Same plot as season 1

"There are probably worse things that could have happened to Ichika Orimura than being the only guy in a training academy filled with military hardware and several battalions of highly competitive and extremely boy-crazed teenage girls. And being caught in a five-girl crossfire between his obsessive childhood friends Lingyin and Houki and the even more zealous British, German and French pilots Cecilia, Laura and Charlotte, at least turned out to be survivable. But surely, Ichika's finally put all his female troubles behind him, right? Oh, don't be ridiculous. None of the femmes fatales in his life have canceled their conquest scenarios; there's double trouble arriving in the form of the Sarashiki sisters; the rest of the school is still waiting in line to take their shot; and when a whole new set of female pilots working for the bad guys shows up with a new generation of stolen IS hardware, things are about to get utterly lethal! The mayhem continues, the mecha runs amok, the hormones run wild and the maiden's behavior becomes even less maidenly as Ichika gets schooled for a second spectacular semester in Infinite Stratos 2!"
Soooooo so close to rating this one just 1 star! So many things that season 2 does bad and just not enough good to offset it. Truthfully, I was getting annoyed while watching this one and was just wanting it to get over with already. I enjoyed season 1, but 2 just seemed to focus on the faults of season 1 and didn't add anything productive. Here's the breakdown. Pros and cons as I'm tired and don't feel like devoting as much time as usual to this review.
Pros:
Great graphics. The CG animation flows very well and you can tell that they still kept a high budget for it.
That's about all I'll give it for pros...
Cons:
Plot: lolwut? Individual episodes are enjoyable, but they don't flow well together and advances in the plot seem forced into the ending of episodes just to create a cliffhanger. Not done well at all.
Characters: I like Houki and Chifuyu, but that's about it. 2 more characters are tossed into the harem mix that doesn't exist because Ichika is the worst main character to ever exist. I was so hoping that he'd die a few times, but the gods weren't smiling on me this day.
New enemy: There's no explanation behind this group at all. The mystery element only carries something so far before you want to punch the director for not explaining what is going on.
Ichika: As stated already, he's the worst MC in the history of anime; let alone in a harem series. Last episode greatly annoyed me when he gets a hole blown in him and then gets back up with no noticeable injury.
Voice acting: This one has a stellar group of voice actors associated with it, but I still can't stand to listen to the English rendition. Especially the forced accents from Cecilia, Laura, and Charlotte.
Graphics: While it was the only positive to me, it's also a negative because there isn't a Blu-ray release as well. It could have looked so much better with more vivid colors and less pixilation on a large TV.
Will stop there. I honestly don't recommend this season to others unless you just really want to see more of it. If anything, at least the last episode gives us a hot springs scene where we get to see all the girls in the buff. Was as exciting as it got. Season 3 is definitely hinted at, but nothing has been green-lit, yet. Seeing as how this finished airing in Japan almost a year ago, I'm not counting on 3 making it into production. Think I'll go read the light novels and hope for a better story!

Length: 58 minutes
"Years after the events that transpired in KITE, Sawa's whereabouts are a mystery. Soon, rumors of a new killer begin to circulate the city. They call her the Angel of Death, an unfeeling assassin who eliminates her targets with grace and precision, leaving only a flurry of feathers behind as her calling card. What the public is unaware of is the fact that this notorious hitman is actually a polite young lady named Monaka.
Like her spiritual predecessor, Monaka has lost most of her family, and her father's duty as a astronaut keeps them literally worlds apart. Despite the physical distance, her father promises her that he will return someday. Until then, the mundane daily routine for the timid and clumsy Monaka is school and a part-time waitress job- except when she receives an assignment and instantly becomes a cold-blooded killer!"
Kite Liberator; the only one installment in the series I didn't have! I didn't have any thoughts on this one going into it, and for that I'm glad. The movie/OVA has plenty of strong points, but it also has its flaws that make it imperfect. The content is similar to Kite, however it's definitely more toned-down in the naughtier aspects and just carries a 16+ rating. There's plenty of blood, murder, and gore to go around as well as just one topless shot.
The action definitely carries Kite Liberator as its strongest element as it's very well-detailed, smooth, and just gorgeous to watch. Sawa makes her appearances in this one as well even if no one else knows about her. Very little is said about her except for talk about the new angel of death being very similar. Really liked the English voice dub as well here. Very likeable and tuned to the characters except for maybe the café owner.
The big drawback here is on the story itself. There's a really sci-fi twist on it that I never would have seen coming when hearing the Kite name. It helps bring everyone together... literally. Also, you don't get much of a background on the characters. Monaka's dad is an astronaut and she's a schoolgirl. One guy that asks her out is a cop. Very little else is revealed about their past. With Sawa, you knew why she became a killer, but we never find out why Monaka is. Lastly, the ending: I won't spoil it. More could have been done, though.
Overall, I liked this one. An extra 30-60 minutes definitely would have helped to flesh out the story a bit more. Great action sequences and enjoyable characters kept it very interesting for me at least. For the price, pick it up if you're familiar with Kite.

