Little thing packs a punch
on July 4, 2019

I’m pretty big into portable speakers, always trying to find the latest and greatest without breaking the bank. My big thing is loudness and power. Using a speaker outdoors is pointless if it gets drowned out by simple and basic surrounding noises. Anything you have to TRY to hear or listen to is not enjoyable, especially when at a pool and the environment noise levels are elevated. Aside from power, the next thing I look for is battery life/charging. A portable speaker having a micro-usb charging port is the most amazing thing because you can add a battery pack and BOOM! Hours more power of listening.

Well I’m impressed because this little softball sized speaker has both! This circular design has a nice 360 degree sound so no worrying about angling the speaker in the right direction for best sound. This thing is super portable and easy to use. It has a loop so you can clip it on to a backpack, bike, etc… On top of the size and portability, its claims to have 13 hours of playtime. I haven’t tried to drain the battery in one full battery charge but I’ve used it several times without charge and still packs a punch, which leads me to my next impression…this thing can get loud. I used it in an open garage while working with power tools and just over half volume was plenty to hear it in there. It also has an outdoor boost mode which takes it up an extra decibel for better hearing when outdoors or in a noisier situation.
Some of the specs of this speaker include up to 87dB in sound, around 2.5 hour charge time, up to 100 FT Bluetooth connection, ability to connect multiple speakers together, and IP67 rating which makes it great for pools!
The only thing that I wasn’t big on was the placement of the buttons. Up top there is what appears to be hidden buttons. 3 in total, the big one I would have thought would have been power since its probably going to be the most used but its for Play Control (Pause/Play). The other 2 are smaller nearly hidden, one is for power and the other for Bluetooth. Hard to distinguish and not very intuitive. Then at the bottom is the Outdoor Boost button which a tree logo, also not the most intuitive. The two buttons that are clear and understandable are the large volume buttons on the side, which can’t be missed.
Overall I’m very happy with this speaker sound quality, sound levels, and outdoor/weather compatibility. I mean technically you can dunk this thing under water for half an hour and it still work fine (probably won’t be testing that anytime soon). They have a sporty look to them too which is nice. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for portable and long-lasting music.

Great product to have!

When I got this antenna, it didn’t come with the amplifier for whatever reason that said was included. I reached out to customer service and they were very helpful and promptly got it out to me. What a big difference it makes though!
I tried the antenna first in my bedroom (without the amp) and didn’t get much success with channels. Most channels were blocky and not playing smoothly. Understandable as the antenna couldn’t make it near a window and I’m in the back of the house.
Then I tried in the living room which is a much more open area, still not by a window but stretch it out close to the back door. I managed to scan 34 channels from the auto-tune feature on my tv. Most channels play decently, some were blocky. When I received the amp, I ran the auto-tune again and it pulled up 56 channels! Very impressive that a little usb plug-in power injector could make such a difference! I got more local channels, and a set of channels that were struggling with now came in clearly. Not all 56 channels were perfect, a few still struggled, but I am impressed with the quality on some of the channels and all for free!
I never realized there were so many free channels available, and especially didn’t realize how many foreign channels there lol. Very good to have if you are looking to cut the cord and want to watch live tv in remote areas. I was inspired to get an antenna last year because some friends brought a tv out on the boat and were able to watch live football on the lake, very nice. This is a great one-time investment that I recommend anyone who thinks they can get some use out of it, should get. Some channels looked really good, others looked average. Better than the standard definition quality I pay from the cable company for sure.
Hope to get an extension coax cable to get the antenna to reach a better position to gain more channels though, but for now I have plenty of options!

