rd).
What makes this game great are its gameplay, graphics, intensity, co-op, and re-playability. There are plenty of details in the environments, making this game fun to play and fun to watch at the same time. The presentation is outstanding, and the game sounds amazing in surround sound. Weapon sounds, accuracies, and details are spot on.
The campaign has you playing from the points of view of the Americans and the Russians, but you probably won't care too much for the storyline. And every time you hear Kiefer Sutherland as Corporal Roebuck issue commands at your side, you won't be able to help but picture Jack Bauer in place of Corporal Roebuck.
Even though the missions are enjoyable and very well done, there is not as much variety compared to the previous installment. After about the fourth or fifth mission, the missions will seem overly repetitive. The two missions that stand out in front of the others are the sniper and tank missions. Otherwise, every other mission consists of “shooting the enemies as they pop out of cover, pushing forward, getting over the hill, ducking and covering, and trying to reach several checkpoints.” Enemies still continue to spawn if you don’t push forward, and some (very few) are out of place – they won’t shoot you, your comrades won’t shoot them, and they just stand there or do some idiotic retreat, making them the opposite of artificial “intelligence.”
However, all of this is made up for with the addicting multiplayer and unlockable “Na*i Zombies” game modes. The multiplayer is fun as with any FPS multiplayer game. Perks are automatically set for each weapon class and are not customizable. With "N*zi Zombies," you can play offline by yourself, with one other person on the same console, with two consoles and two players for each console (LAN party), or online with up to four other players. Teamwork is the key to success. The gameplay for "N. Zombies" is to simply defend yourself and your teammates as hordes of the undead break through windows and walls. Weapon upgrades and power-ups are practically necessary as the number of zombies, number of bullets needed to kill each zombie, and zombie invasion speed increases each level.
Overall, CoD: WaW has been another great addition to the franchise. It’s definitely worth giving a try.
What's great about it: price, gameplay, graphics, co-op, re-playability, fun
What's not so great: linear, spawning enemies

I've been playing NBA 2K games since NBA 2K6. Why was I starting to have déjà vu as I was playing this game?
Because THIS GAME IS THE PS2 VERSION OF NBA 2K6 WITH AN UPDATED ROSTER AND SOUNDTRACK...THAT'S IT!
Let's start off with the good...
*crickets chirping*
And now, let's get on to the bad.
There is screen tearing on the court as you're playing; it feels like an arcade game even if you set the game to play as a simulation; close-up shots hit the rim (instead of the player releasing the ball so that it goes up and around the rim, it goes straight up, hits the rim, and comes straight back down); blocking shots is a cakewalk even on Hall of Fame; NBA 2K6 on the PS2 has better graphics; the PSP version of this game is worth $9.99 at the most; if I were to recommend this game to a friend, they would no longer see me as a friend.
I enjoy NBA 2K11 so much on a console, so I thought, "Why not take it on the go?" Apparently, I found out the hard way.
What's great about it: updated roster and soundtrack(?)... >_>
What's not so great: DEFINITELY not even worth $20
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Turn Up the Music, DJ!
on November 2, 2010

DJ Hero has become an instant classic because of its catchy music mash-ups. We've all heard songs from Queen, Daft Punk, Eminem, Rick James, Marvin Gaye, 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, the Beastie Boys, Tears for Fears, etc.
Now, try combining together two songs from any of those artists. At first, you'd probably think, "Wait...that just wouldn't sound good..."
And then DJ Hero just blasts you away with their creativity! The game is just fun to play! You won't be ashamed to play any of these songs at a club or party.
The game can be VERY challenging especially with the spikes (you quickly have to move the crossfader in one direction and then back to the center which can happen in one quick beat, but this depends on the difficulty setting). Personally, I think that the expert level on this game is way harder compared to the expert level on any Guitar Hero game from the series.
The turntable is great. The buttons are pretty solid, and the rotation is very smooth. The crossfader is also very smooth, but the plastic it's made out of feels cheap. Overall, the turntable has a good feel to it. It can be used by both left-handed and right-handed players.
*The only reason I give the "Value for Price" rating a 5/5 is because I got it on sale when it was $39.99 - both the game and the turntable at that price was a great deal!
What's great about it: price, easy to set up, fun, creative mash-ups
What's not so great: crossfader doesn't feel sturdy
I would recommend this to a friend!