For the love of books!
on November 1, 2014

Genre: Comedy, Drama
Length: 12 episodes
"Harumi Kazuhito was the ultimate bookworm, spending days at a time with his head buried in his beloved books, and little could make him happier than perusing the pages of his favorite author, Kirihime Natsuno. Unfortunately, Harumi's life goes to the dogs, literally, when he gets himself killed while trying to stop a robber! Thanks to the power of a true bookworm, however, Harumi inexplicably finds himself reincarnated as a dog... which might not be so bad if dogs could READ. Or if the woman who adopts him didn't have twin predilections for playing with scissors and tormenting her new pet! But what truly makes this strange reincarnation the worst of all possible worlds is that she's also his FAVORITE AUTHOR! The horror! Can Harumi find a way to live with this tantrum throwing typist, or will her crazed clippings prove to be his undoing? Can he escape her constant hounding via the doggy door, or is he barking up the wrong tree? There's a rough, rough time ahead as canine compulsive readers and literary she-wolves get snippy with each other when doggies do what they gotta do in DOG & SCISSORS!"
Dog & Scissors is certainly an interesting anime series. When it first came out, very little was said about it at all on the web aside from a few screenshots and memes. After finding it on sale for $26.99 during the current promotion from Best Buy, I decided to order it along with about 5 other titles. Had one of my brothers over playing games and got him to watch it with me, too.
The plot: The description basically said it all. That is the plot in a nutshell. Harumi is brought back to life due to his desire to read the last book from Kirihime in her Seven Deadly Sins series, "Lust". The name that he knows her by is actually Shinobu Akiyama. Don't understand why they put her real name in the description since it's not her pen name that readers know her by. We're introduced to a few side-characters but otherwise it's a lot of random stuff happening every day. Plot starts out good, but it flat-lines pretty quick.
The graphics are pretty decent for DVD. Don't expect any awe-inspiring backgrounds or beautifully orchestrated fight scenes. There is not an English dub for this, so you'll have to read subtitles unless you're fluent in Japanese. Music wasn't something that catches your attention, either.
Overall, the rating is probably closer to a 3.5 due to the sever lack of plot development, but I was nice and rounded up. There are quite a few pervy moments as well which contribute to the M rating. No nudity that I witnessed. The comedy aspect definitely helped keep my interest in this series. There's a bit of drama which I found odd as it handles it quite well, but doesn't use it to advance the story at all. I'll have to consider reading the light novels in the future to see if the real story is better. Enjoy!

The gruesome conclusion
on October 30, 2014

from Clarksville, TN
Genre: Action, Gore, Comedy, Supernatural
Length: 112 minutes
"Arucard awakens with his thirst for vengeance stronger than ever. This bloodthirsty monster unleashes every heinous trick in his deadly repertoire while baring his fangs at an army of fiendish N.z. werewolves.
As Arucard soaks up every precious drop of blood in sight, all involved are struck by the realization that this ultimate slaughter may be too much for even the most diabolical of demonic slayers to survive. Find out which clandestine establishment asserts its dominance as the epic battle of the supernatural reaches its gloriously bloody end."
Really Funimation? Nz werewolves? They're vampires! There is one werewolf, but I won't spoil that part! Hellsing Ultimate has been such a wonderful series to watch even if it has taken forever to finish in North America. With this being volumes IX & X, I don't recommend watching from this point if you haven't seen the first 8. Had my brother watch it with me and he was confused as can be, and I really didn't want to spend the time to rewatch them just so he was in the know.
The final volumes start off with the conclusion to the fight between Alexander and Alucard/Arucard. Not much of a spoiler, but there's no way that Alucard would die this early on without even getting to face Walter or the Major. It's actually pretty hard to say much about this one without there being a ton of spoilers so I'll try to focus on the overall picture. As has been the norm, the show centers primarily on the over-the-top one-on-one fights along with a few mass slaughters of the non-super powerful troops. Alucard takes a surprisingly lighter role at this stage of the game with a bit more emphasis on Seras and Integra. The true role of Schroedinger is finally revealed as well!
Graphically, the end of this series still maintains the bone-shattering, blood-curdling, mass violence that we've come to know with Hellsing Ultimate. if anything, it takes a step up by flooding nearly all of London in blood. if you don't like blood, stay away! Plot-wise, while the action was intense, it felt like there was a lot more dialogue than I remembered. However, it's been a long time since the first 8 volumes were released in English so I could have just forgotten those parts and solely remembered the action. Also, the opening and ending themes went back to more of an Asian feel whereas the prior volumes were much more western. They also brought back the Warsong Philharmonic Orchestra which I loved!
Overall, I was sad that we only get two volumes instead of 4, but there's a very nice and satisfying end to this one unlike a lot of series. Nothing felt rushed or forced. This was definitely a pleasure to watch!
Lastly, glad that the other guy got his copy a week early. Mine still hadn't shipped as of midnight on 10/27 so I cancelled my order and picked it up in the store on release day. Got the last copy!