Good, not Great
on June 1, 2019

This printer was not quite what I was expecting. I’m very familiar with printers as I’ve set dozens of them up throughout my life. I know HP to be a top brand in printers. I typically always lean towards business products because they seem to be more reliable than consumer ones. However, I wasn’t quite that impressed with this printer.
My first impression of the printer was it feels kind of cheap. Not unusual for printers these days, but the plastic seems cheap and breakable and the parts don’t move that smoothly (Tray, extensions, printer cover). I know a percentage of the plastic is recycled which is great, but I feel like there could have been some better design and quality in it. Next, during the setup process after installing the ink which is straight forward, it wanted to print a test alignment page and then scan it to calibrate the headers. Well I made sure paper was in it and continued with the calibration. It acted like it printed but nothing came out, then it was asking for the next step to scan but I had nothing to scan. I had to reboot the printer and start the process over, this time it printed but it sucked up like 5 sheets of paper in the print. The print came out good except for the end of the paper printed on the other 4 sheets. Scanned and it said it was successful.
The device is USB direct, Ethernet, or wireless connection which is nice for options. I used wifi as a temporary connection which I strongly dislike to use with printers as it always seems to cause problems at some point, but so far its working well. Scanned a document that came out nice. One thing I’m not a fan of is the interface. I’m more old school and like to install a software package where it installs the printer driver and any scanning software on your pc. Well here they have their own container of software. You can use your phone, tablet, or PC. I installed the HP software on my pc and it still didn’t add the printer to Windows, I had to go through a manual process to add it in Windows which may be a struggle or hassle for many people who aren’t that familiar with computers. HP seems to tout their software as all you need, but I’m not a fan of it. They have an option to open up their software, select “Print Documents” and it pops up a Window to find your files to print. No thanks, I like printing from inside my documents.
The scanning seems okay. You can scan from the PC or directly from the printer, however their fancy software doesn’t setup Windows properly for it. If you can from the printer and I select my PC to scan to, Windows pops up options for WSD Scan Device. I select Scan from the list of 4 items, it scans, and then opens up my Libraries folder not knowing where the scan went. Not very good IMO. You can open up the HP Smart app on your PC to scan which works fine. You can preview, then save as pdf or jpg, and save, print, or share it.
There are a lot of potential features such as cloud printing or printing from any device anywhere. Like I said, I’m more old school and like a straight forward printer that makes my life easy so I won’t be using much of the cloud features but I did try the scan and print feature from my iPhone while connected to wifi which was pretty nice. I was impressed it worked as well as it did. The printer also comes with an “8 months of ink”, which is basically a $40 prepaid card for their ink delivery service ($5/month for 100 pages Instant Ink plan) and appears to be an automatic process with your printer ordering it for you.
Overall, I wasn’t a big fan of this printer initially because of the quality and it not appear to be working correctly at first with the printing but it has seemed to do better in the few days since. The print quality seems good and the scan quality seems decent. I’ll update the review once I’ve had more extended time to get a better experience with it.

A lock I've always wanted
on May 22, 2019

First off, I have to say I have been wanting something like this for awhile! I looked into the Amazon options originally but the reviews just weren’t there and the features seemed limited and the products didn’t look very good. Lockly provided everything I looked for in a keyless lock.
This deadbolt is not only secure but super convenient. Its always been a pain having to shuffle my keys out of my pocket at night and try to use what little light I had available to figure which one to use, especially while carrying my work items and gym bag. Now this convenience is priceless! So onto the good stuff, this deadbolt has a nice responsive touch screen. Install was fairly straight forward especially since they include an optional visual tutorial (through the Bilt app) that provides a step by step for installing along with standard instruction manual. The total install time was around 2 hours. This was a relaxed easy pace install I did and included the phone and entry code setup.
So lets look at the different ways you can open this lock. First off, you have a traditional key option. You are provided with 2 physical keys. Great to have as an emergency, even though I’m sure you’ll never need them. Next you have the Lockly app which allows you to unlock the door. Then you have the nice keypad you can enter your personal access code. This is great because you can have a permanent trusted user, you can have a guest code that has a limited time access, and you have a one time code option you can generate for someone. Then on top of that you have a fingerprint reader! This is my favorite as I don’t have to open my phone or push a bunch of buttons. I just walk up to my door and place my finger on the side and boom it opens! Its nice to have options though. Oh, and you can use Alexa or Google Home to open it as well. The door comes with an optional door sensor that will know if the door is open or closed and you will need to add it to use these devices. “Hey google, unlock the front door!” You will need to provide google a passcode to do this, but not to lock it. This way someone on the other side of the door doesn’t yell in commands to open the door without knowing the code. Very nice feature if you don’t have your phone on the couch and want to unlock the door.
The deadbolt connects through wifi and through Bluetooth. The deadbolt its is pretty sturdy and quality made. Packaging is nice and modern. Having roommates and regular friends visit makes this amazing to use. You don’t even need a house key anymore. The app has setting options to do things like set an auto-lock after the door has been unlocked, receive notifications when the door sensor has been tripped (opened), and allows for firmware updates so possible new features may be released in the future.
My only con/issue I had with the deadbolt is the auto-lock feature. For some reason there is no setting for it to check if the door is closed before locking (assuming you have the door sensor installed). So if the door is left open for whatever reason it’ll just extend the deadbolt. Not a big deal but in my case I was going in and out of the house one day bringing in groceries and I would partially close the door as I was coming in and out and the auto-lock kicked on while it was halfway closed and the bolt got jammed against the wood frame. Can’t imagine that’s good for the motor, it had a weird clicking noise that wouldn’t go away by manually opening and closing the lock but I had to motor close it and open it to fix it. Just seems like it would be an easy fix to do with an update, definitely not enough to take away a star.
Overall we love this thing. You have many ways to get into your house. It provides a nice modern look to whatever door you add it to and I can’t imagine ever going back to a traditional deadbolt after this. If you’re on the fence, get this! You won’t be disappointed.

