Just as Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels pushes his films through the Hollywood machine, so too has Paramount Pictures with this simplistic DVD release that isn't worth a second viewing. Paramount apparently didn't expect any serious collector to purchase this film. Extras are limited to the standard theatrical trailer, Dolby 5:1 and Surround options, and French subtitles and language track. The disc feels like it's meant to be a rental, and the film isn't helped by its widescreen format either, since there's nothing in the edges of the frame that's really worth seeing. The film is the story of two loser brothers, Steve (Will Ferrell) and Doug Butabi (Chris Kattan), who go to Hollywood clubs, unsuccessfully hitting on chicks. It started as a two-minute sketch on TV's Saturday Night Live and is now stretched into 90 laborious minutes of the same joke. In this case, the joke is really on the DVD viewer.

A fantastic movie on a poor dvd

Please don't take my rating as ranting on the actual movie. This movie is just downright hilarious. It's got to be one of the funniest movies I have seen. Now that that's out of the way I will write about the quality of the DVD.
Honestly, this has to be one of the worst efforts I have seen to put a film on DVD. I watched this one on my 40 inch tv but the picture of the film only took up 20 inches of if. There were big black bars all around the picture. Also, the picture quality ranges anywhere from decent to poor. A few parts get pretty grainy looking like there's dust on the film.
Surprisingly, however, the audio of the dvd is quite good. Whenever the music picks up my sound system turns my room into a dance club. It is pretty good sound quality.
I only wanted to write my review to let people know about the quality of the DVD. The overall rating of this dvd could be a bit misleading to some people thinking that this is a well made dvd. Im not even one of those people that obsess over dvd quality but this is one that got to me. I haven't seen the quality of the collector's edition but if youre going to get a night at the roxbury, I would probably spend a little extra and get that edition. It at least has to be a little bit of an improvement.
What's great about it: the movie is hilarious
What's not so great: picture quality is awful, no extras
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This bluray could've been so much more

The last samurai is one of my favorite movies. Im pretty sure many would agree with me there. The performances in this film are spectacular and it has a very entertaining story.
Unfortunately, this blu-ray does not do the film justice. It's just a good blu-ray when it really could have been great. The way this movie was shot was just beautiful and the blu ray does not take advantage of it very well. I felt like this was just a slight improvement over the dvd release.
The audio fares a little better but still misses opportunities especially during the battle sequences. For example, when cannons fire it isn't powerful at all.
Fortunately, there are a ton of really good extras on the disc. They are interesting to watch if you want to know more about how the movie was made.
If you are looking to get the last samurai this is definitely the version to get. It just doesn't fully take advantage of the power of blu-ray.
What's great about it: an excellent movie
What's not so great: audio and picture are only a very small improvement over dvd
I would recommend this to a friend!

Til you save up for a bigger one

If you're like me and don't have quite enough to get the more expensive memory cards then the 8 GB one will tide you over until you save up enough to buy the 16 or the 32. By the time I bought my vita with a game and starter kit I didn't really feel like shelling out another 100 bucks for a memory card. The 8 is the best value in my opinion. I figured that 8 would be good until I saved up for the 32 and I don't regret my decison at all.
I have uncharted on a cartridge and I have downloaded quite a few demos to try out other games that I might want to purchase in the future. Plus, I have my music and pics as well. Don't get scared into thinking that you have to buy the most memory for the system right off the bat. Just save for the big one when the vita has a bunch of really good titles.
What's great about it: enough to get you started
What's not so great: why so much money?