Newer DBZ
on October 7, 2014
Posted by: Dval
from Clarksville, TN
Genre: Action, Comedy
Length: 105 minutes, 85 for the Theatrical version.
"Stunning animation and spellbinding action sequences highlight the first new Dragon Ball Z feature film in seventeen years! Beerus, the devastating God of Destruction, travels to Earth in search of an opponent who can match his brutal battle skills. Driven by visions of an all-powerful warrior known as the Super Saiyan God, Beerus threatens to destroy the planet unless a worthy challenger steps forward. Joined by an all-star cast of Dragon Ball characters, Goku must draw upon the power of his friends to unlock the strength of a Super Saiyan God - and stop Beerus's evil rampage!"
New Dragon Ball Z? Don't mind if I do! I really should have gone to see it in the theaters back when they were screening it, though. Don't get near enough anime titles on the big screen. Battle of the Gods takes place after the end of the Z/GT series as Goku makes mention of his fusion with Vegeta. With the manga, it apparently occurs during a time-skip in chapter 517 #according to Wikipedia#.
Don't really have to worry much about any spoilers here except for the ending which I'll avoid. I watched the uncut version so I can't comment on what was removed for the theatrical version. The story is pretty consistent with any shonen/action movie where a new forces comes to Earth, beats up the good guys, they power up, and then fight again. And in typical DBZ fashion, there's a lot of filler. It seemed like Akira Toriyama wanted to bring parts of all Dragon Ball series into play with this one as a bit of time is spent on Emperor Pilaf and his misfits since they're trying to steal the dragon balls again. Luckily we don't have to experience Yamcha trying to fight in this one...
Battle of the Gods introduces a few things that I really liked as well as some that I wasn't as thrilled with. Being the first new film in 17 years, this one does make use of CG animation which is done pretty well. I don't think it was pulled off as well as they did it with the Berserk movies, but it moved smoothly and didn't detract from the fights. Also, after Goku got KO'd in just 2 shots at the beginning, Vegeta got some screen time and managed to put up a pretty awesome fight after seeing Bulma get knocked out. The movie doesn't end the way you'd initially expect, either! I was definitely happy with that as it leaves the door open to more movies.
On the opposite side, I wish that they had stuck with the original version of "Cha-La Head-Cha-La" as the new one didn't feel quite as epic. Also, I enjoy some comedy, but it just felt like they abused it a bit too much as filler for the series. But! If a god of destruction comes to your neck of the woods, give him some pudding, sushi, and ice cream. They seem to love that stuff... Lastly, I can dig the red hair of the Super Saiyan God-mode, but skinny Goku just doesn't look right!
Overall, I certainly enjoyed the film. I cried a little on the inside while watching Vegeta's bingo dance, though. Fantastic graphics, a phenomenal voice-acting job, great fights, and an entertaining story make it a must-own in my book. And despite what BBY's website says, you can probably find it in any store for the first week or two of release. My store doesn't have an anime section anymore but they got this one! Enjoy!