Good radios but not Business Pro good
on May 13, 2019

These radios are pretty decent, I don’t know if I’d classify them as Pro Business but good for recreational use. They are a great portable size and fairly easy to use. Setup was pretty simple but getting the batteries back were a little tedious after connecting the cable, luckly it only needs to be done once (at least for awhile). Battery life is good, easily lasted us all day. The fact that they recharageable is great! Comes with a charging cradle for both handsets or you can use the micro-usb cable to charge an individual handset. I like the fact that it doesn’t have a proprietary cable since most people have a micro-usb laying around if needed.
The belt clips are a nice addition, was able to clip it to a basket on my atv as I roamed our property. It has 22 channels with 121 Privacy Codes (38 CTCSS/83DCS codes) and a VOX mode which is used to automatically pick up your voice and start transmitting without the need of holding the “talk” button down. I didn’t use this feature as I’m old school and like to hold the talk button down plus I’m never sure how much background noise is going to be transmitted.
The clarity and signal seemed to be good, but definitely don’t expect 23 miles for the maximum distance. Not really sure how they come up with these numbers, must be in an empty flat desert, however within a reasonable area you should be fine.
I think these would be great to use in larger places like a mall, or when camping or in areas with low cell phone reception, or a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean.
Overall they are a great size, rechargeable, and work well as long as you’re with reasonable distance or don’t have too much interference such as a lot of buildings in-between the 2 radios, I feel like the 23 mile range could be quite misleading.

Not just for gamers
on February 2, 2019

All I can say is Wow! I spend hours a day for the past 25 years on the computer and always invested in Logitech keyboards because, they’re always gave me what I wanted. I had no idea what I was missing out on, at least until now. However, my previous keyboard was also a mechanical keyboard I got from Online. My Logitech bit the dust, and I found an inexpensive keyboard to quickly replace mine. I heard a lot of hype with “mechanical” keyboards so I went with it. Well it was Okay, didn’t have the volume features that I’ve become attached to on the keyboard, the back lights were a little too much and I had to be sure to turn them off once I went to bed otherwise, it lights up the room at night.
Well I got this keyboard and my first impression is it looks gorgeous! I mean for the price point, its what you expect, but dang it was nice and sleek. First thing I noticed was the extra USB port available along with an aux cord built in, which no other keyboard I’ve owned has had and it works out great so I don’t have to plug my mouse across the desk into my usb hub anymore, which caused problems of it getting stuck and having to annoyingly “tug” it on occasion. It came with a super comfortable and easy to attach hand rest for your palm, its magnetic. You can raise the keyboard to two separate levels or have it lay flat, whatever your preference is.
Once I plugged in it came to life, my Windows 10 automatically picked it up and somehow loaded a screen for Razer automatically giving me options for settings and to download the Synapse software…Very impressed at this point. The backlit color of the keys is very smooth and easy on the eyes and slowly changes colors by default, unlike my last keyboard which seemed very bold and almost distracting. There are several options for the lighting based on the profile you choose. I got back my audio controls on the keyboard, kind of wish the inner part was lit up (can’t see the play symbols for play, fwd, rwd) but its pretty obvious which one is which. Volume control is a dial and you push the inner button to mute it. The mechanical keyboard is somehow how much smoother than my last one, almost creating a pleasant typing experience. They claim you can stroke the keys 80 million times, so I’m hoping this will be the last keyboard I own!
There are a lot of details I could cover, especially for gamers, but chances are any gamer will know it before buying it. But like I said, this isn’t just for gamers. I don’t game nearly as much as I used, and using this keyboard for my daily or work tasks is amazing and feels great. If you’re one of those people like me that spends a couple of hours a day on the computer for whatever reason, you owe it to yourself to get a premium feeling keyboard, you definitely won’t regret it! I honestly look forward to typing on this keyboard now. This would be a great gift for anyone as well.