For Hardcore [RPG] Gamers ONLY!
By FLYPino from The ATL
In a nutshell, Demon's Souls is one of the hardest, most frustrating, most aggravating, most unforgiving, yet....most rewarding games of all time.
Does this game make you wanna pull your hair out at times? Yes! Don't be surprised if you're bald by the end of the game.
Does this game make you wanna throw your DualShock 3 controller out the window? Yes! Don't be surprised when you find yourself purchasing more controllers just for this game.
Does this game offer hours of fun? Yes! This game is very challenging.
The hardest part of the game is at the beginning when you first start playing. You're new, you don't know exactly how the fighting mechanics work, you don't know the enemies' tendencies and movements, your weapons, shields, and yourself have poor stats (low Soul Level), and you have no miracles or magic.
The fighting mechanics is very in-depth. You can dual-wield weapons, shields, magic, etc. The better the armor, the heavier you become causing you to run slower. There are a lot of things to take into consideration when choosing what to equip and when to equip them.
This is where the game is unforgiving ---
I'm more of a defensive player who likes to conserve items a lot. It took me a little over 4 hours and maybe around 20 deaths to get past the first level.
You can't upgrade your stats and go to other levels until you beat the first demon. You can't learn new miracles and magic until you find certain people in different levels and help them.
There is NO PAUSING in the game. If you're in the middle of a sword fight or caught in the middle of a bunch of enemies, you better finish the fight and hope that you can hold from going to the bathroom before you put down the controller.
When you die, you have to start ALL THE WAY BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LEVEL or wherever you originally started after teleporting from the Nexus (hub). Also, you lose ALL the souls that you achieved. The only way to get them back is by getting back to the spot where you died and picking them back up. If you die again, they are gone for good.
For example, let's say it takes you about 30 minutes to get to this one part of a certain level. You have 1000 souls, and you get killed (some enemies can kill you with one blow). You start all the way back from the beginning. Now you have to go back to that point without dying. If you make it, you get your 1000 souls back plus the souls that you earned along the way. If you die before getting back those 1000 souls, you can't get them back. The only souls that you can get back are the last ones that you dropped.
Each enemy has a different amount of souls that they can offer you. The souls aren't necessarily their souls. They're more like a currency. For example, the first enemies you will encounter in the first level offer about 6-8 souls. The number of souls given by each defeated enemy will vary depending on their difficulty, which level you're playing, and the current World Tendency (*see note on World Tendency*). Some enemies can give hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of souls.
The souls that you earn are saved for purchasing items, weapon upgrades/repairs, stats upgrades, learning miracles and spells, etc.
***Do NOT use demons' souls (boss souls) for increasing your regular earned souls. Save them for miracles, magic, and weapon upgrades. I made the mistake on using a demon's soul and now I can't get a certain magic power until my next playthrough because I no longer have that demon's soul.***
This game is either a lot harder or somewhat easier if you're signed into the PlayStation Network. When you're online, other players can either invade your world (black phantoms) or aid you in your journey (white phantoms). And of course, you can be a black phantom or a white phantom, as well. I haven't played online, so I'm not going to get specific about online gameplay.
*World Tendency* --- Enemies are harder (therefore, offer more souls) the darker the world tendency and are easier (offer less souls) in lighter world tendencies. The tendency can be affected by killing non-playable characters (NPC's) and by the holiday depending on the developers' calendar (e.g. during Valentine's week, it was pure white world tendency for one half of the week and pure black world tendency for the other half. Black phantoms can also affect the world tendency.
Notes:
1) Some levels don't take as long as others to get to the demon.
2) Play smart. Don't think of this as a hack-and-slash-and-spam game. Take into consideration your stamina and magic bar.
3) I wouldn't recommend this game to those who have high blood pressure.
4) Have some patience. This game wasn't meant to be beaten in a week or two...or three. Expect around 80+ hours of gameplay.
5) Keep your fingers away from the attack buttons when you're near NPC's in the Nexus. If you accidentally kill the only person that can increase your stats, you're just asking for more trouble. How would you be able to upgrade?
6) Have some sort of strategy for each level according to the different enemies and how difficult they are. Weapons, shields, and magic are either more effective or less effective depending on the type of enemy.
7) Have fun! = ]

Follow-up Note on *World Tendency*
October 4, 2010
World Tendency can also be affected by killing a boss demon - there is an increase by one (+1). Dying in body form (except when in the Nexus) decreases world tendencies by one (-1), but dying in soul form does not affect world tendency. +3 is pure white world tendency, while -4 is pure black world tendency.
There is also character tendency.

Another Great Installment to the CoD Franchise
By FLYPino from The ATL