Incredible horror, murder-mystery game!
on October 6, 2014
Posted by: Dval
from Clarksville, TN
Genre: Mystery, Suspense, Horror, Comedy (mostly from Monokuma)
Play-time: 40~ish hours for main story, 10-20 for unlockables.
Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair is a follow-up to the original Danganronpa game that was released last year. If you've played the first one, then you know what to expect, mostly. However, for those that didn't play the first, then I really don't recommend jumping in to this one just yet. The story is a direct continuation even if it doesn't seem that way for a long time. Take the time to play through the first and then start this!
The premise of Danganronpa 2 is that you, Hajime Hinata, have just been accepted into Hope's Peak Academy; a prestigious school for the super-talented and wealthy. Once you enter the school grounds, you suddently collapse. Upon awakening, you are in a classroom with 15 others who all experienced the same thing. However, a rabbit-thing named Usami appears claiming to be your teacher and then reveals that you are all on an tropical island for a vacation. After you finally lower your guard and decide to try to have fun, a mysterious storm blows in and Usami is dethroned by the black and white bear known as Monokuma. He then delivers shocking news to everyone that the only way off of the island is to kill each other and to get away with it!
Same basic concept as before, but just revamped to be even better! After each murder, you participate in a class trial to determine "who dunnit" in your effort to stay alive. The Logic Dive and Furious Rebuttal are two new additions to the trials and each have their own quirks. They get increasingly harder as the trials go on. I REALLY despised the last Logic Dive. The amount of clues you have to use in your trials has also increased as did the annoyance of white noise that tries to block out your rebuttals and objections. Figuring out the murders also got pretty difficult as well. I was able to figure out the 3rd and last at the start of the trials, but not the others. The 3rd really bummed me out. I was hoping that the killer would make it to the end after gathering all of his/her hope fragments and uncovering a bit of their past.
Like with other visual novel games, this one is very dialogue heavy. YOU WILL SPEND A LOT OF TIME READING!!! If you want something fast-paced, then this isn't it. But I don't see how anyone could not love this game once they've started. Initially I planned to play through it in a couple days after release, but I finally beat it after about a month. Granted I was playing other games as well, but this one is very lengthy and you won't be beating it in a single day. I suppose it is possible if you ignore any extras, don't bother exploring, and also skip all of the free-time sessions. That's just trying to beat the game for the heck of it instead of actually enjoying it, though. Can't recommend this one enough to everyone. Hopefully BestBuy gets more in stock so people can buy it again!

Length: 11 episodes
"Illyasviel von Einzbern's normal life is suddenly halted by the Kaleidostick Ruby, a magical wand on the run from her former master, who instantly decides that little Illya has all the right stuff to become the next great magical girl. However, Ruby's previous owner Rin Tohsaka isn't exactly thrilled to be de-wanded, especially since she's just accepted an assignment to collect the seven legendary Class Cards. It seems the only solution is for Illya to take up the task and learn the ropes under Rin's supervision. Meanwhile, a girl named Miyu has been chosen by the Kaleidostick Sapphire as HER new master, much to the irritation of Sapphire's previous master, Rin's arch rival Luviagelita Edelfelt! Exactly what kind of plan are the wands conjuring up? Find out as the Fate/stay night universe "kaleids" with a healthy dose of magical girl mayhem in Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya!"
This was definitely a fun series to watch. I streamed the first 4 episodes as they were airing back in 2013. If I had stuck with it one more week, it would have been amazing because episode 5 really kicks this series into high gear. I highly recommend watching the Fate/stay Night, Fate/zero series if you haven't, but they aren't entirely necessary for this series as it does branch off a lot from them. The story does a wonderful job in building up on multiple ideas and giving us more to look forward to as season 2 just finished airing. The Class Cards obviously hold a lot more meaning than what they've been told. What is the story behind Miyu that we only get to briefly see? And who is this mysterious man that is arriving in Japan? Lots of stuff to look forward to with season 2.
Even if the story doesn't thrill you to the max, the animation definitely will. TYPE-MOON has always churned out fantastic works and this one is no exception. The backgrounds are never stale and rehashed except for a few classroom scenes. Movement is smooth and fluid. And the fighting scenes are absolutely amazing. The fight with Caster starts everything off, but those against Alter-Saber and Berserker really take the cake. Love it!
I couldn't really handle the English dub-work on this one as it didn't seem like Illya's or Miyu's VA could get the right range without going into a whisper. Not an easy task to pull off for anyone, but the Japanese seem to have it down to an art. Shiro's character sounded more like a high-schooler or university student instead of a middle schooler as well. Don't expect much from the extras either. 4 promos and textless songs is all that you get.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I was a bit uncomfortable with the fanservice of Illy and Miyu, but that's used more for comedy as it seems Illya has a bit of a pervy streak in her! Illya's mom, though? Yes, please! Those are a far, distant second compared to the action scenes. I can't recommend this one enough.

Let them fight!

Been a huge Godzilla fan for as long as I can remember. Have all of the originals on VHS and I've been buying all of them up as they come out on DVD/Blu-ray. Sadly, I no longer have the destructible New York City to go along with the figures that can shoot missiles. Needless to say, I love Godzilla. This version was a huge opportunity for the West/Hollywood to undo the atrocity that came out in 1998. And it does a hell of a job, too!
The special effects take the cake in this one in terms of rendering an incredibly life-like experience that puts you right there in the mix of things. The camera angles are almost all done from a "realistic" angle of where a human would be rather than just going for that perfect shot to display everything going on in the battles. At first, I wasn't a huge fan of the new design for Godzilla, but it really works. The larger, whale/gorilla-like form goes well with his pace and movements. He's got a bit of a human touch as well.
The only downside I can really think of is the lack of direct screen time for the big guy. I was slightly disappointed after seeing the movie on opening night because he wasn't in it more, but Edwards really did a great job with how he handled the action. He keeps building up the expecations throughout until the end when the action really takes off. You don't hear Godzilla roar near as much as in the older movies, but it has a huge impression each time that he does. I get the chills every time it happens!
I highly recommend watching the extras if you have the time. The first set, you can skip, though. They just rehash scenes from the movie with actors monologuing in the background. Really doesn't add anything. The second set goes into the making of the movie from the designs, storyboards, set construction, and more. It's almost an hour for the 4 of them, but I really enjoyed watching them all.
Fantastic movie for anyone in my opinion. Whether you like action movies, monster/kaiju films, or just enjoy a solid movie, check this one out. If anything, watch it for Godzilla's finishing move. Pretty epic!