Fantastic Coffee Maker. I drink more coffee now
on December 2, 2018
Posted by: Jp223
from Houston, Tx
I’ve previously used a coffee maker I bought at Walmart for the past 8 years to compare with this one. I spent around $25-30 on that one, so how good can a coffee maker really be, especially one this expensive? I mean it just pours hot water over coffee grinds basically. I’ve been using this one a couple of weeks now, almost daily and here is my review:
To start off, it’s a very nice looking coffee maker. Modern look with a simplicity touch. 3 buttons plus your hour/minute buttons. It made my kitchen look much better than “Mr Coffee” did.
Next, I noticed it uses a different coffee filter than what I’m used to, it uses cones (#4) instead of the standard filter. Not sure if this makes a difference, but wow the coffee somehow tastes so much better out of this! The day before I made coffee out of my old coffee maker, it almost tasted watered down. The next day when I first used this, it was like night and day. I didn’t even use the “Strong” option on this, I still haven’t quite figured out what Strong does (aside from technically making it stronger?), but the coffee was delicious. I was baffled on how this was possible. I use the same coffee brand, same quantity of grinds, and same water amount as before. I loved it!
On top of the better quality of java it made, there is a true no drip system to it! My last coffee maker technically had a no drip system but it always did and I used to have to tilt my carafe at an angle to help drain some of the extras fluids so it wouldn’t drip on the heating plate. In the approximate 20 times I’ve used this coffee maker, not one drop has fallen! I’m still not used to it. Then the carafe seems much better not spilling any coffee when pouring. Again, with my last coffee maker I used to have to pour it over the sink because sometimes the coffee would pour down the outside of the carafe no matter how careful I was most of the time, this was something I read in reviews when I bought it and just accepted it. This carafe does not have that problem whatsoever! There is one downside to this carafe, when you are trying to pour the last little bit of coffee out of the carafe into your cup, the lid opens and the remaining coffee spills out and burns your hand. This has happened to me twice. Basically its hard to get the last little bit of coffee out unless you can hold the lid down while pouring it.
Added features are that the burner heats for 4 hours versus my previous maker of 2 hours and if you hold the Hour button down after the coffee has been made it tells you how long ago the coffee finished brewing. Very handy, especially if you’re picky on the age of the brew! Another nice feature is the coffee maker beeps when it has completed brewing so you know when you can get the freshest cup possible. The delayed brew also works like a charm and is easy to use.
Overall this is a fantastic coffee maker that I’m in love with. The only downside is pouring the last little bit without getting it to spill out of the carafe. The price also seems a little steep for a basic (but nice) coffee maker. I’d expect wifi/Alexa compatibility to be added for this price range, but if you don’t mind spending the money its def worth it.

Better than I thought!

I was skeptical on what to expect with bigger brands out there. I have an older Shark Vacuum I've been using for years, you know the kind that "don't lose suction". I waited until I was going to do a full cleaning with the Bissell before writing a review and I can say that I'm impressed.
It was easy to put together. Everything basically snapped on except the handle was 2 screws. The first thing I noticed was that the cord was retractable. Wow! I love that. I don't need to stop cleaning to unwind more cord, I can just pull as I go and hit a button with my foot to retract it back. The cord on my shark got in the way sometimes having to wrap it around, the cord here is internal so it never gets in the way.
There is also the swivel which I had to get adjusted to, but its a quick learning process, its an added convenience cleaning from one spot instead of having to move with every angle you tackle. The Bissell also came with an extra washable filter for backup and has a suction indicator on top of the filter, I guess it lets you know when you need to clean the filter out.
All in all, its a pretty good vacuum, especially if you don't want to spend $200-300 on the nicer end Vacuums. I look forward to my next cleaning session =)

Luxury in a small package
on October 30, 2018
Posted by: Jp223
from Houston, Tx
Let me start off by saying that I've used an older toaster oven for years. Very basic, I choose the temperature, bake/broil, and the timer.
This one had a small learning curve for me, its basically a replacement for my full size oven for smaller items. Its slightly larger so I was not able to fit it where my last toaster oven was. It came with 4 trays! One was a wire grill, one a solid tray (no holes), one a pizza tray, and the other was a crumb catcher for the bottom. I def enjoy the extra options, my biggest issue was finding places to store all this!
The LCD screen is great because you know exactly what you are getting. Previously I was just getting close to the temperature that I wanted. Now I can pick settings of bake, broil, convection, keep warm, pizza, cookies. It heats quick and cooks just how you expect it to.
I look forward to using this for things I normally would use my gas range for. It heats up much quicker and the controls are much more efficient. On top of its functionality, it has a sleek modern look to it that improves the appearance of my kitchen. This is definitely a nice a nice addition to my appliances.