Uncharted in the palm of your hands
on June 17, 2012

I just got done with the campaign of Uncharted Golden Abyss. While I greatly enjoyed my time with the game there are a few flaws that kept me from giving this a game a perfect score. It was hard for me to judge the game. As a handheld game it is really good, but judging it as a part of the uncharted series it doesn't stand up as well.
First of all, this game looks really good. And I don't just mean it looks good for a handheld game. This game has moments where you forget that you are playing a handheld game. It can look that good. The only thing i didn't like about the visuals was how Drake looked. I don't know what it was but his face just didn't look right to me. Everything else looks great though. The environments are beautiful and the characters are animated very well. It definitely looks like an uncharted game.
The story is the weakest in the series in my opinion. Other than the relationship between Sully and Drake, I really didn't care about the other characters. They're just not that interesting. I just felt that the game focused a little bit too much on the treasure hunting aspect of the story instead of making you care about the characters in the game. The character interactions that do exist, however, are acted very well by the voice actors. Especially Drake and Sully.
I'll now move on to the gameplay. This is where most of the flaws come from. Don't get me wrong, this game in many ways plays exactly like the console uncharted games. Drake moves just like he does on the console. He can run, jump, take cover, shoot, etc. I guess the first thing I noticed that was a little off was the aiming of the weapons. Aiming is mapped to the second joystick and it can be very imprecise at times and a bit hard to get used to. For a while I was thinking it was me not really used to the joystick but after playing a demo of unit 13 and being able to precisely aim with ease I realized that it was with the game. Im not saying that its broken at all. It just didn't feel as smooth as it should have been to me.
Uncharted GA does incorporate touch mechanics into the game to show it off a bit. Unfortunately, they mostly all just feel like a gimmick and unnecessary. There are times where the game will prompt you to swipe your finger across the screen in a certain direction to make drake do some sort of action. These moments aren't very engaging and aren't all that fun. There are also alternative touch mechanics to some actions in the game but are pretty useless like climbing and jumping. I usually just used buttons because it was a lot more efficient. However, I found that using the touch screen to solve puzzles to be a bit more enjoyable than just using button presses. The touch pad on the back was useful while using the camera or sniper rifle to zoom in or out as well.
There are a few minor bugs in the game that I encountered but nothing to detract from my enjoyment of the game. Just stuff that stood out because the other uncharted games are polished to perfection.
I did just kind of focus a lot on the imperfections of the game but I only did so because I mostly judged the game as another entry in the uncharted series. I still completely recommend this game to uncharted fans. The complaints I stated never really interrupted my enjoyment of the game. The game is really fun and is definitely one of the must buy titles for the vita. Just don't expect too much character development nor any surprises.
What's great about it: fantastic visuals, great looking environments, same uncharted gameplay
What's not so great: unimpressive story, drake's face looks funky, touch screen funtions hit and miss, lack of memorable uncharted moments

An intense thrillride!

This game has been out for quite a while now but I have recently just completed the campaign. I decided to finally play it because I was in the mood to play a new Resident Evil game but there's not one yet. I decided I would finally give this game a shot in the meantime. After playing the game I do have to say that I enjoyed the game a bunch. As a fan of Resident Evil, I enjoyed the gameplay and atmosphere very much so. Im not saying that DS copies RE but you have to admit that they share a few similarities.
In my opinion Dead Space features the best made environment and atmosphere in a survival-horror game. You can tell that the developer put a lot of effort to create a game that entertained and offered a chilling and thrilling experience. It delivers exactly that. You are stranded on a massive spaceship trying to find a way to escape while cutting the limbs off of creatures to survive.
This game is visually impressive. Even today it stands up really well. The gameplay is fun too. Shooting off limbs of enemies is a blast.
The story is probably my favorite in the genre as well. It not only pushes you along from objective to objective, but you actually want to know what happens next.
The only thing I didn't like about the game, though is that it can get a little repetitive after a while. You'll backtrack through the same areas now and then to complete an objective. It does make sense within the context of the story but it still is too bad that they didn't find a way to let you explore more areas of the massive ship.
I recommend this to anybody who hasn't played the game and feels like a good survival-horror challenge.
What's great about it: Fantastic atmosphere, great visuals, very creepy, fun gameplay
What's not so great: a bit too much backtracking

Begin your other life!