The king of ero-luck returns

Genre: Fanservice, comedy, ecchi, Harem
Length: 12 episodes
"The insanity that began when a very naked (and very female# alien teleported into Rito Yuki's bathtub #while he was in it# continues. And even though Princess Lala has finally started to admit her true feelings for the young man she's inexplicably engaged to marry #as a result of what happened in said bathtub and Develuke customs,# her sometimes erratic technology and the snags and snarls of intergalactic politics and intrigue are still causing major problems. That transporter? Yeah, it still has the nasty habit of leaving the clothes behind. Alien bounty hunters? Yep, even more of them and they're even more devious. Add body switches, alien skunks, a bathroom that changes size and shape, the inevitable sleepover that you just know is going to go horribly, horribly wrong #spoiler: it does.) Worst of all, there's Valentine's Day, and even in space you'll be able to hear Rito scream! Love takes a quantum shift into the wrong gear and the star brakes are broken in the extra-special, extra-crazy extraterrestrial romance to end them all, MOTTO TO LOVE RU - The Complete Collection!!!"
To Love Ru is one of those hard series to explain to people. The actual titles is ~Toraburu~ AKA, Love Trouble! As this is basically the 2nd season, I don't encourage you to watch this one if you haven't seen the first season. The first season builds up some of the characters and their backgrounds. Motto, AKA more, is pretty much focused on increasing Rito's relationship with all of the girls. And there are a LOT of them. The alien princess, Lala, as well as her two sisters, Momo and Nana. The assassin, Yami. His sister, Mikan. School crush, Haruna. Transgender alien, Run. And at least 6 others...too many! And to top it all off, he has the luck/misfortune to always end up in a compromising position with one of the girls. If he trips, you can guarantee that he's landed face-first between someone's legs or has managed to pull their pants down. Or maybe his hand just happened to fall onto their chest. However, he usually ends up getting his butt kicked afterwards.
The graphics are well done here with the point of emphasis on the characters, and usually their undergarments. The backgrounds are pretty ordinary and don't tend to have much moving. Blu-ray quality makes it look much more vivid with more vibrant colors. If you bought the DVD version of series 1, then you were assaulted by all of the light-bars and censors, but they're gone in the Blu-ray releases! Nothing too extreme; just a lot of topless shots. The extras are pretty lackluster which isn't a surprise coming from Sentai. This is also one of the titles that they've gone to putting everything on one disc. I didn't notice any degradation of quality.
Motto To Love Ru is a fun title to watch, especially if you're a little ero-minded. There's not much in the plot department, but there are plenty of laughs to keep it entertaining. I recommend it!

Ecchi to the max!
on September 8, 2014
Posted by: Dval
from Clarksville, TN
Genre: Comedy, Harem~ish, Ecchi, Action
Length: 12 episodes
"Tomoki's life was normal until a wish-granting angelic android named Ikaros fell from the sky and started calling him master. Things got even crazier when Ikaros's fellow android, Nymph, came fluttering down to join the fun. With the winged vixens adjusting to life on Earth, you'd think Tomoki's dream of a peaceful existence might finally be coming true - but you'd be wrong! With his teenage impulses and dirty mind, Tomoki's wishes are causing more chaos than ever before. Plus, there's a curvy new android on the scene: Astraea. She definitely looks as angelic as Ikaros and Nymph, but there's a chance this beautiful blonde newcomer is up to no good!"
Are you a man? A manly man? If so, then it's your job...nay! It is your destiny to chase after all things that jiggle and bounce and shake...*drools* Welcome to the life of Tomoki. There may be no bigger pervert in the entire world and he's darn proud of it. Give him the limitless power of two angels serving him and the fates of all innocent women/girls in the world are in grave peril!
This series is a flat-out comedy power-house. Exploding pantsu!? Super-endowed and scantily clad angels!? Highschool students with extreme mental disorders!? Nothing quite beats the wrestling episode or the snowball fight episode. Heck, each and every episode can be summarized by just a couple words if you know what type of character Tomoki is.
If you loved the first season, you're gonna love this one even more! There is just a little bit more drama during the second season, but it's completely overshadowed by the sheer hiliarity. This series ranks up there with FMP Fumoffu as one of my all time comedy favorites. What's even better is that you don't even have to see the first season to completely get what goes on in this one. Back when Funimation first released this subbed series onto Youtube, I accidentally saw this one first and then went back and watched the original season.
The bonus features for this set aren't bad. Commentary for episodes 4 and 9. Tons of music videos with songs from the series. Really wish that the season one opening "Ring My Bell" was on this one as well, but sadly it isn't. However, you do get the song done by the original vocalist for Tomoki...little creepy. Standard amount of trailers, about 6. This season is the same 12 episodes long for a total of about 300 minutes or 5 hours of viewing. I recommend watching the commentaries as I found them extremely funny.
Not a big fan of the English voice actors for this one. Mainly the ones who do Nymph and Icaros. Can tolerate the others, but I usually end up changing it to the Japanese with English subtitles.