Comfortable and quiet!
on October 3, 2018

These Sony headphones are pretty amazing for an over-the-ear headphone. To start and compare with, I have a pair of Skull Candy Hesh 2 Wireless headphones and Apple Airpods to compare with.
First impressions:
- Sleek
- Super Comfortable
- Foldable
The first thing I did when I got these headphones was install the app on my iPhone and install an update for the headphones. Took a little longer than I expected, about 45 minutes. My first test was at the gym. Let me tell you, these are some of the softest headphones I’ve ever put on my head. Very comfortable! Next, you notice immediately after you put the headphones on its almost like you’re in a sound-proof room! So quiet. Turning on the headphones enables the Noise Cancellation feature which removes any additional noise that may be coming in. This is nice at the gym because sometimes I’m battling the gyms music over mine, and in this case it was all me. There is also a feature for Smart Listening that adjusts the noise cancellation based on your environment.
The app is pretty impressive. Neither of my other premium headphones had an app to control the headphones like this one. Within the app you can view the battery life, toggle the Adaptive Sound Control and Ambient Sound Control on and off, optimize the Noise Cancelling to your preference, equalizer, Sound Quality Mode, and DSEE HX toggle along with a few other options. Very handy, especially if you’re an audiophile.
Finally, I accidentally stumbled upon the touch features of the headphones while at the gym. The right headphone is touch sensitive and allows you to control volume and music playback with a simple swipe of your finger on the actual headphone, Apple Airpods for instance allow you to pause by double-tapping which doesn’t seem very smooth, these Sony headphones are much more responsive and allows you to pause, go back/forward, and adjust volume. It’s a nice option for those without a smart watch to control music without their phone. One thing I wish I could do on the app is to turn this feature off. While working out sometimes I grab my head or need to adjust the headphones and will accidentally hit something on them affecting my playback.
During my initial impressions I wore them to the gym, grocery shopping, and just in general around the house to get a feel for them. The battery life of 30 hours is very impressive, especially with this level of noise cancellation. Full charge takes about 3 hours, but you can several hours of playback off 20-30 minute charge. It uses USB C to charge which is nice since that’s the standard now. The downside to wearing these along with any over-the-ear headphones is the sweat that builds up. I think I’ll stick to my Airpods when it comes to the gym but for almost every other situation these are great headphones to have, especially if you’re in crowded areas. It would be great for my audiobooks especially since I don’t do good with noise distractions.

Unleash the power of the Samsung 980 PRO with Heatsink for next-level computing. With a PCIe® 4.0 NVMe™ interface, get up to 2x the data transfer rate of PCIe® 3.0¹ while remaining compatible with PCIe® 3.0. ¹Results are based on a comparison with Samsung PCIe® 3.0 NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs.

Anyone know if the heatsink is easily removable in case I want to use it in a gaming laptop? I am not sure this will fit my laptop 2nd bay, Asus ROG m16 SSD slot. Thanks!

Not easily, but its possible. Be ready to void your warranty though.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus Ultraportable Gaming Laptop. Enjoy everyday gaming with this ROG notebook PC. The AMD Ryzen 9 processor and 16GB of RAM let you run graphics-heavy games smoothly, while the potent NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics produce high-quality visuals on the fast 14-inch 144hz FHD display. This ASUS notebook PC has 1TD SSD that shortens load times and offers ample storage.

Does it have a mini display port of thunderbolt 3 port? If so can I dual monitor 1 being in the hdmi port and the other with an adapter?

Only video port is HDMI. You can get an HDMI to Display Port adapter for there or there is USB C which you can get a docking station that has additional video ports for.

Experience Wi-Fi 6—the new standard for home wifi. The 3-pack Wi-Fi 6 system supports speeds up to 500 Mbps and coverage up to 5,000 square feet—so you can say goodbye to dead spots and buffering. Work, play, video conference, and stream from anywhere in your home. Set up eero in minutes and get automatic updates, a built-in Zigbee smart home hub, and more. Powered by TrueMesh, eero optimizes your wifi to work for your space and supports 75+ devices.

Does the eero 6 do automatic updates?

It checks for updates automatically and it prompted me to install them, it did so during my setup. I don't see an option to install them automatically, more than likely it'll prompt you so it doesn't disrupt your wifi service unexpectantly.

Monitor your indoor or outdoor premises with these Night Owl HD wired surveillance cameras . Color Boost technology with long-range night vision helps to capture full-color video in low light, while a 100-degree field of view offers enhanced coverage with fewer blind spots. These Night Owl HD wired surveillance cameras feature motion-activated spotlights to deter potential intruders in real time.

Will these cameras work with my Night Owl F6-DVR8?

This camera system is independent and does not use a DVR system. It stores video locally on the camera's themselves and uses the app to control them through the HomeBase included.

Can I hook up 3 monitors? thx

By default, no. There are only 2 ports on the video card. However you can purchase a usb adapter to add additional monitors. We did this at my work to support users who needed 3 monitors. See the products I recommended.