I've had skyrim for a while now, but I wanted to wait until I pretty much had experienced everything I could before writing a review for it. I didn't want to fully endorse it only to find something that ruined the game for me. Of course, nothing happened like that.
I know you've heard this from a bunch of different "fanboys" a bunch of different times but this game is awesome! I mean, this is a true RPG right here. It's huge! The world is massive and is just chuck full of things to explore. Gone are the times in the bast games when you would wander for miles and not encounter much at all. Now you are exploring caves, ruins, barracks, towns, cities almost constantly. That doesn't mean that you won't be able to just explore and take in the scenery, however. There are tons of places to climb up and see for miles and I would recommend it because this game is very good looking. The world is one of the most finely crafted I have seen in a video game.
There are many things you can do as well. There is a pretty lengthy main quest that I found to be very good but I would constantly get sidetracked by my curiosity of my surroundings and people coming up to me to give me a side-quest. There are a handful of guilds to join and play through as well that have had a lot of attention paid to them. Add to this the ability to smith your own armor, create your own potions, etc. and you have a bunch to do in this game.
There are also a ton of improvements to the combat from past games and conversing with the NPCs is much more fluid and interesting this time around.
It's not perfect. Im sure you've hear about quite a few bugs and glitches in the game. Those are true. The thing is,though, not all of them happen in every single copy of the game. Very rarely are they game-breaking either. They are usually just amusing little things like flying mammoths that float gently to the ground after a while and stuff like that. Things I easily overlooked in that grand scope of the game.
If you have decided not to play the game only because of something bad you've heard about it then you will be missing one of the best games to date. If anything you should also read about why people like it and then play it while giving it a chance. You'll probably find yourself wrapped up in it like I did.
What's great about it: A massive dynamic world, many improvements in gameplay, so much to do
What's not so great: A few bugs and glitches here and there

A good game but more of the same

When I first heard that the makers of half life were going to make a zombie game I was a bit skeptical at first. I played the first left 4 dead and thought it was a great and needed take on the zombie genre. 4 player co op in different situations was intense and fun.
Not long after, however, a second was announced. It came out soon after and, in a way, it shows. Don't get me wrong. Im not going as far as to say that this is an unnecessary sequal. This game is still quite a bit of fun with a group of friends and if you haven't played the first game then this is definitely the one you should get. The new melee weapons are a nice fit for the game and fun to use. The new levels are pretty fun to play as well.
Having played a lot of the first one with friends, however, we all agreed that it just wasn't as exciting as playing the first one. We played through all the levels and none of us felt the need to go back through and start again. It just felt a little bit like we were playing the same game. The new game modes didn't really interest us either.
I still think this is a good game and worth playing with up to four people. If you don't have those people, however, I wouldn't waste full price on the game. You're AI teammates will test your patience.
Make sure that your friends are the type to want to stay together and use teamwork or you will all die a lot and probably not find the game to be very enjoyable.
What's great about it: great zombie action, new melee weapons, more modes, great with friends
What's not so great: almost the same as the first, AI companions are braindead

A quality blu ray that is light on the features

MIGP is my favorite mission impossible movie barely going beyond MI3. I really wasn't expecting it but I was pleasantly surprised with the action and the acting.
If you liked the movie the blu ray is definitely the way to go. Top quality here.
The video looks great with a very sharp, clear, and deep picture with only a scene or two of light fuzz. I would give video a 9/10. The audio work is amazing as well. The dialogue comes in crystal clear and the there are quite a few moments in the movie that gives your bass a workout. The audio direction is fantastic. Just listen when tom is chasing the bad guy through the sandstorm. That really stood out to me. A 10/10 for me for the audio.
I can't really say that I was impressed with the amount of special features that the movie offers, however. There are only a few features that explain a bit on how different parts of the movie were made. What is here, however is quite good and interesting to watch if you're a fan of the movie. I just wanted more. I didn't find a commentary track either which bummed me out.
In short, I would recommend this blu ray to anyone who enjoyed the movie. It has an amazing audio/video presentation that is worth owning. I just wish it had more features.
What's great about it: near perfect audio and picture quality
What's not so great: left wanting more special features

For the Payne fans!