I try not to be a grammar-junkie, but I think "saadcitystar" is trying to say that he/she's happy with their remote programming. It sounds like he/she purchased a Harmony remote with RF (radio frequency) instead of IR (infrared) that is capable of sending signals over about a 50' range and can even go through walls, cabinets, etc...
If purchasing a remote programming by itself, the service is $99.99, but if you're having other services done as well (audio setup, wall-mounting, calibration, or networking), the service actually drops down to $59.99.

Throwback album
By Dval from Clarksville, TN
Album came out back on Tuesday and it arrived on Wednesday. Love the quick shipping here.
Hide and Seek isn't quite the same as previous albums from The Birthday Massacre. Couple of the songs have a little bit darker feeling to them, but the overall sounds took me back to music from the 80's and early 90's. Really loving it.
Wouldn't really say that there's any songs that just jump out at you, but it actually works out good for this CD. Really enjoying every single song so I can just keep the entire thing going on repeat. Would be nice to have a killer hit like "Blue" or "Red Stars" thrown in, but the whole thing more than makes up for it.
There's also a Vinyl version available as well, but you'll have to order that through other means if you want it. Definitely recommend this one to any fans.

This haunting release from the psychological sci-fi anime series Elfen Lied includes all 13 episodes of the show, following the story of a telekinetic girl named Lucy, who breaks free from the torment and torture of a government research facility and is taken in by two kindly strangers - who have no idea that the sweet girl they've discovered harbors a split personality brought on by years of abuse, along with unfathomable powers toa ct on her rage.

Gore and horror at its best
By Dval from Clarksville, TN
A deadly disease has somehow formed in the human genes resulting in humans with horns called diclonius (sp? Been a while since I saw it). In addition to the horns, these mutants also have supernatural powers in the form of invisible arms called vectors. What's to stop these mutants? Locking them up in a government test facility; testing, torturing, and mutilating them, right...?
Elfen Lied starts out with one of the diclonius, Lucy, escaping from her heavily fortified prison by slicing and dicing her way through waves of armed guards who are powerless against her vectors which can also deflect bullets (from a certain range#. A sniper's bullet to the head doesn't manage to kill her, but it is enough to create a 2nd personality in the form of Nyu who washes up on the nearest beach. There, she's discovered by Kohta and Yuka who had met Lucy many years before but are unaware of her identity.
The series then progresses through gallons of blood, truckloads of body parts, and the battle to stop the spread of the diclonius. Gore, horror, supernatural, and action are the main genre of this anime. You run into a bit of romance (Could refer to Lucy as a tsundere and Yuka is close enough to a yandere) with nothing really ever developing.
Not much in terms of extras besides a few trailers. However, I love the textless opening and closing themes. The opening, "Lilium" is one of my all time favorite songs with its haunting and beautiful melody. Greatly enjoy the closing theme "Be Your Girl" as well.
Despite only being 13 episodes, Elfen Lied has managed to be quite a controversial series. The amount of killing and nudity in the first episode rubbed some people the wrong way. This is one of my favorite series even if it was a bit gorier than I'm used to. Recommend it to anyone who wants a good horror anime.

This release from the chilling anime series Gunslinger Girl includes all 13 episodes of the show's first season, following the girls of the Social Welfare Agency, who appear from the outside to be orphaned schoolgirls, but are actually trained to be cold blooded killers. Extras with the release include voice director commentary, textless songs, and more.

Killer girls from...
By Dval from Clarksville, TN
Genre: Action
"Officially, the social Welfare Agency is a government sponsored corporation that's in the business of saving lives. At least, that's the ruse. In reality, it's an agency on the fringe of technology. They give terminal patients another shot at life using cybernetic implants. This conditioning process then shapes the patient into an effiecient machine for handling all of the goverment's dirty work. They've been given a second change at life, but at what cost?"
Basic plot: Little girls that were about to die have been given a second shot at life, but in return they're basically assassins for the government. The first season here doesn't really do much more than give us a character intro for 6 different girls. The story takes place in Italy which is a huge change of pace for most anime. Plot only got an average score because of the lack of one thus far.
Cinematography: The graphics are very visually appealing. Seeing everything out in the Mediteranean is a good change from the streets of Japan. The character designs themselves aren't very well done, though. They're really kind of normal. However, there's a ton of detail put into the outfits, guns, and scenery. Found it kind of odd, but the Blu-ray version is definitely nice and crisp. No jagged edges around the faces like on DVD versions.
Acting: Loved the English voice-acting and didn't touch the original Japanese. Kind of want to just to hear they're versions of each girl.
Extras: Non-existent. Not a single trailer, commentary, or even a textless opening or ending. Bare bones.
As the first reviewer posted, the story is a little disturbing. If you can get around little girls being used as military dolls, then the action is quite nice and I really enjoyed it. Just not the best series out there. Should definitely pick it up if you like anime, though.

This mind-bending release from the psych-horror anime series Deadman Wonderland includes all 12 episodes of the show, following the story of a high school boy who is unjustly jailed for the murder of his class in a prison system that fits him with a collar constantly injecting him with poison. The poison can be neutralized if he can take regular doses of the antidote often enough, though these can only be obtained through prison work.

Supernatural prison
By Dval from Clarksville, TN
Genre: Supernatural, Action, Drama
Length: 12 episodes + OVA
"Ganta is the only survivor after a mysterious man in red slaughters a classroom full of teenagers. He's framed for the carnage, sentenced to die, and locked away in the most twisted prison ever built: Deadman Wonderland. And then it gets worse.
At Deadman Wonderland, convicts are forced into brutal deathmatches for the amusement of the masses, the cheers of the crowd drowning out the screams of the dismembered. Even when Ganta befriends Shiro, an unusual female inmate, his dark fate crushes all hope – until he discovers the strange ability to wield his spilled blood as a weapon. Ganta learns his new skill might be related to the murderous man in red and uncovers disturbing secrets that could expose those who stole his freedom. He's determined to see justice served – but first he'll have to fight for his life in a prison that holds a million ways to die."
Deadman Wonderland is a decent series that gained attention in America after Cartoon Network aired it on the Toonami animation block when it was reincarnated back in 2012. I caught the first 2 episodes, but never got around to watching the rest. The series is filled to the brim with blood, gore, and action. The English dialogue is pretty racy as well. It does an excellent job with the shock factor. You just know someone is about to die, but it can be a little hard to predict how it's going to happen. Sadly, the series is quite rushed and a ton of knowledge is never made known. There also isn't really a true ending. Red Man remains a mystery, sort of. What relation does Shiro and Ganta have? Don't want to spoil any of the ending, but it pops up just as many questions and doesn't really answer anything. It leave tons of room for a 2nd season, but I haven't seen anything in the works, yet.
I enjoyed the series overall even with the rushed ending and lingering questions. My brother was also a fan and admitted that he was a little confused with the entire thing. This is a great value on a pretty good series. Pick it up!

Good entry level 4K TV
By Dval from Clarksville, TN
Bought this TV in late June after having originally gotten the 65W950B model instead. There are a few things that could be improved upon, but it's excellent for its price range. Here's the round up:
Pros:
Great picture quality. 4K resolution is truely amazing when you have 4K content playing on it.
4K Xreality Pro: Upscaling works out quite well. I only have basic cable set up and it honestly made the picture look like it was HD quality. Sure, it didn't look like 4K, but you can't expect to make a 480p image look close to 4K resolution.
TriLuminous display: This is the big point for me when picking the Sony over the Samsung models. Sony gives better colors than Samsung which tries to focus too much on aesthetics and brightness.
Smart features: Easy to use and navigate. Had it connected to the internet in under 5 minutes after setting up and was streaming 4K videos off of YouTube and Netflix.
Cons:
Audio: Sadly, this model doesn't feature any improved sound qualities. If you want better sound, then you need a separate sound system or you'll want to step up to the X900B series which starts off at 65".
Search feature: Using the search feature within the TV is a pain in the butt. Type something in and it's likely to pull up a few million hits off of YouTube rather than searching for what you wanted on the TV. Had to go to the very end of all the apps just to find the web browser option.
While I count audio as a con here, if you're spending this much on a TV, then you shouldn't be in a stretch just to add some form of external speakers. Decent soundbars run as cheap as about $200 while the better quality ones range from $350-$600. If you want some great audio, then you save $300 off of the Sony ST7 soundbar with the purchase of this TV. Usually $1300 for it as it's a premium soundbar option.
I really wanted the X950B model, but alas, $8k is a bit outside of the realm I want to spend on a TV. Aside from the lower quality audio and lower contrast range, this model is a great alternative for almost 1/4 of the cost. Definitely can't go wrong with it!