After playing through the game on medium difficulty and going through again on hard difficulty I can honestly say that I love max payne 3. I had been waiting many years since the 2nd one to play this game and I am not disappointed at all.
This is one of the best action games i have ever played. Rockstar has brought back max payne in the best way possible. The story is great and makes you keep playing and compliments the action wonderfully. Gameplay is pretty much perfected. Bullet-time is,again, the main focus in this game and it works better than ever. Rockstar has truly outdone itself with physics and animation. Bullets rip through bodies while leaving behind devastating damage and enemies will react realistacly depending on where they are shot. This attention to detail also applies to max payne. You really have to pay attention to where you use the bullet dodge in this game. Your dodge will be cut short if you do it too close to a wall or other object. Max will brace for impact as he is about to dive into an object leaving him vulnerable.
The AI is something to mention. It's some of the best I have seen in a game. Even just starting to play the game on medium difficulty I was getting worked over simply because the enemies would take advantage of every opportunity when I was focusing too long on another enemy. They flank and charge and use team work to take you down. It makes these encounters with them all that much more intense. Intelligently using bullet-time is a must.
This isn't the best looking game I have ever seen but it still looks really good. Characters are animated superbly especially max payne. The evnironments really stand out here. Every location is chuck full of details big and small that make this game come alive. Having a firefight in an office is thrilling when there's glass and paper flying every where and walls and pillars are breaking away while computers and tables are getting knocked over. Rockstar definitely took advantage of the time they had with these environments to make them fun to play in.
Like I said, the story is great. This is due to excellent voice acting in the game. Max Payne has some of the best voice work I have ever heard. He really helps carry the story a long with his cynical and sarcastic comments that made me laugh constantly.
This game was definitely made for max payne fans. If you loved the other games then you will most likely love this one as well. If you didn't then it probably won't convert you. I have heard negative comments about the game that I think are unfair. Like this game doesn't have innovative gameplay. I find this to be unfair simply because many games haven't had the most innovative gameplay. Call of duty, halo sequals, mario bros. games, etc. are all great games but aren't exactly innovative when it comes to gameplay nowadays. I think these games are
great, for example, because it takes its gameplay but sets it in creative environments that make you play it in creative ways. This is what I think rockstar has done with max payne. They have taken the max payne formula and have added great visuals, animation, details, story, environments, etc. to make a new experience for max payne fans.
Oh yeah, the multiplayer is a blast as well. It will keep you playing after you have beaten the game. I definitely recommend picking this one up.
What's great about it: Excellent gunplay, Looks great, plays great, fun multiplayer
What's not so great: nudity, a little short

Joss Whedon attempted to follow up his successful series Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the science fiction-themed Firefly. Although the series failed to garner a mass audience, it did have a loyal following. Those fans will be pleased by this box set that contains every episode of the series that aired, as well as three never-before-seen episodes. All 15 episodes are presented in anamorphic widescreen. English, French, and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Commentaries are available on four of the episodes. Production featurettes, a blooper reel, and a tour of the set with Whedon round out this solid package that should be of interest to genre enthusiasts as well as Whedon's fans.

A Classic!

A few years ago I was browsing the family selection when I came upon this boxed set that one of my family members apparently had acquired. I had never heard of firefly so I wasn't too interested in a tv series that I had never heard of before.
After not finding anything else I reluctantly put the first disc into the player and, i have to tell you, I couldnt stop watching it. Everything about this show is expertly done. The stories, the characters, the acting, everything. Even the humor adds to the show which is something I find to be rare in shows like this.
After watching every single episode I wanted more. Even after watching the fantastic serenity movie I wanted more. Im frustrated how this great of a show was cancelled while others that are, quite frankly, quite terrible run rampant on several channels. Im just sad that I couldn't have supported this show when it still mattered.
Anyway, I recommend this show to anyone. Buy it!
What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Pffff!