In regards to the W950B, I have to place it as the best-looking non-UHD TV on the market (not counting the Samsung F8500 plasma). I prefer the picture quality, color, and contrast that it provided instead of the X850B series. The speakers are pretty good and the built-in subwoofer actually rumbles nicely, too. The sheer amount of calibration settings is insane compared to any other TV I've gone into as well. Aside from the 4K display capability, the W950B beats it out in pretty much every department in my opinion. In the end, I was looking for a 4K TV, and the 65W950B was a bit too large for my space, so that's why I settled on the X850B instead.

sound in anime
March 17, 2015
It'd be great to have more titles with full 5.1 or 7.1 dolby digital sound, but it's pretty rare outside of the big movies. Really long answer so I'll just paste the response from the animenewsnetwork for you.
Audio is important, and many fans are becoming more and more concerned with making sure that they're getting the best quality audio possible when they fork over the money for a shiny disc of their favorite show. But with so many different formats, which one is best? Which ones should you be asking for? Sometimes the difference is negligible or non-existant, other times it makes a huge difference.
Let's start with the easy one: why some shows have 5.1 mixes for the dub, but not for the original Japanese. I've answered previously on this column that most TV anime doesn't bother with anything more than a stereo (2.0) mix because the Japanese broadcast standard doesn't really support 5.1 audio, and given how big home theater systems aren't as common in Japan for a number of reasons, they generally don't bother remixing for 5.1 when it comes time to release the discs on home video. However, when making the dub, an American publisher might think 5.1 is worth the extra work. If they're already set up to do 5.1, the audio has to be remixed anyway, so it is an opportunity to have a nice added feature for dub fans.
5.1 mixes require special equipment, take a lot more time, and are harder to check for errors (and requires a lot more office space to do so), so it's often not practical to do 5.1 mixes for everything. They can also cost more money. The decision to make a 5.1 mix is made on a show-by-show basis, based on whether the Japanese is 5.1 (usually just movies and some high-end OAVs) and how much the show is predicted to sell.
As for what format in which they're stored on a disc, these days you generally see 4 different kinds of audio tracks:
• Linear PCM (Completely uncompressed, basically just a WAV file. Takes up a lot of space, especially in 5.1.)
• Dolby Digital (AC3) (Lower quality, like an MP3, but takes up a lot less space. Supported by DVD and Blu-ray.)
• Dolby TrueHD (Blu-ray only. The full quality of the WAV file, but compressed to a more manageable size. Still much bigger than AC3, however.)
• DTS Master Audio (Blu-ray only. For the end user, pretty much identical to Dolby TrueHD.)
When you make a DVD or Blu-ray, you are tasked with squeezing a lot of data onto a finite amount of space, so compression can be very important. Wasting too much bandwidth on audio means you might have to sacrifice video quality. The above compression formats are essential ways to get the most quality out of an audio track without having an unwieldy amount of data to contend with.
Audio quality obsessives swear that Dolby Digital AC3 audio has a lot of distortion and they can DEFINITELY tell a difference. I am skeptical. I've definitely heard bad AC3 encodes that definitely affected audio quality, particularly in very early DVDs, but there has never been a double-blind study that shows even audio experts can tell a difference at higher bitrates (and quite a few proving that nobody can tell at all). At any event, the presence of "lossless" audio (in either LPCM, DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD) has become an important marketing bullet point for Blu-ray discs, so whether people can REALLY tell the difference or it's all a placebo effect, who am I to argue.

I wanted to know if i still need to hook up a 3d transmitter to the tv to get glasses to work with the 3d view? The transmitter that came with the glasses does not have the rite connection to hook up to the back of this tv. this is what the transmitter looks like http://images.highspeedbackbone.net/SKUimages/gallery/large/S190-0101-call04-mm.jpg
That's odd. I didn't get any piece like that in mine and never saw one like it when opening displays in the store either. However, you won't need that to enjoy 3D viewing. You can choose to do the 2D-3D conversion on the television or just make sure you have a 3D Blu-ray player (or PS3/PS4) and 3D content. WIth the TVs being Passive 3D instead of Active, there's no need to sync them with the TVs anymore either.
